IAN SOMERHALDER FOR THE MESSY GULF OIL SPILL OF 2010
If you live in Hollywood you will know who Ian Somerhalder is. He’s the dude who Kevin Williamson (Scream IV writer and film franchise owner) cast in the vampire diaries as a 17 year-old vampire. The show was a trial run adapted from the books, that became a Young Hollywood staple show overnight. Anyway, Ian turned 32 this month (like… in real life) and he has not forgotten about the oil spill that effected the Coast off Miami, the Mexican gulf and New Orleans too.
For the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, Ian urges:
“Instead of gifts this year, my birthday wish is that we come together and raise funds to support projects that protect our habitat and nurture our furry friends. If people truly feel like giving me a gift for my birthday this year, I hope you will consider giving a donation to the foundation. Giving to the foundation would be the best gift I could ever wish for, it would give us a chance to make change together.”
What a guy! Oil can be tricky. It takes a lot of conscious Californians playing vampires to amuse America to remember that outside of BP CEO’s going yachting at non-opportune times, there’s wildlife to look after. Thank goodness Ian Somerhandler is on it then. Happy Christmas New Orleans and Miami. Anyone who plays the guitar to make sense of the Hollywood crazy, while doing good for the environment across America is alright by me. Hey Ian. :)

RYAN REYNOLDS AND SCARLETT JOHANSSON HAVE SPLIT
Girls if you have a double S in your names, hold on to your marriage. After Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens announced a split yesterday, UsWeekly has released the statement from Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson that is:
“After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”
I’m blaming asset bubbles in the global economy for all of this stress right now on couples. Kidding. In Scarlett and Ryan’s case, one media makes their split’s biggest concern about assets the couple own asking the odd question, but Who gets the Whale?
Here’s LA Times on that: “The sad news Tuesday of Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds‘ divorce conjures a lot of questions, like who gets the New York apartment, the L.A. home, maybe custody of the favorite frozen-yogurt joint. But what about “The Whale”?
“A several-ton orca looms over the Reynolds-Johansson split, in the form of a documentary narrated by Reynolds and executive produced by both actors. The film follows Luna, a killer whale separated from his pack near British Columbia — not far from where Johansson and Reynolds wed in a secret ceremony in September 2008.
“We have no reason to believe that their passion and commitment to this project will waver as a result of any changes in their personal lives,” a producer for the film told the Ministry in an e-mail.
Reynolds, Johannson and other producers are in talks with distributors, aiming for a summer 2011 release.
The Whale is an updated version of Saving Luna, a documentary about the same whale that nabbed an audience award at the 2008 Santa Barbara Film Festival. An updated trailer featuring Reynolds’ voice hit the Internet in August.”
It’s good to see a two Hollywood stars and their friends thinking green for the environment, no matter what curve balls life throws in their path. Watch trailer below:

LEVI JOHNSTON IS THE 50TH HOTTEST STAR VOTED IN HOLLYWOOD 2010
America: The Forever Young Hunter & Protector
Levi Johnston, the ex almost-son-in-law of Republican Senator Sarah Palin and once boyfriend of her daughter Bristol Palin makes the top 50 stars voted in Hollywood this year on Horiwod.Com. He’s the underdog pin up boy of America. A country Woodsman tryer who just keeps getting smarter, step by step.
His year saw Playgirl shelling out $100,000 for Levi to pose naked. This shoot created a controversy for the 20 year-old father of son, Tripp. Johnston has since become ensconced in American cultural life.
He often appears on TV talk shows as his ex mother-in-law’s nemesis, a reoccurring starring role for Levi across the same talk shows as Palin has appeared on. America finds this entertaining.
Surprisingly, Levi Johnston rates in both India and Thailand as an American celebrity to keep an eye out for in 2011.
He is currently waging an election campaign as Mayor of Wasilla Alaska–Pallin’s former Mayoralty stomping ground. His ongoing campaign involved Levi stopping by The Big Gun Store today.
His career path, star template is “everything Sarah Palin does, Levi does too– either the same thing with a slight twist, or, the opposite.” This has made him a star. He’s the frenemy mini-me male version of Palin. The in-law turned out-law sporting guns.
Reports People: Levi is often seen being trailed by a reality TV camera crew for a show he has in the works titled: Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor’s Office.
Levi Johnstone is proof that young people should be represented and stand for local politics and government politics too. A view the White House needs perhaps, as Levi’s popularity denotes as a trending topic this year. Last year his trending topic was that Levi was a teen parent.
This year a local candidate on the huntsman’s political trail in The Last Frontier of America is his hot trend transition. He is a young lad who like many country-raised fural folk, enjoy black powder shooting in his recreational time. He’s also a military pin up lad many soldiers can relate to abroad, estranged from their children and families. With a tenth of America registered as a veteran of war – Levi has quite a loyal fanbase, every time he’s spotted holding a hunstman’s gun. In a way he’s a young modern Davy Crockett King of The Wild Frontier from Greene County Tennessee, in American mythology of the 18th and 19th Century.
Perhaps if Levi held a Human Rights manual in his other hand every time he held a gun for publicity, he just might one day rise to be a well rounded Senator or President of promise. Congratulations Mr Johnston for making the top 50 celebrities this year, by democratic vote in Hollywood.

JULIA GILLARD ON AUSTRALIA AND CHINA WIKILEAKS NEWS
According to the leaked wikileaks cable via ABC Australia, Ms Hilary Clinton asked for Australian Foreign Minister Mr Kevin Rudd‘s advice in March this year, on dealing with the growing power of China, asking him: “How do you deal toughly with your banker?“
A brilliant point as the borrower is subject to the lender–as a general rule of thumb.
Mr Rudd said “China should be integrated into the international community but that countries should be prepared to “deploy force if everything goes wrong.”" (more…)

TO SCUTTLE – WIKIPEDIA ON THE TERM “SCUTTLING”
It must be because I’m part Scottish and have spent time living in Australia, because when I hear the word “scuttle” I head straight to Wikipedia to look up what it means. I really am that dumb, where I use wiki often and find more value in wikipeadia more so than wikileaks, although both share controversial and not-so-controversial information freely, apparently. Two random thoughts for mixologists:
What goes down could later go up–Einsten in reverse.
The Oopsology humors: When the wrong ‘terrorists’ are being bombed, divert resources, reprioritize elsewhere–politics 2010′s. Aristostle remixed. Bring humor as medicine to the front line, please.
Scuttling is: ‘the act of deliberately sinking a ship by allowing water to flow into the hull. This can be achieved in several ways -vaves or hatches can be opened to the sea, or holes may be ripped into the hull with brute force or with explosives.
Scuttling may be performed to dispose of an abandoned, old or captured vessel, to prevent the vessel from becoming a navigation hazard or as an act of self-destruction to prevent the ship from being captured by an enemy force, as a blockship to restrict navigation through a channel or within a harbor, or to provide an artificial reef for divers and marine life.
In naval combat usage, scuttling usually involves use of torpedos, and is done to prevent an enemy from gaining (or retaining) a valuable ship; the term applies regardless of whether a friendly or enemy hulk is the target.’

AUSTRALIA PRIME MINISTER JULIA GILLARD CALLS WIKILEAKS RECKLESS
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard last week condemned the planned leaks of Wikileaks, describing the decision to leak the US ‘classified secret’ information concerning international relations as “reckless and potentially harmful to national security interests.”
Gillard had been briefed by America last week that the leaks were coming.
Today Gillard concentrated her efforts towards steering politicians to get on with setting a carbon price for a ‘low pollution economy’ with the goal to tax bizzos polluting the air the most, more heavily than others. Go here to read more.

PALM TREE WISDOM, COCOANUT GROVE, OSCARS HISTORY 1930′s FOR G20 ECONOMIES WORLD LEADERS
In Oscars Hollywood history, the Cocoanut Grove was the venue celebrating Americans much loved art form of Hollywood’s cinema’s best awards for excellence.
From this image we see a Palm Tree as a symbol of Peace. Whether a palm is found in California, throughout The South Pacific, in Israel or Iran provides a message for us all to ponder as a symbol.
A palm tree grows peacefully in earth’s soil, irrespective of how people draw up maps of territory. Its a very humble tree. It just grows. Its leaves offer shade in extreme heat conditions for people and camels alike. It always signifies that water is found nearby, water being a symbol of life that all growing things need to live. A palm tree’s fruit is eaten by people of Californian, people in Iran or Israel alike. A palm tree does not discriminate. It looks after people equally.
May leaders of the world (G20 Economies Summit leaders included) all have a movie date with Peace, in their hearts concerning the future direction of the world and showing mercy to others, not all that different from ourselves.
This is California’s story in the City of Angels. We are peace messengers in The City of Angels–just like a palm tree is. May the art of peace be the most glorified American art of all and bring forth its fruit in due season.
I think an emphasis on water systems watering people who don’t have it in the world with clean drinking water, would be an intelligent thing of G20 leaders to obsess on at this point in World History. With the existing wealth all G-20 Summit leaders nations have, let’s leak some water these nations way who are without.
That’s smart leadership. Instead of just “World Economy, War Economy,” as buzz words, let’s think “Water Economy” too for all people in the world. A war on lack for the least in the world is what’s needed. That’s true power, to think that way and shows respect for basic human rights in the world.

WASHINGTON WIKILEAKS NEWS – SAUDI ARABIA AND ARAB NATIONS SIDED WITH ISRAEL, URGING AMERICA TO STOP IRAN
The Wikileaks leaked documents say a lot today in terms of Foreign Affairs in the USA concerning Iran and other Arab Nations. Today, Bloomberg reports:
“Saudi Arabia and other Arab governments sided with Israel in urging the U.S. to stop Iran from developing a nuclear bomb, according to a New York Times account of 250,000 classified U.S. embassy cables released by WikiLeaks, the non-profit website.”
And… “In the documents, American officials say that Iran obtained 19 advanced missiles from North Korea, potentially giving the Islamic Republic the capability to attack Moscow and cities in Western Europe, the newspaper said in articles published online today. At the request of the Obama Administration, the New York Times agreed not to publish the text of the Feb. 24 cable that reported the Korean missile deal with Iran.”
Of course, the White House spokesperson on the matter, a Nicole Thompson, denies any information in these documents via Wikileaks.
Interesting stuff.

Previous information about Nicole states these things: Nicole Thompson serves as a Press Officer in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Public Affairs.
Her writings focused on the G20 Summit are: “For most of us, up-to-the minute news and information (more…)
VINTAGE MARLON BRANDO, ON THE SET OF MISSOURI BREAKS, 1976
“When they laid down their arms, we murdered them. We lied to them. We cheated them out of their lands. We starved them into signing fraudulent agreements that we called treaties which we never kept. We turned them into beggars on a continent that gave life for as long as life can remember. And by any interpretation of history, however twisted, we did not do right. We were not lawful nor were we just in what we did. For them, we do not have to restore these people, we do not have to live up to some agreements, because it is given to us by virtue of our power to attack the rights of others, to take their property, to take their lives when they are trying to defend their land and liberty, and to make their virtues a crime and our own vices virtues.”–Speech for the Academy Awards protesting the treatment of American Indians, written by Brando courtesy of The New York Times.

MONTANA NATIVE AMERICAN INDIANS, INDICATE GLOBAL WARMING’S CHANGES TO TRIBAL LIFE
In the 2010′s people who think green for the environment–are the big stars of the world–Horiwood, Hollywood.
When Native American Indians (perhaps the most unselfish people and most tolerant in America) indicate the world is changing due to global warming, I perk up my ears and listen. They’ve got nothing to lose in indicating we all better live a bit differently and stop polluting the planet so much in our generation so that future generations won’t hate us later for being greedy idiots. For this reason, I love this story today.
Jennifer H. Cunningham brings us this unique story as guest commentary in Hollywood today. She writes:
(Nov. 21) — Streams that support cold-water fish are getting warmer. Traditional native plants are becoming harder to find. And some animal migratory patterns have been altered and disrupted.
Native American tribes own and manage 5 percent of the land in the U.S. — lands that are rich with renewable resources. But Native Americans are disproportionately affected by climate change given their close association with land and wildlife as they live in dialogue with the earth more than most of us do each day.
‘Climate change is being acutely felt on reservations in the West, putting tribal environments, identity and cultural traditions at risk, experts say.’ (more…)
CROWN BUILDER IAIN CATHCART CREATES A QUIRKY LETTERBOX
“I just love letterboxes as they are your public interface containing information for you.”–Iain Cathcart, aritstic letterbox builder gives Facebook a run for its money in New Zealand wearing a Smokey The Bear hat.
Iain Cathcart is a builder from Northland. The very site in the world where Princess Diana chose to reveal Crown Prince William Windsor to the eyes of the world.
However, Ian’s winning letterbox pictured, has nothing to do with Prince William or British royalty. Here’s the novel story:
“A crown shaped ferro-cement letterbox has won New Zealand’s first quirky letter box competition.
Northland builder Iain Cathcart added libertia plants on top of the letterbox, impressing judges and organisers David and Geraldine Bayly.
The competition attracted about 30 entries from around the country, including Whangarei, Hamilton, Orewa, Helensville, Auckland, Whangaparoa, Makarau and Taranaki.
Mr Cathcart says his crown letterbox was meant to be a tulip flower, but he couldn’t work out the shape perfectly so it turned into a crown.
He won a three day walking holiday in north Auckland.”
Iain’s has had friends ask him to create a special letterbox just for them in appreciation of his quirky creations standing at the entrance way of their Kiwi castles too (ie: one’s hospitable Kiwi home). This man’s on a roll. Iain’s letterbox is very Graystone Mansion (Castle) on The Beverly Hills meets miniature functionality. But in Kiwi style, Graystone gets miniaturized to become more like a hobbit village letterbox Crown. Too cool.
Not bad bro! Made me smile.

VINTAGE SWIFTY LAZAR AND DAME LIZ TAYLOR, OSCARS 1993
Priceless.
Swifty and Dame Liz - Two people who helped build the Hollywood star system. One threw the best parties each year, where next year’s deals were brokered and A-List star rankings were determined.
The other reenacted, what she knew of a star system that had worked for centuries. She acted like a Queen of a commonwealth of stars assembled in Hollywood that were drawn from all over America and the world. Liz Taylor was the center along with Samuel Lazar.
A beaut shot of two star makers – least we forget our manners and our knowledge of history in California today and how America’s brightest stars have been shaped and created. This tradition has always been a global effort.
To be a Maori-Kiwi and add your contribution to this tradition in a small way via a Hollywood blog daily, is what we call “tika” to do in our corner of the world. Always fun to do.
It’s called an expression of “tino rangatiratanga” or a sovereign expression of one’s spirit of liberty in the world, contributing to the future direction of it. Tino rangatiratanga as a part of the world’s new star system, also means “to think green for future generations as people living in a sovereign harmonious state, in dialogue with the environment and the earth.”
It’s a beautiful tradition that all Indigenous Peoples of the world have always believed. Today, Hollywood’s brightest stars think of others (including the least in the world) and they dare to think green for the planet and its people – over any other value system or reward system of fame.
James Cameron‘s film Avatar with this theme, proved this sentiment, achieving the best selling Hollywood film in box office history. Cameron’s direction as a Hollywood auteur bore witness with people the world over, that this is what we want from the City of Angels and other film making meccas of the world. It’s where Hollywood is at, in representing strong messages for the world in cinema and entertainment texts. Anything else, pales in its irrelevant meaninglessness and is archaic.
When I look at this image of Swifty and Dame Liz, they stood for something important. They took on the role of testing the existing star system and making it better, stronger, brighter and more relevant and meaningful. Today in Hollywood, so do a rising new generation of earth-conscious humanitarian stars. These people are re-altering Hollywood’s current star system, making it stronger by ignoring the dross and realigning entertainment with strong stories the world needs today. These stories are green, compassionate, human.
It’s fun living in Hollywood and California. I love being Maori and Kiwi and living right in the middle of it. It’s where Maori belong too. Positioned right in the Middle, shaping the form and future flow of fun! We are so Hollywood in the 2010′s.

LORD OF THE RINGS – PRINCE WILLIAM’S PRINCESS DIANNA TRIBUTE AS A SYMBOL OF HIS LOVE FOR KATE MIDDLETON
How romantic. In turning up for a photo call with the British Media – Prince William Windsor and his bride to be Kate Middleton both looked a picture of love and all things romantic pertaining to a lifelong commitment to each other and inspiring growth and well being for a Commonwealth Empire.
Their engagement ring belonged to Princess Dianna of Wales and of the ring appearing on Kate’s finger as her engagement ring, Prince William had this to say:
“It is very special to me. It was my way to make sure my mother did not miss out on today and the excitement that we are going to spend the rest of our lives together.”
What a sweet thing to say and do. I don’t thing anyone in celebrity land can trump that. This couple are the super romantics of their generation. Needless to say, the woman that last wore this ring had one of the greatest hearts of compassion of any humanitarian of the modern world. Perhaps Kate as the wearer of this ring, will do the same in the world. But no pressure! :)
Image below of Prince William on his debut public presentation to the world, when his mother chose Waitangi of the Bay of Islands, Northland, New Zealand to present this crown Prince to the world’s eyes.
She was a great woman who chose for her son’s presentation to be surrounded with songs, color and beauty of the Ngapuhi, Ngati Hine, Te Rarawa, Te Aupouri maori tribes of New Zealand. On his presentation day to the world’s gaze, he was surrounded by the sounds of Te Reo Rangatira (or, the language of Chiefs). Below is a song, that was sung on this day, called Te Whare e Tu Nei – written by songwriter of Matauri Bay, Katerina Mataira - whose name ironically means Katherine in English. Her song’s title when translated means, This House That Stands. Diana had impeccable taste that her son seems to have inherited in his choice of a wife and a star maker of leaders of a modern world faced with new challenges, requiring a gift of wisdom to be creative towards sustainability in the world’s good future.
It’s nice to see William honor his mother by bringing her engagement ring back into play in the eyes of the world, as a homage to a woman who never saw this Kiwi-presented future King’s engagement day. It’s like full circle of their bond reclaimed in honoring Diana’s memory and his new love with Kate.

Prince William is like every Kiwi’s little brother in a sense of those who watched his parents marry in 1981. Myself, being just one of many, now blogging about this momentus day in his life from California. Surreal stuff. To visit Waitangi for yourself – a right of passage for all people in the U.K who have followed the royals for years, go here to discover more on how to do that. It’s the region where I grew up.

CAROLYN COLE OF LA TIMES DOES AMAZING WAR PHOTOGRAPHY COVERAGE
If I was to ever covet anyone’s career, it would probably be someone artistic like LA Times photographer Carolyn Cole. She sees the faces of war for a job, yet her artistic take on her war coverage – really is modern art. I like her work a lot. Here’s an image from her body of work. The Iraq War as posted byJerome Adamstein (Originally posted On: 3:43 p.m. | August 18, 2010).
In the days leading up to war, many Iraqis didn’t believe they would ever see an American soldier in Baghdad. They marched in support of their longtime leader, Saddam Hussein, who they trusted would see them through. Gloom filled the sky as bombs rained down and the number of dead and wounded grew by the day.
She’s the best. Thanks Carolyn for all of the great coverage as an America foreign press, photo-journalist, serving abroad. You put us in the picture by bringing the world to us. Thank you.
Carolyn Cole’s work is always a reminder that World Peace in the Middle East will always be our goal in the world towards sustainability being a real concept in a modern world.

THANKS FOR THE BLOG LOVE PEOPLE!
Today was the biggest growth day on the blog in two months.
Thanks for the mad love everyone. Together, we’re making history.
God bless you all. Thank you.
Let’s rock this, together!
___________________
What I have learned at this point blogging, is that Maori-Kiwis really can live away from whanau (family) iwi (tribe) in the US full time, for 4 and a half years now.
I’ve learned that I love America, more than most people claim they do.
This is a great nation, diverse and beautiful and I feel very privileged and blessed to have been a small part of it, during some very interesting years. As most of you who read the blog are American, “thank you,” have faith in yourself, as many of us (your friends who are non-American) do. We believe in you!
No matter what the day may serve up, may a growing bond never change between you and your allied nations of friends. When you’re down, it us who, within reason, hold your arms up in shared victory. That’s what real friends are for. Kiwis (New Zealanders) are such real people. We don’t quit good people. The victory is not always monetary. A change for you all perhaps in these not always smooth, political years and growing pains. Instead, the victory we share together is a shared world for future generations, beyond temporary moments of instant gratification known as ‘our lifetime.’
On that note, here’s a group of lads, all of whom are perhaps much more noble than me –yet not one has my profile, even though they all should– whose ancestors all raised them to think of their grandchildren’s grandchildren. Here’s some more Maori entertainment from the priceless lads of K2 Maori Company.
Blogging in H-Wood, most days I feel like one of these bros. Not much different to any one them. I believe that not enough Maori men are seen or visible at high profile levels of leadership in the world. Yet the world needs what Maori men know culturally, at this point in world history. Especially in America, hence a motivating reason of why I blog.
Incidentally, most Kiwi kids grew up singing this song. I was about ten? I think, when I first learned it with my siblings, next door neighbors and friends. I still know all the words off by heart. When I was in Hawaii I heard some Hawaiian bros singing this hori jingle too, so it’s a bit of a global hit, worth sharing. Americans… you’re quite surprising people, to know this song. Thank you all for being a part of our diverse view, that includes Maori presence (taste preferences and observations) daily too in Hollywood and America. Mauri ‘Ola - life to you!

1.2.3 – PALM TREE LIGHT AND U2 IN NEW ZEALAND
“After the flood, all the colors came out”–U2
Pictures: Sunlight through palms and trees, my street and Santa Monica Blvd and Fairfax, West Hollywood California, today.
Video: U2 playing their much loved 360 degrees concert at The Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California.
Message: People would much rather trust a proven rock star then a politician today. They’re more fun – and you get from them, what they promised when you bought into what they said they were offering. Unfortunately the same thing can’t be said of some nations politicians today. Thank goodness for both good politicians and fine rock stars. There’s hope rising in the world. :)
Hot U2 Performance Venue: New Zealand on Thursday 25th November. To see you U2 again in NZ, go here, here and here.
You’re welcome. And there are four Australia dates too for U2 performing live in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Too much rock concert happiness and fun down under. :)

THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – TUE 12.7.10
Transparency is like refined gold, it has to be earned, tested with trust. So, I like people who endeavor to display a transparent spirit as leaders who serve the best interests of all, hence this quote running on this blog: ”In my time as Prime Minister I have tried to push for greater transparency, and we are happy to have an independent body overseeing expenses and entitlements for MPs [politicians], says New Zealand’s leader from Wellywood/ Wellington,”John Key 3 News. Information is like water flow. It often doesn’t flow to the right people who need to have it. Knowledge equals power. Africa needs water. What do we do this knowledge?
Transparency is good in any sincere culture but discretion is a part of wisdom too: ‘Do not let the left hand know what the right hand is doing… Be as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove… A wise man conceals a matter.’
Often people who expect others to be transparent are not themselves–so good men and naturally transparent people–are forced to be wise and manage their own information about themselves, like a cultural taonga of New Zealand belonging to the collective people of Aotearoa New Zealand. Each nation is a knowledge farm of fruitful minds.
Here in America, today - Shiloh Jolie-Pitt has already worked out what her parents do and wants to follow in their footsteps already as a performer turning out a show. “Shi’Bouncy” couldn’t be happier with her baseball bat and military attire as mother Angelina Jolie, sister Zahara and Maddox go to Lee’s Art Store themselves in Manhattan, New York to shop before they imagine and create as artists. Too cute. This family is on the attack today from haters not in Jolie’s league, or, all of her children either. Love it.
