She’s latina, American a native of Texas and proud. Eva Longoria tells via OK! Magazine that ”Every holiday we’ll get together — my aunts and sisters, all the women in the family — and we’ll do an assembly line of tamales. It’s one of my favorite times of year.”

[Image caption - Fan Sam Bellinghamwas lucky enough to get a photo with Beyonce as she arrived at Auckland International Airport, New Zealand].
My Maori mum, Tui of Helensville is too cute. Right on midnight (Los Angeles Time) she called me to say that she had gone with her grandchildren to see Bono (she meant U2) perform in Auckland The Supercity.
She also said that Beyonce was spotted going for lunch the next day at The Soul Cafe in Auckland City. “She’s beautiful dear,” were mom’s words.
Maori moms are so much fun. Mine is in her 70′s and can still rock it out to a humanitarian’s rock concert with her grandkids. Namely, her blackest grandchild Bradley James. Love her!
On the phone we talked about what she feels the world needs today. For once I listened. She spoke of people needing a true sense of manaaki (or hospitality from one’s spirit) that this would warm and brighten the world and make it a better place.
She was deep as well as funny as Maori and all Kiwi moms usually are. I felt her manaakitanga over the phone of a woman who has birthed her children in New Zealand, in Tonga in Fiji and travelled to India, China, Israel, America, Australia, the Phillipines as the global people-loving citizen that mom is. From New Zealand, her home–mom’s love of her big-hearted nation in the world beamed bright across New Zealand’s South Pacific Waters to my Maori-Kiwi heart here in California.
Thanks for the fun phone call mom.
And – go Sam Bellingham in New Zealand! You rock. Los Angeles sees your star Kiwi smile too. xox

Malibu actor, Matthew McConaughey is all smiles wearing his cowboy hat as he films with Emile Hirsch, their new movie Killer Joe in New Orleans.
The film centers on: “When a debt puts a young man’s life in danger, he turns to putting a hit out on his evil mother in order to collect the insurance.” Obviously this is a film pitched for younger audiences living in this economy–with no let up from creditors. A dark humored comedy perhaps?
Anyway, the former Sexiest Man Alive looks like he’s enjoying getting back in touch with his Southern roots.

Speaking to People, Tony Parker says of his divorce case with wife, actor Eva Longoria these things:
Parker denied a report– that he went to court first. “Eva and I have been discussing our situation privately. I was aware that she would be filing for divorce in Los Angeles. “I did not file for divorce in Texas and did not hire divorce attorneys in either Texas or California. We plan to continue to keep our discussions of this matter private,” said Parker via his rep.
The fact that Tony is not turning this issue into a publicity spectacle perhaps indicates that he wants to stay with his wife.
Actors are always dramatic. With so many splits occurring as show biz news right now, perhaps Eva feels she’s being totally normally filing for divorce right now with her celebrity peers. However, let’s see if Longoria will stick with him. This brotha from France is only 28. He’s achieved so much and yet he’s learning like all of us. Perhaps he deserves another chance.
Unlike many other basketball players, Tony’s had to tuxedo up so many times to keep his wife happy to fulfill her star commitments, surely that counts for something in Texas? and California.

“When the memories die, I’m waiting. And I find you – falling down”–Velvet Revolver.

Jessica Simpson News: With news today in the USA, consuming everyone that Jessica Simpson is engaged to ex NFL Footballer Eric Johnson and does NOT want to sign a prenup of her $100 million fortune, this seems to be upsetting everyone. Always a humorist, if you’ve followed Jessica’s career? at all, these are my thoughts on the matter.
1. It’s her money. Who cares? She can do what she wants with it.
2. As an ‘artist’ whose always stood for romance, she asks key questions in the form of this ‘gossip tid bit’ of: what is Love? Is it not always a risk? Isn’t love more important than money? Hilarious and yet so true.
She has a point for her generation, because due to the economy being low, no one’s getting married or having babies here in the US (stats prove these rates are low). The psychological thought ruling America is monetary gain, instead of love or courage in a strong American future to raise kids– predominating, so I like the way Simpson is rolling on this one, to challenge the grinch that has America’s wedding fingers barren and wombs locked up right now, over a stupid “-$” symbol. She’s a bit of a grinch slayer, like a female-David shepherd girl, slaying an invisible giant of debt and fear, strangling America’s emerging generation. She’s armed with a wedding ring rock, and a no-prenup sling. She’s hilarious!
3. Simpson adds value to her star brand, by alluding she’s not about bucks.
4. She shows ‘independence’ from her manager dad, whose not forcing strongly persuading her to sign a prenup.
5. She gives her man, Eric Johnson the max opportunity, to either a) know she loves him more than money and b) lift his game pronto and earn as much as she does.
Good Texan cowgirl wisdom. Let’s see if this spicy taco-loving, singing comedian, skips down the aisle after this couple’s most talked about American engagement of the year.
On a sidenote – Who thought that Jessica is worth as much as Elin Nordegrand post the Tiger Woods divorce, when Jess has never been near a golf iron. She’s surprising. Her new album about ‘love’ is out soon. No matter which way you look at Jessica Simpson, she’s doing modern ‘cowgirl feminism’ for wont of a better term. When girls of today, think being tough or cool, is having ‘total control’ of everything, Jess is doing the opposite. She says, I know a better way than that.
Love gives. Lust controls. She’s Radical.

Today was the biggest growth day on the blog in two months.
Thanks for the mad love everyone. Together, we’re making history.
God bless you all. Thank you.
Let’s rock this, together!

What I have learned at this point blogging, is that Maori-Kiwis really can live away from whanau (family) iwi (tribe) in the US full time, for 4 and a half years now.
I’ve learned that I love America, more than most people claim they do.
This is a great nation, diverse and beautiful and I feel very privileged and blessed to have been a small part of it, during some very interesting years. As most of you who read the blog are American, “thank you,” have faith in yourself, as many of us (your friends who are non-American) do. We believe in you!
No matter what the day may serve up, may a growing bond never change between you and your allied nations of friends. When you’re down, it us who, within reason, hold your arms up in shared victory. That’s what real friends are for. Kiwis (New Zealanders) are such real people. We don’t quit good people. The victory is not always monetary. A change for you all perhaps in these not always smooth, political years and growing pains. Instead, the victory we share together is a shared world for future generations, beyond temporary moments of instant gratification known as ‘our lifetime.’
On that note, here’s a group of lads, all of whom are perhaps much more noble than me –yet not one has my profile, even though they all should– whose ancestors all raised them to think of their grandchildren’s grandchildren. Here’s some more Maori entertainment from the priceless lads of K2 Maori Company.
Blogging in H-Wood, most days I feel like one of these bros. Not much different to any one them. I believe that not enough Maori men are seen or visible at high profile levels of leadership in the world. Yet the world needs what Maori men know culturally, at this point in world history. Especially in America, hence a motivating reason of why I blog.
Incidentally, most Kiwi kids grew up singing this song. I was about ten? I think, when I first learned it with my siblings, next door neighbors and friends. I still know all the words off by heart. When I was in Hawaii I heard some Hawaiian bros singing this hori jingle too, so it’s a bit of a global hit, worth sharing. Americans… you’re quite surprising people, to know this song. Thank you all for being a part of our diverse view, that includes Maori presence (taste preferences and observations) daily too in Hollywood and America. Mauri ‘Ola - life to you!
Jessica Simpson‘s rep states that the Boots singer is engaged to Eric Johnson after Johnson popped the question on Thursday! Jess is here sporting her engagement ring at a mall appearance for the Jessica Simpson Collection in Kansas yesterday.
The “thrilled” singer has recently released her holiday single and like any entrepreneur with stuff to sell, Jess will be on the road with Eric to promote her album in the coming weeks.
Nice one! With birth numbers low in America and marriage rates the lowest in 100 years, what Jessica is doing is called “leadership.” Congrats.

Hola! Gwyneth Paltrow is taking over Glee with a rendition of Cee-Lo Green’s Forget You song.
She sounds very early New Edition actually in this version, with an early Jackson 5 catchy jangly beat and tune. So American!
Then again with Gwyneth’s outro to the song, “Let’s go get some tacos” – she’s beyond American, she’s both early California and New Mexico and Cali-America now. Lol!
Oscars goes high school for a bit of fun. Press play for a laugh.
And for the full lyrics of the song, that give the jingle its full context, go here. And because Gwynnie’s outro directs America to follow the golden brown Hispanic-American trail (the people with the deciding vote now in America)–and she’s made me laugh five times now–try watching the ending of this clip too a few times for chuckles. Too true and too funny! With the jangle of change in our pockets, least we forget our Americano gratitude status, Tacos R US! Yes!!!
Go girl! That outro is good writing. Needless to say, Glee really does need to cast some real Latino and Latina teens about now. I don’t get it, there’s like about 2,000 who go clubbing at CircusDisco in Hollywood every weekend. It’s not like there’s a shortage to choose from for Glee’s updated casting needs here in Cali, where Glee is filmed every week. Why hide them?
On that note, let’s go get some hangi and some palusami too and maybe even some sausages from Pak ‘nSave and fire up the whanau BBQ as well!
UP! Let’s go groovy people of the world. If you’re from: East Los Angeles/ Santa Ana/ El Monte and Oxnard of California or Laredo/ Brownsville/McAllen/ El Paso of Texas, or Hialeah and Miami of Florida…Smile… chances are I’m talking to you. :)

Kanye West gives an interview about George W. Bush to talk show host Matt Lauer while President Obama is offshore, on The Today Show.
George mentioned Kanye in his new book. It’s kinda a unifying book narrative link into the current presidency, so a smart move from a past Texan president in re-entering the global political arena via a memoirs book, I reckon. But I’m not American, so let’s let the American people speak on that themselves. I must say, George’s plastic surgery touch ups look all good though. Amazing what time on your hands can engender. Love it!
My whole thing with George’s opener with Matt Lauer in this interview is simply this: how can Kanye a black man, be the racist? Okay, whatevz! Too funny how America switches it up, when needs be. Makes me laugh.
Alright the hori in me, makes me say: Is this the same George W. that helped accelerate a George W. financial melt down, that Presient Obama’s face is now wearing? Same thing, different face… Yes, I do believe it is. So for George to call a singer/ songwriter Kanye a “racist” is kinda dumb with a political? segue back in to US cultural life. Kanye’s a pop star George. That’s all he’s ever claimed to be. Nice work though.
Any thoughts on this? Leave a comment if you care for American entertainment and are a Kanye fan.

Flesh and blood of empire, dressed in open black fabric, set against a senate’s marble pillar, as a new generation rolling stone–poetic symbology, Georgia May Jagger stars as a messanger of Peace.
With a down to earth, Texan supermodel mom, Jerry Hall and a rock star English dad Mick Jagger, Georgia May Jagger has it all going on, for Harper’s Bazaar‘s stunning magazine cover. Rock royalty and fashion royalty fused together.
Born this way, GMJ, is too much! Gorgeous. Bazaar in her cross-cultural beauty and second generation Hollywood connections.
Here’s some old school Pauly Fuemana music- How Bazaar in celebration of this kid, finding her own platform in the world, by choosing to walk in her mother’s sashsaying stilletos too. Incidentally, although Pauly’s music video appears to be shot in California, it was actually filmed in the culturally diverse and always festive city of Otara.
I wonder if Georgia May, loves rugby football as much as Prince Harry Windsor and President Bill Clinton do too and if she’s going to jet down to the Rugby World Cup in 2011, to lean against New Zealand pillars or majestic native kauri trees there. What a beautiful bazaar blend this girl is. A double rose of the U.K and America. How bazaar! Cross-cultural hotness. :)

When I first got to America four and a half years back, we flew out from Los Angeles, The City of Angels to spend some time in Houston, Texas, where Solange Knowlesgrew up.
On the front desk of our Hotel’s reception was a lady named Verna who had lost 13 family members overnight in New Orleans to hurricane Katrina’s unexpected ravaging effects. Verna had been relocated to Houston.
Though her grief was fresh, Verna’s smile and joie de vie for life, was a gift to us all. Reminding us each morning how precious life is, and how as a gift, we should try and use each day of our lives to be happy and make a difference to others. Verna chose to express this joy for life, by wearing a different colored wig every day. As a surprising entertainer, Vera would turn on a daily show and she was hard to keep up with.
As a star of America, Verna’s spirit burns bright in my heart and memory. Each time she smiled in her job, I realized that I could never really complain again, about anything that could ever possibly or would ever happen to me. She was my first American hero of sorts in America that I’d met. I loved her.
Here’s Cambell Robertson‘s words as the New York Times looks back on the resilience of New Orleans people in celebration of their recovery at the five year mark since Hurricane Katrina occurred. What doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger and shines brighter, into a fuller day.
“NEW ORLEANS — This city, not that long ago, appeared to be lost. Only five years have passed since corpses were floating through the streets, since hundreds of thousands of survivors sat in hotel rooms and shelters and the homes of relatives, learning from news footage that they were among the ranks of the homeless.
For most of the last year, in many parts of the city, the waters finally seemed to be receding.”
Recovery of any kind, involves people surviving a flood–whether that flood be due to a hurricane or natural disasters effects, or that of a flood of economic, manmade disaster leashed upon the world–hope for recovery victims, is like an ark of Peace, that we are all called to build somehow with our imaginations and our hands. Katrina is a metaphor of all who are in recovery, that rebuilding a State, a city, the dreams of community is achievable with kindness, resilience, strength, tenacity and truckloads of pure old-fashioned American courage.

Lies. Walking After Midnight. All I Ever Wanted, sung live in Munich by Kelly Clarkson are reminders of how talented this woman really is. Wow!
A vocalist’s dream feast on display in the way Clarkson effortlessly scales the octaves with so much soul and notably with only 1/4 of the ego of more popular female vocalists. She’s a superstar singer.

Kristen Stewart and Q’orianker Kilcher have Summit Entertainment’s Twilight Eclipse casting in common. Kristen’s casting as Bella Swan for the third film of Stephenie Meyers novels, proves Kristen Stewart is hot enough to make both Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen and Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black both have chemistry, both onscreen and also in real life, with a cinematic association to the LA actress.
However, when put to public vote, it is Q’orianker Kilcher who is rating today at #1, on the issue of the Twilight Saga’s casting choices. Kilcher, the actress who starred at 14 years of age as Pocahontas in The New World, is the rising star of Horiwood.Com the past two month. She’s got blog heat and an exciting future in film ahead of her. Q’orianker is 19 years old and has a bright future in mainstream movies.
Horiwood also congratulates Julia Jones III, 30, for landing the role of Leah Clearwater, 19, for Twilight Saga Eclipse. Beating out beautiful, highly accomplished, younger and even more intelligent actresses, is no easy feat. Congratulations too Ms Jones. Perhaps Julia Jones could be a Meryl Streep kind of actress. Meryl is still going strong in her 60s. That could be Julia Jones’ story too if she has staying power in Hollywood.
