A DIVA-STATED NEW ZEALAND FRIEND PIC, AUSTRALIA’S ANGEL SUPERMODEL AND THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – WED 12.1.10
A diva touched down in New Zealand’s rock star city (Auckland The Supercity) recently to land on top again in today’s Hollywood news. Here’s Beyonce Knowles pic as snapped with a 19 year-old happy student on Bee’s recent visit to the green paradise nation.
Our entertainment celebrity news also celebrates Australian model Miranda Kerr strutting her Aussie-Angel winged self on a global runway–as she awaits to be a mother in the world. Apart from The Queen Bee, even Wikileaks scandals of the world’s most powerful leaders could not trump this Aussie supermodel from taking out top honors.
Fun choices today on a mixed day of sadness and joy for me as a Kiwi in America. Here’s our top ten in Hollywood. Thanks everyone.

GOOD GOLLY – JAY-Z AND BEYONCE ARE QUITE A DRAW AT LUNCH IN NEW ZEALAND
Yesterday my mom called to say Beyonce and Jay-Z lunched at Soul Cafe on the viaduct basin of Auckland The Supercity. It was quite a moment. Here’s the highlights while the couple stayed at Mollies a boutqiue hotel in the trendy restaurant-suburb of Ponsonby. Here’s Ten Things about the superstar couples lunch in New Zealand:
New York Body Guards: The couple travel with bodyguards who were toting”thick raspy New Yorker accents.”
Beyonce loves New Zealand Snapper: New Zealand snapper is a deep sea fish that you grow up catching as a kid with your dad on fishing weekends. It’s loved by Japan, China and those in the know in Europe. The cool thing is, when you go to any local fish ‘n chip store near a beach, snapper is also on the menu for $4 – $6 a piece. With a beer it’s delicious. She’s got good taste in food this girl.
Jay-Z dined on John Dory fish: Jigga also had fish. Apparently his taste preference was the John Dory and fries. John Dory is oilier in texture than snapper–and in my opinion not as good, although it is faintly sweeter to the taste, but less juicy on the palate. Having said that, all New Zealand seafood (Australian seafood too) is good.
Fun with cameras: The Queen Bee of R n’ B, took great delight in (snapping) photographing Jay-Z and the paparazzi too with her camera as a reminder that it was Jay-Z’s entertainment moment, not hers. Gracious and fun.
What wine did the star couple share? The Gibbston Valley Pinos Gris. With a sense of Kiwi humor, the gold medal winning wine is described as so: “A very bright nose, strongly infused with passionfruit. On the palate, the energy of the wine is juxtaposed against a very creamy, expansive palate. A surge of concentrated fruit relaxes all the way through the long lingering finish. An amazingly versatile wine with food, its strength is that it combines fullness of structure with pleasing aromatics. We have consistently found our Pinot Gris cellar well between 5-8 years.” You can order a case of it here.
The onlookers at nearby tables: Who should have been at this lunch are TV directors/ producers: Tini Molyneux, Nicole Hoey, Joanna Paul, Stacey Morrison, Paora Maxwell, Greg Mayor, Eliza Bidois, Scotty Morrison, Matai Rangi Smith to name a few star Auckland show biz entertainers–who could have provided Bee and Jay-Z with some fun cultural sense of Kiwi humor. However, this is who was present: TV Game Show Producer Julie Christie. Magazine editor Bevan Rapson. Tres blanca, I must say for NZ’s colorful entertainment diversity, but all good.
Onlookers quote of the day: Said winemaker Kim Crawford: “I walked out the front of the restaurant to have a smoke,” Crawford told the Herald on Sunday, “and I went to pull out my ciggies from my pocket and the bodyguard yelled ‘No photos!’ I said, ‘f*** off, mate, this is New Zealand. It’s just cigarettes. He did apologise, so that was okay.”
Someone needs to tell Kim, that if you spark up a joint in California (in many parts of the US) no one would look at you twice. Cigarettes are like what the devil smokes–they are satanic for one’s lungs is the belief, so um, yeah! It’s very self-righteous of the US, but it’s the developing trend of etiquette here. The French will love this story though from Kim Crawford. Too funny. What a cowboy! It’s just that in air polluted cities, people like to avoid cigarette smoke in preference of the ganja–yet in New Zealand with good clean air, the reverse is probably true when lunching. We don’t have air issues in the same way big US cities do. Every little bit of air management helps here.
A bit about Mollies – celebrity couples romance star-accommodation spot: Mollies romantic boutique hotel accommodation in Auckland city New Zealand, is a small luxury hotel, named “Best New Small Hotel in The World” by Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report Hotel Awards. Think Ireland, meets classic operatic overtones with a hint of Asia-Pacific freshness to get the gist. I smile when I see a picture of Mollies. It’s a converted colonial styled house that once belonged to Liz and Rick who were my bosses when I was 16 living, studying and working in Auckland at Rick’s Cafe Americain. Love what’s been done to this house. Hot!
The restaurant exit: Jigga and Bee’s romantic 90-minute late lunch saw them ushered to an awaiting Audi that transported the star couple to a helicopter to chopper their way a short distance to Mt Smart Stadium for the final concert of the New Zealand leg where Jay-Z played support act to U2.
Are Jay-Z and Beyonce still in New Zealand? No. They flew out yesterday.
[Photog credit: Stephen McNicholl: Jay-Z does his thing in concert, having fun at Auckland The Supercity's Mount Smart Stadium concert venue]
I remember watching Beyonce live at Mt Smart Stadium myself, long before she was ‘officially dating’ her hubby with her girl group Destiny’s Child. The moment was harmonious and magical under a big super top tent. She proudly wore the biggest blondest afro wig, her head could hold and hula skirts for much of the concert. At the same venue, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Bon Jovi, Alanis Morissette and Robbie Williams are also fond rock star moments I remember seeing at Mt Smart. Auckland The Supercity is one of the best venues you could ever see a rock star perform in. It’s a place that is getting LOUDER in a good way, with rock star diverstity! Such a cool city with fun surrounding adventure activities to enjoy with a quality of restaurant life and culture that’s second to none in the world. Much fun. Having seen Beyonce in concert here too at the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles, you just ignore exaggerated reports that she towers in a red dress and Loubouton leopard print heels. Bee is actually average or short in stature, like many of America’s most famous pop stars are, if you see them live. There’s nothing much to them, but their spirits are larger than life in concert. It’s all camera work, best angles and mega-projection. As a performer, Beyonce is second to none. She’s like a Jackson, or lately, a Bieber–they’re the best show people in the world.
My nephew Bradley James totally digs Jay-Z and was so mega-excited that Jigga was performing at this concert with U2. He was there watching the concert, a dream come true. Apparently these lads were amazing!

SAM BELLINGHAM, BEYONCE, BONO, MAORI MOMS AND U2 IN AUCKLAND THE SUPERCITY, NEW ZEALAND
[Image caption - Fan Sam Bellingham was lucky enough to get a photo with Beyonce as she arrived at Auckland International Airport, New Zealand].
My Maori mum, Tui of Helensville is too cute. Right on midnight (Los Angeles Time) she called me to say that she had gone with her grandchildren to see Bono (she meant U2) perform in Auckland The Supercity.
She also said that Beyonce was spotted going for lunch the next day at The Soul Cafe in Auckland City. “She’s beautiful dear,” were mom’s words.
Maori moms are so much fun. Mine is in her 70′s and can still rock it out to a humanitarian’s rock concert with her grandkids. Namely, her blackest grandchild Bradley James. Love her!
On the phone we talked about what she feels the world needs today. For once I listened. She spoke of people needing a true sense of manaaki (or hospitality from one’s spirit) that this would warm and brighten the world and make it a better place.
She was deep as well as funny as Maori and all Kiwi moms usually are. I felt her manaakitanga over the phone of a woman who has birthed her children in New Zealand, in Tonga in Fiji and travelled to India, China, Israel, America, Australia, the Phillipines as the global people-loving citizen that mom is. From New Zealand, her home–mom’s love of her big-hearted nation in the world beamed bright across New Zealand’s South Pacific Waters to my Maori-Kiwi heart here in California.
Thanks for the fun phone call mom.
And – go Sam Bellingham in New Zealand! You rock. Los Angeles sees your star Kiwi smile too. xox

VELVET REVOLVER, “FALL TO PIECES” LIVE IN HOUSTON, TEXAS 2005
“When the memories die, I’m waiting. And I find you – falling down”–Velvet Revolver.
You know when good rock bands need to emerge, when footage of a rock band live in concert in2005 is rating hot today like a leading rock bands recent concert. It denotes a trend that people want rock music that has lyrics with depth.
This is the case with Velvet Revolver and their Houston Texas concert footage that is being released on DVD. It’s U2 status hot news today within American borders. Exciting news for rock music proponents.
Heres Spin Magazine writers with the story: “While Scott Weiland has officially left Velvet Revolver to record and tour (or not tour) with his original moneymaking act, Stone Temple Pilots, and the remaining members of VR are currently auditioning singers, a new DVD that revisits the band’s heyday arrives Nov. 16. Watch a concert performance of “Fall to Pieces” below.
Live in Houston features a 2005 gig starring the band’s original lineup: Weiland, guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum, and guitarist Dave Kushner. Besides Velvet Revolver hits like “Fall to Pieces” and “Slither,” the 78-minute set also includes versions of STP hits “Sex Type Thing” and “Crackerman,” and GNR staples “It’s So Easy” and “Used to Love Her.”

MUSIC – THIS IS LOVE VIA CAIRO KNIFE FIGHT
A bit of loud music. Least we get too soft. Heaven forbid that from ever ocurring.
Here’s the latest from the Christchurch band, Cairo Knife Fight. I love Kiwis because although many may have never been to Cairo, they don’t care, they’re still connected to international countries, places, concerns, intellectually and with a good sense of irony too.
They bring the exotic into their culture via pop culture. Here’s an example.
JUSTIN GASTON IS HORIWOOD.COM’S MAN OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER 2010
In August and September, no person could beat Justin Gaston in popularity, ratings, interest on this Hollywood website. That probably deserves a new section, like Man of The Month, in Hollywood.
Justin Gaston is a young man, who just keeps on going – working away on his American dream.
He’s known the roller coaster ride of fame’s highs and lows, but his guitar and his ability to tweet Psalmists lyrics, has got Justin through.
My favorite recently is: “blessed are the feet of those who bring good news.” Or, be a good messanger of good things. That’s a daily battle in Hollywood to extremes because of the nature of the city, so this kid is doing okay balancing out the extremes of a big entertainment city.
Whether it be modeling underwear, taking his kilt off to save animals, enduring public celebrity relationship heat and a break up, or strumming his guitar, recording an album or reading his bible; Gaston is a true Hollywood story that most people in L.A and internationally too, can all seem to relate to.
I follow this kid on twitter. He’s as moody as sh*t, but don’t blame the player, blame the game and gauge the spirit, of that player in the game. This kid has spirit. And what I know of this city, people with spirit, are much needed within ‘the game.’ They are the gameplayers They shape the game, for good or bad. Already an American leader, gauging by daily votes alone, this man’s a good one.
Cheers ears. Keep songwriting, breathing and being. Thanks for all the content and ratings on this blog you’ve shared with Horiwood.Com readers, many also your fans. Always look Up. Always forgive. Believe in reconciliation where love matters. And … Always Rock on!

THE MAKING OF RADIOACTIVE MUSIC VIDEO WITH KINGS OF LEON
“It’s in the water. Sons and daughters, in all their glory. It’s where you came from.”
Kings of Leon are proof that Americans who know their old spirituals today, are kind of cleaning up in the music world. People need hope. Kings of Leon say Water as metaphor for Spirit, for America 2010s. And judging by the degree of despair out there in these recession rebuilding years of the world–I think that this aint going away. People need spiritual tools, beyond material values to Be Somebody.
Love the choir in this music video. These lads are with the program, despite what their grandmother may think about their “hell” status. Nice fusion cross-over music. Reflecting America as its been for ages, but on screen more and more. Let’s get more visual! To go UP! :)

POSTWAR AMERICAN ART 1945 by R.E ANDERSON
In 1945, the men who were fortunate enough to return from serving in World War II, became heroes of recovery. Defenders of liberty.
These days, men (women and children) are caught up in a global economic war, so you don’t need to wear a military or marine uniform, to still be a soldier or a hero of this rebuilding effort in the world. You can be forgiven too, for feeling like you’re recovering from fighting for country in a war. The war is invisible, so perhaps it’s highly likely, that you have been.
This 1945 painting in oil by artist R.E Anderson speaks today. Courage and strength to serve one’s country. Let’s make America stronger.

NIKKI SIX STILL HOLDS A FLAME FOR KAT VON D
Jesse James sighting with Kat Von D of LA Ink is the hottest news item at this minute on Horiwood.Com. Many of you are seeking Nikki news. So you Motley lot, here we go. This from August 12th 2010, via RRRB:
MÖTLEY CRÜE/SIXX: A.M. bassist Nikki Sixx has posted the following message on his official MySpace page:
“I am sorry I haven’t written to you all in a while in the form of a ‘blog,’ but it seems the instant-contact back-and-forth of Twitter has gotten the best of me, too. Well, that and the fact that I’ve been finishing a new book, a new SIXX: A.M. album of songs, a MÖTLEY CRÜE tour, a radio show, press, a clothing line, and let’s not forget the most important thing I do in life is being a father of four.
“So, excuses aside, how are you? Is your summer full of positive energy as we slowly head towards the fall? My favorite creative time of year, but this summer has been fruitful for sure.
“I wanted to thank all of the fans that came out to Europe to see MÖTLEY CRÜE play this summer. It was one of the best times of my life. Not only were the crowds great but I also had such a wonderful time having Kat[Sixx's on-again girlfriend and 28-year-old tattoo artist Kat Von D (bornKatherine Von Drachenberg)] along with me for the whole tour.
Aw! How cute. Expect matching tattoos to follow for Nikki and Kat, any day on Kat’s new season’s show no doubt. When you’re a reality TV star, you always need fresh content. It’s bound to happen.
Each man to their own, but why does a rocker think that having his girl give up her life to go on tour with him, is a good deal for her? Too funny! But go Nikki Six!

PRO BONO AND U2 ARE ROCK MUSICS BIG EARNERS BECAUSE THEY HAVE COURAGE TO SONGWRITE NEW WORK
Today I’m reflecting on why an Irish rock group arose form poverty to become the world’s dominating force of rock music who according to Forbes Magazine 2010, made bank with a whopping $130 million of earnings. Not bad for an 80′s super rock group who work tirelessly for a sense of world peace via their music profiles and sonic pictures on an audio level. Principles of creativity from the 80′s need to take a front seat in the 2010′s. Big thinking creative times are a good remedy, towards economic recovery and growth still.
Although U2 told us to batton down the hatches and simultaneously ‘Put on Your Boots,’ (irony), we still love these super rockers today, because this band of brothers and fathers, still dare to songwrite new material, father their children, collaborate with other artists at world events while singing in new Presidents too. Hot. But back to songwriting and music artists being encouraged to write new songs.
Forbes says: “Live Nation ( LYV - news - people ), which recently merged with Ticketmaster to become the most dominant force in the live music business, now serves as an industry bellwether. It recently announced that ticket sales for its top 100 acts dropped 9% for the year, amid a 17% drop in the concert business at large, and it expects sales to fall further.
The real drop in music industry earnings may be yet to come. “Everybody was surprised by how well the business held up last year, despite the economy crashing around us,” says Gary Bongiovanni, the editor of Pollstar, a concert trade publication. The biggest fear of some promoters is oversaturation of the market, as the same acts tour year after year without a new album to support. That may soon lead to a decline in both ticket sales and ticket prices. “In today’s world artists have to tour to make money because they can’t just sit at home and collect their royalties and expect to make their mortgage payments,” Bongiovanni says.
Courage to write original songs. Let’s go rocking songwriters! And on the note of a band of fathers who songwrite and rock it out today. Let’s consider the band Rossmore as a potential opening act for U2 here in Hollywood at the Rose Bowl in the future, because Rossmore rock their music out too. Anything is possible when you possess the creativity and courage to write and perform good music. Let’s go rock stars!

BANDIT GLEE COWBOYS – WEST HOLLYWOOD ROCKS CINCO DE MAYO
What were the kids of West Hollywood up to last night for Cinco de Mayo? Nada much but a little bit of tequila, lime, salt and good old fashioned rock n’ roll –along the bar tops of Los Angeles. It’s kinda of like the movie Coyote Ugly that starred Tyra Banks–but the flipped out version.
Here’s bandito boi (top) who was dancing to Glee‘s It’s My Life/ Confessions -Part II song at Mickeys when this photograph was snapped.
And, here’s cowboy rocker (bottom) dancing to Pour Some Sugar On Me. The Taylor Swift with Def Leppard version at Eleven. Lyrics to both songs follow after the jump:
If there’s one thing about the kids of America–they always know how to have their fun. And… isn’t it cool, to see West Hollywood having a good push to grow the rock n’ roll genre. You’ve gotta love this city–such good sports!
[If you are a member of the GOP party and are obsessed with West Hollywood's cultural life and night spots, (as my blog stats tell me), then when you come to West Hollywood, make sure you stay at The Chamberlain Hotel--which is walking distance from most night life hot spots --that are world famous in LA.
