Who ever would have thought that would happen?!
Oh… and Oprah wanted to be a sailer for a nanosecond and dreamed that she would and could be–just so she could say that for a cool magazine interview in LA’s Parade Magazine, after leaving Chicago and heading to California to start her new TV network. In the interview her comments about television are so deep. (See bold bits).
I think for a split nano-second the big O wanted to be a very popular Australian sailing teen, like Jessica Watson (above). Why not?!!! Even role models need role models. Says Oprah: “I was questioning, Why don’t I build a boat and sail around the world? Why don’t I learn French and find a nice little house in Provence? I could see myself bicycling with my baguettes and the whole thing. But I talked it over with my friends, and they all said, ‘You’re not going to be happy doing nothing.’ What will be a failure is if nobody comes and watches this network. What others will perceive as failure is if some shows don’t succeed. I’m concerned about the bigger overall picture: my belief that people are basically good and want to see the good in them reflected through their experiences and the shows that they watch. This is a gamble I’m taking. I believe that the banal state of television, the kind of insipid space that we’re in–that you can have as many channels as we have and not find anything that really interests you–means that to a great extent we’ve lost our way.”

MJ’s 3 kids are in direct competition with Justin Bieber –with these four kids selling merch, so they need to do press about now. Oprah’s final season is the best spot for MJ’s kids to appear on, so it’s hardly likely Aunt Janet is mad with Oprah at all. In TV land that’s still top billing.

iPAD – OPRAH AND STEVE JOBS PLAY SANTA FOR OPRAH’S FAVORITE THINGS OF 2010
Audience reactions of Oprah’s favorite things show are making the viral rounds on YouTube as it’s her final season in Chicago. Watch the insanity and fun above.
Oprah‘s most favorite thing of all this year is an iPad.
Techcrunch reports the talk show host announced the “iPad is her number one favorite thing ever. Words cannot describe how I feel for this device. I love the scrabble app.”
Guests of Oprah’s favorite things episode also got given a five-year Netflix subscription, a Sony 3-D television, a Sony Blu-Ray Player and a Kiva-Groupon partnership.
So as not to leave Bill Gates product lines out of her Santa act, Microsoft’s Bing also got a shoutout, giving the audience gift cards to donate money with.
How lucky is everyone in Ms O’s audience this year? Very. Adults acting like children at Christmas. Too funny.

MARIE OSMOND ON SON MICHAEL BRYAN TO OPRAH
‘I told him ‘Mike, I will be there on Monday and everything is going to be okay’. But depression does not wait until Monday.’–Marie Osmond gives a heart-wrenching interview, about the loss of her son Michael Bryan to Oprah Winfrey on Thursday’s Oprah here in the US.
Michael committed suicide by leaping from an apartment building in Los Angeles. 9 months later, this story, still makes us all so sad here in the USA.
What has the Osmond family, not been through? They’re quite amazing people really.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY TALKS OF MICHAEL JACKSON TO OPRAH WINFREY
This is a meeting of big American celebrity names. Reports Pop Eater: ‘Lisa Marie told Oprah that she was in England when she heard the news of Michael Jackson‘s death and John Travolta was one of the first to break it to her.
When Oprah asked what she felt, she replied, “Real honest to goodness shock, not even tears. I was floored, honestly floored.”
On Jackson’s drug problem, she claims she didn’t notice until the very end of their marriage. “I didn’t really suspect and catch on until just before I filed for divorce. There was just an occasion, an incident where he had collapsed and he was in the hospital,” she described of the scene in 1995 when Jackson collapsed while rehearsing for an HBO concert and doctors blamed it on a viral infection.
“It was very confusing what was wrong. Every day there was a different report. And I couldn’t tell what was happening,” she added. “I couldn’t really get a straight answer about what was happening with him and I think we were all a little bit in the dark. At that point, I think I got from various indications that that was going on then.”
“There were times that I would pick him up from certain doctors’ offices and he would not be coherent,” Presley remembered.
Something she wanted to make clear, their romance was for real. “I honestly can tell you, it was every sense a normal marriage.”
“One of the very highest points of my life was when things were going really well and he and I were united together and he and I had an understanding about some of the people and things that could go on around him and he was with me on those things and we were a unit and I could take care of him,” she told Oprah.
“For some reason, I don’t know what happens when someone passes away and this is what’s come of it. But I’ve come to have all this love again and understanding for him. I don’t know why it had to take all that to have this happen. That upsets me a bit,” Presley opined.
“Were you angry with him before?” Oprah questioned.
“I was very angry. I was so angry. I felt that we were so united and then at some point he pushed me out.”
“There was a very profound point in the marriage when he had to make a decision — was it the drugs and the sort of vampires or me? And he pushed me away.”
She compared Jackson to her father, Elvis Presley. “The one thing that correlates with Michael and my father on this subject, they had the luxury of creating whatever reality around them they wanted to create.”
Winfrey brought up the similar way in which both her father and her ex-husband lived and died.
“It really blows me away, to be honest with you. I still try to figure out why? What is it that I had to go through this twice?” she recalled. “I went through it once, that was painful and I went through it again.”
She reveals that she wished she had reached out to Jackson before his death. “I know it’s naive to think that I could have (saved him) but I wanted to. Had I made a call, had I stopped being so shut off from him, had I just said ‘How are you?’ I really regret that I didn’t.”

HUMOR – BABY GLITTERY NAIL POLISH by “JUSTINE” BIEBER
Currently in America, a celebrity is not a star in Hollywood, unless they can wear a gay badge, as a glittery medal, with every other badge they pile on top of their entertainment mix (black + white, hip hop + country +rock etc etc etc) , in order to entertain, make a buck, inspire others or lead and be percieved as ‘cool.’ It’s about recognizing creative people, their contributions to world entertainment, fashion, the arts etc (even if they are gay) and their humanitarian concerns – that have not always been afforded to minority groups, while leaders grabbed their bling and wore it and ran with it anyway to be great in history’s pages.
In any culture, to take from someone’s creative gifts, and then diss them as a person is rude. Gay people are some of the most creative in the history of art and entertainment. This is America’s way of honoring, all gay people have given the U.S, behind closed doors, from the side wings of the stage, or in the backrow’s of chorus lines too – in its history. The suggested remedy is to: Wear a gay badge, or glitter badge of sorts, as a trend, to acknowledge this history of oppression and thievary of sorts, towards the gay community.
Justin Bieber‘s take on ‘a gay badge’ is of course, to make money offa it (he’s a mogul after all). Reports, Styleite:
“Will you be buying Bieber’s new line of nail polish? Probably not. The “One Less Lonely Girl” collection is the product of a collaboration between Bieber and Nicole (OPI’s cheesy younger sister).
“The first six shades will be sold exclusively at Walmart during the holidays, while eight more will be rolled out in January. Don’t live near a Walmart (although we’re pretty sure that’s impossible)?
Have no fear! The polish will be sold at Target, Sears and Ulta come February.”
Nail polish for teen boys and girls. Now that’s clever, with a very loud ka ching, going in Bieber’s teen wallet. Smart.
Is gender-bending, or gay camp, cool? America is all about cross-cultural and cross-gender experimentation today. In a locked economy, Americans are being urged to redefine existing toys, not appreciated, and to mix them up. Bieber, a Canadian who has taken America by storm, is doing the art of camp, better than many American celebs right now. Here’s Bieber’s baby hit to remind us, of why this kid is a big star. Go laddie.
Of course, its not the gay community that are making the big bucks from gay or glitter badge wearing. Which makes this nail polish story, quite a study. Like, what’s being achieved? Really? Buy Bieber’s nail polish if you wanna. He’s a worthy star of supporting.

Reports PopWatch: “How does an average person like J.K Rowling who came from humble beginnings — single mother on the dole, writing in cafés — go on to create something so huge? The big news — or almost news — from her Oprah interview filmed in Scotland that aired today, is that Rowling is definitely open to writing “an eighth, ninth, tenth” Potter novel, though she quickly followed up by saying, “I feel I’m done, but you never know.” A slight quote to hang your hat on, but it’s a measure of the influence she commands that even the barest hope of future Potter novels could set the publishing and movie worlds a-tizzy.”

Scotland was home to Oprah Winfrey for a day, when she jetted in to interview J.K Rowling in Rowling’s Edinburgh home. The tea and cake setting in the background is very countryside quaint. How civilized of J.K.
The interview is said to be one of Oprah’s most fascinating interviews yet. And with Oprah including Jonathan Franzen‘s Freedom book into her book club list too, it’s clear that her book club is now worth more to Winfrey than the Oprah Show as she gets set to take the club with her to California and her new start next year on OWN network.

The talk show’s new O.W.N cable TV network kick starts in L.A on January 1st for a brand new year of broadcast in The City of Angels.

OPRAH WINFREY TO BE HONORED IN KENNEDY CENTER’S HONOREES
“Like a grab-bag dinner party of the cultural elite — the star power on hand is undeniably powerful,” writes David Ng, of the Kennedy Center’s annual honors list for leading figures of Arts & Entertainment.
Unsurprisingly and well deservedly enough, Oprah Winfrey leads the line up of Kennedy honorees this year. Go Oprah! The Obamas will be on hand to present Oprah with her award. And, other people Winfrey fancies herself receiving an award with this year are: choreographer Bill T. Jones, composer Jerry Herman, singer Merle Haggard (If We Make it Through December) and former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney.
Not to diminish from The Kennedy Center’s esteemed honorees pickers (namely David Rubenstein), Winfrey has great taste in fellow hardworking, creative, imaginative minds. And a Beatle and a Winfrey being honored at the Kennedy Center–that’s pretty legendary this year. December 5th is when the awards ceremony takes place.
A cultural Ambassador of the U.K, Sir Paul paid tribute to JFK, saying: ”President Kennedy was such an icon for us in the Sixties, and his presidency was so inspiring for so many people that it is a great pleasure for this kid from Liverpool to receive this honor.”
The Beatles’ first ever U.S. visit, occurred a few months after JFK’s November 1963 assassination, providing a much needed uplifting change in the mood of the American people while accelerating the trajectory of rock ‘n’ roll that spearheaded the years of 1960s cultural phenomenon.
I guess it must be asked, why has it taken so long for Oprah to get her award? Oprah will join a rare handful of TV entertainers honored by the center in a line up that includes Carol Burnett, Bill Cosby and Lucille Ball and Johnny Carson. Is there an award really, that is befitting of Oprah’s contribution to Arts, Entertainment & Humanities? Let’s hope this one is sufficient because she’s quite some lady, loved in 140 nations daily on TV.

In his book, The Measure of a Man, Hollywood legend Sidney Poiter says:

JUST FLASH MOB DANCE: I GOT A FEELING WITH OPRAH AND THE BLACK EYED PEAS

Here in L.A, sweetness sits beside you, when sometimes you can feel a tad bit gloomy on things, and sweetness makes you smile.
Kim Bryan showed me flash mob clips today, that made us both laugh. Although the Opera singing clips were amazing, let’s go with a taste of Illinois. The smile on Oprah‘s face as The Black Eyed Peas surprised her with a dance tribute from Chicago, was precious. I think I enjoyed seeing Kim laughing at Oprah’s surprised expressions, more than seeing Oprah celebrating the kickoff start of her 24th season.
“I’ve got a feeling that today’s gonna be a good day… so just dance.”
When you witness scenes like this, reminds you how much spirit the American people have. An eclectic tapestry of colorful people who love life, and love fun. Thank you Kim, Oprah and thank you Chicago.

ELLEN DEGENERES EXITS AMERICAN IDOL
Ellen DeGeneres has exited the American Idol reality TV Show. Wow, that was the briefest butch prime time minute in reality TV judges history. What’s going on? I suppose that with Oprah leaving Chicago and finishing The Oprah Show, it’s of more value to Ellen to eye up Oprah’s vacant ‘Empathy TV’ daytime talk show branding spot and shine that badge up instead, rather than giving critique on Idol as one voice of five people for Fox.
Makes sense. Says Ellen via ABC: “A couple months ago, I let (TV network) Fox and the ‘American Idol’ producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me,” DeGeneres said in a statement.
“It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings,” she added.
I’ve said this in the past, that if Ellen, Simon Cowell and Oprah unite to combine their mugs in TV Shows and Talent Shows on Oprah’s OWN TV cabel channel, here in California, they will truly rule the world of TV ratings.
Anyway, back to A.I, MTV is reporting that American Idol, have asked Jennifer Lopez if they can use her name in the interim, to be their fly girl replacement judge in the interim. The rumor mill is spinning that J-Lo is the new Ellen, who was very briefly the new Paula Abdul.
I can’t keep up with that lot! Swift exits for lady judges on Idol these days. Wishing Ellen all the best, having nights with popcorn in front of the telly at home in her slipppers again instead. She’s a joy.

GOOGLE MAKES SLAVES OF AUTHORS WORDS, OPRAH’S SUMMER READING LIST AND SOMEONE KNOWS MY NAME
According to Oprah‘s 26 Books of Summer reading list, compiled by Kristy Davis, Sara Nelson, Susan Casey, Gayle King and Ms. Winfrey, Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill of Canada, is a read you’ll enjoy this Summer.
Says, O, The Oprah Magazine: Originally published as The Book of Negroes in Canada, 2007, Someone Who Knows My Name lists the names of every slave who sailed to Nova Scotia under British Protection.
The Magazine spotlights Aminata Diallo, a girl who was stolen from West Africa, aged 11, who eventually became a sought after “baby catcher” (midwife) in Manhattan and South Carolina. This book is described as “a gritty, at times too detailed tale–page after page describing abuse and cruelty, a reader might almost become injured to Aminata’s suffering. This is a story of pride and perseverance.”
Riveting stuff. And in terms of I.P theft and google furthering this robbing of authors trend in the world, author Lawrence Hill is getting totally jacked by google, because his whole book sits online in every word, via the dis’courtesy’ of Google Books right here.

Mike Nichols is a great. He was honored last night. Remember a while back when America’s Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts wanted the Obamas and Oprah to stop by for dinner with her friends Tom Hanks and Rita H?
Well, Julia kept her end of the bargain (sorta) representing with Oprah at Mike’s honorary dinner. A year later Jules and Oprah got the chance to make best friend’s Whoopi over dinner. Good ideas, take time to achieve amongst busy people. Loving this pic. Hot. :)

BEYONCE SINGS FOR MEXICAN ROYALTY IN THE WHITE HOUSE TONIGHT
Because Lady Gaga was unavailable today (she’s filming her “hot like Mexico” music video here in LA, reflecting back the same message from the City of Angels instead) the beautiful Beyonce Knowles was seen heading to The White House to sing this evening, Wednesday 19th May 2010.
Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon and first lady Margarita Zavala are guests of honor for the Obamas. Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela and the United States Marine Band are singing too.
Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek, (aka The Robin Hood Cannes latina and gorgeous, red carpet diva-ettes), Oprah Winfrey and George Lopez. were also invited.
Sounds a bit like… this blog (allegedly!!!)… a bigger blast than oil rigs exploding off the Coast of Mexico’s Gulf in flames! Love it.
And what really irks me, is that inspite of some of the most exciting people in the world, being present at this prestigious dinner party tonight… that Carlos Slim Helu, the richest bloke in the world, (and Mexico’s other president who owns most of Mexico’s infrastructure and telecommunications too) couldn’t even be bothered turning up.
When you have two of America’s #1 divas of pop, warbling a lesbian Telephone pop song, and all of these power players at the table too–that must have been a little bit disappointing, not to have Carlos present.
His biz model is one that America should adapt asap to aid America’s economy quicker. Slim Helu knows a thing or ten about how to make a buck. Fixing the immigration laws could help a little, in Arizona though, to get his attention. No one likes a strained welcome. But perhaps next dinner party, the Obamas will be successful.

Oprah is doing really great press and publicity these days. It’s interesting. I think the mighty O is excited she’s moving to warm and sunny California next year, because she’s got a second wind, and is creating some really, really good entertainment again.
This report from the associated press via google, about Oprah enlisting the help of Alan Ball to tell the story of Henrietta Lacks and medical science and research towards cancer cure and prevention. Love it. And it has to be said, that HBO is one of the hottest cable channels in the biz.
IS KRISTEN STEWART PREGNANT?
Kristen Stewart, the Californian actress who is partly repsonsible for the names Bella and Isabllea becoming the most popular names in America for baby girls this year, is juggling a pregnancy rumor, while promoting Twilight Eclipse.
OK Magazine takes the trending topic of Bella as a baby name and runs with the notion that Kristen is carrying Robert Pattinson‘s love child. Edward and Cullen are two boys names very popular with American mothers this year too. To give the story credibility, Oprah‘s name is thrown into the mix too to sell tabloid magazines off shelves.
Really though, if Stewart is pregnant with anything… it is Jack Kerouac‘s amazing poetry. Go here to read.
