EMPLOYMENT MUST BE THE MAIN FOCUS OF OBAMA ADMINISTRATION FOR NEXT 2 YEARS?
This morning, after visiting Drai‘s the rooftop-hip Hollywood club of emerging gorgeous and disgruntled movers and shakers; after giving some blog blood to Maori people in New Zealand and their oft not-seen-enough awesomeness in the world to lead and entertain; after pondering the ridiculous and rather comical notion that we have ‘billionaires, or royals, or leaders or powerful politicians or celebrities’ when 1/6th of us in the world don’t even have access to clean drinking water–I then tuned in to read Ari Huffington‘s words this morning. I like her focus for 2011. So Frank. Her New York tone was resonating loud and clear here in Cali:
“This week the supposedly lame duck Congress and shellac-shocked president came together and produced a flurry of good legislation.”
“The START Treaty should have been a no-brainer (is there anyone outside of Tehran or Pyongyang in favor of more nukes?) but is nonetheless a solid national security success.”
“When the President gets back from Hawaii, he needs to make sure that he puts job creation and the plight of the nearly 27 million Americans out of work or underemployed front and center, and doesn’t get caught up in the political and financial establishment’s focus on the deficit.
Let’s not rearrange the furniture while the economic house goes up in flames.”
Very to the point.

QUALITY BUTTER: WASHINGTON’S FOREIGN AFFAIRS DIPLOMATS LIKE PHIL GOFF OF NEW ZEALAND, THEY CALL HIM “HARD-CHARGING”
[Phill Goff is pictured here with Auckland Central political candidate Jacinda Arden]
Guess what? The best cupcakes in the world are made with golden creamy, New Zealand butter.
Better Butter Movement News: Wikileaks documents reveal that America’s top foreign affairs diplomats like New Zealander Phil Goff and his brand and style of political leadership. The leaked cables handed to The Sunday Star Times reveal these views from America about Mr Goff, the leader of the Labor Party of New Zealand:
Mr Goff has military like precision when parachute jumping:
The cable talked of Phil Goff doing a parachute jump from a military plane. As the American report goes, Mr Goff logically debated for the jump over water option because it required less training. The US also liked the way he argued the amount of training down to two hours, proving he is a good time manager and negotiator–while not valuing his own sense of importance over tasks at hand.
Goff is “very focused on the job at hand,” American diplomats found via the wikileaks docs being shared with the world. “This sums up his working style in a nutshell.”
In other Kiwi-American trade deals news: Wikileaks reveals (via silobreaker) that a trading partnership between the US and New Zealand may not be as “El Dorado” lucrative or worth “billions and billions to New Zealand’s commercial sector” as some political leaders have claimed in the past in more recent New Zealand media, that may have given a perception of too high expectations– than these wikileaks US diplomatic communications reveal.

KIM KARDASHIAN IS NOT PREGNANT WITH KANYE WEST’S BABY
Sometimes, the most ridiculous rumors start between Los Angeles and NYC. The latest was Kim Kardashian is pregnant to Kanye West. ”The rumors are absolutely not true,” Kardashian told People magazine. “I’m not pregnant.”
The story was started by gossip site MediaTakeOut, which reported a “world exclusive” that Kardashian was having the rapper’s baby.
Another example of how stars get cashed in, all the time–for Media take out’s benefit, and also Kanye’s fan base too. Kim was analyzed as being bing.com’s no.1 trending celebrity of 2010.
Basically–that means that she is now a touchstone star celebrity-template. To enter the fame game in 2011–at least one thing that makes Kim Kardashian a star, must be in your star mix to cut it and break through. She’s the standard. One of them anyway. Kanye’s already started this trend, early.
Mine is: “In 2011, I will have at least one Middle Eastern friend more visible and represented as a friend on this blog.” The rumor is funny though.

TEQUILA AT STANTON SOCIAL FOR JESSICA SIMPSON AND ERIC JOHNSON
Peeps were saying country hottie Jessica Simpson was preggers, but Page Six reports that Jess was hitting the tequila with fiance Eric Johnson, Tuesday pm at Stanton Social, NYC.
She’s most probably not preggers then. Hitting the bar with an entourage of 20 and her dad, a ‘source’ reports: “They were very well-mannered and drank basil lime gimlets, pineapple 75′s, Maker’s on the rocks, margaritas and wine. They ordered a lot of food. Jessica let her guard down enough to steal a few kisses from her fiance. Jessica, Eric and the crew settled on shots of Don Julio to finish out the evening.”
Don Julio is the best. Hangover free.

SAVVY AS MICHAEL K IN THESE AMERICAN TIMES – 11.27.10
There’s a fine line between a world-knowing, ex-Sunday School raised New Yorker … and, well… just being without hope or bitter.
I choose to believe the sweetness in New York Blogger Michael K will conquer the canker worm of the past. Here’s an example of his daily work. I would never link this much on a blog, but Michael does. He’s the most wittiest blogger in New York. If his topic was politics–Michael K and Keith Obie whatez of MSNBC would be on the same Tiger Woods par on a golf course. They’re sharper than a sharpie’s ink flow.
Unfortunately neither of them are recognized as well as they should be for their wit. They are America’s national treasures for this artform–American wittiness. Gosh, it must be charity week, or American thanksgiving holiday season awards via perceptive foreigners…. BUT these two lads are consistently witty… For that, I say “on ya!:” What follows is an example of Michael K doing something with his wit and brains:

JENNIFER HUDSON SINGS WITH A GOOD HEART
Jennifer Hudson was spotted singing in NYC last night, for the Happy Hearts Fund Event.
Nice!
Anyone doing something for others in need is even more pivotal this year than any other year in US history since the 1930′s. Go J-Hud!
The Happy Hearts Fund’s mission is “to improve children’s lives through educational and sustainable programs in natural disaster areas.”
I dig. Do you? If you’ve ever heard J-Hud sing live like I was fortunate enough to here in Los Angeles, the girl seriously moves octaves and mountains with a spirit of hope when she sings. Let’s hope she does for kids of the world needing her, after this performance.

KATE MIDDLETON PROVES SHE’S A FASHION TRENDSETTER ALREADY
There must be something about wearing Princess Diana‘s blue sapphire engagement ring, because when it comes to setting fashion trends, Kate Middleton is proving to be just like her late mother-in-law.
This via Christina Amoroso of the NY Daily News: “Not only has Kate Middleton has captured the heart of Prince William, now she’s caused a fashion craze across the pond.
“The gorgeous would-be queen, already a noted style icon, wore a long-sleeved sapphire blue dress when she and the future King of England announced their pending nuptials on Tuesday. And now Vogue UK reports that the stunning number by Issa London, which retails at £385 (about $617) sold out at high-end British department store Harvey Nichols within 24 hours.
“Since the announcement of the royal engagement we have been inundated with requests regarding Issa,” buying director Averyl Oates told the magazine. “The dress worn by Kate sold out almost immediately. Issa is one of our best selling brands and the versatility of the pieces mean that they can be dressed down for the day and dressed up for special occasions.”"
Although Issa London is getting a lot of credit for a simple yet well cut dress for Kate’s tall lean figure, the fashion accessory that helped sell this dress too was pretty kicker! Diamonds and jewelry are back in vogue.
ELISABETTA CANALIS ATTENDS RIPPLE OF HOPE AWARDS
Elisabetta Canalis attended the Ripple of Hope event last night in The Big Apple. Apparently George Clooney went with her. George is always carrying folders of paperwork these days. His new look.
The Ripple of Hope’s manifesto is: ““Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
The Awards recognize those who mentor others with good actions and is an event organized by The Mentor Network.

KEY TYPOGRAPHY DATA AND A FIRE IN SHANGHAI TAKES NEW YORK TIMES CENTER-STAGE NEWS COVERAGE – 11.16.10

In cultural news Patricia Cohen questions how with new technology, let’s stop chasing “isms” and use data to get meaning from the ‘liberal arts’ instead. Data that can be counted is a worthy point in noting trends. Having a blog, I do this daily, so I like Patricia’s idea in her story: “Digital Keys for Unlocking The Humanities Riches.”
Share’s Patricia: “A history of the humanities in the 20th century could be chronicled in “isms” — formalism, Freudianism, structuralism, postcolonialism — grand intellectual cathedrals from which assorted interpretations of literature, politics and culture spread.
“The next big idea in language, history and the arts? Data.
Members of a new generation of digitally savvy humanists argue it is time to stop looking for inspiration in the next political or philosophical “ism” and start exploring how technology is changing our understanding of the liberal arts. This latest frontier is about method, they say, using powerful technologies and vast stores of digitized materials that previous humanities scholars did not have.
These researchers are digitally mapping Civil War battlefields to understand what role topography played in victory.”
Alright Patricia –put the key words “New Zealand,” “New Zealand honeymoon vacations” “Kiwi’s in 3D” in that typography trend data for New Yorkers in the future, because these three things are hotting up, on the typography map today. A good article from Ms Cohen. I like, that’s why I’m sharing today.

CHRISTMAS DIVORCEE CHEER FOR THE HOMELESSNESS SITUATION WITH ARIANA HUFFINGTON

I was looking today at Arianna Huffington of that blog in New York City that is quite extensive in showcasing other peoples brainy thoughts all year round. It’s really entertaining this year observing how Ari has transformed herself into the Christmas Divorcee Santa’s little helper this year of The Big Apple. She just keeps on getting better as a blogger in that uptight Ari way. I like her Christmas a lot this year. Christmas time is a time where many people get divorced. Who knows why? Stress I guess. However I like Ari’s focus, that if you focus on families entirely worse off than your own, it just might help a lot to appreciate the family that you do have. Quite wise really.
Here’s her message, shared for the City of Los Angeles too this Christmas Eve:
Dear People,
“Merry Christmas. I’m back from Chile (Feliz Navidad) and Brazil (Feliz Natal), and celebrating with my daughters and my ex (see HuffPost Divorce) in New York. This year’s It’s A Wonderful Life Award goes to Gregory Schauer, the unemployed man who demonstrated the true Christmas spirit by taking in a homeless woman and her three children for the holidays. Remarkably, when we contacted Greg to tell him about all the people who had written in offering to help him, he told us: “Please let them know that the best thing they can do is pass it on so to speak. Instead of sending me anything, call a shelter, sponsor a family for Christmas, give to the food pantries, spread the spirit of Christmas to as many people as they can.” So, in Greg’s honor, please go to The Goods, our online store featuring goods and services for those in need, and make a purchase in Greg’s name* (My choice was to help pay the rent of a family in need).
*Before adding your selection to your cart, click the box that indicates you want your donation to be a gift, put down Greg Schauer as the recipient, and gregsholidaywish@gmail.com as the recipient’s email. We’ll make sure he gets your message.
