THE SOUNDS OF RECESSION PROOF ROMANCE – TWILIGHT NEW MOON ORIGINAL MOVIE SOUNDTRACK…
…. is looking good. Our friends from The Wall Street Journal note that emo, indie and alternative rockers, including The Killers, Thom Yorke, OK Go, Bon Iver, Editors,Grizzly Bear and Death Cab for a Cutie and Muse, as well as Band of Skulls, Hurricane Bells and Sea Wolf all appear on the hit film franchise’s sound track.
Having twilights hot trinity of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner being pimped out on the album’s cover like, cements the most incredible movie marketing story of 2009 from Ms Stephenie Meyer’s imagination. The music of her success story… just keeps on rolling on. Hollywood loves that woman’s brains.
In a global recession her imagination and strength, restored Native American actors to mainstream cinema and created a whole new generation of Hollywood legends. Meyer’s imaginative stories and marketing strategies are recession proof and young people all over the world love her! We have romance in recession. What a beautiful sweet escape!
Meyer’s taste selection of artists with a grungy indie, edgy sound, is so recession friendly. No gloss or manufactured pop sounds that no one can relate to in their smarmy irrelevance that misread the times… just grit and edge. Nice.
She’s picked a #1 album on billboards top 200 album charts! This is the car make-out album of all teen dates for 2010. Teen bone head lads will jump to get this album. Wait and see.
ONE REPUBLIC RELEASE WAKING UP ALBUM
I love the album’s title and also the artwork.
Timely. The quintet are a great little band, check it on Myspace.com/OneRepublic
I LOVE THE KINGS OF LEON
Living on Kings Rd in West Hollywood means that I’m kinda a bit partial to the Kings of Leon. They sing my street’s anthems, with hit after hit they compose and perform. They Rawk!
Here’s the Kings of Leon singing their smash hit, the #2 most downloaded hit of all time, Use Somebody. It’s so Hollywood without even trying to be. Love it.
They’re still a bit precious, so you can’t watch the original music video on this blog. Enjoy the above version though. :)
NEW MILEY CYRUS MUSIC: WHEN I LOOK AT YOU
Horiwood’s favorite teen superstar, Miley Cyrus has released a new single.
Here’s Miley’s When I Look At You
And it’s really good! A pretty song.
The music video owes it’s success, to a bunch of piano moving guys, a team of stylists adding hair extensions on Miley’s head, and of course, Australia for providing Liam Helmsworth for the video.
But seriously, that piano had to be moved everywhere, all over Savannah Georgia for this shoot. Nice one guys!
MADONNA MAKES DANCE MUSIC & CONCERT TOUR HISTORY
Madonna is a history maker in music sales. According to the Sep 26th 2009 issue of Billboard, Celebration has become Madonna’s 40th #1 single on the Hot Dance Club Play Chart.
From Rolling Stone Magazine, Madonna has also made history. Her Sticky & Sweet Tour which wrapped in Israel with her children, Lourdes dancing and playing the piano and her son Rocco DJ-ing on stage also made history. Madonna is the only solo act to amass more than $400 million on tour over a single year in 85 concert dates.
Says Madonna: “Sometimes going onstage is the easiest thing in the world.
At a show in Warsaw however, on August 15th, Madonna’s fans interrupted her performance singing “Happy Birthday.” Of that spontaneous moment, Madonna says: “I got a little bit choked up there. It was a touching moment.” Madonna turned 51.
Madonna’s full list of #1 Dance Hits follows, below:
JAY-Z, RIHANNA, KANYE WEST @ MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 9-11
Check out the hottest hit at the minute. Jay-Z was joined by special guests Rihanna and Kanye West to perform Jay-Z’s big hit, Run This Town at Jay’s 9-11 benefit concert. Madison Square Garden, went wild, Friday night.

RIHANNA’S BOLD FASHION STATEMENT TO LADY GAGA – FASHION NIGHT OUT NYC
Rihanna is sick of Lady Gaga getting all of her fashion magazine covers and popstar attention.
So Princess Riri, dressed herself up in Grace Jones gear and fashion accessories and made her statement at Fashion Night Out: A Global Celebration of Fashion in NYC, Thursday night, that Lady Gaga is not the only pop princess with #1 hits who can be fashion fierce.
Being a global fashion event, Rihanna is also giving a shout out, to First Lady Michelle Obama, who shares the December cover of Glamour Magazine’s Christmas issue, 2009. Rihanna had just finished her photo shoot, Michelle Obama is next, so she says to Mrs Obama “it’s your turn” now. She’s also shouting out to Gaga. It’s a political pop thing.
I am sure every pop star, actress, woman in entertainment, thanks Rihanna for popping Lady Gaga‘s ego by doing her far out and freaky Alien Princess rendition of Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard.
Wearing the black hood, like Grace Jones (and Whitney), Rihanna takes back the hood that Lady Gaga once used on her Poker Face album cover, to make Gaga look ‘mysterious.’
Rihanna also wears even more mysterious looking glasses than Lady Gaga ever has to send the shivers down Stefani Germanotta’s spine, that yes Rihanna has better fashion designers and stylists giving her the best fashion shizzle first.
Rihanna’s jewelry (bracelets and earrings) take pieces of Lady Gaga’s disco stick and accessorize the pop princess from Barbados with a fashion edge that pushes the boundaries.
Finally, to make her point really clear, Rihanna has a message glued in sequins to her clutch purse. The message says: “Such a [freakin] Lady. Now Your Turn.”
The message is, look out Lady Gaga, you’ve only done one album and I’m so sick of your over exposure! Rihanna, of course has had #1 hits off two albums. Her second album, Good Girl Gone Bad, had more than double the #1 hits that Lady Gaga’s The Fame album has had. So Rihanna makes a good fashion statement on the matter.
You just know that after his healthcare speech, Thursday, that Barack Obama called Jay Z after seeing Lady Gaga’s Vogue Homme Japan photo shoot weirdness and the new President said:
“Jay, can you send Rihanna out there and shut that crazy Gaga girl down. She’s making America look bad! She’s getting a bit too weird.”
I kid. It’s actually a flattering tribute from Rihanna to Lady Gaga, to give the new kid, a shout out at all. Love it! Rihanna is a builder not someone who knocks another down. She knows what its like to be knocked down, and this Barbadian girl is a very generous and warm soul.
In 2007 Rihanna won big at the World Music Awards for World’s Best-Selling Pop Female Artist and Female Entertainer of the Year, as well as the 2008 American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. Rihanna has attained five Hot 100 number one singles, becoming the first of the only two female artists with the most number ones attained within the 2000s decade. She also serves as one of Barbados’ honorary cultural ambassadors as an ambassador of youth and culture.
As someone who knows what achievement is in pop, she’s actually congratulating Lady Gaga here, and saying welcome to the club for all of your achievements in pop music this year. A nice nod from Rihanna to the new girl.

MUSIC: SWAY BY BIC RUNGA FOR AMERICAN PIE
Old School music warms the heart. Espeically Kiwi hits that sound pretty good in Hollywood. Here’s Kiwi artist Bic Runga whose half hori (like me) and half Malaysian from New Zealand. Bics mom was a cabaret singer in Malaysia who fell for a Maori lad. How sweet.
She’s singing Sway from the movie soundtrack of American Pie.
Looking and sounding great here in Hollywood, still Bic.

IT’S A PARTY IN THE USA – MILEY’S RAP REMIX IS HOT!!!
I have to give creds to Miley Cyrus for her ability to lift America’s young peoples spirits up and get them celebrating life and who they are. Miley Cyrus; It’s A Party In the USA – new rap remix is the hottest song on LA radios right now.
Im kinda loving Miley Cyrus’ new song, Party in the USA today. thanks Smilers. You’re not bad for 16! Wow, go girl! In her song, Miley nails the craziness of the Hollywood life as well as what living in LA is all about.
It’s about being so stressed in LA heat on the road in drive time traffic, and then realizing that life is what you make it, so you pump up the volume on your car radio and you raise your hands and get your dance on, while being stuck on an LA freeway. All stress disappears. What’s funny, is that everyone else is doing the same thing. You know then, that you are an Angelino!

THE SKINNNY ON APPLE iPOD
Can Steve Jobs look any skinnier? He is a walking metaphor that the US economy needs a good feeding.
Seriously, Steve Jobs needs to buy a restaurant and make a restaurant table his office table, where he needs to work on it everyday and be fed meals every two hours. Jobs appeared in San Francisco at Apples Conference recently.
What did Steve Jobs have to say? Price reductions are promised on iPod Touch. Apple’s 8GB model is now priced at $199, the 32GB model at $299. A 64 GB model will be $399.
New Games including Madden NFL 2010 have been added to the games platform. Apple hopes to offer more in the way of music artists graphics and info on the artists to give Apple users an ‘album cover’ virtual experience. Apples also has over 30,000 ring tomes at $1.29 a pop.
It’s clear that pop music and gaming are recession proof. People want to be entertained.
Information supplied by David Colker of The LA Times. Thanks David. You deserve lunch with Steve Jobs at some point.

NEW LEONA LEWIS: HAPPY
British songstress Leona Lewis has written a comeback hit with One Republic’s Ryan Tedder and Evan Bogart.
It’s a great comeback tune. This girl is like Celine Dion and Mariah Carey fused together. Happy continues Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Love power balad tradition that she started with her debut album.
Happy is bound to go to #1. The lyrics show courage. Like, you still have to try, even though the world threatens to throw you over the edge and break you down. Still live your dream. You just might find your wings and fly in that one moment. Love this song. Nice one Leona Lewis! Good on ya girl!
Happy Lyrics by Leona Lewis follow:
SUSAN BOYLE IS #1 OVER WHITNEY & THE BEATLES
Scottish singer, Susan Boyle announced that she’s releasing her debut album, I Dreamed A Dream on November 24th. Already, presales of Boyle’s album have superseded Whitney Houston’s I Look To You comeback album, and the digitally remastered, Bealtle’s classic, Abbey Road.
Boyle currently sits at #1 on Amazon.Com’s Best-Sellers List.
Congratulations to both Susan Boyle and her manager Simon Cowell. What an achievement from SuBo. Amazing.
Clive Davis must be cussing on the phone to his buddy Simon Cowell in jest. Davis is Whitney’s longtime record producer. But together Clive and Simon both co-produce, British singer, Leona Lewis. So they are friendly rivals of the music world as well as partners too on some projects.
A nice effort from Susan Boyle. Diva indeed!
THE BEATLES BRAND UPS ITS GAME
Entertainment Weekly features John Lennon and Paul McCartney of The Beatles this week. The Beatles brand is having quite a surge with the release of: The Beatles: Rock Band, rare photographs of the group and a reissue of all Beatles albums.
Sir Paul McCartney is working hard to secure a nice retirement fund. You can never have enough money, as he shows. The Beatles have always produced great music. Will you buy their albums reissues to own pieces of music history? September 9th is the big launch day of Beatles product.
Of course Apple is salivating at what this will do for music sales in iTunes.
MADONNA PUTS LOUDRES TO WORK
Lourdes Leon, Madonna’s daughter, shows that she has her momma’s performance gene. In Tel Aviv Madonna allowed Lourdes to get to work in rehearsals and show the world her talent in Madonna’s next round of concerts.
Lourdes is featured dancing in Madonna’s hit, Give It To Me, and playing piano too. I love Madonna’s take on Celebration. For the Material Girl, Celebration is finally beginning to mean, Celebrate with family and special friends. Nice!
But back to Lordes, America’s next Miley Cyrus has been officially launched and is on the way! It’s awesome when kids learn their parents craft. Gifts and talents are often passed down in families across generations. That’s also so Italian! Love it.
KATY PERRY LIVE IN CONCERT LA. TALENTED BUT MORE REALITY NEEDED
Singer, Katy Perry was in concert at the Paladium in Los Angeles tonight. After observing the long cues of avid concert goers, that stretched far around the block on Sunset Blvd down to El Centro, who all waited in 100 degree heat; inside the venue, the crowd was 2000 strong.
Sound problems, plagued the talented Katy Perry in her opening song. For 45 seconds she had no sound on her mic. However, once she got started there was no denying the talent that Perry possesses. She’s more than a singer, she’s also a talented songwriter and a musician too. Combined Katy Perry is on track to be a strong artist of the future. At the moment, she lacks connection in concert.
The 8 years living and working hard in LA without any recognition, were best summed up in the song Lost, an acoustic performance that was her best performance of the night, along with the song Mannequin. You just get a sense, that Perry still is not comfortable with the LA life, after 8 years.
What let Katy Perry down, was her falsetto voice, while talking in between songs (she was role playing a 12 year-old Dorothy, from The Wizard of Oz). That annoying lack of reality (it was too over-performed) was coupled with blow up strawberries, a blow up cat that appeared for one song at the end of the concert, and other tacky props, like pink garden flamingos on the minimalist, low budget set of the concert’s stage. Capitol records, don’t value a good artist enough, so the cheap overall tackyness combined with Katy Perry’s lack of reality, seemed to remove her outstanding talent and the power of her songs, away from the audience’s reach. Most of her songs, she performed looking straight ahead over the audience’s heads, again, failing to connect with her concert goers.
As a vocalist, she is exquisite, her dance and performance movement on stage is excellent and her songs are well-crafted. The biggest surprise of all, is that Perry has a great flair for drama. She would make an excellent Hollywood actress and if she wasn’t such a good singer-songwriter, you get the sense that Perry should be a leading lady in Hollywood films.
Overall, I enjoyed the concert a lot, and if you’re reading this after Waking Up in Vegas, right now, just know that you missed a good concert, regardless of the problems I’ve outlined above. Katy Perry goes into hiatus soon to record her second album. Let’s hope touring has given her the new material she needs, to provide an experience that is more real than fake for her fans. Perry is currently #14 in the billboard top 100 singles charts. Katy Perry made headlines this week by tweeting about her late friend, Adam Goldstein (DJ AM). Perry had tweeted, one line: “rest in peace friend.5:12 PM Aug 28th from UberTwitter
Thanks Katy Perry. Love you. RP. Lyrics to lost follow. (more…)
KID CUDI’S MAKE HER SAY
is hot! Featuring Lady Gaga, Kanye West & Common, this is what fusion music is all about. Tres clever! Nice one Kid Cudi.
KATY PERRY IS PERFORMING LIVE IN LA SOON
Have you got your tickets yet? Here’s Katy Perry performing at London’s V festival. I’m so going to see her live in concert in LA! Woooooooooot!
SLIIMY’S WAKE UP FAILS TO IMPRESS
No matter how hard I try to appreciate new artist, Sliimy’s music, I just can’t get past the fact that Sliimy looks like Lady Gaga doing a very bad drag impression of Nick Jonas. It’s very off-putting.
Nice stop-motion animation though. The music video direction deserves a gold medal for making up for Sliimy’s below average music. Compare Sliimy to the reggae band Katchafire below. Um…. yeah! The Katchafire bros are way better.
THE HORIWOOD TOP 10 – SUN 23.09
America was shocked over the weekend when Reality TV Love went wrong. Reality TV star Ryan Alexander Jenkins murdered his TV co-star and real life girlfriend, Jasmine Flores and stuffed her body in a suitcase, that was discovered in a Southern Californian dumpster. He later took his own life after he crossed the border into Canada. Shocking, sad, unecessary! RIP. Our thoughts go out to all of their family and friends and this time. Poor Jasmine Flores.
