Madonnais pictured launching her first Hard Candy Gym in Mexico City. The Material Girl says:
“If any of you have seen my shows, you know that I don’t skimp on them and the same is true for the gym. We spend what it takes to make a globally first-class gym. Our plan is to use Mexico as a place to fine-tune our brand and then expand it to other countries and, in the long term, develop a global brand that includes the United States.
Membership is $860 down (how else is Madonna going to make the Forbes Top celebs list next year?) and then in third month it is $40 per week to be a gym bunny a la Madonna.
[If Madonna wanted to stand for Governor of California and be in the running after Gerry Brown has had his turn, she is certainly doing all the right moves to get California voters attention here. Arnold Scwharzenneger spent the first part of his life in the gym, the next part of his life on movie sets--before he took office as Governator. I see where this going! Good for her. *jokes*]
Namaste. Special thanks to all of you who read Horiwood.Com in Hollywood. May your holiday season be a good one and 2011 be prosperous and abundantly blessed for you all. Most of all, may your smiles increase and your spirits rise.

Alright –this is the sort of stuff that gets beauty Queens blown up, not to mention makes America and Mexico look kinda dumb.
On the other hand, seeing the humor in all situations (including a potentially heavy situation) also takes the sting out of it. That’s a key part of freedom too.
Here’s two beauty Queens of America attempting politics and geography this weekend.
The first is former Miss Universe Alicia Machado who Agencia Mexico, reports wrote the following on Twitter:
“Tonight I want you to join me in a prayer, about the attacks happening between the Chinas, so that the situation doesn’t worsen.”
Alrighty then now that she’s on the map and tabloid radars of 1.3 billion Chinese via Mexico, moving on to a so called politician of America, Sarah Palin.
Palin was featured last night on MSNBC News, quoted while yapping on Glen Beck’s radio show and sharing her foreign affairs knowledge outside of Alaska’s esteemed borders, saying as reported too by Hyper Vocal:
“This speaks to a bigger picture here that certainly scares me in terms of our national security policy. But obviously we’ve gotta stand with our North Korean allies.”
Alright– although she got it totally wrong when America sides with South Korea at all times at this minute, at least Sarah sided with the Korea that actually has the nuclear bomb within their borders.
In a weird, moose-hunting, cold climated, unschooled, coquettish bumpkin kinda way?, Palin could be viewed as a little bit smart. Isn’t so much of politics about doing just what she did? So perhaps Palin was only half as dumb as she sometimes can be, with that answer.
Nobody is perfect and Palin does have a $1 million an episode reality TV series appearance fee being juggled currently with a no.1 best selling book, so she must not be totally stupid. All I can say is: thank goodness for Hilary Clinton as US Secretary of State! And apologies to all Koreans – North & South for the varietals of dinosaurs named Ignoramus that walk among us. Hopefully, ignoramus is a title that’s becoming “less US” day by day. I write all this making a note to myself to buy a map of the world tomorrow and learn me something also. :)
She’s one of the most high profile Aussies the world knows, loves and trusts and who doubles as a resilient breast cancer survivor too. She also sings as a songbird for the U.K who also claim her as their own honorary national treasure.
Yes it’s true. Kylie Minoguehas been added to the Macey’s Thanksgiving Day Parade celebrations in the US this Christmas! That’s top billing here in America. In marketing speak it means, a Kylie album will most probably be in your Christmas stocking this year. Now that’s a fun Christmas for America.
Here’s Ms. Minogue, with a message of “not getting boring” while performing her single Get Outta My Way in Mexico. Her warning shot is, if you look like a zombie and get boring, the world leaves you behind. Or, in pop diva speak, the hint is to have some balance when going Gaga and “little monster” crazy. Can’t argue with that, this girl’s been around for over two decades with number 1 pop hits. She sells on average 3 million albums a year since she began in music. She knows a thing or ten about longevity in show biz and she’s still standing.
Love it. I’ve always had a soft spot for girls who grew up eating good BBQ tucker that their dads cooked them. They’re good down-to-earth girls. In regards to Kylie’s pop music career, she has always sung live -no auto-tune or lip syncing for this Aussie girl. Having seen her at the Hollywood bowl here in Cali, I appreciate that about her. No pretense. What she gives is who she is.

Jerry Brown has returned to the ring, to be Governor Elect of California.
He’s 72, fighting fit – and holds press conferences at Oakland.
He’s California Governor King 2010′s. What got Jerry elected? The strength of the brown people vote of California, namely Latino.
Let’s see what grey powered wisdom he creates within California to lift up America and maintain the festive contribution Latina and Latino, Hispanic-Americans have been giving California for hundreds of years, before all of us aliens got here to rock it out with Star Trek films and the like.
Exciting stuff. Wisdom at the forefront is a gift of grey powered citizens world wide. The vote of the majority, is a gift of brown people worldwide –lest we ever forget. Obviously, brown and grey of any color can work successfully together. ‘Brown’ cultures of the world, respect their elderly, in a way that many ‘societies’ in ‘the modern’ world, have forgotten.
I’m excited about Jerry Brown here in Cali. Depth with style. Not a bad combo. His spirit reminds me of a California version of a “Winston Churchill solid oakwood kind of bloke.” I’m going with that feeling and vibe. Solid like oak wood.
Needless to say, Salsa chips are up in California with this news. Today though, for Oakwood nations – I’m going with an image of brown jellybeans in a jar – in honor of a clear perspective, Brown and people like him can offer US all.
In the Maori language as customary and appropriate from New Zealand to a new King – “Mihi atu ki a koe ou tatou Rangatira o Te Kawangatanga Pai a “Hori-Rakau.” Kia kaha. Ka Tu to Wairua Kitea Pai. Karawhiua.”
Go Fellah.
Here’s Jerry Brown in pictures from the LA Times –after a win, that Obama described as being a “shellacking.” At the moment: “The governor-elect has a ‘very sobering’ meeting in Washington today, with the director of finance and vows to begin work on a spending plan, which must be submitted within days of his taking office in January.” It’s all about a good excel spread sheet really, aint it!

Closing Thought: The people of this man on a broom (pictured cleaning in Oakland after Jerry Brown's victory speech), were responsible for saving California (possibly America's too) future. Go Latino and Latina of the USA and THE WORLD! Cool people. Caliente politics are sweeping America, right now! Clean sweep shellackings, even! This one going in Obama's favor. :)

Beautiful.
key words: travel + ancestral (paths) + mountains + wood + surfing + winds + navigation from the light, heat, warmth of the sun.
A message to any leader–to generate warmth of spirit in their territories. Monarchs live in such warm cultural environments.

I got totally owned by Batman this year, for Halloween, who wanted to say “Hola to the Maori people of New Zealand.”
Adds “The Batman Named Jose” playing an American super hero: “I’m a big fan of Rena Owenin the film Once Were Warriors. Awesome film. Made us all cry. You guys are the hot sh*t.”
Alrighty then, go Rena!!! Inspiring Hispanic-Americans like few Kiwi’s can. Demonstrating staying power, that in Maori films with Maori actors a market still exists and is strong, years after good ‘Maori’ Kiwi films have been made. That’s the power of one Maori woman actor giving an outstanding performance.
Like Niki Caro proves when speaking Maori, working with iwi (Maori tribes) and adapting and directing a filmic story by a great storyteller, Ta Witi Ihimaera you don’t have to be Maori to serve Maori stories with a stellar Oscar-nominated Maori cast to an audience the world loves.
I don’t know why, but when I hear about Reina’s news in Hollywood and listen to Jose talk with enthusiasm about Maori film, I know that we have a Hobbit industry, a 3D Hollywood ancillary sister-city industry for Hollywood’s biggest earning films of all time and a Maori film industry beating like a strong pulse for the world. It’s humbling and yet invigorating to feel at the same time, while I stand on Hollywood concrete–in The City of Angels (The city of messengers with a message) that is known far and wide as being The Entertainment Capitol of The World. Go Maori and Polynesian filmmakers, I reckon!
Batman agrees.
In celebration of Neil Hamilton‘s legacy in Hollywood (the dude who played Commisioner Gordon in the Batman TV series of the 1960′s), this one’s also going out to H-Town - Hamilton, New Zealand with H-Town brothers Katchafire‘s new reggae song, showcasing the wonders of animated hori pop culture moments.
Wherever these lads play around the world, clouds of Marijuana rise above their audiences. Why is that? They have the Bob Marley star factor as reggae rocks stars down pat. I imagine that Katchafire will be mega busy in California this year. Shikes if Proposition 19 goes through at the ballot, they could live in California for half of every year, and just play major Hollywood events. Now how can we get a Katcahfire song onto a movie soundtrack. I can’t believe no one in New Zealand or Hollywood has done that yet, with Prop 19 having had millions thrown in to campaign for it. Heck, the Facebook movie guys (funding Prop 19′s campaign largely) would have had Katchafire in their film’s soundtrack lineup, had they heard of these lads.
Like, they’d be perfect for something like The Hangover 2for example, if you watch one’s American politics on the Bill Maher Show.
If you don’t like reggae, all good, here’s my choice of cinema today too of a piece of entertainment worth watching, depicting the beauty of Maori-Kiwi humor, with the Oscar-nominated short film, Two Cars, One Night–a Kiwi classic short. Beneath the skin color, it’s actually a small town, Country Music values story, really.
It’s very clear, Maori have gifts as filmmakers that heal human rights rifts in the world. That’s what our presence in the film making world is capable of. It’s what we do with Spirit. Every Maori knows we do. No point pretending anymore we don’t have the gifts our ancestors gave us, to get this job done in the world, to make it a more fair place. Hopefully in 3D too soon. We (and our New Zealand and Hollywood film texts) are box office stars too. Are you ready for US? Hope so.
[Thanks Jose & to a star that burns bright in the minds of Hispanic-America and Mexico (people living in two nations who share a gulf containing oil) --for a legacy that's still memorable on celluloid for everyone. Thanks Rena for giving a performance that lingers in hearts and minds and burns so bright, like a star does, still today in our consciousness.]
[This post for Aunty Robin Cheung of Kawerau country, Bay of Plenty --now of West Auckland, who says she prays for me every day. Thanks Aunty Robin for your love and thoughtfulness. "You fly!" May I do your prayers justice in this Maori-Kiwi life I was given to serve others, for our lives to be good and "to matter" to "people that matter who need us to matter." Thank you].

“Please don’t tell me I won’t make it. That’s not going to do me any good. The promise is made to those who venture, San Francisco lift your load. I know I can be forgiven, with the broken heart of Mexico”–Brandon Flowers, Magdalena lyrics.
Musicrooms is reporting today that singer-songwriter, Brandon Flowers admits to growing up liking the same music as his mom.
Brandon’s mom used to listen to Brit punk bands and know all their ballads lyricsso she was kind of cool.
Go to MR to read the cute story. Already iTunes Ping, is changing the music distribution landscape with music stories like this. And to listen to Flowers new song, Magdalena, go here to Some Kind of Awesome for a right treat.
He’s early Bob Dylan and an early Bruce Springsteen fusion. As a poetic lyricist he’s hot.
Cliff Curtis, Maori Hollywood actor, is pictured here with Courage to Love, the new novel by Robert Ellis, about peace in Israel, Palestine and the Middle East. Cliff has also just clocked in at #1 at the worldwide box office in his role as Firelord Orzai for M. Night Shyamalan‘s The Last Airbender film in 3D.
Variety reports, “Paramount’s 3D film “The Last Airbender,” which expanded to Mexico and China over the Aug. 27-29 weekend, claimed the top spot at foreign wickets. Pic’s weekend take of $20.3 million was enough to knock Warner Bros.’ “Inception” from the chart-topping position it had occupied for four straight weeks.
Screening in 51 territories at 5,843 locations, “Airbender’s” top take marks the second straight week of sizable grosses due to gusty expansions. In Mexico, the film debuted in the No. 1 spot with $4 million at 812.”
Congratulations to Paramount. To buy the book brother Cliff holds in his “happy hori” hands. Go here to read more about it. And, let’s go China, Mexico and Boston!

Frieda Kahlo‘s painting Weeping Coconuts 1951is currently on display at LACMAin The City of Angels as many in the world both weep [literally] and pray over oil spilling in the Mexican gulf and the strife surrounding the people of Gaza in the Middle East. Frida’s painting speaks today almost sixty years after the disabled artiste, crippled by pain, took to her easel to give us this image.
Today in Hollywood this one is going out, especially to two great leaders John Wooden and Merata Mita–at polar opposite ends of the world today–who have both graduated from this life and the legacies they left behind in sport and filmmaking. What great lights they were and still are. :)

Because Lady Gaga was unavailable today (she’s filming her “hot like Mexico” music video here in LA, reflecting back the same message from the City of Angels instead) the beautiful Beyonce Knowleswas seen heading to The White House to sing this evening, Wednesday 19th May 2010.
Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon and first lady Margarita Zavala are guests of honor for the Obamas. Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela and the United StatesMarine Band are singing too.
Sounds a bit like… this blog (allegedly!!!)… a bigger blast than oil rigs exploding off the Coast of Mexico’s Gulf in flames! Love it.
And what really irks me, is that inspite of some of the most exciting people in the world, being present at this prestigious dinner party tonight… that Carlos Slim Helu, the richest bloke in the world, (and Mexico’s other president who owns most of Mexico’s infrastructure and telecommunications too) couldn’t even be bothered turning up.
When you have two of America’s #1 divas of pop, warbling a lesbian Telephone pop song, and all of these power players at the table too–that must have been a little bit disappointing, not to have Carlos present.
His biz model is one that America should adapt asap to aid America’s economy quicker. Slim Helu knows a thing or ten about how to make a buck. Fixing the immigration laws could help a little, in Arizona though, to get his attention. No one likes a strained welcome. But perhaps next dinner party, the Obamas will be successful.
That was America today, pretty much.

Latin Chemistry. Jennifer Lopez& Eduardo Verastegui are perhaps the hottest Latin pairing in Hollywood history. And… New York girl Stacey Orrico asks the question, There’s Gotta Be More To Life than what you can see or buy in a consumer culture–as your top ten celebrity and entertainment news choices look like this on Cinco de Mayo Day 2010, here in Hollywood. Woot!
Dear Frida Kalo [Census 2010] in the spirit of Dawnraid Entertainment by Horiwood and Pascale Petit
Dear Frida Kahlo, your people’s names in America
must be filled out and d-listed
in the 2010 census.
And Frida says:
I have a woman’s face
but I’m a little stag,
because I had the balls
to come this far into the forest,
to where the trees are broken.
The nine points of my antlers
have battled
with the nine arrows in my hide
Mexico has a lot to teach us, here in America. This year Mexico, produced the #1 richest man in the world, Carlos Slim Helu. His fortune is made in telephones and mobile telephony networks mainly. People loved to talk to the ones they love, as life is about sharing the most meaningful moments, with the ones you love, so Helu is making bank, everytime someone yaps on a telephone.
Reports Yahoo News via Forbes magazine’s news feed: “Riding surging prices of his various telecom holdings, including giant mobile outfit America Movil (AMX), Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim Helu has beaten out Americans Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the wealthiest person on earth and nab the top spot on the 2010 Forbes list of the World’s Billionaires.
“Slim’s fortune has swelled to an estimated $53.5 billion, up $18.5 billion in 12 months. Shares of America Movil, of which Slim owns a $23 billion stake, were up 35% in a year.”
Bill Gates is only .5 of a billion behind Helu for the #1 spot.

Jessica Alba, like Megan Fox is a master at channeling her inner Angelina Jolie poses and stares for le camera. Alba does it again for her latest Revlon ‘Coloburst’ lippie campaign. Not bad!
Commercial glamour aside; Alba tells Siempre Magazinethat she has recently hired a Spanish tutor from Mexico, to teach her daughter Honor Marie Warren and herself the Spanish language of her Mexican heritage. The actress says she wants to help her daughter avoid the criticism she endured when she was eighteen and her non-fluency in Spanish made headlines. “God knows that I wish I was raised bilingual,” Alba says. “But it wasn’t to be.”
In all of the fakery of Hollywood, this gorgeous latina is seen to be keeping it real for herself and her family. Nice one J.A!
Simplicity, clean lines in art… is always so beautiful and yet so powerful too. Both Mexico and Raphael Davidson rock today! Sometimes good art conceptually resides in … the power of a bold outline.

Image of Carla Bruni Sarkozy, the First Lady of France, brought to you by le Clafloutis Restaurant, 8630 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069. A restaurant on the Sunset Strip where stars dine.
Sergei Eisenstein was one of the greatest film editors, auteurs and director/ producers known to the art and science of film editing. Eisenstein could do it all.
At The University of Auckland, New Zealand where I went to film school, we all studied this man’s brain and way of thinking. Although his films were shot and edited in black and white, Hollywood’s film & TV editing owes much to Eisenstein’s clever innovation in editing the visual language of the moving image. In particular, the blockbuster action, big budget film owes its action sequence editing techniques to Sergei. The city of LA is built on other nations’ brilliance. It’s our history here.
Eisenstein’s ability under heavy censorship, made him a revolutionary of the people. He worked out a way to juxtapose images of military force of might by State that were contrasted against the softer face of human life.
Always, what was more important was the people, the masses, the majority and a sense of fairness that mediated between greed of politicians and the bourgeoise and the people who needed to be fed. I love the filmmaking aesthetic of this man as a film editor of revolutionary social and political change.
Above is Eisentein’s Que Viva Mexico documentary, 1932. With his spirit and life’s work contained on celluloid, he is still da man today! Viva forever.
