In Time’s latest Person of The Year Awards? Mr. Zuckerberg is listed as no.1 most influential person of 2010. He is also described as being the leader of ‘the third largest nation on earth’ or, with 600 million (one tenth) of the world’s population in his self-made kingdom.

If you’re a Facebook community peep, this would technically make Mark your ‘founding father’ or in modern day speak “your daddy.”

He’s everywhere. With a sister with a name Randi, growing up, how could you not do something awesome to put people together? *jokes*

A generous gesture from a dude, who really is the real life boy wizard with a Facebook wand. Magic is in peoples simple every day words, they are allowed to share with the world and others they care about.

TEN THINGS ON MARK ZUCKERBERG BEING NAMED TIME MAGAZINE’S PERSON OF THE YEAR

Mark Zuckerberg has just been named Time Magazine‘s person of the year, so my Twitter feed tells me, via Time’s twitter feed, via a link to Time’s Stumble Upon account. Boy is Time really working all social media distribution info-sharing services to do a Mark Zuckerberg butter-up job and get in on the Facebook audience bases good books. I kid. Rick Stengel is a good editor for Time, so how can I knock this man.

Here’s ten reason’s based on an essay from Time Magazine’s managing editor Mr. Stengel on why Zuckerberg is tops:

1. Zuckerberg is at the center of connection shifts with people: “The way we connect with one another and with the institutions in our lives is evolving.” Zuckerberg is on it.

2. Many people are wary of politicians due to too many mistakes, that fried the majority. Politicians are seen as greedy sharks, raping the golden goose more often than not these days: “There is an erosion of trust in authority, a decentralizing of power and at the same time, perhaps, a greater faith in one another.” Zuckerberg caught this wave as leaders didn’t catch the trend.

3. Identity and the way identity is shaped and shapes culture has shifted with an acceptance that there is less privacy: “Our sense of identity is more variable, while our sense of privacy is expanding. What was once considered intimate is now shared among millions with a keystroke,” Stengel writes. Zuckerberg made it possible for people to express aspects of personality easier and with an allusion of a certain degree of control. It is an allusion, although the average Facebook user feels ‘safe’ on Facebook’s website, often more safe than what a job situation or politicians are offering them, away from their computers and Facebook accounts. Weird. How much information Facebook sells to governments without people knowing, makes Facebook even more interesting. Zuckerberg at this juncture though is seen as safe by Facebook members.

4. People see him as “The Architect”: “He is both a product of his generation and an architect of it.”–He is leader who gave more to shape his generation than to be shaped by others in it. Or in other words, he went wide and appealed to the little person, to become a cultural hero and leader of the masses he facilitates.

RIHANNA STUDIES, THE ART OF CELEBRITY AS SOCIOLOGY AND A GQ BRITANNIA MAGAZINE COVER, DECEMBER 2010

I saw that The University of Carolina is offering a Major in Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame. Pop music as a vehicle of leadership in nationhood’s direction is what kids want to study. Really a University should be offering science and advanced mathematics or physics papers in the US in an effort to close the gap on Education being an equipping tool towards being viable competitors in the future direction of a global economy.

If sociology is a lure to get kids into college to see what it’s all about, all good–perhaps they should be offering a 2 hour lecture in Rihanna Studies instead though. Kids would learn just as much, although Rihanna is not technically an American citizen. Although shaping American culture so much as an artist, rather humorously, her visa status is still that of an alien. She is the USA’s Alien Queen of the 2010′s.

In 2008, Rihanna was ranked in the top four on google New Zealand trends for the year. Her live performances in Auckland The Supercity were well appreciated from fans. A then relatively unknown American leader (to the-wider-world), Barack Obama, also made the top ten in this innovative and perceptive trend-spotting small nation. At this time, New Zealand’s current Prime Minister, was not yet ranked in the top ten (Sir Edmund Hillary was instead, at no. 7) yet Rihanna and Mr Obama were on New Zealand’s cultural radar of people they like.

As a comparison, Australia ranked Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole Smith in their top ten and Mr Obama was not yet on the radar in Australia’s mindsets at all that same year in a significant way. Rihanna however (was ranked no.9 in Australia that year as a trend) denoting that she is a key figure and entertainer to the South Pacific and Asia Pacific territories. She was the only person of color in Australia’s top ten that year to ‘cross-over’ as an accepted trend, whereas New Zealand had 3 people of color trend that same year. It is fair to say, that as a star, leader and a cultural-architect artist of a modern world–that Rihanna is always a forerunner of the world’s elite leaders. This is her destiny as a person. Let’s look at what she’s gifted the American people, so far.

What would GQ be, without its Rihanna magazine covers in the US or Britannia? You need at least one Rihanna moment as your cover girl each year to be a successful men’s magazine. This girl is both pretty, tough and resilient in making a comeback when beaten down. She can also make a fashion accessory super hot–that all stars emulate and fashion designers incorporate into their styles of design. She’s the edge of trendsetting when she feels like playing the diva role.

She also gave America a powerful image of someone who recovered from post traumatic stress disorder of something unexpected that can hit a life in America, requiring a major rebuilding effort. Her Chris Brown domestic violence saga of the past catapulted Rihanna into superstar status. Resilience was added to her star exotic brand in that tragic moment of callous American mistreatment by young Chris towards a foreigner living and working in Los Angeles. That media moment was bloody awful. Thankfully Chris Brown has moved on from the incident too now, maturing from it also.

There has never been anyone who lived in Hollywood Hills, quite like Rihanna who has contributed to American culture in difficult years, offering hope or distraction or attitude or just good fun. She’s quite unique. Via Barbados and the Commonwealth, along with Beyonce she is the All American Girl inspirer of the last decade. Next year, I wonder if actor/ singer/ fashion sequer and stylist, Kat Graham, a newbie who is currently sporting top hats of British gentry of the UK, will get to land on GQ too?

In the meantime, here’s the hardworking Riri, amusing Britain with those looks. In the last 11 months, she’s just not stopped working. Respec. In fact Rihanna’s music accomplishments are second to none in America–she’s pop royalty and the Commonwealth’s black queen of pop. In 2008 when Rihanna performed live for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, she wore earrings reflecting the shape of the late Princess Diana‘s engagement ring, the same ring now being worn by Kate Middleton. With her symbology that constitutes pop star monarchy’s iconography, that millions of people worldwide follow–as symbols of empire that they think define them, Rihanna is always smart. Equally subtle as confrontation, a rare mix. Rihanna is a little naughty, she’s the only music artist to give the Queen a diva snear at the end of her performance, before she curtsied–an expression the Queen would never allow herself to do in public, even if she wanted to. The moment from Rihanna is cute.

Hitfix reports that Riri (who this blog is sorta named after too), is the no.1 charting artist of the millennium. The music website writes: “Only Girl In the World jumps to No. 1 this week, giving Rihanna her second single from Loud to hit the top spot. Two weeks ago, What’s My Name featuring Drake was at No. 1. Loud debuts at No. 3 this week on the Billboard 200.

ANGELINA JOLIE CO-CREATES HER OWN KIDS BOOKS

The latest from Bluewater Productions Comics, stable of cartoonizing famous people with audiences is this edition of Angelina Jolie in comic book form.

Now Angelina Jolie’s nannies can read Hollywood’s leading box office lady’s children relevant kids books while Jolie is at work filming her next movie. Jolie joins authors and film franchise visionary mothers, J.K Rowling and Stephenie Meyer as a Bluewater Productions comic profile.

It has to be said that Bluewater are looking after their Asia cross-over markets better than most companies, with Angie as their latest comic book profile. When you think about it, cartoons of Asians, of Jews, etc have been used in ugly war efforts of the past to demean human beings. To have stars put their hands up to be novel as cartoon ‘stereotypes’ is a good thing in light of this history. I’m all for it. All power to these leading lady lights, I reckon as cartoon books. The weird thing is, these cartoon characters as ‘super heroes’ of sorts, are– “real.”

Lil Kim responds to Nicki Minaj‘s comments that she’s a sore loser. Says Kim:

KIM KARDASHIAN ENTERS THE CREDIT CARD GAME

True fact: Kim Kardashian is a lot smarter than many A-Listed film actors. A studio doesn’t control her. She’s no one’s puppet and is in charge of her own brand. As we know, she’s a reality TV star. She’s just released her own credit card –namely for her kid fans. She’s on fire. Already she’s under fire though, by the haters who aren’t moguls like Kim is.

Here’s that sentiment today: Celent analyst Zilvinas Bareisis tells American Banker: “I am baffled — this card doesn’t seem to make sense at all, it appears to be targeted at teenagers, yet with ridiculous fees. If there is such a thing as a luxury prepaid market, then it’s not going to be the teens.”

IS JAMES FRANCO OVER-RATED?

James Franco has had a lot of attention lately. Quite frankly I’m not too sure why.

James sucked face with Sean Penn in the Harvey Milk story, to help Sean Penn win his second Oscar. He has good hair. He attends college to develop his brain off a movie set.

He has good hair. Did I mention he has good hair? Other than that, James is pretty much like any other American actor. He turns up for a camera. He acts in films. Appears on entertainment shows, like any other actor.

James also has had a one page ad taken out for him by one of the studios he’s repping in the 127 Hours movie as an actor in LA Weekly.

The ad was printed in full color. All of America likes James Franco. I’m still trying to figure out why. But he does have good hair. In fact, he has a great smile to match his good hair. Here’s that ad. And here’s some random dude in same said paper, advertising LA Weekly’s “war coupons-esque” marketing scheme. Too funny! Random unknown LA guy, did well to get a half page ad, meaning that this coupons scheme has a lot riding on it for LA Weekly’s owners.

STEVE BURKE’S DEAR STAKE HOLDERS LETTER REVEALS MANAGEMENT CHANGES FOR NBC, COMCAST, UNIVERSAL PICTURES

Ryan Seacrest is selling his Hollywood Hills home. When you’re a star in Hollywood, you don’t really look to a real estate agent to sell your home.

HOW TO MARKET MUSIC EVENTS – 11.14.10

Music is always a big draw. Look at a U2 concert to get my vibe on that one. Anyway, LA Weekly stepped up to the plate last weekend to make some real money with LA 101 at Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday, November 7th.

Post recession music and music events are even a bigger draw. Music lifts peoples spirits, through depression, recession, idiocy economists mistakes that the people have to brave and endure sweetly. Music is the cure.

In an age of social media, everyone is isolated on their computers, but music events draw everyone into one place. A safe place, of fun. No political agenda. Just fun and good music. For these reasons music events are kinda like the new church of the masses.

I couldn’t help but notice Music Events Marketing being done well this month in the City of Angels. Here’s 7 pages of advertisements taken out in LA Weekly. Local newspapers who are really events companies are smart, worthy of a rewind playout, I think for their clever.

It also explains why LA Weekly’ is so uptight about accepting news story pitches when you’re a publicist for anything that isn’t LA dining, Bar related or Music Industry related. Like real news. Lol! I mean in New Zealand, a newspaper is just that, a NEWS paper. Not so in the US. Like LA Weekly shows here, they are newsprint ‘shepherds’ leading lambs en masse to the ‘slaughter’ (maybe slaughter was too harsh…  let’s try, the “happy musical tunes”) of their pied piper rent-a-turn-table wallet.

Oh, I included the sponsor’s page too, for any budding bands wanting to break into America or American bands needing support marketing themselves across the 50 gorgeous States of the USA. These sponsors have the mullah for music.

If you’re a band, ask your manager to follow the money trail. Or if you’re an ambitious band, get on the phone too and help your manager to help you, promote your music.  :)

JOHNNY DEPP AND ANGELINA JOLIE – TWO HOLLYWOOD KIDS ON A BILLBOARD

While getting coffee this morning, I noticed Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie‘s new billboard for The Tourist. It’s in a pretty spot, where traffic banks up at lights and where the sky is always blue.

Their new movie incites travel–creates a strong image of the American abroad learning new things. A minority in a new culture – whose also not afraid to explore new terrain. Think Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman to get a sense of this Hollywood internationale vibe. In their new film The Tourist: “The story revolves around Frank, an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path.”

That’s the latest from these two leading box office heavyweight kids of Hollywood town. I call them ‘billboard kids’ because, if you’re an actor on a billboard, you’re forever cast as a child in Hollywood.

Perhaps only living overseas, gives you the chance to grow up and live an adult life. Even if for a while, you are perpetually cast as a Tourist with an accent. As long as you’re on a billboard anywhere in the World but especially Hollywood, the town wants you to play the role of a child for it. Your job? To say: notice me, love me, play with me, go and see my movie for my high school (studio) I represent. Follow me.

A billboard is actually a physical manifestation of “twitter culture,” “facebook culture” even of a blog too with a following. A sign of our times in which we live, where people want their life to count, mean something, not get lost in an age of social media where –”visibility equates to credibility.” Period.

However, a Hollywood billboard is serious star status material. Money has been spent on the real estate. Billboard real estate is big biz in Hollywood, especially on The Sunset Strip of West Hollywood.

A-List actors promoting a movie, are like politicians campaigning for the popular vote of elections. When on a billboard, they just never appear to grow up. If you realize this, that there’s no escaping this rhetoric of any campaign that involves a media format (like a Hollywood billboard) — than the featured actors or political actors who never take themselves too seriously in this game of promotion, and who just produce images of fun (or beauty and strength as Angelina is here)–are the best at the game. Fun sells.

People need it. Always do fun bold pictures, I reckon. Can’t beat a smile in these times. Unless you’re Jolie, a pout provides variety to all of the smilers. She does it the best.

Johnny and Angelina are Hollywood’s two leading stars who provide star presence in the hood anywhere they appear. They know how to exist both within Hollywood and then go offshore and live their lives while dipping back in to Tinsel Town to make their money. They give Hollywood its current meaning as ‘A City of Stars’ even if they’re not here most of the year.

They’re ghosts, magicians in this regard, using billboard culture or the press to appear to be present. They’re the top of the pops at the promotions and publicity game. Big bucks.

I included trees with this billboard, because green is really the star of us all too. You know it. Enjoy the view in case this billboard never makes it to your town or your neighborhood in the world. You’ll always have trees beside you, as a reminder to think green to be a star too. :)

CHARLIE ROSE, HEKIA PARATA, HILARY CLINTON, CHER AND CHRISTINA ARGUILERA

ONE FOR FUN: It’s unofficial but official, New Zealand wants to abduct Hillary Clinton, and not give her back to America. She looks so good and happy in New Zealand as an American alien who does not look at all alienated. Hills looks like she’s been in NZ forever and loves it. She’s like a Queen gliding across beautiful and serene Lake Wakatipu. Again, what a fine AmBassador of the American people.

Can’t Kiwis in Wellywood keep Hillary that way, all the time? Smiling. With her dignified Camelot-esque cheekbones  all upturned like smiley hobbit chops, smitten with Kiwi glee from laughing all day on Middle Earth royal rugby soil of 3D magic Adventure Land. Yes! Let the Kiwis do that for Hills and America!

Brilliant suggestions aside, Here’s Mrs Clinton, with (Heck Yeah!) Hekia Parata. Don’t forget, to vote Hekia for Mana Electorate if you live in Mana for a fun politician. Look at Parata smile. How could you not vote her in! Beaming.

3D JACKSON ESTATE – IS THE MICHAEL JACKSON INSPIRED THRILLER FILM TO BE MADE IN 3D?

“In a world full of despair, you must still dare to believe”–imagination: Michael Jackson, King of Pop.

Michael Jackson, earned $275 million posthumously for his estate. His star template for entertainment distribution and spin off merch – is still America’s star template all emulate.

GK Films are negotiating to develop a feature film around MJ’s Thriller.

Real Effects Entertainment are shopping the idea to studios. Kenny Ortega is attached to direct, and The Hangover scribe Jeremy Garelick to write the screenplay. That’s funny publicity already.

GK are driving the film pitch but Fox 2000, Mandate/Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are bidding too. The film budget is expected to make $50 million.

The song’s folklore, involving Vincent Price and the town he grew up in–is the basis of the film’s narrative’s plot line.

Thriller songwriter Rod Temperton is up in this mix too. Meanwhile, Cirque du Soleil is in talks to do two live shows based on Jackson’s music.

Montecito partners Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock are developing a film that focuses on MJ’s earlier years as The King of Pop. Peter Schlessel -head of GK films is leading producing efforts on this film idea.

While at Sony Pictures Entertainment, Schlessel made the deal for This Is It!,  a big earner for SPE, and it is likely that GK Films will distribute Thriller through its SPE output deal. UTA reps Garelick and Reel Effects, while Paradigm reps Ortega.

My thoughts are – if MJ was using 3D film technology in his This is It! Tour visual arts armory — shouldn’t this film be shot in 3D, like the future of Bollywood film?

Distribution: If Hollywood wants a piece of India’s entertainment than this is a good idea. No other artist has been downloaded more times than MJ in India’s entertainment history of music sales. 24% of all songs in India downloaded are MJ songs. Really Summit Entertainment should bid big, as they are the leading ‘werewolf’/ wolf pack kids in Hollywood.

We live in an age of the 3D Jackson Estate still furthering entertainment models and distributon strategies for American Ent. I dig. Before Jackson died he was all about Thinking Green to save the earth’s enviroment – and he was doing this in 3D.

JOHN KEY SUBSTANTIATES WELLYWOOD AS HOBBITSVILLE 3D COUNTRY AND A SUPPORTIVE TWIN CITY OF HOLLYWOOD’S 3D CINEMA MASTERY AND GREEN FILM LOCATIONS

Prime Minister John Key (L) is no stranger at dealing with key leaders in key areas and markets of the world.

Quote of the Year: “It was commercial reality. We did the business.”–John Key on bending Hobbit Law, to Warner Brothers recognition, of Sir Peter Jackson and Sir Richard Taylor‘s skills and preference to film The Hobbit 3D film in New Zealand.

New Zealand’s number one man, John Key shines in Hollywood today, with the announcement that New Zealand will restructure law, and contribute monetarily to help facilitate Sir Peter Jackson directed, The Hobbit films 3D filming and production in Middle Earth. This sends a clear message to Bollywood, Hollywood, Europe and Asia, that New Zealand is 3D film production fit for the 2010′s and beyond. Middle Earth is also the home of James Cameron‘s Avatar‘s 3D effects, filming and creation.

Via New York Times, Mr Key says: “I’m delighted we have achieved this result. Making the two movies here will not only safeguard work for thousands of New Zealanders, but will also allow us to follow the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy in once again promoting New Zealand on the world stage,” Mr. Key said. “The industrial issues that have arisen in the past several weeks have highlighted a significant set of concerns for the way in which the international film industry operates here in New Zealand. We will be moving to ensure that New Zealand law in this area is settled to give film producers like Warner Brothers the confidence they need to produce their movies in New Zealand.

To structure the right deal to keep The Hobbit in New Zealand, new legislation is being introduced Thursday to clarify the difference between an employee and a contractor. The change in law would affect only the film industry.

Aotearoa/ New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Mr. Key said that the green paradise nation would offset $10 million of Warner’s marketing costs as the government agreed to a joint venture with the studio.

Mr Key also threw in an additional tax rebate for big budget films made in the country, making production companies now eligible for up to $7.5 million extra per picture–based on box office sales. New Zealand currently offers a 15 % rebate on money spent on major movies being produced within this paradise nation’s shores.

The UK Guardian reports that, had not Warner Bros and the New Zealand government come to an agreement, “Economists had said the loss of the production could cost the country’s film industry as much as $1.5bn and damage it in the long term.” Mr Keys also said via The Guardian, “”Making the movies here will not only safeguard work for thousands of New Zealanders.”" A much welcomed break for New Zealand’s economy struggling with one of the highest E.E.C debts, currently. The news was much welcomed.

Although it is not know if any Maori and Polynesian actors have been cast in the film in key roles to date, the Guardian reports: “The Office star Martin Freeman set to portray the title character, Bilbo Baggins – a homely Hobbit who in Tolkien’s tale is bamboozled into joining a thrilling adventure by a wizard named Gandalf. Richard Armitage, of BBC TV series Spooks, will play the role of Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the dwarves.”

Good stuff. What a day for Hobbit lovers of Hobbitsville entertainment. And not a bad couple of days work either from Prime Minister Keys in his role of Minister of Tourism too. That deserves a beer or three in Hobbit fashion. Nice teamwork for the Prime Minister, Warner Bros, and our two Sirs who create Hobbits and a film industry working for and in tandem while reflecting back to Hollywood, from the other side of the world in New Zealand. Teamwork and mastery of a win-win relationship. Super heroes are being made in New Zealand in cinema texts and 3D cinema –for the world. Let’s go China and 3D action Chinese films in NZ.
