Los Angeles–The City of Angels lost the world’s oldest known person when Gertrude Baines quietly passed away aged 107 on September 11th, 2009.
Gertrude Baines once told her physician Dr Charles Witt about her secret of longevity. “She told me that she owes her longevity to the Lord, that she never did drink, she never did smoke and she never did fool around,” Witt said at a party marking her 115th birthday.
Her vices were crispy bacon, fried chicken and watching the Jerry Springer Show each day.
Baines was born in Shellman, Ga., on April 6, 1894. At the time of her birth, Grover Cleveland was in the White House. Television was still more than a 50 years from being in US homes. It was all about the early stages of radio then.
Gertrude Baines was 4 years old when the Spanish-American War happened and middle age when the US fought in World War II in 1941.
Baines loved life. ”I’m glad I’m here. I don’t care if I live a hundred more,” she said with a hearty laugh after casting her vote for Barack Obama for president. “I enjoy nothing but eating and sleeping.”
Her vote for Obama, she added, had helped fulfill a lifelong dream of seeing a black man elected president.
“We all the same, only our skin is dark and theirs is white,” said Baines, who was black.
Word! Farewell Gertrude Baines, Jerry Springer will be very sad his oldest viewer isn’t watching his show every day and so will Dr Witt, by the sounds of things too.

Hollywood is so surreal. You don’t have enough gas in your tank to get home from your 100% commission job in a recession after putting in an 8 hour day and 40 hours for the week. You’re in shock as your eftpost card declines at the gas pump. Every single AP loaded to your bank account must have gone out. But at least you have cable, that American staple of entertainment, at home. You just don’t know how you’re going to get home to watch any of it, unless you push your car along Hollywood Blvd.
Then you go inside to the cashier and your old lottery ticket at the bottom of your wallet, you fish out. It’s crumpled but you straighten it out and hand it over to the Pakistani cashier with fingers crossed and eyes closed. The sound the cashier’s til makes as it opens let’s you know that it is a minor winner at the gas station in that moment. Believe it or not, this is how many young people in Hollywood are living each day, right now. Oh, and people in their 50s and 60s too. George Bush’s governance and Dick Chaney’s ill advice, has totally cost these people their American dream.
Not to worry! Such is the story of Hollywood. But like the lottery ticket today, the city always holds luck, even when you least expect it. You just need to believe that things will be okay, and they do get better. But what a surreal experience!

It’s simply not true, that the Obama girls have the healthiest school lunches in America. They do not have Miss Elliette’s best heirloom tomatoes in their school lunches yet
Without having access to Miss Elliette’s finest tomatoes Malia Obama and Sasha Obama are under nourished American girls too, just like everyone else’s kids in America.

Recently a girlfriend, Dale, came to LA from New Zealand to say hi after a 7 day vacation in Las Vegas.
The Wilshire is where Julia Roberts and Richard Gere filmed the hit movie, Pretty Woman, which kick started Roberts’ career into A-List super stardom.
I was blessed by Dale’s shining visit. She’s as sharp as Chelsea Handler of the Chelsea Lately show. So much so, that I wish Dale would stand for politics in New Zealand. She’s the Julia Roberts of New Zealand politics. A true star.
Having seen a lot of politicians serve the New Zealand people and watching the news each night from Washington too here in the US, I think Dale has one of the best political minds that New Zealand has to offer. Dale…. please do stand as a politician. The country needs you.
Anyway, here’s Dale on vacation, doing a booty hip bump with ‘Barack Obama,’ and paying tribute from New Zealand to Michael Jackson’s star on Hollywood Boulevard, for the contributions in music and entertainment that MJ gave to all New Zealanders, back in the day.
Maoris loved MJ’s music and still do. He did a lot for better race relations of all Maori in New Zealand on the airwaves and as a music artist. It was nice to see Dale at his star in Hollywood.

Hi people. Meet Miss E. She’s 86 and has possibly the finest heirloom tomatoes collection in the world. In her youth she blossomed with artistic genius as a fashion designer (on a budget) and was America’s version of France’s Coco Chanel.
Coco of course, has long since faded and passed on (in fact, Emmy awards are about to be given out in her postumous honor in LA), but this American butterfly of fashion design, who soared and conquered the great heights of fashion sales in America nationwide, still walks in life’s garden among us in this great city of Los Angeles.
Miss Elliette is an angel of LA. Our living Emmy of all Angelinos who are blessed to know and love her.
She is so underrated for her contributions to America and having being honored with the presence of her company and perpetual spirit of hope at her dinner table on many occasions, I just adore her. She’s an American eagle of the finest order if ever I have met one or have shared the company of one in America to date.
I think, I would have to say, that Miss Elliette is my most favorite American celebrity. But you can’t have favorites because her entire family all rank pretty ‘up there’ too. They are all nice people. Perhaps proof, that the tomato never falls too far from the vine.
One day, the men of LA stopped to honor this woman’s genius when she was given the keys to the city of LA for her contributions to the fashion industry, to business in America and of course; her inspiring business development for the City of LA in the fashion world. Her dresses are masterpieces of heirloom chiffon, and they still sell on e-bay today.
As you can see, Miss E is still blossoming with her creative hands and extraordinary vision, more stronger than ever. Her life stories are as fascinating and entertaining as an Oscars Awards show! But, for today, let’s just talk about her amazing tomatoes!!!

Dita Von Tesse did a show in LA last night at The Avalon. Because Beyonce is America’s black burlesque dancer, with vocals and flesh colored leotards, baby sister Solange Knowles decided to rock out and give Dita some support.
If you were on Twitter last night, you will know that Solange took her two favorite girlfriends with her, for a mom’s night off. You will also know that Solange was hysterical as she gave Dita the thumbs up all throughout Ms Dita Von Tesse’s performance with tweets like “Vagina Power!”
Then Ms Solange, decided to buy her girls shots after the Dita show and get them really plastered. The verdict, both Dita Von Tesse and Solange Knowles are big trouble in LA! Wireimage , Splash
Perhaps because Dita Von Tesse is such a fierce performer, with a smaller paycheck than most A-List stars, Solange was feeling her fierceness. So many Hollywood stars went to see Dita who is America’s premiere burlesque performer, even though Ms Christina Arguilera is hoping to go the way of Dita in her next movie Burlesque.
