GOLDEN GIRL KATE WINSLET ON THE SET OF MILDRED PIERCE
Titanic/ Heavenly Creatures star and double Golden Globe Awards/ Oscars winner, Kate Winslet –was hard at work today on the set of Mildred Pierce in New York City.
As a film noir classic text, I’ve always loved Mildred Pierce. It depicts the rise of women in business, during the WWII era–as women left the domestic spaces of their homes to open businesses and become earners for the American economy to support the war effort.
Being a film noir text, women had to be punished at the end of the film, for exerting such gender-breaking strengths–which was a bit sad–demonstrating the patriarchal restrictions of the day, that women had to battle through in order to excel in business ventures. The original, is a real study of the times back then.
In the 2010 version of Mildred Pierce, who else better to play Mildred than Kate? Nice casting. Mildred Pierce remains an inspiring story, that women, mothers –can achieve anything when they set their mind to it.

Wow! What a line up. Oscar winner Penélope Cruz, Oscar winner Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts & Oscar winner Kate Winslet grace the cover of the May 2010 issue of Vogue Paris.
Which makes one ask this question. Why has Julianne Moore never won an Oscar? That’s just wrong.
A beaut cover and Meryl looks fantastic. :)

KATE WINSLET AND SAM MENDES HAVE SPLIT
Now that her Oscars reign is over, Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes have announced to the world via a lawyer that they have gone their separate ways. Says their legal eagle:
“Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.”
Well… as Hollywood is all about Oscar winning filmmakers, ruling at the moment with spouses and ex-spouses of cinema and the arts (James Cameron, Suzi Amis, Kathryn Bigelow, Linda Hamilton‘s camp), these two will probably still collaborate in Hollywood films, awards shows and #1 box office strategies together in the future.
Divorce is always sad. Wishing them both the best futures ever with their children and their art. It’s always hard, when one person in a relationship gets an enormous amount of success in their career, while the other partner appears to stagnate. Which is what they call “the curse of the Oscar” in Hollywood couples love lives. Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts and Benjamin Bratman etc, etc, etc.

Miley Cyrus recently tweeted to the world from a Bahamas Beach, “don’t call me f*t.” At Cannes Film Festival, Penelope Cruz was saying exactly the same thing.

Her talented co-star, Marion Cotillard of France, promoted the film with Harvey Weinstein of Miramax while Cruz recovered in her hotel room. Poor baby!
Nine looks amazing and also stars Cruz’s fellow oscar peers: Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Fergie, Daniel Day-Lewis, Sophia Loren and also Kate Hudson. Let’s hope Penelope Cruz is feeling better… but don’t call her f*t either. She’s trying to keep her food down today!

KATIE HOLMES HEARTS JULIA ROBERTS
Who does Katie Holmes look up to in Hollywood? She wants you to know that she’s intrigued by women who explore the ‘complexity’ of life.
“Growing up, I always had my dreams set on being an actor, so I looked up to Julia Roberts, Audrey Hepburn. I also look up to Kate Winslet and Renée [Zellweger] and Cate Blanchett…and Diane Keaton—she’s a genius. I think it’s very inspiring to see these women attack such complex roles.”
MILITARY KATE WINSLET WON AN OSCAR

Kate Winslet in Military costume in The Reader gets her Oscar
for playing the role of Hanna Schmidt, a woman on trial for the role that history and her country had cast her as a Nazi guard during a world war.
Kate portrayed Hanna, a women being tried as a pawn in a wider war. The role empathetically questioned her actions as a military German girl, for right or for wrong, caught up in national service. For this military casting for Winslet, she won her long-awaited Oscar.
The Academy awarded the most military performance by a woman of the Oscars nominees nominated. Question… Is women being cast at war, the new theme to consider in pop culture and Entertainment?
It appears to be that way. Read posts below.
KATE WINSLET SAYS ITS TIME TO LISTEN TO YOUR KIDS
Oscar Winner, Kate Winslet, appears on the cover of Time Magazine this week. Nice. Kate’s Time has come indeed.

Kate who appeared on Oprah’s show recently, said that her eight year-old daughter Mia had plenty to say about her fashion choice in Yves St Laurent. And it wasn’t all that: Kate tells the story. “I said, ‘Hi, Mia, did you jump up and down?’ [Mia] says: ‘Yes, I did, Mum, I did. I need to talk to you about the dress — it was gray.’ She was absolutely mortified I wore a gray dress.” And there you have it, kids have their feelings too.
KATE WINSLET WINS THE OSCAR
What a moment, for all women in film. Congrats Kate. It’s been a long journey since when you started filming your first film in New Zealand. Wow, Oscar Gold! & so humble with it too.
REPRESENTING THE UK – CAN KATE WINSLET REPEAT HER GOLDEN GLOBE WIN FOR BEST ACTRESS?
Kate Winslet ponders if she can beat Meryl Streep out for best actress tonight on Hollywood’s red carpet. The down to earth English actress, who first started her feature film career in New Zealand with Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures looks a Hollywood dream tonight at Oscars big night. Go Kate!

Kate Winslet is Lady Britania tonight on Oscars big night in Hollywood. Effortless style.
HILARY CLINTON ARRIVES IN CHINA
And she extends the hand of American friendship to the Chinese government. China’s population makes up one sixth of the worlds population. By the way, India’s population makes up one sixth of the worlds population. That means that, 1/3 of the world are either Chinese or Indian. So the foreign affairs equation for the USA is simple. It is:
America + its European allies + LOVE + China + India = global domination. I kid!!! But not really… yep, Samuel Spengler would be so proud of me for that. But that’s the wisest strategy forward for America into the future.
So with Hilary in China, & Slumdog Millionaire set to take home best picture for the Oscars here in Hollywood, America’s foreign affairs record is looking pretty smart, this year. Go Hilary. You should have taken Lucy Liu with you though, perhaps!!!
Oh, and for the Euorpean allies equation part, Coldplay got Grammys representing the UK/ Europe this year, so Kate Winslet’s gotta get the Oscar. Cos that’s how it works in the U S of A, and that’s how we roll. Congrats to Hil on your first major trip to China as Secretary of State. Go girl!

Hilary Clinton works it for America in China
WHAT IF … FROM KATE WINSLET
of Revoluntionary Road. Good luck tomorrow tonight Kate Winslet for the Oscars. Keep making the world think by . . . waking us up from the neck up!
HIGHLARIOUS HUFFINGTON – WHEN OSCARS MEETS POLITICS
This is Brilliant, from Ariana Huffington:

Awards Round Up 2008 - When Politics Grate Crashes The Oscars - Brills!
2008 featured the most dramatic election in memory, and some of the most compelling figures ever seen on the political stage — characters not even the best screenwriters could top.
Despite or, perhaps, because of this, this year’s politically themed movies — Frost/Nixon, Milk, W., Swing Vote — struggled at the box office. Hollywood just couldn’t match the drama being played out on the campaign trail.
So, with the Oscars coming up on Sunday, I thought it would be a good time to salute — and mashup — some of the year’s noteworthy achievements in the worlds of politics and entertainment… which, these days, aren’t always easy to tell apart.
The envelopes please…
