JOHN KEY SINGS: SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO — LONDON AND HAWAII

New Zealand’s Prime Minister appeared on The Edge radio station to warble a Christmas ditty before he jets out with family for the holiday season. Topics of conversation were: What to get Will & Kate for their wedding present next year, a niece’s wedding in London and enjoying mohitos and corn-fed beef in Hawaii where The Keys plans to vacation this year.

Go here to see the flattest rendition of this song in any Kiwi pub’s history, but hey, 200% effort for leaping in and being a sport. What a hoot. Happy Holidays New Zealand. :)

THE ELISE DOLL – PART II

This second photo of The Elise Doll is even more funnier than the first photograph of this plastic likeness of Angelina Jolie selling on eBay.

Elise means: “The name Elise comes from the French origin. In French The meaning of the name Elise is: Consecrated to God. An abbreviation of Elisabeth, derived from a French diminutive of Elizabeth.” The name is beautiful. A bit of a waste on a doll although I’m sure the name will be a popular babies name this year and next.

The doll does look like a cross between Jolie and Kate Middleton just a bit. That adds a whole new angle all of a sudden.

Man does Jolie’s camp know how to play chess with star alignments.

LIFE AND STYLE QUESTION IF KATE MIDDLETON IS A LITTLE WILD TO BE A ROYAL?

She was the darling of America last week. This week Life & Style take a layer of celebrity skin off Kate Middleton with allegations, she’s boozing.

Hello, has Life & Style ever been in an English office at lunch time, when everyone clears out to go to the pub for fish n chips?

Why is this story-line cover worthy? It must be a cultural misunderstanding thing. Crises is used as an American word thrown at the future Princess this week in check out aisles reading prime time. The cheek. :)

BARBARA WALTERS TEN MOST FASCINATING PEOPLE OF 2010

Kate Middleton and Mike The Situation Sorrentino make the cut of Barbara Walters ten most fascinating people of 2010. Here’s whose on Barb’s list, in her 18th and (she says) final year of delivering the hit show via ABC Network loved and watched by millions worldwide:

Justin Bieber

Kate

The Cast of Jersey Shore

Jennifer Lopez (American Idol TV Show judge)

Sarah Palin

Sandra Bullock

NBA star LeBron James

Betty White

Many websites have speculated who the last two guests could be today here in the US. Flavor Pill lists their own top ten, that I can’t relate to at all, except their first choice. The Week.Com speculates on who Barb’s two mystery guests should be. Of their choices, they select: Lady Gaga -quoting Jen Chaney at The Washington Post (why? she was last years news), An Obama citing Margaret Lyons pick at Entertainment Weekly (couldn’t hurt), Lindsay Lohan -quoting Bridget Daly atHollyscoop (stranger things have happened), Lt. Dan Choi relaying Maureen O’Connor at Gawker‘s pick this year (not a bad choice either).

Perhaps Tiger Woods, Kim Kardashian (single, childless and still on top at 30), Liu Xiaobo‘s wife, or Warren Buffet, The Gates & The Team at Giving Pledge.

If looking at my own blog–Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson rate high this year. Or, why not Oprah and Larry King both wrapping shows this year like Barbara is–or for a laugh why not Oprah interviewing Barbara Walters as no. 10. That would be groovy. Eminem or other music artists–there’s not one announced yet.  Or a soldier who recovered from war’s atrocities? Or a scientist perhaps. The actors of Harry Potter continue to fascinate too. They also could be a worthy choice.

Who can believe little Snooki has made Barbara Walter’s Ten Most Fascinating People show in just over a year of being in show biz? Go Snooki go!

Who do you think the final two could be?

A UK CROWN IS A VISUAL ICON APPEARING IN HOLLYWOOD

As you know, if you read this blog I live in the Russian-Jewish District called Little Russia in West Hollywood, California.

I can’t help but notice how all through West Hollywood the Crown as a symbol is appearing in store front windows. West Hollywood is known for its love of plastic Princess crowns imagery–but this Crown is distinctly a King’s crowd. It is solid and a symbol of hope and just rule. Interesting too is the fact that the crown symbols being displayed are majestically painted, like art of Leonardo da Vinci’s era or something groovy like that. They’re a study. The return of majesty is what people want in a shite economy. An interesting expression of desire.

What do I get from this shift in consciousness in West Hollywood window store front windows? Perhaps it signifies that–

Already the American people await in anticipation the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William. Their retail hopes all hinge on her and the special ring she’s wearing of an amazing woman America once loved so much.

I know that these are U.K crowns, because one of them has an inscription written in Gaelic of Scotland in glitter paint. I don’t know why, but perhaps because my Kiwi ancestors descend from Grahamstown of Scotland, the image made me shed a tear of joy. Weird.

I’ll try and get a photo of this for you at some point. America is being so warm towards the UK right now, gauging from these artistic expressions in the West Hollywood hood, a trend setting capitol of the US in terms of what’s hot and what’s not-that feeds into Hollywood’s studios’ elite and is emulated by all in the world. In terms of creative IP being used without return or reward shared back by others, West Hollywood is perhaps one of the most exploited cities in the world for IP theft–however, the city continues to lead with what they feel is more fun for the world. No other deep reason (sadly) just more fun. And what’s wrong that? A crown as a symbol of fun times ahead. I can go with that!

“Crowns are US 2011″ is the message increasingly being expressed by the American people.

Kate Middelton has just made Barbara Walters final list of The Ten Most Fascinating People of America for 2010. This image courtesy of Rocco Pop Revolution. We are on the verge of a cultural revolution where the UK and the USA forge tighter bonds and better blending of cultures.

RIHANNA STUDIES, THE ART OF CELEBRITY AS SOCIOLOGY AND A GQ BRITANNIA MAGAZINE COVER, DECEMBER 2010

I saw that The University of Carolina is offering a Major in Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame. Pop music as a vehicle of leadership in nationhood’s direction is what kids want to study. Really a University should be offering science and advanced mathematics or physics papers in the US in an effort to close the gap on Education being an equipping tool towards being viable competitors in the future direction of a global economy.

If sociology is a lure to get kids into college to see what it’s all about, all good–perhaps they should be offering a 2 hour lecture in Rihanna Studies instead though. Kids would learn just as much, although Rihanna is not technically an American citizen. Although shaping American culture so much as an artist, rather humorously, her visa status is still that of an alien. She is the USA’s Alien Queen of the 2010′s.

In 2008, Rihanna was ranked in the top four on google New Zealand trends for the year. Her live performances in Auckland The Supercity were well appreciated from fans. A then relatively unknown American leader (to the-wider-world), Barack Obama, also made the top ten in this innovative and perceptive trend-spotting small nation. At this time, New Zealand’s current Prime Minister, was not yet ranked in the top ten (Sir Edmund Hillary was instead, at no. 7) yet Rihanna and Mr Obama were on New Zealand’s cultural radar of people they like.

As a comparison, Australia ranked Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole Smith in their top ten and Mr Obama was not yet on the radar in Australia’s mindsets at all that same year in a significant way. Rihanna however (was ranked no.9 in Australia that year as a trend) denoting that she is a key figure and entertainer to the South Pacific and Asia Pacific territories. She was the only person of color in Australia’s top ten that year to ‘cross-over’ as an accepted trend, whereas New Zealand had 3 people of color trend that same year. It is fair to say, that as a star, leader and a cultural-architect artist of a modern world–that Rihanna is always a forerunner of the world’s elite leaders. This is her destiny as a person. Let’s look at what she’s gifted the American people, so far.

What would GQ be, without its Rihanna magazine covers in the US or Britannia? You need at least one Rihanna moment as your cover girl each year to be a successful men’s magazine. This girl is both pretty, tough and resilient in making a comeback when beaten down. She can also make a fashion accessory super hot–that all stars emulate and fashion designers incorporate into their styles of design. She’s the edge of trendsetting when she feels like playing the diva role.

She also gave America a powerful image of someone who recovered from post traumatic stress disorder of something unexpected that can hit a life in America, requiring a major rebuilding effort. Her Chris Brown domestic violence saga of the past catapulted Rihanna into superstar status. Resilience was added to her star exotic brand in that tragic moment of callous American mistreatment by young Chris towards a foreigner living and working in Los Angeles. That media moment was bloody awful. Thankfully Chris Brown has moved on from the incident too now, maturing from it also.

There has never been anyone who lived in Hollywood Hills, quite like Rihanna who has contributed to American culture in difficult years, offering hope or distraction or attitude or just good fun. She’s quite unique. Via Barbados and the Commonwealth, along with Beyonce she is the All American Girl inspirer of the last decade. Next year, I wonder if actor/ singer/ fashion sequer and stylist, Kat Graham, a newbie who is currently sporting top hats of British gentry of the UK, will get to land on GQ too?

In the meantime, here’s the hardworking Riri, amusing Britain with those looks. In the last 11 months, she’s just not stopped working. Respec. In fact Rihanna’s music accomplishments are second to none in America–she’s pop royalty and the Commonwealth’s black queen of pop. In 2008 when Rihanna performed live for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, she wore earrings reflecting the shape of the late Princess Diana‘s engagement ring, the same ring now being worn by Kate Middleton. With her symbology that constitutes pop star monarchy’s iconography, that millions of people worldwide follow–as symbols of empire that they think define them, Rihanna is always smart. Equally subtle as confrontation, a rare mix. Rihanna is a little naughty, she’s the only music artist to give the Queen a diva snear at the end of her performance, before she curtsied–an expression the Queen would never allow herself to do in public, even if she wanted to. The moment from Rihanna is cute.

Hitfix reports that Riri (who this blog is sorta named after too), is the no.1 charting artist of the millennium. The music website writes: “Only Girl In the World jumps to No. 1 this week, giving Rihanna her second single from Loud to hit the top spot. Two weeks ago, What’s My Name featuring Drake was at No. 1. Loud debuts at No. 3 this week on the Billboard 200.

Riri makes history. It is the first time (more…)

KATE MIDDELTON’S COMPARISONS TO PRINCESS DIANA ARE PREVALENT

It’s no secret that Princess Diana‘s star burns bright in the world long after her death. As a Hollywood blogger, I can categorically say that a blog post on Diana could still make the top ten amidst the hottest Hollywood stars in America whenever I did a post on her. In fact, Diana’s memory as a star burns bright in the minds and heart of anyone who ever heard her name.

As a proven star template that has withstood the test of time then, the late Princess’ model of celebrity is being taught to her future daughter-in-law she never met, Kate Middleton by Buckingham Palace.

This report from PopCrunch says: “Kate Middleton will be taught about royal correspondence, public speaking, how to behave at banquets, and how to avoid the grisly fate that befell the beloved woman who would have been her mother-in-law. Palace insiders tell Us Weekly that Middleton has been “given royal assistance like no other girl has ever been given before entering the family.” In fact, the princess-to-be, 28, has been receiving instruction since 2007 to open her eyes to what marrying the future King of England will involve.”

I think like any successful leader, it involves just being yourself. What most excites anyone about Kate Middleton is her creative potential to put her own spin on her position, her fame and charitable expression of this in the world for others as a future Queen of The Commonwealth–a role Princess Diana as bright and brilliant as she was, never was given the chance to fulfill in the world. Perhaps Kate can redeem that as a future monarch.

In a sense it’s rather ironic that the Royal Family of Britain’s most relevant ‘family jewel,’ is really the star template slipper left behind by Princess Diana–for a new Princess to fill. A cute fairy tale story in the making, that’s a true story.

As the hope of Diana’s remaining celebrity in the world –is to be transferred on the future wife of Diana’s own son– this appears to be fair. As long as Kate Middleton maintains the liberty and freedom that Diana gifted the royal family with her own life and freedom of spirit and its expression in the world.

With the many expectations on Kate, like Diana it’s when Kate potentially has her own children, that she will discover a world of unique people, that is actually about her. She’s a new face in an established system–breathe deep honey and be yourself, is my advice. Courage. :)

KATE MIDDLETON PROVES SHE’S A FASHION TRENDSETTER ALREADY

There must be something about wearing Princess Diana‘s blue sapphire engagement ring, because when it comes to setting fashion trends, Kate Middleton is proving to be just like her late mother-in-law.

This via Christina Amoroso of the NY Daily News: “Not only has Kate Middleton has captured the heart of Prince William, now she’s caused a fashion craze across the pond.

“The gorgeous would-be queen, already a noted style icon, wore a long-sleeved sapphire blue dress when she and the future King of England announced their pending nuptials on Tuesday. And now Vogue UK reports that the stunning number by Issa London, which retails at £385 (about $617) sold out at high-end British department store Harvey Nichols within 24 hours.

“Since the announcement of the royal engagement we have been inundated with requests regarding Issa,” buying director Averyl Oates told the magazine. “The dress worn by Kate sold out almost immediately. Issa is one of our best selling brands and the versatility of the pieces mean that they can be dressed down for the day and dressed up for special occasions.”"

Although Issa London is getting a lot of credit for a simple yet well cut dress for Kate’s tall lean figure, the fashion accessory that helped sell this dress too was pretty kicker! Diamonds and jewelry are back in vogue.

CANADA GETS HIT BY ROMANTIC ROYAL FEVER

A cute magazine cover from Hello Canada has Kate Middleton‘s potential to bring light as a future Princess Diana for her beau, Crown Prince William Windsor smiling for all of Canada to see.

Love it! The Young Royals is the new reality TV show, the world’s about to watch. The big guns here in the USA are: Kim Kardashian, single, but still can hold her own even up against Will and Kate and Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson as well.

In Canada though, the world’s going the way of Will and Kate this week. Scandal free at this juncture, signifying a new trend? Perhaps.

KATE MIDDLETON INSPECTS WESTMINSTER ABBEY

Although Westminster Abbey is tinged with sadness as Lady Diana‘s funeral took place there, it appears that Westminster will be the venue where Kate Middleton will marry Prince William.

Reports the UK Daily Mail: “Exclusive pictures show Kate, 28, paying a secret visit last night to the historic church that witnessed Princess Diana’s funeral.

The bride-to-be emerged alongside William’s closest aides. The Abbey closed early to allow her to carry out the private visit.”

The Prince could not be present as he had to report back to military duties in Wales.

Kate is photographed in her favorite white jacket she’s often seen wearing.

LORD OF THE RINGS – PRINCE WILLIAM’S PRINCESS DIANNA TRIBUTE AS A SYMBOL OF HIS LOVE FOR KATE MIDDLETON

How romantic. In turning up for a photo call with the British Media – Prince William Windsor and his bride to be Kate Middleton both looked a picture of love and all things romantic pertaining to a lifelong commitment to each other and inspiring growth and well being for a Commonwealth Empire.

Their engagement ring belonged to Princess Dianna of Wales and of the ring appearing on Kate’s finger as her engagement ring, Prince William had this to say:

“It is very special to me. It was my way to make sure my mother did not miss out on today and the excitement that we are going to spend the rest of our lives together.”

What a sweet thing to say and do. I don’t thing anyone in celebrity land can trump that. This couple are the super romantics of their generation. Needless to say, the woman that last wore this ring had one of the greatest hearts of compassion of any humanitarian of the modern world. Perhaps Kate as the wearer of this ring, will do the same in the world. But no pressure! :)

Image below of Prince William on his debut public presentation to the world, when his mother chose Waitangi of the Bay of Islands, Northland, New Zealand to present this crown Prince to the world’s eyes.

She was a great woman who chose for her son’s presentation to be surrounded with songs, color and beauty of the Ngapuhi, Ngati Hine,  Te Rarawa, Te Aupouri maori tribes of New Zealand. On his presentation day to the world’s gaze, he was surrounded by the sounds of Te Reo Rangatira (or, the language of Chiefs). Below is a song, that was sung on this day, called Te Whare e Tu Nei – written by songwriter of Matauri Bay, Katerina Mataira - whose name ironically means Katherine in English. Her song’s title when translated means, This House That Stands. Diana had  impeccable taste that her son seems to have inherited in his choice of a wife and a star maker of leaders of a modern world faced with new challenges, requiring a gift of wisdom to be creative towards sustainability in the world’s good future.

It’s nice to see William honor his mother by bringing her engagement ring back into play in the eyes of the world, as a homage to a woman who never saw this Kiwi-presented future King’s engagement day. It’s like full circle of their bond reclaimed in honoring Diana’s memory and his new love with Kate.

Prince William is like every Kiwi’s little brother in a sense of those who watched his parents marry in 1981. Myself, being just one of many, now blogging about this momentus day in his life from California. Surreal stuff. To visit Waitangi for yourself – a right of passage for all people in the U.K who have followed the royals for years, go here to discover more on how to do that. It’s the region where I grew up.

KATE MIDDLETON SPARKS AN AMERICAN OBSESSION WITH BRITISH ROYALTY TRADITIONS

All across America, many are obsessed with Kate Middleton. As noted from Hollywood, California USA, Washington DC is doing the best royal commentary this week. Leslie Shepherd of the Washington Post’s conversations with American royal watchers follows. Cut downs anyway.

Has there been a Queen Katherine since Henry VIII?

Stamford, Conn.: There has been at least one Queen Catherine since Henry VIII: Catherine of Braganza, a Portuguese princess who was the wife of Charles II (he reigned 1660-1685).

Where will Kate & Will’s wedding take place? Westminster Abbey, where his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II in 1947 to Prince Prince Phillip and his great-grandmother were married? Or St. Paul’s Cathedral, where the “fairytale” marriage of his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana took place in 1981? London bookies say August 13th for Will and Kate at Westminster Abbey is the likely date and location. However Diana’s funeral was held there, so some even say Windsor Castle could be a good wedding venue.

A royal coin of commemoration? There were reports in October that the Royal Mint was preparing a commemorative coin to mark the wedding.

Leslie Shepherd: Just heard he gave her Diana’s engagement ring. What a touching tribute to the mother he lost when he was only 15. Remember that big blue sapphire and diamond ring?

WILLIAM AND KATE’S ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT IS RATING BIG IN HOLLYWOOD

A ROYAL WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT 11.16.10

Buckingham Palace has announced the engagement of Prince William Windsor to Kate Middleton. The official statement is as follows:

“The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton.

The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.

Prince William and Miss Middleton became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya. Prince William has informed The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton’s father.

Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force.”

Cute. Big news for Commonwealth nations today. The betrothed are both 28. It was 1981 when the wedding of Britain’s last Crown Prince was seen. That was quite a moment in world history when Williams parents both wed. Kate and William have been dating eight years.

PRINCE WILLIAM WINDSOR AND KATE MIDDLETON WEDDING GOSSIP

I was thinking while side-stepping my 7th date offer of the week for Saturday via text, not even –that if marriage is down in the UK to the lowest level since 1862 this year (2 in 100 women eligible, married in Britain last year); and if Wales is exactly the same with marriage stats, and America is seeing the lowest marriage rate in the last 100 years–what do we believe about marriage today exactly?

Do we believe marriage has got everything to do with a booming economy?

If so, our grandparents, or their parents or our parents, would never have married, perhaps never have made a commitment to each other–their kids perhaps might never have been born in the great depression and its aftermath effects.

So, if no one’s getting wedded, economies in the world aren’t exactly growing as well as we’d all like about now–what the heck does each day mean to most people? What are we working for each day? To look to a political leader for hope? Miracles? A good joke, to get us through perhaps? That’s always a bonus.

But in the silence of the non-ringing chapel bells, who are we living for and what? The hope that we’re going to turn a magical corner and that thing’s will get a bit better?

Do we believe in love and that irrespective of a dollar sign, or a secure salary we think is acceptable; love is still enough reason to throw a party for your mates and family anyway–everyone pitch in, to see vows exchanged in celebration of a fun, happy day in family life. Nope. Not at this moment.

Just when I was about to pat myself on the back, as a commitment-phobe–that my life wasn’t so bad in light of these new normal statistics, I was robbed of that opportunity of false security, yet again.

Instead, I saw this tabloid cover. A Royal Wedding rumor of Will and Kate.

Look, call me sentimental, but I don’t even care if it’s not true. Tabloid stories like this are needed in the world.

Needless to say, if these kids got married soon–it could well be the wedding of the decade. The lights on the global stage are dimmed so low, they’re ready for a big spectacular romantic wedding spotlight about now. Stars and stripes via The U.K. Why not?

US Weekly Magazine has produced a good magazine cover. Here in America as a contrast, I think Kim Kardashian could give this star couple of the U.K a run for their money, if she ever did walk down the aisle.

Alhtough Kim’s not a royal, her Los Angeles Cinderella reality TV story–would rank right up there in the age of social media-decided stardom.

US Weekly reports royal ‘sources’ as saying: “The couple will announce next year, their wedding date. Will has promised Kate she is ‘the one.’”

Love it.

PEOPLE MAGAZINE ARE OBSESSED ABOUT WILL AND KATE’S ROYAL ROMANCE

WILL AND KATE’S ROYAL TABLOID WEDDING ROUND UP

If you immerse yourself in tabloid romances, then you won’t really know who to believe.

For example, on the matter of the romantic hopes of the Commonwealth, when it comes to the alleged royal wedding plans of William Windsor and Kate Middleton, tabloids will have you believing anything they want to, in order to flog their headlines at supermarket checkout aisles.

On one hand, as these two tabloid covers prove—Will and Kate are going splendidly well in the romance department. Then, on the other hand their relationship is strained, even better than Earl Grey tea being poured from grandma’s heirloom bone China tea set through a refining tea strainer. It’s just so British to sip on a good cuppa cha, while reading your news.

But for their mild distraction value, still get a tabloid anyway for some brain-numbing social research, and laugh-out-loud story lines, but just know your cup of tea is perhaps going to be more real than what you’re reading in a tabloid.

WILLIAM WINDSOR AND KATE MIDDLETON HYPE WEDDING EXPECTATIONS

It must be war time in the U.K when the Crown Prince and his bride to be–are so prominent in magazine headlines in the U.S. The normally private couple are the center of U.K attention in the name of love and romance.

Cute. There could never be a wedding like Diana‘s though, as this headline from OK Magazine alludes. She was legend.

ROMANTIC ROYAL WEDDING ANTICIPATION FOR PRINCE WILLIAM AND KATE MIDDLETON’S EPIC WEDDING DAY RISES

According to Star Magazine the wedding of the decade is in the planning stages. Crown Prince William Windsor and Kate Middleton are about to reignite hearts in the Commonwealth with an epic love story unfolding before the world’s eyes as they walk down the aisles.

Says Star

In the June 7 issue — on sale today — we have eight pages of royal dish about William and Kate’s upcoming nuptials, including the A-list guests, the extravagant gown, where they’ll say “I do,” Kate’s surprise gift for William and more!

“William has always said he will be ready for marriage after his 28th birthday — that’s next month,” royal expert Nicholas Davies, author of William: King for the 21st Century, tells Star. “The timing is perfect for a wedding this year.”

Insiders estimate that as many as 3 billion awestruck viewers could tune in and the audience will not be disappointed by the ceremony with the couture gowns, lavish bouquets and priceless jewelry, including the 18-karat sapphire and diamond engagement ring William inherited from his late mother, Diana, which he plans to give to his bride-to-be.

And while Kate will certainly look to Diana and Prince Charles’ 1981 wedding when planning her own, she plans to put her own spin on the ceremony as a modern British bride.

When a young couple fall in love, is the world big enough to contain their great love for it and the Peace that can only be found in loving one other?
