26 CONSONANTS AS SYMBOLS THAT DEFINE MEANING, AND GOOGLE’S POWER OBSESSION TO OWN THE WAY THEY ARE USED

A consonant’s single power to define, reorder meaning in a collective of consonants–and who owns their arrangement in “words” that form “meaning” to create “laws” that protect and privilege certain people over others, in “books” or corporate or government “notes” and leaked “documents”– is the top trend in the world today–this week. It’s all about information sharing of consonants and written symbols today as collected via computer technology–and who has a right to “distribute” these consonants arrangement on a data file or printed page (being digitalized) to fellow human beings, supposedly deeply affected by these “words” and “consonants” arrangement and ordering of expression.

Are letters (written consonants/ symbols of a few people) more important than the lives of the majority of people?

Do we worship the iconography of our own words and their protection more so than lives being lost every second?

Do consonants really determine Freedom? Or, is freedom shared in the spirit of brotherhood worldwide — bigger and more spiritual than written consonants alone devoid of human bodies, flesh, blood, melanin and bone and breath–transcending the limitations of just the letter of the law? I think the true essence and meaning of Liberty is. Living words are always so much more what we all serve. Or should. Not death words or death systems words for the majority of people on the planet.

Which is why I think a war of data distribution “ownership” and “protection of certain peoples words over another’s” or “exclusion of some peoples words from finding other peoples eyes and ears too” is a little silly.

It reeks of entitlement of a few–and that’s an archaic model that isn’t serving the majority of peoples interests in the world today in many political systems. The world is changing –keep UP!

I was thinking that with the Wikileaks scandal, with Google’s scanning of every Victorian book ever printed in the 19th Century, and also every book ever printed–that the world is getting a little bit obsessed about owning the 26 consonants of the English language, how they have been used in history, how they are being arranged today–and what meaning these 26 letters can create.

So for all of the power freaks in the world, who want to own all words ever written and printed (with 26 letters of the English alphabet), want to control their distribution, and definitive ‘scientific’ arrangement and meaning–my suggestion is, that perhaps: a) you dropped out of school too young, b) you always wanted to be a writer but never had the talent c) your sibling got more alphabet soup in their plate than you did–because this ‘control obsession’ with data ownership based on ownership of words and symbols of letters is getting a bit ridiculous.

You see, true creativity is a symbol of endless power that is not stuck, static or frozen. Meaning is created by such people that is relevant in any era we all live in.

True creative people create new words all the time, that can never be controlled. Once upon a time, Beyonce in the group Destiny’s Child coined the term “bootylicious” to express an African American form of sexiness in order to bring awareness to her difference and to create space for her peoples’ unique representation in the world. It was a ridiculous word, yet the people decided it wasn’t. The word became a no. 1 hit pop song and is now entered into and included into the English dictionary of globally understood meaning.

[Images from Google Books, home page today, top banner visuals as at 12.5.10]. FYI, I haven’t read one of these books and never once felt the need to. We have amazing authors in New Zealand like Janet Frame and Patricia Grace–all of whose books I haven’t read yet–before these lads writing books would get a look in, to my reading glasses. However, this is who google touts what we should all be reading today. Wow!]

A PONTIFICATING KING – OBAMA – LOS ANGELES TIMES – 11.4.10

Shellacking” due to an energy policy that’s greedy, lustful  & feudal?” Yep!

America Today – looks like this, from the front page of the Los Angeles Times – Entertainment Capitol of the World.

The LA Times, paints a picture of A Pontificating American King – in President Barack Obama.

Where did I/We/ Whatevz “f*ck up” – is not a good look, especially for a man whose in the hot throne seat, a burning throne he inherited, only two years ago.

This man needs our support not our lynching tendencies. Lynch pin politics are found in New Zealand. A problem solving nation, we always like to help. Soultions are us. Encouragement is Key. Go Obama! Rock it out brotha. Nothing to lose.

If you want to know what NZ thinks about this, check out this post, for one answer. I like the proven source, where it comes from.

In New Zealand we share everything with our brown people – that way, we don’t get shellacked.

DANCES WITH WOLVES HOLLYWOOD 2010′s: ALEX MERAZ, KEVIN COSTNER AND RAOUL TRUJILLO

Above is a pic of actor Alex Meraz. Below is the film trailer of Kevin Costner‘s multiple Oscars winning film, Dances With Wolves. Hollywood history has so much to be thankful for to Native American Indian actors and their tribes.

Let’s go Young Hollywood, 2010′s.

As Alex is both an artist and a joker-comedian (hence this Heath Ledger tribute) like many Indigenous Peoples are. His sense of humor reflects the best form of indigenous entertainment that has been occurring for centuries, whether a camera is on Alex’s people or not. So, here’s some tweets written by Alex on twitter that are kinda funny.

On friendly city welcomes: “Heading back to Arizona for the weekend! I better bring my passport cause last I heard things changed.”

On Chris Nolan‘s casting: “Fell asleep during Inception the whole cast was doing it so it seemed like a good idea. What I did see was GOOD! I’ll drink coffee nxt time.”

cf: Uncle Emile having exact same reaction in the same film. So noted. :)

On being vampire-entertainment Hollywood fit: “Eating while watching people get open heart surgery done on tv. Is that wrong?”

Yes Alex! That was not very vegetarian-sensitive of you. :)

On adding the heat to co-stars A-List game: “Had an odd random dream about Kristen Stewart last night…WoW I’m never looking at her the same way again!”

On sketching his own star branding: “www.alexmeraz.com is finally up! I hand drew every single page on the website check it out and let me know what you think!”

Alex is just so talented! Go kid! The late Maury Chaykin also features in the following trailer with Kevin Costner. Dances with Wolves is still such a fine film today.

In the tradition of dark stream-of-consciousness literary humor a la mode, Janet Frame, a literary genius of the past on social times commentary, this post going up for Alex Frame today and Cowboys & Aliens star Raoul Trujillo of the New World (also pictured). EARTH POETRY: Q’ORIANKA KILCHER AND JOSH BROLIN

When the Earth speaks, the people listen.

I can hear you rain, making holes in the silence.

“Indigenous Peoples are at the front lines of global climate change”

Where the bee sucks, there suck I;

In a cowslip’s bell I lie;

There I couch when owls do cry.

Merrily, merrily shall I live now

Under the blossom that hangs on an Amazon’s bough.

Where owls do cry, when els do cry, where el doth cry

The Earth stops and listens, when El doth cry.

Willow weep for me, cries the Earth

Exhausted from our lust for ‘worth.’

Suspend my disbelief, through the proscenium arch

of an elevated-g’arden Shakespeare play,

like a Plentitude piece set on Eden’s stage,

spilled from Elisha’s twilit weary soul.

“Indigenous Peoples are at the front lines of global climate change”

Che Guevara heal this yearning milk of earth. Laboring in black blood, giving birth

to children of the New World. They near closer, when owls do cry,

when els do cry, when the El doth cry, so do i.

Our black tears are mingled salty prayers, imploring as the column

of burning incense ascending, with one ask:

Of what compassionate World, will our enlightened spirits leave them?

PRELUDE TO MERATA MITA’S POEM – PART 2

Prelude for Merata, Part 2:

It was the time to make my first documentary, that would be graded in an academic university, by a white [Pakeha] judge and examiner–just because they perhaps wouldn’t see the deeper cultural inflections in it. (As yet, there were no Maori on staff). Of course, they were never going to fully understand my filmic art in its totally, but as a paying client [a student] I was ready to give the system a go. The judge was Annie Goldson, a Kiwi Jewess filmmaker and lecturer, so I figured I’d be more than okay–because she had filmed a lot of people of different cultures.

It had been a decade since I’d attempted an academic journey, having dropped out of school at 15 years of age and returning as a 25 year-old adult student. One day, the lady who had a Maori face, who read the mainstream news, said to me, when I was a waiter—“Dude, you have a brain, go to film school.” Although she was scripted to speak, by silent [invisible] producers, I listened and did what the anchor woman of news said. [She knows who she is].

STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS NOVEL WRITING by JACK KEROUAC

When I was at college at Auckland University, the poet Selina Marsh taught me Jack Kerouac‘s writings as a part of the American Literature program. It was a hot little number of back to back lectures on American author artists. Loved it.

In particular, his stream of consciousness novel writing techinique was what intrigued me in Selina’s excellent tutorials. Here’s some of Kerouac’s artform that I’ve always loved.

“The air was soft, the stars so fine, the promise of every cobbled alley so great, that I thought I was in a dream.”
- Jack Kerouac, On the Road, Part 1, Ch. 7

“I woke up as the sun was reddening; and that was the one distinct time in my life, the strangest moment of all, when I didn’t know who I was — I was far away from home, haunted and tired with travel, in a cheap hotel room I’d never seen, hearing the hiss of steam outside, and the creak of the old wood of the hotel, and footsteps upstairs, and all the sad sounds, and I looked at the cracked high ceiling and really didn’t know who I was for about fifteen strange seconds.”
- Jack Kerouac, On the Road, Part 1, Ch. 3

“We fumed and screamed in our mountain nook, mad drunken Americans in the mighty land. We were on the roof of America and all we could do was yell, I guess–across the night…”
- Jack Kerouac, On the Road, Part 1, Ch. 9

“LA is the loneliest and most brutal of American cities; New York gets god-awful cold in the winter but there’s a feeling of wacky comradeship somewhere in some streets.”
- Jack Kerouac, On the Road, Part 1, Ch. 13

POETRY: THE HAPPY PRINCE by JANET FRAME

In the children’s record of the Happy Prince,

before each gold flake is peeled from the Prince’s body,

the voice orders, Turn the Page, Turn the Page,

supposing that children do not know when to turn,

and may live at one line for many years,

sliding and bouncing boisterously along the words,

breaking the closed letters for a warm place to sleep.

Turn the Page, Turn the Page.

DALE’S TRIP TO LA

HollywoodBoulevard2

Recently a girlfriend, Dale, came to LA from New Zealand to say hi after a 7 day vacation in Las Vegas.

PICT0189We are both pictured here at the Beverly Wilshire after lunch on Rodeo before Dale flew out again.

PICT0188

The Wilshire is where Julia Roberts and Richard Gere filmed the hit movie, Pretty Woman, which kick started Roberts’ career into A-List super stardom.

I was blessed by Dale’s shining visit. She’s as sharp as Chelsea Handler of the Chelsea Lately show. So much so, that I wish Dale would stand for politics in New Zealand. She’s the Julia Roberts of New Zealand politics. A true star.

PICT0190

Having seen a lot of politicians serve the New Zealand people and watching the news each night from Washington too here in the US, I think Dale has one of the best political minds that New Zealand has to offer. Dale…. please do stand as a politician. The country needs you.

Anyway, here’s Dale on vacation, doing a booty hip bump with ‘Barack Obama,’ and paying tribute from New Zealand to Michael Jackson’s star on Hollywood Boulevard, for the contributions in music and entertainment that MJ gave to all New Zealanders, back in the day.

Maoris loved MJ’s music and still do. He did a lot for better race relations of all Maori in New Zealand on the airwaves and as a music artist. It was nice to see Dale at his star in Hollywood.

Now when can we get The Pounamu Walk of Fame conceptualised and developed in New Zealand featuring befitting and noble tributes to NZ greats like Peter Jackson, Sir Edmund Hilary, Colin Meade, Moana Maniapoto, Michael Jones, Richard Chandler, Sir Peter Buck (Te Rangi Hiroa), Sir Apiriana Ngata, Witi Ihimaera, Janet Frame and The Maori Queen for example?

Positioning The Pounamu Walk of Fame, either at Te Papa Museum along the Wellington waterfront in the nation’s capitol or along the Auckland Waterfront in the largest Polynesian City in the world, would be perfect, as a tribute to culture and those who’ve inspired and extended cultural life throughout history.

PICT0194

While here, the effervescent and lovely Dale stayed at The Hotel Angeleno at the base of LA’s stunning Getty Museum, which is home to the largest private art collection in the world.

HotelAngelino

Already, I miss Dale in LA! Thanks for coming Dale. You refresh and uplift the spirit. What a total honey! xox
