THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN CHRISTMAS DAY USA – 12.25.10
There’s no stopping Christina Hendricks today from chalking up the most votes by a country mile. Two views of Rotterdam and Sydney Australia via Getty Images this Christmas day remind us how wonderful this time of year is in the world. The promise? “For unto us a child is born, and unto us a son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulders. His name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, The Prince of Peace, The Everlasting Father.” At this time in my family’s history – these ancient words are for someone very tiny and special in our family. At the moment the little one is swimming. Cute.

Bonus Post: ENTERTAINMENT AND WORLD NEWS THIS CHRISTMAS – 12.21.10
In the spirit of sharing, click on these bloggers in between our bonus posts and say hi. Many of them work harder than I do all year round turning on an entertainment show as website writers and or bloggers. Let’s make Christmas happen for these girls and guys too, if we can. My only claim to fame is that by virtue of location living in Hollywood means that what is on Horiwood.Com is seen as being more credible at times then these hardworking people. I think that’s fair as to survive Hollywood–you have to be ten times tougher than bloggers who don’t live here. It’s part of earning your fame cred in the City of Angels, but with it comes a thorough understanding of the ‘unspoken Hollywood rules of fame.’ It really can’t be learned any other way than living here. A tough school I am thankful to almost have graduated from. To everyone whose ever supported me here in seen and many unseen ways that I have felt, thank you so much for making a Maori’s dream that I never once grew up dreaming, but fortuitously fell into by grace of opportunity, come true. :)
For celebrity bloggers who don’t live in Hollywood, know that all opinions aired and shared have validity in a democratic society of equal people, so let’s support such bloggers too, aye if we have the time and feel like it?! Thanks team. Any celebrity blogger who does charity posts and shines a light on the defenseless, the unheard, the misrepresented, the needy, the poor–will always be a star in my book in that moment they turn their light on such people, just like us. Only creative people have this ability to influence others for the good, which is why I’m affirming their energy and efforts today as stars in the world of entertainment. Alright, on with the show then. :)

A HORIWOOD HOLLYWOOD CHRISTMAS – TOP TEN NEWS TUES – 12.21.10
No. These two are not discussing the latest funnies on the ICanHasCheeseburger Blog! This is an official ambassador visit photo. Prince Harry shares a smile with German actress Sophia Thomalla at the charity gala ‘Ein Herz fuer Kinder’ in Berlin, Germany. Amongst chatting up hot blondes, Harry was on his first official visit to Germany where The Bernauer Strasse Wall Memorial was a place where the Prince laid a wreath on a restored section of Berlin’s former East-West border, including the Wall and the area behind it known as the ‘death strip’ where many died trying to escape back in the day before U2 sung and the wall came tumbling down. In hot Kiwi news, rugby football stars, Andrew Ellis says he’s heading to Aussie for Christmas holidays; Kieran Reed is looking forward to becoming a new dad real soon, and Stephen Donald says “Mate. The Coromandel is the only place to be this Christmas.”
Today we hit 2.8 million on ze blog. Japan and Iran both got hit by massive earthquakes. Let’s be mindful of Iran and Japan today. Sudan could have 2.8 million people displaced real soon. THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – MON 12.20.10
Husband. What husband, says the UK when selecting their most favorite wedding pic of Nicole Richie‘s big wedding day with Benji Madden. UK media prefer a picture of American interracial and intergenerational family-star power with Nicole and her dad Lionel Richie for this magazine cover and an image of modern family.
A very sweet picture of Michael Jackson‘s god-daughter and her dad. What a beautiful bride, Richie was. Weddings, marriage romance, commitment in love from two people to each other rising above (through and past) current economic times and anything that politicians may (or may not) say– is the new trend of the 2010′s. Long live true love.

THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – THU 12.16.10
We live in an age where power people are obsessed with owning, quantifying/ qualifying WORDS, their USAGE, their CONTEXT, their HISTORY, their ORIGIN, their FREQUENCY and most of all THEIR MEANING. Why do words scare/ fascinate obsessive people so much?–Horiwood 2010′s.
Have you ever heard of the term culturomics? It posits that technology (a tracking tool developed by Google) can track words of scanned books and work out totals and frequencies of the words used and in what context. That’s amazing – because we have to believe the findings are true. I mean–it’s not like we’re going to manually go through 17,000 books for examples and check are we.
This either makes us extremely ‘trusting in Google’s brand integrity’ or extremely vulnerable and naive to being manipulated by Google as a ‘cultural engineer’ shaping our perceptions of culture past, in books.
Wikileaks taught us perhaps, that we can’t really trust people who manipulate data or information. We just can’t any longer–with no offense to the good people at Google, of course. In general we just live in an age–where data is being manipulated for other means than what we initially think. The global economic crises also taught us this outside of words, regarding numbers, as well.
So which one are we? Gullible or trusting in whatever Google’s new tool claims are ‘definitive’ findings? As always –perhaps ride the middle line, and believe half of what ‘culturomics’ findings tell us. Otherwise it’s a new invented ‘literary religion based on key findings’ with no checks and balances, that cannot be debated either, because it has the appearance of being ‘scientific.’ Culturomics is either going to be really good or really darn scary–there’s no middle ground to it, as it’s completely unaccountable to other technology counter-scanning and collating its findings at this point. Or in other words, it’s not scientific, yet its outcomes posited are claiming to be pure quantitative science. A full press release by Google follows below our top ten results today about it–positioned as a news story.

Jane Seo on Culturomics for The Harvard Crimson writes this Press Release:
“A team of Harvard researchers has created a new tool that analyzes language patterns in published books to quantify cultural and historical trends from 1800 to 2000.
The innovative research tool made its debut yesterday in an article titled “Quantitative Analysis of Culture Using Millions of Digitized Books,” which was published online in the journal Science and launched as a feature on Google.
[The Guardian UK posits Google's word-counting tool fancies Sigmund Freud of many other fine philosophers]
Dubbed “culturomics,” the tool enables the public to use the Google Books database as a “genome of culture,” according to Adrian Veres ’12, one of the article’s authors.

Willow Smith‘s innocent comments about who should be educating children (in her star status case) perhaps denote that some parents think the schooling system is overrated when educating their children. Here’s what Ms. Willow said to The Telegraph & CBS; ”I never really get to go to school because I am always on tour or with my father. There is a tutor most of the time, but usually I am working so I never get to do the lessons. The worst thing about maths is all the kids are ahead of me because they go to school.” Image courtesy of Toya’z World.

I took a break from blogging to see what the world outside of blogging was all about the last three days. Guess what? Absolutely nothing happened. How refreshing. I guess I have carte blanche to blog away then until my hearts content.

THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – WED 12.8.10
Kim Kardashian is the number 1 reality TV star earner of 2010. Jessica Simpson has quietly built an empire of $750 million this year with shoes, denim, swimwear, fragrances, and accessories–affordability to people is how she did it.
Achieving that goal in a global economic crises was no small feat. Good for her! Britney Spears, Jason Trawicke holiday in Mexico (below) and Jennifer Hudson is spotted with baby Daniel Ortega today. Cute. Hudson inspires us with an anthem of being grateful for the Spirit of Love that always brings us on through every threat hurdle or fear in life, as good shines in the World.
If there’s one person in America with first hand knowledge of the depth of love that resides in the American people and this nation’s great spirit it is this young lady. When she sings she dispels fear, instills courage and restores faith in the America Dream. I had the privilege to see Jennifer live because a friend kindly made that moment happened. We never left her concert the same. She’s a gift.
On that note–Let’s go people. Up!

THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – TUE 12.7.10
Transparency is like refined gold, it has to be earned, tested with trust. So, I like people who endeavor to display a transparent spirit as leaders who serve the best interests of all, hence this quote running on this blog: ”In my time as Prime Minister I have tried to push for greater transparency, and we are happy to have an independent body overseeing expenses and entitlements for MPs [politicians], says New Zealand’s leader from Wellywood/ Wellington,”John Key 3 News. Information is like water flow. It often doesn’t flow to the right people who need to have it. Knowledge equals power. Africa needs water. What do we do this knowledge?
Transparency is good in any sincere culture but discretion is a part of wisdom too: ‘Do not let the left hand know what the right hand is doing… Be as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove… A wise man conceals a matter.’
Often people who expect others to be transparent are not themselves–so good men and naturally transparent people–are forced to be wise and manage their own information about themselves, like a cultural taonga of New Zealand belonging to the collective people of Aotearoa New Zealand. Each nation is a knowledge farm of fruitful minds.
Here in America, today - Shiloh Jolie-Pitt has already worked out what her parents do and wants to follow in their footsteps already as a performer turning out a show. “Shi’Bouncy” couldn’t be happier with her baseball bat and military attire as mother Angelina Jolie, sister Zahara and Maddox go to Lee’s Art Store themselves in Manhattan, New York to shop before they imagine and create as artists. Too cute. This family is on the attack today from haters not in Jolie’s league, or, all of her children either. Love it. Maddox Jolie-Pitt has been a star longer than many people claiming to be celebs today. He was born this way. A star.
Jolie’s statement today could be–Our best art, is serving our children, to be informed by their worldview, creating their art. In any culture, isn’t that always the truth.
