UNSEEN FOOTAGE OF STANLEY KUBRICK’S “2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY” IS DISCOVERED

Warner Bros.; the dominant studio of Hollywood in terms of box office earnings has evidently unearthed 17 minutes of lost footage from Stanley Kubrick‘s sci-fi classic “2001: A Space Odyssey.” The forgotten footage is believed to have been found in a Kansas salt-mine vault, according to Forgotten Silver (via Slash Film and The Film Stage).

Exciting news for film buffs worldwide. 2001 is an example of schlick filmmaking that altered time and space on film in its day. Nice PR. A forgotten treasure theme of culture, has a nice feel to it.

REFORMED HEROIN ADDICT HELEN BAYLOR, SINGS ALL OF ME, FOR CHRISTMAS 2010

“Mould me in your hands, into a vessel you can use”–song lyrics, the incomparable Helen Baylor

At this minute in Hollywood, a certain malpracticing ‘doctor’ has been accusing a certain A-Listed actress of being a non-reformed and current heroin addict, for his own try hard publicity. This woman has children. And he’s doing this at Christmas time. What a raping grinch!

This is what a real reformed heroin addict does look like. Drug addiction is a disease like any other that is nothing to be proud of or ashamed of either. It’s just something that some good people are or have been afflicted by. Many people in Hollywood, New York and Australia are afflicted by heroine addiction.

This real reformed heroine addict (above) is so beautiful on the inside. Her name is Helen Baylor and for our West Hollywood Christmas Special, Helen sings All of Me live, because in her life, she credits overcoming heroin dependancy on her faith in God. In this song she offers up her life as a broken gift, full of the good, the bad and the plain ugly facts of her life. So powerful! Ms. Baylor makes me bawl my face off when she sings. If you hear her life story, you’ll bawl your face off too. Yet Helen ‘aint ever graced a cover of a tabloid or a visible-to-all magazine. Why is that I wonder? She’s a total winner.

I love her. Stars don’t get more real than Helen Baylor this Christmas. Her story belongs in a future Hollywood film. Helen Baylor’s life is the freaking Christmas story. No one can deny Helen her Christmas story. If you tried, she’d sing you out of the ball park. Go lady! Sing the Christmas blues. Merry Christmas people, especially ya’ll in West Hollywood. This year we are celebrating grinch-freeness in our lives at Christmas.

We are celebrating living lives beyond lies and falsity too. 2011′s hot American goal. It’s actually a miracle many of us are even having a Christmas this year and that we are choosing to. Truly, it is. We overcame a lot this year in two years of the most hideous economy ever, where we still watched the greedy get greedier and act like spoiled children, more uglier to me than heroine addicts are, wanting more so blatantly. That stuff was sick! Average people perhaps like ourselves all got a bit thinner and came out on top this year, still smiling. Wow! How cool are all you people? You’re the best!  Let’s keep at it then. Grinch-kicking has become my new sport. Join me in it, in making the world a sweeter place in 2011. Meanness, stingyness (the flipside of greed), let’s kick it to the curb when we see it, to win. Up!

Click on Helen’s picture above to see a winner shine drug free. Her gratitude is medicine. Can’t get enough of her spirit to celebrate living life to the fullest with healthy respect for the gift of life. Wow!

HORIWOOD.COM GROWS TO 2.8 MILLION IN HOLLYWOOD

Horiwood.Com has reached the 2.8 million milestone as a Hollywood entertainment blog created and shared daily by a Maori New Zealander who lives in West Hollywood California. Yes, the moment does feel slightly juicy. Believe it or not, history has even been made.

At the 2.8 million mark this Christmas season, first up, thanks you fullahs worldwide, for your amazing daily interest and support online. Every day your presence makes me rise up and try harder as a person, shake off the crap and kick obstacles to the curb. The people you vote on this blog, I look at carefully and learn from. Thanks.

Let’s also think about the UN‘s latest message: that if war breaks out 2.8 million people of Sudan will be displaced. Harrowing news.

There’s always bloody something (or someone) else far more important to think about in the world isn’t there, before we can celebrate much these days? Oh well, welcome to being a global citizen I guess. Again… thanks a million.

Mauri ‘Ola. Life to US! Especially our brothers and sisters in Sudan this Christmas.

A BEN LUMMIS CHRISTMAS – THEY CAN’T TAKE THAT AWAY – HOLLYWOOD 2010

Christmas is about possessing a spirit of compassion–to give away richly. Got spirit?

It’s Christmas time in the City of Angels, California USA. I’m so excited I’m here for that. It’s a Christmas miracle that I am (long story!).

The moment I most associate with a Christmas feeling in the Entertainment Capitol of the World this year is perhaps Ben Lummis singing They Can’t Take That Away live in 2006. Lummis has vocal quality few American male stars that have been manufactured in the last five years show. He’s the real deal singing star. He’s more like Usher in terms of true vocal quality as a live performer than someone like T-Pain for example.

Ben’s winning performance of when he got discovered is a Hollywood-worthy moment to me as it reflects how trends created in California can and do cross cultures, effortlessly across the world too, (more…)

LA RADIO JOCKS, COFFEE AT STARBUCKS AND HARRISON’S CRAZY FED STORIES 12.19.10

Today I had coffee with Harrison who has a radio show here in L.A. Millions of people listen to Harrison and believe his political opinions.

Normally we discuss pop culture, but today we played a game called “Tell me your best conspiracy theory story, but it has to be true. This was Harrison’s whack story:

“After WWII, the UK and America made a deal. The UK said “You can be the new Empire of the world and go to war and do that stuff, as we are in debt after this blasted war. However we will control the money system of the Western world. Today Lloyds of London, still rules Goldman Sachs, the US banks–constituting The Fed. World economies are set by them.”

Scary aye.

Harrison’s conclusion was “thank goodness for all of those ‘vote for this topic’ thingies on Facebook, so that a daily sense of democracy is restored, as everyone gets their democracy fix online.”

Harrison is more nuts than that caramel stuff they put into the holiday lattes at Starbucks this Christmas. I swear they’re tripling up on that stuff, it’s super good. He’s a good fella. Always makes me laugh with the entertaining-crazy.

Heated debate was had arguing the fors and not-so-much-fors of the Wikileaks debacle. It ended when we got to the topic of ‘carbon credit’ instead of money–a topic that has nada to do with Wikileaks actually… so far anyway!

GRIEF, RABBIT HOLE, NICOLE KIDMAN AND AARON ECKHART MAKE “FALLING APART” LOOK OKAY

Once upon a time an author wrote the story of an average American couple, who woke up one day to their four-year-old son, following their family pooch into the street, only to get tragically killed by a teenaged driver. This story is the premise of Rabbit Hole, the film that Nicole Kidman‘s film company has produced–that has been Golden Globe nominated and that deals with grief.

“There’s no way around it. We all eventually lose somebody. We are going to grieve. And some of us are better at it than others” as Rabbit Hole proves. “Kidman, who also produced the film through her own Blossom Films, had stumbled upon a review of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Lindsay-Abaire four years ago, while having coffee with her husband, Keith Urban, one morning at a Nashville Starbucks.

“It sounded so poignant,” she said. “They just said it was so real and authentic. And they’re the sort of stories that I’m drawn to.”

It’s awesome seeing Nicole Kidman leap so effortlessly into producing. A risky business in this economy outside of the studio system, but this A-List actress, armed with courage, a good script, her talent and some talented friends like Aaron Eckhart is off to a good start to date.

The film opens Christmas day. Woot!

OLIVIA WILDE TALKS FITNESS AND MARRYING ON A SCHOOL BUS

Olivia Wilde is a knock out as she covers this month’s Women’s Health Magazine. In preparing to be movie ready she confesses:

“I worked with a personal trainer, so I did about an hour of cardio five or six days a week. Weight training three times a week, mixed martial arts/fighting three times a week, and that’s a lot more than my normal routine.”On Friday in IMAX and 3D, you can see Olivia’s hard work onscreen when TRON: Legacy opens at the flicks.

Wilde’s unconventional marriage defies any Hollywood movie role she could ever play. She tells a story of how she eloped with Italian filmmaker Tao Ruspoli (the son of Prince Dada Ruspoli) after only six months of courting. Rather unconventionally and very spontaneously, the love birds who share film as their passion married on a school bus in Virginia. They’re still going strong after six years from their special day on a bus.

“You’re not thinking, ‘We must be perfect!’” Wilde shares. “It was, ‘Hey, isn’t this an optimistic thing to do? And if it lasts, we’re lucky.’” She says having a filmmaking husband has it’s benefits. Tao just gets it. Wilde says her husband doesn’t even mind when she’s got love scenes with other actors — as long as it’s only on set.  ”I think he likes it, she says, borrowing an Italian sense of humor. “It’s a turn-on that I get to do these things. The confidence that comes along with doing well only makes you more desirable.”

Upcoming sci-fi flick, Cowboys & Aliens, is what Olivia will appear in next. The film co-stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Sam Rockwell. To check out more from this pint sized cutie of action film, shoot over to Women’s Health Mag.

ROYAL ROMANCE IN 3D – UK TV – REGINA AND PRINCE PHILLIP BECOME THE FUTURE

Reports Urmee Khan for the UK Telegraph:

Channel 4 will light up the U.K’s television with footage of The Queen in 3D. Urmee says that the footage of her Majesty will look like a regular television picture until viewers, reach across the coffee table over the ruby, for their special glasses where the images will strangely appear to emerge from the screen. Right in your own living room.

It’s perhaps a way of Her Majesty saying, she has a unique perspective? A very cool idea.

Director Bob Angell and cameraman Arthur Wooster shot the colour newsreel as part of a package called Royal Review. The special 3D effect was achieved by using two cameras simultaneously at different angles before blending the archived footage into one single picture. It’s about blending two views of the same existing facts pre-recorder to reflect a more relevant view today, no one has ever seen from that unique perspective.

3D Royal filmic content: The 3D footage features Queen Elizabeth II at events she attended in the lead up to and after her Coronation in 1953. A visit to the Epsom Derby features and a wee trip on the Royal Barge on the Thames. How posh! Sailing along down the river then.

Angell and Wooster, are in their 80s, and have come out of retirement to make the documentary and get behind the camera one more time and create contemporary footage of the Queen. Grey Power are seriously rocking out a show to inspire the world. Very cool.

David Glover, whose rather grand job description defines him as ‘a specialist factual commissioning editor,’ says, “When I was told that there was unseen footage of the Queen’s coronation in 3D I didn’t really believe it at first. Watching it didn’t disappoint – it was like turning the TV set into a window – you draw back the curtains and look straight back into 1953.”

David Glover adds, “Watching period 3D documentary footage is about as close to time travel as one can get. You watch as the crowds wave at the coronation and you see the young Queen Elizabeth walking right past you,” he added. Sainsburys will distribute the special red and blue glasses for free in collaboration with Channel 4. It’s like Christmas.

The two, hour-long programmes, are made by Renegade Picture Ltd/Can Communicate, in association with the British Film Institute (BFI) and will be shown later in the year.

JOHN KEY STINGS LIKE A MANUKA KING WITH A MUHAMMAD ALI PHOTO SHOOT FOR BURNS SUFFERERS

“I think I look quite good actually,” John Key the well humored Prime Minister of New Zealand reportedly remarked, after modeling an original silk boxing robe signed by American legend of sports and civil rights, Muhammad Ali, purchased by Honey New Zealand for $9,500–provided a photo could be taken of John wearing it.

The son of George Key, Mr Key was raising money for burns sufferers at a Mad Butcher and Suburban Newspapers Community Trust dinner on Friday to raise funds for the National Burn Centre.

Trust chairman Sir Peter Leitch, was delighted with the $219,000 raised. “This is going to allow the centre to get some equipment that is going to make a huge difference to burns sufferers,” he said. Fairfax Media’s Operation Heal text donations was also on the go and other fundraising efforts, and donations from Sunday Star-Times readers helped too.

Sir Peter and Lady Leitch had kicked off the campaign with a $10,000 donation, which was matched by the Hugh Green Foundation and later by the Sir William and Lady Lois Manchester Trust. Nice. Mike Morton, The Mad Butcher’s current owner was present, along with Kerre Woodham who played funny girl MC. Two morning teas with the PM sold at $20k a piece and a pink salmon neck tie he wore to the event for a laugh went for $7k. That’s a fair bit of celebrity heat being generated right there in New Zealand. Good to see.

In Hollywood here’s a manuka honeybee Ali pop cultural tribute to America-New Zealand relations as well as George Burns Hollywood star, Walk of Fame–in the spirit of the PM’s sense of humor and Kiwis generosity of spirit towards others.

Peace.

This story also featured in The Manawatu Standard. Manawatu means “stout hearted” or “to stand tall in heart” in the Maori language of New Zealand. It’s a little bit Mel Gibson Australian-American ‘naughty’ but via Scotland and Hollywood Oscar winning, like the movie Braveheart too. If you’re reading that in Hollywood and are upset that I just wrote Mel Gibson‘s name, grow up, there are no perfect people–just people learning to be better people. In this picture we have a Jewish-Kiwi King wearing an African-American muslim’s champion boxer robe of Ali–whose religious convictions prevented him from fighting at war and who doubled as a civil rights champion in the same manner Nelson Mandela has in the world today also. African-Americans aren’t offended New Zealand’s PM is wearing Ali’s robe and auctioning it off for burns victims. Um, except the one question–how exactly did Mr Key get Ali’s robe? Oops. That’s hysterical.

SEEN HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS YET?

Helena Bonham Carter is Full On! I forgot to mention that at The Grove tonight in West Hollywood, Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows was a real treat to watch. I usually don’t go for witchcraft driven movies as a rule–they’re sort of like really bad mind control films that over do the special effects budget, for nada much but a misrepresentation of power–yet to paint heroes of light in cinema, they must be pitted against witchy poo type characters (in films). For that reason, Hollywood loves good villains and Helena Bonham Carter held her own playing a ‘psycho goth bogan chic in Vivienne Westwood-esque couture,’ with those amazing Harry Potter young people still lighting up the movie screens of Hollywood.

It’s hard to believe she’s really a 3D Queen of the World (Alice in Wonderland’s box office takings, star herself Johnny Depp under Tim Burton‘s colorful direction. In this film, she got off her box office throne and sucked it up–to let the UK’s kids shine. Good for her! A job well done.

Watching the film the people left, front, back all were crying in the sad bits–the power of books translating to film can not be underestimated. I did not cry, as this was my light relief fun moment today in Hollywood. Visually, I sort of felt like it was a Hobbit cousins film meets a Twilight Saga fusion flick- so I felt right at home at The Pacific Theater at The Grove, West Hollywod– watching it, where the ticket machine talks to you in a Kiwi accent. Hot! That robot machine so polite and perky in tone, it brings a smile every time.

If you haven’t seen this film yet, the ‘tale’ within the film about the three brothers and what they all ask of death is intriguing stuff. May the invisible cloak option preferably be what we all choose. If in Los Angeles, here’s the screening times of my two most favorite movie theaters after Grauman’s Chinese Theater and The Egyptian Theater here in the Hollywood hood:

Pacific’s The Grove Stadium 14 – 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles, CA - Map
10:00am  12:15  1:15  3:40  4:30  7:10  8:00  10:30  11:20pm
ArcLight Cinerama Dome – 6360 W Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, CA - Map
11:50am  3:30  7:00  10:20pm
Go see this film, if you haven’t already. It could be a tad bit faster in pace–yet the ‘breathers’ were atypically Hollywood in the editing, making it a little bit novel as well to see.
Peace ya’ll!

A UK CROWN IS A VISUAL ICON APPEARING IN HOLLYWOOD

As you know, if you read this blog I live in the Russian-Jewish District called Little Russia in West Hollywood, California.

I can’t help but notice how all through West Hollywood the Crown as a symbol is appearing in store front windows. West Hollywood is known for its love of plastic Princess crowns imagery–but this Crown is distinctly a King’s crowd. It is solid and a symbol of hope and just rule. Interesting too is the fact that the crown symbols being displayed are majestically painted, like art of Leonardo da Vinci’s era or something groovy like that. They’re a study. The return of majesty is what people want in a shite economy. An interesting expression of desire.

What do I get from this shift in consciousness in West Hollywood window store front windows? Perhaps it signifies that–

Already the American people await in anticipation the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William. Their retail hopes all hinge on her and the special ring she’s wearing of an amazing woman America once loved so much.

I know that these are U.K crowns, because one of them has an inscription written in Gaelic of Scotland in glitter paint. I don’t know why, but perhaps because my Kiwi ancestors descend from Grahamstown of Scotland, the image made me shed a tear of joy. Weird.

I’ll try and get a photo of this for you at some point. America is being so warm towards the UK right now, gauging from these artistic expressions in the West Hollywood hood, a trend setting capitol of the US in terms of what’s hot and what’s not-that feeds into Hollywood’s studios’ elite and is emulated by all in the world. In terms of creative IP being used without return or reward shared back by others, West Hollywood is perhaps one of the most exploited cities in the world for IP theft–however, the city continues to lead with what they feel is more fun for the world. No other deep reason (sadly) just more fun. And what’s wrong that? A crown as a symbol of fun times ahead. I can go with that!

“Crowns are US 2011″ is the message increasingly being expressed by the American people.

Kate Middelton has just made Barbara Walters final list of The Ten Most Fascinating People of America for 2010. This image courtesy of Rocco Pop Revolution. We are on the verge of a cultural revolution where the UK and the USA forge tighter bonds and better blending of cultures.

PALM TREE WISDOM, COCOANUT GROVE, OSCARS HISTORY 1930′s FOR G20 ECONOMIES WORLD LEADERS

In Oscars Hollywood history, the Cocoanut Grove was the venue celebrating Americans much loved art form of Hollywood’s cinema’s best awards for excellence.

From this image we see a Palm Tree as a symbol of Peace. Whether a palm is found in California, throughout The South Pacific, in Israel or Iran provides a message for us all to ponder as a symbol.

A palm tree grows peacefully in earth’s soil, irrespective of how people draw up maps of territory. Its a very humble tree. It just grows. Its leaves offer shade in extreme heat conditions for people and camels alike. It always signifies that water is found nearby, water being a symbol of life that all growing things need to live. A palm tree’s fruit is eaten by people of Californian, people in Iran or Israel alike. A palm tree does not discriminate. It looks after people equally.

May leaders of the world (G20 Economies Summit leaders included) all have a movie date with Peace, in their hearts concerning the future direction of the world and showing mercy to others, not all that different from ourselves.

This is California’s story in the City of Angels. We are peace messengers in The City of Angels–just like a palm tree is. May the art of peace be the most glorified American art of all and bring forth its fruit in due season.

I think an emphasis on water systems watering people who don’t have it in the world with clean drinking water, would be an intelligent thing of G20 leaders to obsess on at this point in World History. With the existing wealth all G-20 Summit leaders nations have, let’s leak some water these nations way who are without.

That’s smart leadership. Instead of just “World Economy, War Economy,” as buzz words, let’s think “Water Economy” too for all people in the world. A war on lack for the least in the world is what’s needed. That’s true power, to think that way and shows respect for basic human rights in the world.

Its in the papers, its on the tv, its everywhere that I go
Children are crying
Soldiers are dying
Some people don’t have a home
But I know there’s sunshine behind that rain
I know there’s good times behind that pain, hey
Can you tell me how I can make a change
I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and pray
I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and pray

I lose my appetite, knowing kids starve tonight
Am I a sinner, cause my dinner is still on my plate
Ooo I got a vision, to make a difference
And its starting today

Cause I know there’s sunshine behind that rain
I know there’s good times behind that pain, hey

Heaven tell me how I can make a change
I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and pray
I close my eyes and I can see a better day

I close my eyes and pray
For the broken-hearted
I pray for the life not started
I pray for all the ones not breathing
I pray for all the souls in need.
I pray. Can you give em one today.
I just cant sleep tonight
Can someone tell how to make a change?

I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and pray
I close my eyes and I can see a better day
I close my eyes and I pray

I pray …

I close my eyes and pray

ENDS.

SID LIUFAU COMMENTS ON POLYNESIAN ACTORS IN HOLLYWOOD FILMS

This comment was left by brotha Sid Liufau today on the blog. Well worth sharing are his thoughts on Polynesia actors in Hollywood. Sid writes:

“Polynesians, understanding starring roles in any film capacity are hard to come by and as a proud Polynesian who knows all to well the harsh competition not only as a minority, but minority of minorities in the profession not to mention lead roles not sought by a minority which even lessens our chances.

But as a confident Polynesian actor, don’t underestimate our Polynesian natural talents that can’t be denied. Learning the profession soon we can tell our own Island stories someday professionaly that can be universally understood.

We just need to be in the position to be taken serious!”

Me: Word! Sic currently stars with Dwayne Johnson in Faster at the box office this weekend. Go see him.
