No. These two are not discussing the latest funnies on the ICanHasCheeseburger Blog! This is an official ambassador visit photo. Prince Harry shares a smile with German actress Sophia Thomalla at the charity gala ‘Ein Herz fuer Kinder’ in Berlin, Germany. Amongst chatting up hot blondes, Harry was on his first official visit to Germany where The Bernauer Strasse Wall Memorial was a place where the Prince laid a wreath on a restored section of Berlin’s former East-West border, including the Wall and the area behind it known as the ‘death strip’ where many died trying to escape back in the day before U2 sung and the wall came tumbling down. JOHNNY DEPP AND ANGELINA JOLIE LEAD GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS

World News: Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck say they’re touched and honored to be nominated for several Golden Globe awards for their film The Tourist in the best picture, best musical comedy actor and actress.

Depp, also earned a nod for Alice in Wonderland said he was”very touched” by the double nomination.

Jolie said to be nominated was an honor, then with humor added “we were laughing because it’s the first time that I’ve been in the comedic category so it’s new for me.”

German director von Donnersmarck said he was happy with the nomination for “The Tourist,” his second film, which opened in the U.S. last week to generally poor reviews.

Not to worry, in tough times, people like to take down the big guns. It makes them feel better. Outside of the US, it will be a different story for this film, no doubt.

PRAY FOR SAMUEL KOCH OF GERMANY’S WETTEN DAS GAME SHOW, A VICTIM OF PARALYSIS IN THE NAME OF FUN TURNED NASTY

According to New York City’s Mickey K, the world is advised by Justin Bieber to pray for a Samuel Koch on young Justin Bieber’s twitter feed. This news is so twitter-disturbia inducing news, that it makes me want to listen to some music by the Grecian-Canadian artist Ko Kapches, just so I can get through reading this news.

Justin was scheduled to perform on the popular German game show Wetten Dass. However, contestant Samuel Koch had a nasty accident with a motor vehicle in a scheduled game to entertain (namely a car driving straight at him) which has resulted in the doctor treating Koch saying to media that the prognosis of young Samuel is: “spinal chord damaged, injuries to neck vertebrae with slight paralysis evident. He is still talking though.”

Injuries are believed to be “not serious.” Sounds excrutiating to me, just the post traumatic stress disorder of this unexpected accident–no matter what this ‘hush hush puppies’ doctor says. It makes me think of every single soldier whose been injured in war ever, or every person trapped in mines, injured or who even died in these two arena’s of global life at the moment. Samuel’s footage of injury we get to actually see. Ouch. We feel it, we resonate with it. Pain and injuries are real, they are shocking–they are not cool.

REESE WITHERSPOON IN LIKE WATER FOR ELEPHANTS HEATS UP ROBERT PATTINSON’S FIRST OSCAR NOMINATIONS HOPES

Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson start their movie publicity for Water for Elephants via Germany of all places. It is the nation with the strongest dollar in the world right now, so maybe that’s a smart move on the Hollywood chess board.

They look good together. Cougar chemistry from Reesey.

Water for Elephants is the film based on the book, of when a veterinary student joins the circus and undergoes an internship of the heart while a locum.  Surreal setting, like a Britney Spears concert with the potential to make $200 million plus. Spears has already proven a circus theme sells tickets.

Will this be Pattinson’s first Oscar nominated role? With a royal wedding from the UK about to be the most watched event on the planet this decade next year, for Pattinson, this has to be his debut Oscar nominated performance. It has to be Robbo’s Oscar momento, simply because the global pop cultural landscape–would have moved slightly more the UK’s way after Will and Kate’s wedding. To not include Pattinson in an Oscar line up of leading lads following next year–will make the Oscars look irrelevant.

Nice of Reese to help Pattinson out with her proven Oscar glow. No stars are born stars alone, they are made as well. This pairing is one such example. Britain and the American South–not a bad combo! With elephants from Africa and India, I wonder if there will be Russian Smokey The Bears too in this circus movie or White Chinese water tigers as well. Expect this to be a cinematic zoo of color and show biz lights underneath a big top circus tent. Two A-Listed trapeze stars, on top of the world – who walk the line. Hot.

US MEDIA ASK IS THERE LOST TRUST IN THE USA OVER WASHINGTON-WIKI LEAKS SCANDAL?

Whose bad? Julian Assange apparently is so bad.–image via AP

The question on the table today via the Global Media is: has the world lost trust over the USA’s Washington-Wikileaks scandal that reads like a tabloid of US gossip concerning major world leaders – or was the trust lost already by the George W. Bush‘s reign of US politics, war mismanagement and the over-eager depletion of the US economy? A few leaked docs/ cable transcripts – are hardly going to tarnish America’s trust record.

The asset-bubble spill over effects that global leaders in the world rightly say America is responsible for contributing into the global economy with a draw down of $600 billion–is this the cause of lost trust for the USA that the media are referring to? That shocking information was announced, straight up – straight to cam, not leaked. And now, a future for the world, facing North Korea and Iran’s nuclear missile’s management concerns–can the world still trust America to lead? Of course we can–even after we know how America really feels about the world. Why does that change anything?

And although Afghanistan is not the focus right now and unexpectedly honest confessions are, in the form of leaked security documents–isn’t the North Korea/ Iran issue more prevalent, then ‘who let the cat out of the bag with US diplomatic relations?’ With a view not to judge, in a group of people, such descriptions are kinda normal. Why the big fuss?

Anyway, here’s what news outlets are reporting today as I observe from Hollywood.

U.S Natonal security has been “severely damaged.” Republican Senator Lindsey Graham says: “We’re at war … [and] the world is getting more dangerous by the day”–reports CBC Canada

“Shocked. Shocked. Shocked” is what Judith Miller says the US is after reading Russia’s Vladimir Putin being described as an “Alpha Dog” (more…)

G-20 LEADERS CALL FOR A NEW CURRENCY OTHER THAN THE US DOLLAR – FIVE THINGS ABOUT PRESIDENT OBAMA’S LEMON SQUEEZED ECONOMIC OUTLOOKS – 11.12.10

Alright. I’ve been putting this post off for about five days now, because I’m all about supporting leaders, not knocking them. However this requires a word.

I am aware that I have lived in America over double the time that President Barack Obama has been the 44th President of the United States, so I will try and be lenient regarding other peoples comments on his economic policies. It matters neither way to me, as I can’t vote, but here’s the economic forecast:

Germany’s view on America economics via Bloomberg News:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, addressing a business audience in Berlin today, said she told Obama in a phone call that cutting government debt is “absolutely important for us.” She adds: “If we don’t get onto a path of sustainable economic growth but have rather a growth bubble, then if the next crisis comes we won’t be able to pay for it.”

South Korea calls Obama out on his dodgy economic policies as diagnosed by America’s own first Sewell Chan, Sheryl Gay Stolberg and David E. Sanger of Reuters for The New York Times via Mercury News:

“SEOUL, South Korea — President Barack Obama’s hopes of emerging from his Asia trip with the twin victories of a free-trade agreement with South Korea and a unified approach to spurring global economic growth ran into resistance on all fronts Thursday, putting Obama at odds with his key allies and largest trading partners.

The most concrete trophy expected to emerge from the trip eluded his grasp: a long-delayed free trade agreement with South Korea, first negotiated by the Bush administration and then reopened by Obama, to have greater protections for U.S. workers.

HIP HOP ART HOUSE CINEMA by KANYE WEST, AUTEUR and SELITA EBANKS with RUNAWAY

Artists of the world, will always respond to an auteur. The Arts are always created when we cross cultures, to the center and push back in creative response. In this moment, we are the center of the world’s pop culture creation too as artists. We are creating the future by speaking back in response to the present in expression with our unique worldviews and artistic reo (voices) and vision too. Let’s go Maori and Polynesian filmmakers, musicians, artists and entertainersHoriwood

Who: Kanye West

What: Hip Hop Art House Cinema as a new genre of filmmaking.

Title Work: Runaway, a short film

Duration: 34 mins, 32 secs aprox.

Starring: Selita EBanks and Kanye West

Key Themes: A commentary on America’s nationhood, in Kanye’s lifetime. The rise and fall and what is the rise back up again of the USA. Decadence fused with decay of empire.

The Michael Jackson death of the King of Pop reference, is both respectful and a little spooky in the form of a military like national guard parade, and a blown up head of MJ. The golden phoenix references are powerful. Selita Ebanks is pure art in this role. Naive, beautiful, out of place, learning of a new world–a metaphor of a nation rebuilding, and representing a younger generation in it–as also reflected in a gaggle of strong, youthful ballet-swans, depicted as youthful potential turned statues with their economic? wings ripped off by resulting circumstances of unwise political/ banking leaders of the past. Selita plays the role, of someone being introduced to America now as shown by Kanye, an auteur. She asks: how is it possible to be authentic and survive in your world, when most are cast in stone of economics/ current politics?

Perhaps indicating, patriarchal culture, Kanye’s response is: just stay with me anyway and make love to me. An interesting political commentary, when no one really has an answer to this question Selita posits.

Anyway, it’s a little weird for me, but I love the fact that Kanye has created the Hip Hop Musical, Art House short film genre of cinema. Not enough can be written about that. It’s revolutionary in African-American cinema that he’s done this. Creative plus!!!

Enjoy. And in honor of Taika Cohen‘s artistic filmmaking abilities – who could do the same, for Maori down under, I post this Korowai cloak, as a challenge (or take in Maori) to pick up in future years and do the same as an artist. Maori Art House Cinema, let’s go, thinking outside of commercial, Hollywood narrative structures too – into more artistic expression of Maori cinematic arts. Artists should always respond across cultures to other artists. It’s cultural manners and is also what true artists are about if we hail from centuries-old traditions of artists – which we do as Maori. Any culture with authentic artist will respond from their nation as global artists.

As Maori we are not passive. American culture is boring if it’s monologue. What we need is dialogue for US culture to even be relevant in our Maori mix at all. We don’t just consume from America, we speak back like mature adults, and put our own spin on our own future – as teachers (not children) of America too. So, where’s our film texts (musicals on cinema, please).

Who in New Zealand wants to respond to this, in cinema? I ask. Taika is a good start, with Awanui Reader writing the film’s score and starring in the lead. Ainsley Gardiner, an award winning film producer and Oscar nominated producer, as producer of such a project, showing the strength of good female leadership from New Zealand – would be hot.

But let’s get back to Kanye West’s brilliance and budget spend here. His interweaving on a sound sonic-scape with international accents (German and European) as well as importing the class of Rihanna ‘s hip hop and r n’b proven sound globally via Barbados of the Commonwealth (UK tributes and associations) show’s an American artist seeking cross-cultural ties and connections with a place for Americans in the world. Amidst the American ego–that his nation expects in their pop culture to fuel their own sense of identity, Kanye shows humility too for other nations cultures he’s learned and gleaned from as one of the 30% of Americans who have traveled outside of US borders and dared to be an American minority in another nation’s cultural life–and position himself as a student of the world. I like it that he has and it reflects in this film, from what he’s borrowed and interwoven into his art.

In particular, Kanye uses the elements a lot, of the sky. Perhaps indicating a future where, manipulating the earth’s elements (whether in visual depiction via news footage) or for real, will be common. An oil spill, was the last example of this we witnessed by a multi-national corporation in Mexico’s gulf for example. Oil from depth in the earth’s crust became vapor that filled the sky like a column of smoke. The world had never seen that before, as elements burned from the sea.

Kanye’s film is a version of a vision of America today. Powerful as art and social commentary. He raises the bar of hip hop artists and most music artists too, with this contribution. It’s his version, of “I am King” of pop culture and the arts eg: Muhammad Ali via cinema. Or, his version of “Presidential vision” or “if I was President” in that The Thompson Twins 80′s kinda statement way. Smile America. It does get better, is what West says here. :)

CLOSET MARXISTS, WAR REINACTING, GERMANY’S FRUSTRATION WITH MUSLIMS COCOONING CULTURALLY, AND CHRISTINE O’DONNELL’S ROLE AS THE COURT JESTER IN A SHAKESPEAREAN STRUCTURED POLITICAL PLAY

War reinacting is a topic that has trended this year. Josh Marshall wants to know what causes a group of people to reinact past wars, when he states: “We’ve seen some controversies this year with war reenacting. There’s Nazi reenacting; the much more ubiquitous cult of Civil War reenacting.” He also asks: “I’m curious which eras of conflict do draw a reenacting crowd and which ones it occurs to no one ever to relive. My hunch is that the phenomenon covers a relatively narrow band of time in which regularized uniforms and small arms played key roles.”

On the Talking Points Memo blog, here’s what’s rating with political news watchers:

  • Two Of Four Trapped Ecuadorian Miners Found Dead
  • Germany’s Merkel: ‘Multicultural Society’ Has Failed
  • Obama Stumps For Chris Coons In Delaware
  • Leave It To Beaver‘s Barbara Billingsley Dies
  • Rum Tax Sparks Row Between Puerto Rico And Virgin Islands
  • FL-SEN Candidates Spar Over Social Security In Three-Way Debate
  • ‘Sexting’ Former DA Charged By Wisconsin DOJ, Sued By Victim
  • Rasmussen Poll: Dem Leading Tancredo By Just 4 In CO-GOV
  • Reports: Search For ‘Lake Pirates’ Victim Suspended
  • Poll: Dem Manchin Leads By 10 Points In WV-SEN
  • In German politics, we have one party taking umbridge to the 4 million muslims who live in Germany, saying they have not integrated into German society. On the other hand an economic view of Germany looks at German migration vs skilled workers deficit when these thoughts are stated: “For a few years, more people have been leaving our country than entering it,” Labor Minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung. “Wherever it is possible, we must lower the entry hurdles for those who bring the country forward. We are 400,000 skilled workers short in Germany.”

I watch what Germany has to say, because they have the strongest economy in the world. (more…)

HUMOR – K2 MAORI COMPANY FOR THE TROOPS IN AFGHANISTAN

Maori soldiers have been super guys and heroes for centuries: A soldiers life, is a life, only another soldier and their friends and military families really knows.

Here’s K2 Maori company singing Hoki Mai and Pa Mai, two Maori classics, that were written for World War II Maori soldiers returning after defeating Hilter and Nazi Germany back in the day.

These two songs are still sung by every Maori school kid and horis the world over. We sing it, for the uncles, grandfathers we lost in celebration of what they gave the world as Maori men, who stood against racism.

There are only 300,000 Maori men in the world. They still choose to fight and put their lives on the line, to make a political point. This one going up, from West Hollywood, to the troops serving in Afghanistan. This is how Maori lads roll, in the NZ army anyways. They don’t hold a rugby football at home in front of internationally beamed cameras, but they’re our boys too.

They don’t imitate Lady Gaga like muppets- they all perform together, with group singing – harmony of the collective defines how they roll in the army, not individualism, which gets people killed at war. Cheers ears. :)

To Joe. Thanks for the request for “more Maori entertainment, plz. Like, K2 Maori company.”

You’re welcome, with special thanks to my K2 hori brothas, protecting Aotearoa/ NZ and the world. And still remembering to smile and sing too.  ICU. Thanks for the request. Now world famous from West Hollywood too. Mauri Ora.  Life to us!

[This performance recorded in Bosnia where Angelina Jolie is directing her very first movie, "Untitled War Love Story."

[Russell Crowe's Maori star, Hollywood walk of fame, The Te Ika-A-Maui version, for K2 Company today].

STAR DJ’S UNITE TO RECORD REMEMBRANCE SONG FOR LOVE PARADE

After 21 people died after panic broke out at Love Parade Germany’s festivities this year, Sean Michaels has this report:

“Some of the world’s top DJs have announced a new collaboration dedicated to the victims of this year’s Love Parade tragedy. Paul Oakenfold, Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk have recorded a new song, Remember Love, with proceeds going to those affected by the stampede in Duisburg, Germany.

”I think this is the first time this has ever been done in the dance scene, to give back, to help people,” Oakenfold said. “In many other music genres, artists come together, like Live Aid and after the Haiti disaster. We should do something [too].”

And they have. That’s the spirit.

HOLLYWOOD ACTOR CLIFF CURTIS HAS COURAGE TO LOVE, A NOVEL BY ROBERT ELLIS

Hollywood Actor Cliff Curtis has Courage To Love the Middle East

Hollywood actor and film producer, Cliff Curtis holds his early edition copy of Courage To Love, the new Romeo & Juliet novel by author Robert Ellis. The modern story of forbidden love that is set in Israel and the Gaza strip, is getting good early buzz in Hollywood. Curtis describes the book as being “beautiful.”

Of this pivotal novel, Curtis features here in his hand, filmmaker Bill Birrell says: “I have been looking for a human scale story about the Middle East: but one that will both entertain and provoke. In short I believe Courage to Love is it. Not since Elie Wiesel, the Nobel prize-winning writer, has an author distilled these conflicts into such human terms.  Put another way, while the story touches on significant issues, it is really a tale of two young people and their struggle to be allowed to love each other.”

Cliff, a newly wed himself, is all about love these days and furthering love’s potential in a world wind epic romance he finds himself caught up in, in his real life. His Hollywood career also has elevation. Curtis currently stars as Firelord Orzai in M. Night Shyamalan‘s 3D film franchise, The Last Airbender and has just signed on to two films starring opposite, Zoe Saldana (of Star Trek and Avatar film franchises fame) where he’s cast as Zoe’s closest family member. Coming up, Curtis will also star with Sigourney Weaver and Bruce Willis

LEGAL ANGEL FRATERNITY starring ROBERT SHAPIRO for LINDSAY LOHAN

Hollywood Knights are real men. They come in all forms. In this case, Robert Shapiro plays stand in father, lawyer, sobriety coach and publicist, for the 12th most googled woman of America, troubled young Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan.  Lindsay is currently staying at Shapiro’s home to avoid the paparazzi blitz and to have a safe haven for her court-imposed sobriety.

It has to be said, that as a Knight in shining armor for Hollywood’s younger generation, Shapiro rocks.

He tells UsWeekly that LiLo will start serving her 90-day jail sentence on Tuesday morning. Robert says: ”I have agreed to represent Ms. Lohan on the condition that she complies with all of the terms of her probation, including a requirement of jail time that was imposed by Judge Marsha Revel. Ms. Lohan is suffering from a disease that I am all too familiar with (Shapiro makes reference to the fact that his son sadly died of a drug overdose in 2005). Hopefully, I can be of assistance to Ms. Lohan and Judge Revel in implementing a treatment approach recommended by medical professionals for Ms. Lohan’s long term recovery and sobriety.”

Taking Lohan’s situation from that of ‘Hollywood bad girl of gossip tabloids’ to the medical arena, makes the issue so much more humane. I like his style, already. Smart.

[Lindsay is pictured here, on Malibu beach, being photographed for German GQ. She's a busy girl, despite her troubles locally in L.A. Internationally she's adored abroad as an icon of Hollywood glamour and entertainment]. It’s actually a humane feeling, seeing Lindsay for the first time in two decades, actually being given a decent chance, that’s really about her. Nice one, Mr Shapiro. And… Go kid! A winning Hollywood combo.

INCEPTION starring LEONARDO DICAPRIO because THE BATTLEGROUND IS IN OUR MIND

Melissa Noble is doing way too many hot things on her blog today, so she gets yet another mention today here in Hollywood. Say’s Ms Noble, of this poster featuring Leonardo Di Caprio in his upcoming sci-fi flick  Inception –July 11th, opener.

“According to IMDB, Inception’s plot: “In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a single idea within one’s mind can be the most dangerous weapon or the most valuable asset.”

This thought is really sobering. One day–someone emailed me to say “why don’t you start a blog.” In that moment I did, I believed I was a blogger and all of a sudden I was busting out Perez Hilton Arianna Huffington stylez … aka techonologized into a geek–drinking way too many starbucks coffee a day, and losing all my social skills as the hours wizzed by. For that–I have no regrets, because the joy of blogging was the gift –this friend gave me.

I think what Melissa is referring to above of “a single idea in one’s mind, can be the most dangerous weapon or the most valuable asset, ” is that whole Cities, nations even, can be built on a lie. ” I once read a book by a guy named Francis Frangipane (no he’s not Hawaiian, he’s actually Italian American], who posits that whole kingdoms can be built on a single lie in one person’s mind. He was totally scary to read, because like Leo in this film, Francis is just so full on. He has no qualms, that people have lies in their head that need extracting. That’s one scary (good) dude, for even having the balls to write and verbalize that.

For want of an example we can all relate to (and with no offense to the German people) “Adolph Hitler” once built Germany on a single lie (that Jews were inferior to Germans and black people, people of color).

We all know that horror story of World War II! (more…)

CLAUDIA SCHIFFER IS PREGGERS ON GERMAN VOUGE

Germany has the strongest currency in the world. Through careful budgeting and living within its means. So much so, that they were able to help bail Greece’s economy out this week, by loaning some of their economic strength in the form of loans.

Germany today, is birthing a new generation of Greek children to have a better future. With that in mind, a pregnant German fashion icon, Claudia Shiffer poses on the cover of German Vogue. Schiffer, 39, who announced her pregnancy in January, is expecting a baby girl with husband, director Matthew Vaughn, in May. The couple are already parents to Caspar, 7, and Clementine, 5.

I guess the point of this post today is… for modern Germany, to be economically strong, means to give life and second chances to others in need is en vogue. Hot!

Today, Germany as a nation–along with the U.S are model citizens of the world.

GERMAN BASKETBALL: MICHAEL K COVERS JUSTIN BIEBER INTERVIEW IN NEW ZEALAND

True fact time: The German dollar is the strongest in the world. Justin Bieber doesn’t seem to know this, yet.

The thing I love about blogging and being a part of a blogging community of people much more talented than myself at celebrity blogging–is that someone from New York City, is going to do a funny New Zealand story, that you read about in Hollywood.

That person is Michael K of DListed.Com who did a cute story about Justin Bieber denying that his name means “basketball” in German–when asked by an interviewer in New Zealand. Justin said he didn’t know if that was the case, by saying “we don’t say that in America.”

First up, in America we need to say the words “let’s all make like Germany” a bit more often than we do to strengthen the U.S economy. Secondly, basketball is President Obama’s favorite sport–so Justin should own any connection to a b-ball that he can. Thirdly, Justin is from Canada and not America, but the royal “we” was cute. Fourthly–there’s nothing wrong with having a German last name… this kid should own it and be proud. Fifthly–does Justin even realize how kind-hearted it is for a grown New Zealand rugby football-following man in his 20′s to even wear a Justin Bieber tee shirt?

Alright… this kid needs a father asap, to teach him a thing or ten about the world. And I think Michael K would be the perfect man for that job!

Jokes aside, isn’t it amazing that Justin has the #1 album in both America and Canada? Incredible.

According to the Toronoto Sun, Justin is the big draw performer, along with Katy Perry at the upcoming Much Music Awards, where Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Sean Diddy Combs will present awards and Christina Arguilera will be performing live. Hot! And, the incomparable Miley Cyrus will be hosting. Good to see Tom Cruise, father of three doing the Awards Show circuit again.
