PEOPLE WHO JUST GOT COOLER THIS CHRISTMAS
THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – WED 12.22.10
Zara Phillips and rugby football player Mark Tindall of the UK are engaged. Hollywood entertainment and celebrity news voted worldwide in our top ten (with bonus posts for the holidays) looks as follows. No. 1 is my favorite today with ‘heroine addict’ rumors having swirled through celebrity circles and in Hollywood the last two days. Ugh! So boring, if you live here. Yet another reminder how important it is perhaps, to be careful with our words. Congrats to the two stars pictured of the second royal wedding on the social calendar of 2011.

Bonus Post: ENTERTAINMENT AND WORLD NEWS THIS CHRISTMAS – 12.21.10
In the spirit of sharing, click on these bloggers in between our bonus posts and say hi. Many of them work harder than I do all year round turning on an entertainment show as website writers and or bloggers. Let’s make Christmas happen for these girls and guys too, if we can. My only claim to fame is that by virtue of location living in Hollywood means that what is on Horiwood.Com is seen as being more credible at times then these hardworking people. I think that’s fair as to survive Hollywood–you have to be ten times tougher than bloggers who don’t live here. It’s part of earning your fame cred in the City of Angels, but with it comes a thorough understanding of the ‘unspoken Hollywood rules of fame.’ It really can’t be learned any other way than living here. A tough school I am thankful to almost have graduated from. To everyone whose ever supported me here in seen and many unseen ways that I have felt, thank you so much for making a Maori’s dream that I never once grew up dreaming, but fortuitously fell into by grace of opportunity, come true. :)
For celebrity bloggers who don’t live in Hollywood, know that all opinions aired and shared have validity in a democratic society of equal people, so let’s support such bloggers too, aye if we have the time and feel like it?! Thanks team. Any celebrity blogger who does charity posts and shines a light on the defenseless, the unheard, the misrepresented, the needy, the poor–will always be a star in my book in that moment they turn their light on such people, just like us. Only creative people have this ability to influence others for the good, which is why I’m affirming their energy and efforts today as stars in the world of entertainment. Alright, on with the show then. :)

MELINDA GATES, WARREN BUFFET, TED TURNER AND BILL GATES ARE BILLIONAIRE PHILANTHROPIST NICE GUYS
If you’re wealthy, you might want to skip this post. I’m kidding.
Bill Gates and Warren Buffet announced The Giving Pledge a while back. It’s a charitable trust, that gives people of wealth the opportunity to be relieved of it–and act like ‘real’ people or like the majority of the world.
The trust urges wealthy citizens to give the bulk of their wealth to the trust for others in need. ABC’s Christiane Amanpour recently interviews Warren and Bill and Melinda Gates about their start up role as leaders of the trust. Ted Turner is also following suit.
This is certainly an opportunity to make a difference in the world now when it’s most needed. It also observes the principle that if you give, you get back. The rise of the billionaire philanthropist as a super hero of the world–is a miracle of the heart, I think. These guys and girls are all so admiral who are in this trust. Fearless. Rock on!
Watch these stars here for pure inspiration. Mr Buffet maintains that the current tax breaks for the rich of America have not worked for US society for a decade now. I have noticed that the people who like Warren Buffet as a celebrity are all good people, pretty much. They have fun but try and be frugal too where they can.
Not that ‘that last paragraph’ is a recommend to give half your wealth away. However, in the video link above, The Giving Pledge believe they can raise $600 billion from partners who join them to do the same thing. That’s amazing, it’s like the entire amount of the recent US draw down from the Fed.
Love it. Positive and proactive leadership.

JENNIFER HUDSON SINGS WITH A GOOD HEART
Jennifer Hudson was spotted singing in NYC last night, for the Happy Hearts Fund Event.
Nice!
Anyone doing something for others in need is even more pivotal this year than any other year in US history since the 1930′s. Go J-Hud!
The Happy Hearts Fund’s mission is “to improve children’s lives through educational and sustainable programs in natural disaster areas.”
I dig. Do you? If you’ve ever heard J-Hud sing live like I was fortunate enough to here in Los Angeles, the girl seriously moves octaves and mountains with a spirit of hope when she sings. Let’s hope she does for kids of the world needing her, after this performance.

ROMAN POLANSKI’S RAPE VICTIM, SAMANTHA GEIMER TALKS TO LARRY KING
Talking to Larry King, Samantha Geimer – the women who was raped by filmmaker Roman Polanski at aged 13 had these things to say:
Geimer is: a) not forgiving of him. b) thinks Polanski has served his time. c) thinks she’s been more damaged by the court system and the media than what Polanski did to her at 13.
Three different perspectives presented in a simple answer. A wise lady. Video clip at this link. R.A.I.N.N is also an organisation that helps American teens who have and are being raped. Adults too. THE TREVOR PROJECT – SUPPORTING TEENS TO IGNORE SUICIDE’S FAKE ALLURE AND TO LOVE GROWING OLD IN THEIR AMERICAN SKIN
Sometimes, we need some basic courage to love to grow old – in whatever skin you’re given. Teens especially.
Gay teens are a hot topic of debate in regards to five teen suicide deaths getting high profile media coverage at time of writing from the U.S. All five teens who tragically took their lives – were listed as being gay.
To help fight this slaughter, of an invisible enemy, that suicide is – the featured charity of the day is The Trevor Project. Its memorandum to exist is especially to support teens past that bump of suicidal tendancies.
I write this as a New Zealand member of the Foreign Press, accutely aware of suicide and youth. (more…)

DOMESTIC ABUSE, CA – REMEMBERING CATALINA TORRES OF MARTINEZ
One for the Martinez Community and Torres Family: Two years ago, a part time volunteer at a domestic abuse shelter, was shot dead while she was leaving her beauty salon, while protecting a woman at the salon, from her client’s estranged husband.
Catalina Torres died along with the police officer on the scene, Sergeant Paul Starzyck. As this blog started, shortly after pop star Rihanna‘s domestic abuse ordeal in Hollywood, this 9-11 here’s some quotes for Torres and Starzyck of Martinez city.
On Torres: “She had a spirit for truth, she had a spirit for justice and she stood up for the defenseless,” said Noe Patricio Torres, Catalina’s brother.
On Starzyck: “We are here to recognize the ultimate sacrifice of Sergeant Paul Starzyk as he responded to the call of duty,” said Martinez Police Chief Tom Simonetti.
Starzyck was buried September 11th 2008, and Torres the next day. Out of tragedy always comes the promise of hope for others. May women who fight terror at home silently, not be forgotten today either.
A year prior to Catalina being killed, her sister Eustacio Torres was shot by a lover after joint property investments, could not handle a declining market and the couple had fought for months. Tragic. Read about that here on a youth blog.
Martinez is an East coast town of California (39,000), near Chittenden. As economic pressures accelerate domestic violence eruptions in many couples lives, click on the doves below, to see what we can perhaps do to help.

COURAGE TO LOVE OKLAHOMA CITY’S HOMELESS
Words from Hollywood via Oklahoma’s William Hock today: “Homelessness is about being invisible in the eyes of those who have.”
“Today we are seeing more mothers with young children and more mentally ill. We also find more people are one step away from homelessness, living paycheck to paycheck. Contrary to the reported approximately 1,000 homeless in Oklahoma City, over the last 12 months the mission served more than 2,500 new homeless individuals. From July 2009 through June 2010, the mission provided 159,176 bed nights, an average of nearly 450 homeless men, women and children per night. In addition to beds, the mission provides meals, job training, mental health, drug and alcohol counseling, legal, medical and dental assistance and many more services — all at a cost of only $22.40 per person per day.–writes Will Hock of Oklahoma in an article titled, In Defense of the Defenseless.
Featured Charity Spotlight today on Horiwood.Com are organizations, whose workers directly help, serve into, and make a difference to the homeless of Oklahoma City. Three organizations, (including Paul’s), are listed below for you to take a tour (with your wife too, why not?) and speak into precious lives of homeless people in Oklahoma today. Thank you.
1. The Homeless Alliance – Oklahoma City, OK
2. Hope House of Cherokee County, Tahlekah OK, (no website). Ph no. 918-456-4673; via Artists Helping Children.Org
3. Services for the Homeless Mentally Ill, Pryor OK
4. City Rescue Mission, 800 W California Ave, Oklahoma City OK
Homeless people are close to where God can be found, because if you believe in God, rationale thinking deduces that just like the homeless, God is ‘invisible’ too unless we collectively A.C.T.
For my atheists, who read this blog: Charities 1 & 3 above, have no religious affiliation whatsoever.
[Paul Hock is a former chairman of the American Bar Association's Commission on Homelessness & Poverty and current chair of the board for City Rescue Mission. He currantly doubles as a director at Crowe & Dunlevy law firm. Will Hock, has: received the Leadership in Law Award, The Journal Record (2006); Received the Oklahoma Bar Association's Public Service Award (2006); Listed in the Best Lawyers in America (Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law). WOW! A CATHOLIC PRIEST WHOSE NOT TOO SHY TO BE A MEDIA FASHION STAR TO BENEFIT OTHERS
Meet Father Andrew O’Connor. He nabs the cover of American Craft this month, with a hot story about putting a fashion media profile to good use, to give back to benefit others.
What a guy! Catholic’s can be quite shy people, so I love the fact that Andrew O’Conner, has the humility to go on record with all of his talents, to serve and think of others.
Stylish spirituality. Not bad. Go fellah! God bless the fearlessness of the American-Irish. They’re just too much!
Already I like new editor Monica Moses, good Catholic Tastes in cover story ideas already. And I’m not even Catholic. Go Ms Moses! Quircke haute!
For a good article on the question: “Does Catholic merchandising, trivialize the faith?” go here. And for a guidebook on what the Catholic charitable spirit looks like, with a list of their charities via Fordham Edu, here’s a whole book, where you can look up a charity that appeals to you, and make a difference through, just like Father O’Conner is, with his dual fashionably-minded and charitably conscious tape measure. How unique.

COMPASSION: DOES THE OWNER OF THE ANTI-SEMITISM WEBSITE NEED TO ASK WHAT אלוהים אהבה MEANS?
Alright. Today I see that the anti-semitism blog has listed Hollywood’s first ever Maori entertainment and celebrity blog as being anti-semitic.
This has happened because I posted an entertainment news article titled: Supermodel Kate Moss has Courage to Love Palestine. Kate had attended a Hoping Foundation charity event in London, benefitting innocent children in Palestine, caught up in the bullets of war. Innocent blood should always be protected, regardless of race, religion, or what global territory a child may find themselves in. For this reason, I applauded Kate, by reposting the article on this blog.
To my friends at the anti-semitism blog. I have these things to say:
a) I was born with a Jewish name, named after an American-footballer with the same name. This I have never wanted to change and am proud of. I was taught Jewish theology as a Maori kid.
b) The Maori of New Zealand lost sons, daughters, brothers, uncles, fathers fighting Hitler during the war. In fact, Maori are credited by the British as inventing trench warfare, the very war method, that allowed Britain and her allies with America, to defeat Hitler, thus helping to save Jews and us all. So culturally, history’s spilled blood of Maori like me, has never intentionally been anti-semitic either. It’s not how we roll.
c) Just because I care for an innocent Palestinian child’s well being just as much as a child across the border in Israel–does not make me black-listed worthy enough, or, Kate Moss either, for your false accusations on your blog.
So, to the owner of the anti-semitic website, consider that King Solomon (Israel’s wisest King in history with a rare gift of wisdom to see beyond difference) took time out from managing his busy kingdom, just to write his famous love sonnet for a Shulamite, an Arab woman–and I suggest you recapture some of this love in your heart of a legendary Jewish King. Hatred towards Arab people and Jews and any people on the earth, is not of God. And God out of the equation, it’s just not cool. Peace.
Shalom and Mauri Ora. On that note, go Kate Moss and Horiwood.Com for looking out for children, a future of World Peace and growing up in love. To the domain name ‘owner’ of the Anti-Semitism website… I forgive you, in advance. :)

THE PEARL OF PEACE STARRING THE NANNY
Tonight, Horiwood is thinking of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang by Julie Andrews. You know why! :) The catch phrase of the late Jack Palance comes to mind in this moment. Aloha.
If Peace is a string of pearls, made up of people living peacably from many nations with the thread of love running through us all, then we are all cast as the nanny of the world.
With that thought in mind, I am an All Black loving Ch Ch nanny, living in L.A. Thanks Julie for doing the best version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ever. Such a nice girl –a total classic really. xox.

I forget that Harrison Ford can fly. As in, real planes. Like, to Haiti.
Harrison Ford flew out medical supplies and 20 volunteers to Haiti from the Dominican Republic in his Cessna 208 Caravan plane. What a guy!
The medical mission was for Operation Smile to perform emergency surgeries for our Haitians of Hope. So cool, he flew the plane himself. Take that Angelina Jolie! :) But seriously, what a nice thing to do.

CHRISTMAS DIVORCEE CHEER FOR THE HOMELESSNESS SITUATION WITH ARIANA HUFFINGTON
[Arianna Huffington & Jesse Jackson and Diane von Furstenberg courtesy of guest of a guest]
First up, a happy Christmas Eve to all of these hardworking newsy entertainers this year: Instapundit; James Wolcott (Vanity Fair); John Ridley; Kausfiles (Slate); kottke.org; Left, Right and Center; The Moderate Voice; NDN Blog; The Notion (Nation); Oxdown Gazette; Pandagon; ABC; Access Hollywood; Al Jazeera; AOL News; Associated Press; BBC; Bloomberg; Boston Globe; C-SPAN; CBS; Chicago Sun-Times; Chicago Tribune; Christian Science Monitor; Center for Public Integrity; CNN; Congressional Quarterly; Daily Telegraph; Democracy Now!; Drudge Report; E! I was looking today at Arianna Huffington of that blog in New York City that is quite extensive in showcasing other peoples brainy thoughts all year round. It’s really entertaining this year observing how Ari has transformed herself into the Christmas Divorcee Santa’s little helper this year of The Big Apple. She just keeps on getting better as a blogger in that uptight Ari way. I like her Christmas a lot this year. Christmas time is a time where many people get divorced. Who knows why? Stress I guess. However I like Ari’s focus, that if you focus on families entirely worse off than your own, it just might help a lot to appreciate the family that you do have. Quite wise really.
Here’s her message, shared for the City of Los Angeles too this Christmas Eve:
Dear People,
“Merry Christmas. I’m back from Chile (Feliz Navidad) and Brazil (Feliz Natal), and celebrating with my daughters and my ex (see HuffPost Divorce) in New York. This year’s It’s A Wonderful Life Award goes to Gregory Schauer, the unemployed man who demonstrated the true Christmas spirit by taking in a homeless woman and her three children for the holidays. Remarkably, when we contacted Greg to tell him about all the people who had written in offering to help him, he told us: “Please let them know that the best thing they can do is pass it on so to speak. Instead of sending me anything, call a shelter, sponsor a family for Christmas, give to the food pantries, spread the spirit of Christmas to as many people as they can.” So, in Greg’s honor, please go to The Goods, our online store featuring goods and services for those in need, and make a purchase in Greg’s name* (My choice was to help pay the rent of a family in need).
*Before adding your selection to your cart, click the box that indicates you want your donation to be a gift, put down Greg Schauer as the recipient, and gregsholidaywish@gmail.com as the recipient’s email. We’ll make sure he gets your message.
Also check out these worthy bloggers too–if you get the time this Christmas: Funny or Die; George’s Bottom Line (George Stephanopoulos); Gothamist; Hotline On Call (National Journal); Hullabaloo; Informed Comment; NPR; Newsweek; People; Politico; ProPublica; Radar; Reuters; Rolling Stone; The Root; Salon; San Francisco Chronicle; Slate; TIME; Times Of London; TMZ; USA Today; Vanity Fair; Wall Street Journal; Washington Independent; Washington Times; Washington Post; Yahoo!
