The world’s youngest billionaire Dustin Moskovitz of Facebook co-founding fame, is not only worth $1.4 billion but he’s got heart and soul too. Moskovitz is ranked no 290 among America’s 400 richest people.
Bill Gates and Warren Buffett approached Dustin to partner with them on their Giving Pledge Charitable Trust, Dustin said “right on.”
The trust aims to create a herd instinct in order to get America’s wealthiest individuals and families to commit to give the majority of their fortune away.
Dustin is currently in love with journalist Cari Tuna and he mentions her in the letter he wrote dedicating his focus to the pledge. He writes: I‘m especially thankful to have found a partner in Cari who shares my priorities and commitment to this humbling work. Over the next few years, we will begin to identify the causes to which we can make the most leveraged contributions. We will donate and invest with both urgency and mindfulness, aiming to foster a safer, healthier and more economically empowered global community.
Very cool. Giving is relative. For example you may not have 1.4 billion dollars, but if you give til it hurts within your own capacity, you too are living this pledge. Dustin’s letter is a reminder that giving is a privilege and a humbling experience to be a part of making a difference in others lives.
Billionaire philanthropists are the new superheroes of the world. Simply because the times require such people to step into the gap of poverty and lead. Even if people with a billionaire profile weren’t giving a dollar in reality–letters like Dustin’s certainly incite us regular folk to all consider giving–and think of others too.
Such a letter engenders thoughtfulness towards community outside of individualistic acquisition tendencies that a capitalist culture would say is success. It’s nice to see guys like Dustin use his profile in such a powerful and positive way. I think leverage is key here.

I notice that a lot of you are looking for Jeffrey Lurie information today on Horiwood.Com. He’s ranked Forbes Magazine‘s #937 billionaire in the world. How did Jeffrey do it?
“Grandfather Philip Smith (d.1961) created family fortune with movie theater operator General Cinema, investments. After Ph.D. from Brandeis and teaching social policy at Boston University, grandson followed familial lead, starting Chestnut Hill Productions, made Foxfire (starring Angelina Jolie) and V.I. Warshawski (starring Kathleen Turner). Still has film company, Screen Pass Pictures, with wife, Christina.
Jeffrey had better success when he bought the Philadelphia Eagles football team. He bought the franchise in 1994 for $195 million. It is now worth $1.2 billion now.
That’s called a major touch down in the sporting and biz worlds. His wife is extremely patient with Jeffrey’s non-football like sense of balance and athleticism. An area for Jeffrie to improve on perhaps as he appears to be a little clumsy when he gets excited and hi-fives his support team during Eagles touch down moments as this video clip shows. That Christina is a saint!!!
He is the man who first backed Angelina Jolie in a film and turned her into a star in her own right.

Leaders that give bravely warm the hearts. They incite acts of goodness towards others, a nation emulates and accumulates.
Acts of goodness accumulated by good people willingly, will bear witness and shall protect a nation’s name.
Goodness can be likened to a protective-shield that seals and covers a nation from harm. Impending perilous forces, dissolve in its light.
A nation’s goodness and honor, protects a nation from harm. In unity of spirit and with good hearts, such people cannot be defeated.
Laughter is a sign that a leader is on the right track where goodness is. He or she leads towards happier days. Shine like the sun.

If you’re wealthy, you might want to skip this post. I’m kidding.
Bill Gates and Warren Buffet announced The Giving Pledge a while back. It’s a charitable trust, that gives people of wealth the opportunity to be relieved of it–and act like ‘real’ people or like the majority of the world.
The trust urges wealthy citizens to give the bulk of their wealth to the trust for others in need. ABC’s Christiane Amanpour recently interviews Warren and Bill and Melinda Gates about their start up role as leaders of the trust. Ted Turner is also following suit.
This is certainly an opportunity to make a difference in the world now when it’s most needed. It also observes the principle that if you give, you get back. The rise of the billionaire philanthropist as a super hero of the world–is a miracle of the heart, I think. These guys and girls are all so admiral who are in this trust. Fearless. Rock on!
Watch these stars here for pure inspiration. Mr Buffet maintains that the current tax breaks for the rich of America have not worked for US society for a decade now. I have noticed that the people who like Warren Buffet as a celebrity are all good people, pretty much. They have fun but try and be frugal too where they can.
Not that ‘that last paragraph’ is a recommend to give half your wealth away. However, in the video link above, The Giving Pledge believe they can raise $600 billion from partners who join them to do the same thing. That’s amazing, it’s like the entire amount of the recent US draw down from the Fed.
Love it. Positive and proactive leadership.

Although Madonna has signed a $160 million ten-year deal with concert promotors Live Nation, The Sun UK is reporting today that Madonna has just been offered a five year residency in Las Vegas, for a rumored $1 billion.
The logistics of this price tag offer are being debated all over the internet at the minute.
Good publicity rumors for Madonna today. She incites imagination for bullish American entertainment. And isn’t that what entertainment leaders do? They loan a face to an idea for all entertainers, that could be possible. What a benchmark setter, even if this is a rumor or truth.
I’m all for Madonna earning a billion bucks. Ciccone is always listed in the top three celebrities who give the most income to charity outside of Warren Buffet and Bill Gates‘ big league humanitarian club. She deserves a billion bucks. :)

When the recession hit in California, nigh on two years ago; it was obvious that the rise of the “billionaire philanthropist” was emerging in the world. The need is always the call.
Today, Cinematical is reporting that the Star Wars creator who casts Maoris in his films (woot!), George Lucas, is joining hands with The Giving Pledge organization. Conceived by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, the best feel good club to be in in the world, enlists billionaires who promise to give half of their wealth to charity.
Bill already gave 25 billion, because perhaps he wanted to know who half his friends really were. Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, T. Boone Pickens, are in the pack.
I also count Angelina Jolie as an honorary billionaire philanthropist, because how she chooses to use her image, name, reputation and spotlight for humanitarian causes, acting as the bait to incite others to do the same at every turn, (sharks always need a thrill) is right up there, transferring wealth into corners of the world where most needed, like no other star can.
Warren Buffet is leader of the pack, promising 99 billion of his wealth. Nice one George! A Star fighting wars of hunger, famine, homelessness and disparity indeed.

I’m sorry Chicago, but Ms Oprah Winfrey really is moving to California. She wasn’t bluffing.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Oprah has just hired Peter Adamson to manage her ‘family office’ and watch her money and investments portfolio. In California, Peter Adamson manages Eli and Edith Broad‘s money so that the Broad’s can continue doing artistic and philanthropic things for arts and culture in LA–in and around Hollywood’s movie culture.
It looks like Ms Winfrey is going to get a little bit more creative, in her role as a power producer of Hollywood films and TV Network producing in her next, Californian reincarnation. She’s freeing up her time, so its less money focused. Love it. And the philanthropic money management skills of Peter Adamson on board–prove that Oprah is heading in the same direction as the Broads. Think Oprah in the past–but on a much bigger philanthropic scale.
To check out what’s happening on the Broad Stage concerning music, jazz, live performance and the arts, here in LA… go here. It’s time that LA got a bit more artistically philanthropic. So this is exciting news. The past two years, a spirit of meanness, fear and stingyness has gripped this city. Good works incite more good works. So, hopefully Winfrey and the Broad’s will get a really good ping pong match going on between them–concerning artists support in the 2010′s.
Needless to say, anything that Oprah’s attached to when she hits Califor-NI-A–invest in those stocks. Here’s some retro Tupac–to celebrate in advance, the Oprah Effect on Hollywood. :)

Ivanka Trump and Queen Ranier of Jordon are so classy. With American finesse, Trump, the mogul-in-the-making attended the baby christening of Grace, 8, and Chloe Murdoch, 6, daughter of media mogul Rupert Murdoch and Wendi Deng.
The christening took place on the Jordan River which is believed to be the historic river where John The Baptist originally baptised his first cousin, Jesus Christ almost 2000 years ago.
Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman are the children’s godparents and Keith Urban also attended the event.
After the christening Queen Rania invited her guests on a three day tour of her country and told Hello! magazine, “I am happy to be sharing this land that I love with my friends. We’re a small country but we’re rich with history and culture… Our guests were blown away by the diversity and depth of what Jordan has to offer but, most of all, they told me they were taken in by the warmth and kindness of our people.”
What a beaut story from Jordan, Australia and America this Easter weekend. Scripted by billionaires to ensure their children have spiritual roots as well as capitalist ones, as they grow up. How civilized and wise. Love it.
I also like this post, because my nephew’s name is Jordan –he is a river of dance, life, joy, music, talent. His stage name is Jay-V and his last performance is as a dancer, in the music video for the current #1 song in New Zealand. That can be watched here. As his Uncle Sam I am extremely proud of him. His dreams are also tempered with a strong sense of spirituality, and like the Murdoch children of this story, he has spiritual frames of reference, built into his upbringing too. It’s the best way to go!

Face Book’s Mark Zuckerberg is 25 and worth $4 billion. The Harvard graduate harnessed the power of social networking, combining IT technology, developing a business that rests on the premise that telephone companies, can’t have all the money to link good people up with other good people, just to share information.
Blah blah on a telephones, exists only in someone’s memory once a verbal conversation has been had. s a result, blah blah is often sketchy, as there is never any accountability to it, once words have been spoken without a trace; so Zuckerberg added pics upload-ability plus copy/text ability… to rival phone companies’ modes of communication technology and give us every daylittle people, our 15 minutes of fame, via the business building block… of “a Face Book profile.”
Love this kid. He’s a good role model in these times for American youngsters to think big and dream bigger. Knowledge (and communicating knowledge) equals shared power. And on that note… whoever does “FaceSpace”, like for reals… is going to be onto a winner. :)
Props to Mark Zuckerberg today! [Pic courtesy of Forbes Magazine]

Mexico has a lot to teach us, here in America. This year Mexico, produced the #1 richest man in the world, Carlos Slim Helu. His fortune is made in telephones and mobile telephony networks mainly. People loved to talk to the ones they love, as life is about sharing the most meaningful moments, with the ones you love, so Helu is making bank, everytime someone yaps on a telephone.
Reports Yahoo News via Forbes magazine’s news feed: “Riding surging prices of his various telecom holdings, including giant mobile outfit America Movil (AMX), Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim Helu has beaten out Americans Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the wealthiest person on earth and nab the top spot on the 2010 Forbes list of the World’s Billionaires.
“Slim’s fortune has swelled to an estimated $53.5 billion, up $18.5 billion in 12 months. Shares of America Movil, of which Slim owns a $23 billion stake, were up 35% in a year.”
Bill Gates is only .5 of a billion behind Helu for the #1 spot.

What a guy! One of our favorite billionaire philanthropists, Bill Gates, with the help of his wife, Melinda Gates has just pledged ten billion dollars to provide vaccines for the world’s poorest people. 8 million people could benefit.
Let’s face it! The Gates are a mini-Telethon show… all of their own! That’s so awesome. How inspiring are they? Sooooooo inspiring! That’s 1 billion a year for the world’s poor. To get you have to give. These two are smart. Then to be a neighbor of the world… give some more. To be considered humane, give even more. These are the practical steps of loving the world. The Gates are just too cool for Hollywood school.
A ten year commitment to providing quality of life to others who most need it… is as good as it gets. Miracle workers walk among us in the US of A. May God continue to bless America! :)
This full report by the AP via Huff Po gives the details:
Giving to Haiti is like giving to Brazil for Madonna. She has a big heart to raise awareness with where America and the world needs to head next. Charity where it is most needed is just a part of Madonna’s worldview and lifestyle each year, all year round.
Friday night’s Hope for Haiti telethon event lead by George Clooney has a stellar line up of celebrities who are making a difference for the resilient people of Haiti.
Madonna has confirmed that she will perform also, joining Wyclef Jean, the gorgeous Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Jay-Z, Bono and The Edge in this world changing event. With more natural disasters on the horizon, due to global warming–this event is a good warm up exercise of how the world will mobilize in similar events to come in the years ahead. Island populations in particular are greatly at risk.
Rihanna is a star who will spend much of her life and career advocating for them all as the threat of tsunamis/ earthquakes increase in the future. Haiti is a test for the world, as to how well we can mobilize. Haiti is our future as humanitarian conscious global citizens caught up in a bad romance with global warming.

TIGER WOODS ALLEGED SEX TAPE SCANDAL. WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR TIGER WOODS NEW BUSINESS DIRECTION AND HIS CHILDREN?
TMZ is reporting that professional golfer, Tiger Woods, has a sex tape scandal on his hands.
Do we even care?
I’d much rather see video footage of Tiger Woods being a good father to his two children, being a friend to Elin Nordegren in that shared process of child raising… or winning a big golf tournament… rather than seeing Tiger romp around the bedroom with a mistress or 14, wouldn’t you?!
But in the Woods carefully managed empire, Times are a changin’. Why?
He’s got it all. Sir Richard Branson leads the field in comfortable air travel with Virgin Airlines. A billionaire who still knows how to entertain.
This one image, with Sir Richard kite skiing with a naked model, Denni Parkinson hanging on for dear life on his back, was just one reason why America loves this great British billionaire-entrepreneur and entertainer. Branson rates the 38th top star in Hollywood for 2009.
One simple premise makes this man. The premise that fun always sells.
You just know that Tiger Woods wants to be this man. :)
Actually… maybe not… the Huffington post reports that when this pic was being shot, “Branson’s wife and two grown children watched the shoot from the shore.”
Tiger doesn’t yet have the same brains or class as Sir Richard Branson but he’ll get there. Heading into 2010, Branson is hot.

Sometimes, because this blog is so Lady Gaga centric, with you lot and how you vote on this blog each day, I like to take a little break from pop stars, and look at other people who are the ‘real’ architects of business and entertainment in the world.
One such person is billionaire Jeffery Lurie. People like Lurie, we can learn a lot from. Jeffery is from Havensford, Pennsylvania USA, is married with two children and has amassed a fortune of $980 million.
After George W. Bush and Dick Cheyney helped enable the US economy to get wrecked, grief was suddenly on everyone’s minds in recession. People lost a lot. They’re still grieving, therefore experts in coping with real grief (not just ‘paper money’ financial losses grief) are needed.
Lisa Nieme, the much loved widow of Patrick Swayze will make her first public appearance at the Women’s Conference in Long Beach, California.
Nieme will speak on a panel alongwith, Elizabeth Edwards and Susan St. James, who both lost children in accidents. The Governator’s wife, Maria Shriver will host the event. Shriver lost her mom Eunice Shriver and uncle Ted Kennedy this year.
For one of the best books you’ll ever find on coping and dealing with grief, you must read Mummy What Colour Was The Car? Surviving Traumatic Loss: A Personal Experience written by Dr Trudy Honore and edited by Margaret Woodhouse daughter of Sir Owen Woodhouse and the much fun and playful, Lady Peggy Woodhouse.
An amazing little manual into grief acknowledgement and recovery. These days Margi lives at lake Taupo with her family and writes happy kids books, is a book publisher and a children’s book illustrator. She’s well worth checking out. Cats and future prime minister kids are her thing these days. Margi is a saint, her spirit so sweet. Which is why Margaret Woodhouse gets a mention from Hollywood today. Kia Ora girl. :)
Now when does the Baby Barack wants to be President illustrated childrens book series, drop? Of course, the Maori version will be the most colorful and the Chinese version the most lucrative. Move aside Wendy Pye. Tag Margaret Woodhouse–you’re it! xox
Any ideas as to how the Thorp Woodhouse Todd Families Arts & Global Education Trusts could distribute the Baby Barack children’s book series into Africa. It would be an honest effort towards global change.
Art Moreno made his money in sports billboard advertising.
$970 million worth. Go here to see how.
Certainly beats waiting for the winning lottery numbers.
But we can learn from Art Moreno and do that too. :)
This one is for my West Hollywood Russian peeps in the 90046 zip code.
Well… while Amber Rose is still going through her baby celebrity steps, as a model turned A-List rating star who dates hip hop singer, Kanye West,, the real celebrities of America, won’t have a google ranking as high as she does, but gosh they know a lot about making the mullah.
Hi kids of America. Because we can’t live on Lady Gaga news alone, otherwise we just make a pop star rich; let’s take a look at American billionaire Dwight Schar today. I like his relatable name, it’s very Hollywood, although Schar doesn’t live here. :)
Dwight inspires as he has always valued the importance of education. Rock on dude!
As a teen, Schar worked darn hard to get to where he is today. Dwight was raised in Ohio where he worked his fingers off toiling nights at a pipe-fitting factory to pay for classes at Ashland College.
His love of education became a passion to educate others when Schar became a junior high school teacher, for all of a future billionaire’s brief nanosecond. He later moved on to real estate purchasing land for Ryan Homes. (more…)
Twice divorced, with six children, and onto his third marriage, Sam Wyly is America’s 399th richest person in the land of the brave.
Sam’s parents once had a Louisiana newspaper, and his favorite section of the newspaper was the business section. Wyly grew up with a passion for playing football. After school he always cleaned the printing presses and he later learnt that he had a talent for selling ads.
Billionaires need love too. Especially this last year where America’s wealthiest people found themselves down 300 billion to 2008 from $1.57 trillion to $1.27 trillion. Financial storms aside, these are the top 10 super heroes of wealth this year.
Faltering capital markets and plummeting real-estate prices, along with divorce and fraud, affected the fortunes of 314 billionaires and caused 32 plutocrats to fall off the rankings.
The most effected, was our man, Warren Buffet whose Berkshire Hathaway shares fell 20% in 12 months, costing Buffet $10 billion to his own personal fortune. Despite taking a hit in an unprecedented global recession, Warren Buffet remains one of the best financial advisor’s in the US, who is dubbed the Oracle of Omaha for his sound financial wisdom and philanthropic heart. Buffet is on the rise.
