GWENNETH PALTROW TALKS UP BEYONCE KNOWLES AND NICKI MINAJ
Some quotes from Gwenneth Paltrow regarding her iPod playlist:
“I watched Beyonce a ton because I think she’s the best live performer happening right now. She has this amazing confidence and I thought to myself if I could just get a tiny bit of that self confidence then maybe I can pull off this scene at the end. You wouldn’t necessarily think that Beyonce would be the inspiration for a country star [laughs].”… “I listen to everything. I probably have the most schizophranic iPod. My biggest obsession right now is the Nicki Minaj album. She’s a genius. I’m also obsessed with Kanye’s album. I really like Dierks Bentley. He has a bluegrass record that I really love.”
Winning cross-cultural styles hath Gwenneth.

BEYONCE AND JAY-Z LUNCH IN QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
Queensland Australia is a lot of fun. I first visited playing rugby football when I was 9 years of age. Brisbane was always a happy place to visit. Sweet pineapples and macadamia nuts are all grown in abundance, on the sun-kissed terrain that is called the Australia’s Gold Coast.
Here’s Jay-Z and Beyonce snapped lunching in Queensland Thursday.

CHRISTINE O’DONNELL ON TAX CUTS, HOW JOBS ARE CREATED, AND A FEW THINGS AMUSING AMERICA – 12.8.10
Christine O’Donnell is quoted saying: “At a speech Tuesday night in Virginia, Christine called Obama’s tax cut deal that included the extension of unemployment benefits a “tragedy” comparable to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the death of Elizabeth Edwards, The Hill reported.
“Tragedy comes in threes,” O’Donnell told the audience. “Pearl Harbor, Elizabeth Edwards’s passing and Barack Obama‘s announcement of extending the tax cuts but also extending the unemployment benefits,” she added. On Monday, the President and GOP leaders agreed to keep Bush-era tax cuts in place for all Americans for the next two years and extended jobless benefits for 13 months.
I don’t blame Obama’s government for the 9.8% unemployment rate currently, because I never created a job for anyone else, the last two years. How can I blame Obama for what I didn’t do? One year in the US, I was able to create a job for someone. The last two years, no.
This year, someone unexpectedly created a part time job that they offered me. The timing of the job could not have been better. For this person’s kindness, I will always be thankful. Their actions are what I know of real America, and not what’s in magazines, but the stuff real people are made of here, who build community with sustained effort.
A DIVA-STATED NEW ZEALAND FRIEND PIC, AUSTRALIA’S ANGEL SUPERMODEL AND THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – WED 12.1.10
A diva touched down in New Zealand’s rock star city (Auckland The Supercity) recently to land on top again in today’s Hollywood news. Here’s Beyonce Knowles pic as snapped with a 19 year-old happy student on Bee’s recent visit to the green paradise nation.
Our entertainment celebrity news also celebrates Australian model Miranda Kerr strutting her Aussie-Angel winged self on a global runway–as she awaits to be a mother in the world. Apart from The Queen Bee, even Wikileaks scandals of the world’s most powerful leaders could not trump this Aussie supermodel from taking out top honors.
Fun choices today on a mixed day of sadness and joy for me as a Kiwi in America. Here’s our top ten in Hollywood. Thanks everyone.
1. Beyonce‘s diva pic with Sam Bellingham rates again
2. Aussie Miranda Kerr struts wings as Sun Capitol Partners supermodel of World

GOOD GOLLY – JAY-Z AND BEYONCE ARE QUITE A DRAW AT LUNCH IN NEW ZEALAND
Yesterday my mom called to say Beyonce and Jay-Z lunched at Soul Cafe on the viaduct basin of Auckland The Supercity. It was quite a moment. Here’s the highlights while the couple stayed at Mollies a boutqiue hotel in the trendy restaurant-suburb of Ponsonby. Here’s Ten Things about the superstar couples lunch in New Zealand:
New York Body Guards: The couple travel with bodyguards who were toting”thick raspy New Yorker accents.”
Beyonce loves New Zealand Snapper: New Zealand snapper is a deep sea fish that you grow up catching as a kid with your dad on fishing weekends. It’s loved by Japan, China and those in the know in Europe. The cool thing is, when you go to any local fish ‘n chip store near a beach, snapper is also on the menu for $4 – $6 a piece. With a beer it’s delicious. She’s got good taste in food this girl.
Jay-Z dined on John Dory fish: Jigga also had fish. Apparently his taste preference was the John Dory and fries. John Dory is oilier in texture than snapper–and in my opinion not as good, although it is faintly sweeter to the taste, but less juicy on the palate. Having said that, all New Zealand seafood (Australian seafood too) is good.
Fun with cameras: The Queen Bee of R n’ B, took great delight in (snapping) photographing Jay-Z and the paparazzi too with her camera as a reminder that it was Jay-Z’s entertainment moment, not hers. Gracious and fun.
What wine did the star couple share? The Gibbston Valley Pinos Gris. With a sense of Kiwi humor, the gold medal winning wine is described as so: “A very bright nose, strongly infused with passionfruit. On the palate, the energy of the wine is juxtaposed against a very creamy, expansive palate. A surge of concentrated fruit relaxes all the way through the long lingering finish. An amazingly versatile wine with food, its strength is that it combines fullness of structure with pleasing aromatics. We have consistently found our Pinot Gris cellar well between 5-8 years.” You can order a case of it here.
The onlookers at nearby tables: Who should have been at this lunch are TV directors/ producers: Tini Molyneux, Nicole Hoey, Joanna Paul, Stacey Morrison, Paora Maxwell, Greg Mayor, Eliza Bidois, Scotty Morrison, Matai Rangi Smith to name a few star Auckland show biz entertainers–who could have provided Bee and Jay-Z with some fun cultural sense of Kiwi humor. However, this is who was present: TV Game Show Producer Julie Christie. Magazine editor Bevan Rapson. Tres blanca, I must say for NZ’s colorful entertainment diversity, but all good.
Onlookers quote of the day: Said winemaker Kim Crawford: “I walked out the front of the restaurant to have a smoke,” Crawford told the Herald on Sunday, “and I went to pull out my ciggies from my pocket and the bodyguard yelled ‘No photos!’ I said, ‘f*** off, mate, this is New Zealand. It’s just cigarettes. He did apologise, so that was okay.”
Someone needs to tell Kim, that if you spark up a joint in California (in many parts of the US) no one would look at you twice. Cigarettes are like what the devil smokes–they are satanic for one’s lungs is the belief, so um, yeah! It’s very self-righteous of the US, but it’s the developing trend of etiquette here. The French will love this story though from Kim Crawford. Too funny. What a cowboy! It’s just that in air polluted cities, people like to avoid cigarette smoke in preference of the ganja–yet in New Zealand with good clean air, the reverse is probably true when lunching. We don’t have air issues in the same way big US cities do. Every little bit of air management helps here.
A bit about Mollies – celebrity couples romance star-accommodation spot: Mollies romantic boutique hotel accommodation in Auckland city New Zealand, is a small luxury hotel, named “Best New Small Hotel in The World” by Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report Hotel Awards. Think Ireland, meets classic operatic overtones with a hint of Asia-Pacific freshness to get the gist. I smile when I see a picture of Mollies. It’s a converted colonial styled house that once belonged to Liz and Rick who were my bosses when I was 16 living, studying and working in Auckland at Rick’s Cafe Americain. Love what’s been done to this house. Hot!
The restaurant exit: Jigga and Bee’s romantic 90-minute late lunch saw them ushered to an awaiting Audi that transported the star couple to a helicopter to chopper their way a short distance to Mt Smart Stadium for the final concert of the New Zealand leg where Jay-Z played support act to U2.
Are Jay-Z and Beyonce still in New Zealand? No. They flew out yesterday.
[Photog credit: Stephen McNicholl: Jay-Z does his thing in concert, having fun at Auckland The Supercity's Mount Smart Stadium concert venue]
I remember watching Beyonce live at Mt Smart Stadium myself, long before she was ‘officially dating’ her hubby with her girl group Destiny’s Child. The moment was harmonious and magical under a big super top tent. She proudly wore the biggest blondest afro wig, her head could hold and hula skirts for much of the concert. At the same venue, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Bon Jovi, Alanis Morissette and Robbie Williams are also fond rock star moments I remember seeing at Mt Smart. Auckland The Supercity is one of the best venues you could ever see a rock star perform in. It’s a place that is getting LOUDER in a good way, with rock star diverstity! Such a cool city with fun surrounding adventure activities to enjoy with a quality of restaurant life and culture that’s second to none in the world. Much fun. Having seen Beyonce in concert here too at the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles, you just ignore exaggerated reports that she towers in a red dress and Loubouton leopard print heels. Bee is actually average or short in stature, like many of America’s most famous pop stars are, if you see them live. There’s nothing much to them, but their spirits are larger than life in concert. It’s all camera work, best angles and mega-projection. As a performer, Beyonce is second to none. She’s like a Jackson, or lately, a Bieber–they’re the best show people in the world.
My nephew Bradley James totally digs Jay-Z and was so mega-excited that Jigga was performing at this concert with U2. He was there watching the concert, a dream come true. Apparently these lads were amazing!

SAM BELLINGHAM, BEYONCE, BONO, MAORI MOMS AND U2 IN AUCKLAND THE SUPERCITY, NEW ZEALAND
[Image caption - Fan Sam Bellingham was lucky enough to get a photo with Beyonce as she arrived at Auckland International Airport, New Zealand].
My Maori mum, Tui of Helensville is too cute. Right on midnight (Los Angeles Time) she called me to say that she had gone with her grandchildren to see Bono (she meant U2) perform in Auckland The Supercity.
She also said that Beyonce was spotted going for lunch the next day at The Soul Cafe in Auckland City. “She’s beautiful dear,” were mom’s words.
Maori moms are so much fun. Mine is in her 70′s and can still rock it out to a humanitarian’s rock concert with her grandkids. Namely, her blackest grandchild Bradley James. Love her!
On the phone we talked about what she feels the world needs today. For once I listened. She spoke of people needing a true sense of manaaki (or hospitality from one’s spirit) that this would warm and brighten the world and make it a better place.
She was deep as well as funny as Maori and all Kiwi moms usually are. I felt her manaakitanga over the phone of a woman who has birthed her children in New Zealand, in Tonga in Fiji and travelled to India, China, Israel, America, Australia, the Phillipines as the global people-loving citizen that mom is. From New Zealand, her home–mom’s love of her big-hearted nation in the world beamed bright across New Zealand’s South Pacific Waters to my Maori-Kiwi heart here in California.
Thanks for the fun phone call mom.
And – go Sam Bellingham in New Zealand! You rock. Los Angeles sees your star Kiwi smile too. xox

DANCE VIDEO – FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA LEARNS INDIAN DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY
Watch clip here.
FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, laid all her American dance moves aside and leaped into some new fun and learning, dancing with young people in India.
Their traditional music, is a little bit hip, as reflected in this dance video too of Beyonce dancing at a block party with arms raised, Indian style also. (Kylie Minogue‘s arm/ hand movements choreography from her new music video Get Outta My Way, a few weeks before Beyonce was filmed, doing Indian-styled hip hop choregraphy, also reflects the same trait. Hands expression in dance is India).
Nice cross-cultural similarities being found and created right now in world history (in arts and cultural performing arts) between America and India with Mrs Obama. Quite novel really, who ever would have thought?
Also Britney Spears Bollywood choreography in her Circus World Tour was also a forward-thinking example of this. The most successful cross-over American artist in India’s history is Michael Jackson (1/4 of all music download in India, is that of MJ’s). Nice to see Michelle Obama going after the Jackson golden trail of cultural appeal that Indians like… in the dance of life that in universally shared by us all.
Janet Jackson also demonstrated this in her no. 1 hit, Runaway -the music video,15-years ago for American women crossing over into India by paying tribute and respect to Indian women’s legacy of dance as performing artists. That clip below. Michelle Obama makes it look so natural and easy for America to dance Indian. Love it, just like the world loves Janet doing the same thing. Mrs Obama is the first First Lady of America to do this. Go Michelle!:
Of course, being a Kiwi I ask the question, what would Bollywood musicals choreography look like, filmed in the colorful magic of 3D cinematic mastery? Now there’s the future of cinema and musical cinema(s) bridge-building cross-culturally smart, right there. A part of it, anyway. Peter Jackson directing a simulation of the Taj Mahal imagery in 3D could be quite hot, when filming action and choreography. Watching Mrs Obama perform in the above clip also reminds me of Avondale, a city in Auckland The Supercity and the culturally rich Kiwi-Indian community of New Zealand. Love them.

MEET DARNEL – GO-GO BOY BEYONCE BUNNY
He’s black. Gay. A teen. And alive. Meet Darnel. He poppin it while eating his snacks, for East LA on Halloween in West Hollywood. Nuts. Lol!
When I asked Darnel who he was dressed as he said: “I a Presidential Beyonce Bunny baby. A Prez-Z-Dent-CHU-AL BEE-ON-SAY bun-NEE,” to get the ebonics right.
“Wanna check my credentials?,” Darnel adds after this pic was snapped, quoting the Beyonce song lyrics of the funny and OTT song, Why Dont You Love Me.
I love black peoples sense of humor in the US. It’s so like Maoris, it’s a hoot. Never dull, insipid or boring. Very quick witted humor.Anyway…
Whatevz Darnel! How about a slightly more well known Presidential Bunny then. Here ya go.

Jay-Z: “You’re looking very holy today.”
Beyonce: “Wow, you’re good. (pause) You’re looking very… “
Jay-Z: “Woman… shhh, just watch the game!”
(Laughter)…

3D JACKSON ESTATE – IS THE MICHAEL JACKSON INSPIRED THRILLER FILM TO BE MADE IN 3D?
“In a world full of despair, you must still dare to believe”–imagination: Michael Jackson, King of Pop.
Michael Jackson, earned $275 million posthumously for his estate. His star template for entertainment distribution and spin off merch – is still America’s star template all emulate.
GK Films are negotiating to develop a feature film around MJ’s Thriller.
Real Effects Entertainment are shopping the idea to studios. Kenny Ortega is attached to direct, and The Hangover scribe Jeremy Garelick to write the screenplay. That’s funny publicity already.
GK are driving the film pitch but Fox 2000, Mandate/Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are bidding too. The film budget is expected to make $50 million.
The song’s folklore, involving Vincent Price and the town he grew up in–is the basis of the film’s narrative’s plot line.
Thriller songwriter Rod Temperton is up in this mix too. Meanwhile, Cirque du Soleil is in talks to do two live shows based on Jackson’s music.
Montecito partners Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock are developing a film that focuses on MJ’s earlier years as The King of Pop. Peter Schlessel -head of GK films is leading producing efforts on this film idea.
While at Sony Pictures Entertainment, Schlessel made the deal for This Is It!, a big earner for SPE, and it is likely that GK Films will distribute Thriller through its SPE output deal. UTA reps Garelick and Reel Effects, while Paradigm reps Ortega.
This report via Mike Fleming.
My thoughts are – if MJ was using 3D film technology in his This is It! Tour visual arts armory — shouldn’t this film be shot in 3D, like the future of Bollywood film?
Distribution: If Hollywood wants a piece of India’s entertainment than this is a good idea. No other artist has been downloaded more times than MJ in India’s entertainment history of music sales. 24% of all songs in India downloaded are MJ songs. Really Summit Entertainment should bid big, as they are the leading ‘werewolf’/ wolf pack kids in Hollywood.
We live in an age of the 3D Jackson Estate still furthering entertainment models and distributon strategies for American Ent. I dig. Before Jackson died he was all about Thinking Green to save the earth’s enviroment – and he was doing this in 3D.

THE KNOWLES WOMEN TAKE ON CRYSTAL METH CULTURE WITH THE LAUNCH OF MISS TINA FASHION LINE
I love Beyonce Knowles‘ P.R moves on the celebrity and merch chess board lately. They’re smart, to both make bank and also to speak into an accelerating drug culture as people escape in recession to avoid the reality of a scaled back American dream.
The last week in Hollywood has been insane for people aged 20 to 45 being wasted on stuff-not-alcohol, at some bars. On a level, I’ve never seen before, in terms of the amount of wasted people, has quadrupled.
Don’t get me wrong, like Hollywood is not a convent, so drugs are a part of it, but the level of people wasted, is oppressive. Not because of them being wasted in higher numbers (no pun intended) but because it’s a sign of these economic times, that crushes peoples spirits. That pisses me off. It’s like a silent but present bully, weighing heavy on a generation of Americans psyches. It’s sad to see occurring.
What sucks, is that no one looks happy, either. Like, it’s not like the hippies were happy and cool in the 70′s, rebelling for a social cause. It’s not that look at all. The look is dark and scared. They look glazed and beaten up, in that state. Did I mention, that these California people are incredibly gorgeous though, so it makes the tragedy even more gutting, from an ‘aesthetics’ stand point.
I think of parent artists, who created these canvases called their American children. I don’t think these artists, bled on canvas to tell this kind of American picture. That irks me too. This is inter-generational art, under threat. Being eroded. Gutted. From within the soul. It has to stop. Then there’s the foreboding feeling, that there’s still more knocks to come. They know it too. So perhaps, they are leaders of the next wave of challenges, if they get through these temporal ones.
Wonderland is definitely in reverse. It’s a bit off putting. Like surreality, gone lopsy. A tad bit odd.
As we know, crystal meth drug culture is a big issue. Especially in many L.A communities (not to name hoods). Put simply, crystal meth culture exists for people who can’t afford the culture of diamonds and chandeliers. They’re shut outside it, yet all the role models being held up, are dripping in both. There’s a disconnect, so crystal meth culture exploits this – and the masses get hooked in. It’s a very social drug.
Thankfully in New Zealand we had a crystal epidemic a decade ago. I have a niece named Crystal, who developed her own strategies as a babe, to avoid it, when it hit her generation hard. She’s instinctually smart and an amazing person. And I think of her, when I look at these 40 year-old kids on it. Knowing, that teens and the 50+ set who are most at risk of it, are not even present in the room.
It’s a trip to watch, strip people of their ability to fight back, at what’s costing them their dream in the first place. That one, is going to be around for a while.
When Lady Gaga came on the scene – her Bad Romance video has many crystal symbols in it. In fact, many of Gaga’s fans get her crystal symbology. The same way red wine drinkers do. She’s a marketing genius at producing symbols, to attract and cyphon markets. Beyonce is too, but needs more symbols generated – to now compete at the level Gaga has been with symbols generation.
Since Beyonce switched it up with a good P.R team – her marketing is set to take on drug culture. This week, we saw Beyonce take her diva self to the block – for a block party. This positions her brands within reach of the little people who first made her a star (safety in Beyonce whiplash aftermath from the public that swung to now Gaga-flavored fickle times), but the positioning of Beyonce on the block, also declares her war for community issues and concerns, that happen in neighborhoods, that need an angel (or advocate).
And, she’s now – launching her statement against “tina” culture

HUMOROUS PUBLICITY AWARD – BEYONCE’S DIAMOND RECORD HOPES PR – LADY GAGA GIVES A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY GIFT
Sometimes, news articles are written so well from singer’s publicists, that they deserve to shine like an example of ‘how it’s done’ all on their own. This is one such instance, that came to my attention with the search question on this blog: “What did Beyonce get for her birthday this year?” Too funny.
This ‘report’ from rttnews: “Beyoncé received a very special gift from her friend Lady Gagawhile celebrating her 29th birthday last week. A source close to the singer (always ‘a source close to the singer’) says that the ‘notoriously naughty’ Gaga wanted to give “something special” and decided on a diamond studded whip and matching underwear.
“The whip was made out of hundreds of diamonds and leather,” the source told the Sun. “When Beyoncé received it she squealed with excitement. The dressing room was decorated with balloons and banners.”
Gaga then reportedly serenaded Beyoncé with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” before the singers knocked back a bottle of champagne in Jay-Z‘s dressing room.
Before her big night, Beyoncé spoke with Self Magazine, giving her fans a few tips on how they can keep their bodies in ‘top shape.’
“I’ll put on a song that I really like and do bicep curls with 5 pound weights for the duration of the song and just try to ‘burn out,’” she said, adding that she also does squats and lunges in addition to push ups and sit ups.”
And that’s rock music publicity today, being done the best in America at the zenith of iTunes’ golden girls array of America’s finest pop stars. Too hilarious press.

OP-ED BREAKING NEWS: CONTENTMENT FOR RESENTMENT RECOVERY
Dear LA Times Readers, with Love:
Here’s the definition of contentment, the remedy of resentment, the latter being the thief of life’s fullness. Let’s live in contentment.
Dictionary Definitions provided for us by Dictionary Reference: as word medicine for our United States of Recovery.
Contentment:
the state of being contented; satisfaction; ease of mind.
Archaic . the act of making contentedly satisfied.
“A state of mind in which one’s desires are confined to his lot whatever it may be. It is opposed to envy, avarice, anxiety, ambition and repining. It arises from the inward disposition, and is the offspring of humility, and of an intelligent consideration of the rectitude and benignity of divine providence, the greatness of divine promises and our own unworthiness of rest and peace hereafter, that contentment provides in a state of grace.”
Just a spoon full of sugar then. :)
Love that definition.
Noun Origin: mid-15c., from Fr. contentment , from contenter
For the writer/ editor who composed the compelling piece on resentment recovery yesterday for all Californians to read. Thank you. If we live in contentment and not resentment, would love win out over war? Here’s music artists Beyonce, U2 and Eric Clapton with their art of live music today as entertainment for reflection on that question.

BEYONCE VS BEYONCE VIZIO COMMERCIAL
Beyonce is “diva funny” in her new Vizio commercial. Unless someone is on a telephone screen or a TV screen, we often don’t believe much else. Many of us are digital-addicted in the age of internet, news feeds and mobile telephony.
I like the way Beyonce questions the appearance of a simulcrum vs a “real” appearance. Clever. She makes you think.
This TVC is getting major buzz right now in the beautiful USA. Hottest place to broadcast this TVC is MSNBC. You know it. :)
