Fame is a catch-22. If you don’t have it, no one goes to buy your books or watch your movies. You also don’t win elections or bank your millions. However, when peoples hones are hacked, using police help to do so, like in the case of News of The World ‘information laundering’ (to spin into laundering money by printing tabloids and newspapers), breaches of privacy can occur – taking the game too far. This is the case with a line up of names bitten by stalkers, hackers working for The News of The World and the Murdoch family.
In New Zealand, you’d more have to look at “Security Industries” information laundering. For example, the politician that holds this portfolio is at a huge advantage to know what every private citizen is up to. Likewise, they could also breach the privacy of their opposition political candidates, giving them an unfair advantage in strategizing new policy moves. In any event, whether it be online or by tapping telephones or the business of people hacking (a combination of tactics where IT and an orchestrated infiltration of ‘actors’ in peoples network of friends, work or family is used).
If you’ve ever been stalked before, by a combination of these factors you can relate to the tabloid stories being played out in court under a hacking investigative court case. However, an almost Faustian pact is signed by those who give their privacy away for the goodies, so you can’t help but admire UK stars for wanting to have their cake and privacy too, in an increasingly online world of information sharing.Smart stars like the Jolie-Pitts ignore/ support fake Tell All books about themselves. This way the fascination from the public, is assuaged while they can just get on with their lives. Perhaps UK celebrities need to do the same. However, I do agree with these stars on privacy levels of their basic human rights being ‘abused’ under the guise of ‘news’ or ‘the law’ of the ‘spying industry’ –a global money turning big beast.
The NZ Herald reports: “Writer JK Rowling and actress Sienna Miller have given a London courtroom a vivid picture of the anxiety, anger and fear produced by living in the glare of Britain’s tabloid media, describing how press intrusion made them feel like prisoners in their own homes. (more…)
