“I don’t have a trophy cabinet, no… they will probably collect some dust somewhere or I will give them to someone.”
“A lot people obviously didn’t expect me to handle the media the way I have… there were a lot of question marks, I guess, and I think we have answered quite a lot of those. I am actually quite proud of that, quite pleased with it.
“I think it is an attitude shift. When you are the assistant you have got a different role and I was probably a bit over-protective of people. But as the head coach you lead with the media and it allows you take it in a direction you want to take it in.”

THE CHIEFS, LIAM MESSAM – TOM FRENCH MEMORIAL TROPHY WINNER 2012
“These are the true heroes of our game, and we acknowledge that,” Mike Eagle said as Liam Messam scooped The Tom French Memorial trophy in 2012. Liam’s regional rugby team The Chiefs had a solid year of rugby in New Zealand in what was a big year for the rugby football star.

RUGBY AWARDS 2012 – YEAR’S END NEW ZEALAND
Rugby News: The Awards keep flowing for New Zealand’s All Blacks rugby football team. The Kelvin R. Tremain Memorial Player of the Year trophy was given to Richie McCaw. Steve Hansen won coach of the year. The All Blacks team won team of the year.
Liam Messam scooped the Tom French Memorial Maori Player of the Year. Conrad Smith won Super Rugby Player of the Year. Finally, Robbie Fruean also won the ITM Cup Player of the Year.

JULIAN SAVEA’S DEBUT YEAR OF INTERNATIONAL RUGBY WAS STRONG 2012
2012 saw some stand out stars for New Zealand. One was young Julian Savea. Three tries scored on a Irish debut test for the All Blacks. He went on to give All Blacks fans something to cheer about at Twickenham in his final match of the year. JS scored nine tries in 12 tests. At 22 he plays a game of power rugby that sees Savea listed as NZ’s best left wing. He is said to have added finesse to his power.
I just think he was born that way. A little Samoan power house.
