ANGELS
One of my favorite photos: The day after it was taken, snow fell in The Valley. The image sort of sums up what media do worldwide: angels of news.
Sometimes angels come to you: Unexpectedly. Do we have eyes to see them, when they do? (more…)
AT THE COUNTY FAIR WITH MOM
hitting up the fair today… a farming community having fun.
how it was: up at the fair, the young farmers club regional contest is on.
craig williamson from methven-ashburton way is the sponsoring bank’s m.c. as the farmer contestants compete in a constructed obstacle course.
it’s nothing flash: eggs, giant cream trifle squares in plastic containers, forestry, utes, pruning pine trees then felling pine trees to fall on a black balloon, loading quad bike trailers with green fence posts, looking for electronic tags in hay bales, solving concrete blocks puzzles, strainer posts fencing games are what the farmers do over an interesting rural soundtrack barrage of coded farming commentary: it’s all a bit potty, laden with otago gold dig & s-land slap stick comical references to help our farmers out. all done in heavy-undertoned rural humour (heavier than previous years of farming scene observes, i might add) with a serious business face to boot, for sure. the mc truly clever in their craft.
c-bury is in a land so far away to these farmer’s community’s realities, in local terms i question its strong presence at the event’s location. it does recognise diversity of region in nz perhaps, to entertain a group of particular farmers. in farming banter terms souther-exotic even. they’re good sports, they don’t react to the invasion of their consciousness at a cultural-community regionally-proud ag-level in their own right.
the amusing mood? farmers kindergarten-activities for grown ups – meets lots of enthusiastic support. a good crowd to be in. it is harmless fun in the sun. (more…)

NEW ZEALAND DAY, WAITANGI DAY 2013
Although the spirit of Waitangi Day lies in honoring Maori inclusion as equal business partners with The Crown each day, Waitangi Day celebrations are “to give us a full sense of nationhood” du jour in agreement for all that New Zealanders as a team are trying to achieve.
To stay in agreement with the principles of Waitangi’s foundational spirit (to see others different to ourselves as equals) is the benchmark of respect in New Zealand that our founding fathers and mothers hoped for, when they as intelligent and adventurous people inked a deal to uphold justice – in the concept of communities evolving and being strong trading partners working together for the good of Aotearoa, NZ.
Prime Minister John Key said, he believed Waitangi Day was a valuable opportunity for discussion and stood by his commitment.
“How will history judge [us]? History will judge [us as New Zealanders] well because [we] come back year after year.”
He also urged the iwi [Ngapuhi] involved in the Te Hiku collective to sort out their differences and move toward a settlement, saying it would inject as much as $200 million into an area that greatly needed it.
Ngapuhi has over 20% of the Maori population. Ironically, the tribe is one of the last to settle with The Crown. So, a timely speech from the PM to Ngapuhi.

TTG, NDA GROUP, AG-SCI & WHAT GREG MUIR’S TEAM COULD DEVELOP NEXT FOR NZ FARMERS BEST INDUSTRY INTERESTS & ENDEAVORS
Tru-Test Group, that fuses electronics for the agi-sci industry purchased Dairy Technology Services from NDA Group.
The agri-tech group finished 16th on the TIN100 survey of companies set up to improve technology and research. TTG splashed $73m for the acquisition.
What’s needed now is for a company like TTG, to develop the same thing with a banking software system invention, that can then track ‘white gold’ (aka dried dairy product with the water then extracted) around the world to see if NZ farmers are achieving the best brand leverage from dairy leaving the farm gate to distribution world wide. ADVENTUROUS NEW ZEALAND
irg42 website says: New Zealand is the youngest country on earth – the last major landmass to be discovered. It has a rich and fascinating history, reflecting both our Maori and European heritage. Amazing Maori historic sites and taonga (treasures), some dating back almost a thousand years, are a contrast to many beautiful colonial buildings. A walk around any New Zealand city today shows what a culturally diverse and fascinating country we have become. The Treaty of Waitangi: In 1840 treaty between Maori and the British Crown is New Zealand’s founding document. Today, the Treaty of Waitangi has a major impact on all New Zealanders. The Youngest Country: Only a thousand years ago, Maori became the first people to migrate to New Zealand. Since then, people have come from around the world to settle here. (more…)

POU WHENUA EXPRESSION, ANTARCTICA IS A LOVELY TOUCH – JANUARY 2013
“It is expression [that] we are part of the culture of New Zealand… Scott Base has a place in the hearts and minds of New Zealanders, even if they haven’t visited here. To have this representation here is a lovely touch.”
56 years after New Zealand settled into Ross Island, Ngai Tahu’s Mark Solomon and NZ’s John Key speak in Artactica unveiling Ngai Tahu Maori artwork sculpture made of West Coast totara. The sculpture of cultural significance was placed next to the New Zealand flagpole that Sir Edmund Hillary put up in 1957 to mark the opening of Scott base on Ross Island.

NGATI OTAUTAHI IS A VERY BLESSED CHRISTCHURCH IWI IN NEW ZEALAND 2013
It is fair to say, that when reviewing the Maori political scene of New Zealand in the last seven years, (thus the political scene of NZ entire), that one stand out feature can be said.
Fact no.1: $2b in payouts to be shared for land claims in Christchurch.
Fact no.2: Ngai Tahu (the original founding parent tribe) of Ngati Otautahi (Christchurch City) are doubly blessed. (more…)
FINANCIAL LITERACY COURSE LINK & WHY OUR KIDS HAVE LEARNED TO CHEAT & LIE IN 2013
Course outline: Education & Financial literacy
It’s official, the USA isn’t the only nation to have raised Pretty Little Liars audiences of the TV drama series. Apparently, most New Zealanders were honest enough to admit they lie and cheat in a new survey.
Scoop reports: How do lying, cheating, stealing adults impact a nation’s youth and children?
A Colmar Brunton survey showed: 81% of adults admit cheating. 36% cheat in a relationship. 22% at work. 8 % of young people say they have not cheated. Most youth then are cheating on their parents by lying. 24% of adults told a lie to their significant other. 50% in the last month. 70% are hit by guilt. 84% say cheating was justified. To avoid hurting a friend, was the common lie believed, when people [we] lie. 7% say, lying is never cool. 12% think to lie if cheating on your significant other in an affair is acceptable. 60% of adults steal. 50% say from a shop.
Youth have a blunt view in black and white of what it means to steal. (Our redemption, ahead).
Children learn through observation, so as adults we’re pretty rotton.
91% of adults think [our] personal ethics and character is on the right track. 57% think they [we] are better than most people they know. And so the deception continues in a vicious circle of pride (not good pride, blinding pride).
280 30+ people were serveyed December 2012. Colman Brunton is part of the Millward Brown network covering more than 51 countries around the world, and Kantar, WPP’s insight, information and consultancy group. www.colmarbrunton.co.nz.

2012 WAS A YEAR WHERE OLDER NZ MEN STARTED NEW FAMILIES – INVERCARGILL SOUTH ISLAND REFLECTIONS OF LIFE
Fresh Starts NZ News: In New Zealand it’s still very much a man’s world. More specifically, it’s very much a white man’s world. If you’ve ever seen Queen Street Auckland on a friday night, a sight that makes you smile is the amount of older Pakeha male Kiwis (NZ blokes) who are now on their second or third relationships or marriages, with younger Asian women.
It’s a trend that wasn’t as evident in Auckland 7 years ago. Yet it is now very much an Auckland trend of NZ’s North Island population shifts.
In the South Island, we have quite colorful mayors. One is Invercargill‘s Tim Shadbolt (pictured). My Aunty, a school teacher, used to be a deputy Mayor once with Tim in an Auckland City of NZ’s North Island. Last year Tim became a dad again at the young age of 65 (more…)

THE CELEBRITY REHAB – HEALTH REALIGNMENT INDUSTRY – BILLIONAIRE’S HQ THINKING
The last time I went to an Iwi meeting, we were asked to present our ideas for tribal business advancement.
I said, let’s create celebrity rehab centres in New Zealand as a part of the medical tourism industry. Upmarket, with an entire range of health products our Iwi (Maori tribe) makes and creates, in conjunction with the spiritual side of healing and psychology too.
It went down like a … like a… like a… ?! (more…)
IWI PROGRESS – MAORI NEWS – 23rd DECEMBER 2012
“Nothing really has happened for a long time, but I am very keen to move on and both the iwi and the Crown have been working very hard on these settlements for about 18 months,” said Chris Finlayson working right to year’s end while acting for The Crown when addressing three Iwi (Maori tribes) historical redress moment. The settlement process dates back to rightful recognition as equal treaty partners to The Crown of 171 years ago. Earlier in the year, the Iwi were involved in a peaceful march through the nation’s capital, where the tribes met again yesterday.
The next step is a deed of settlement, which will include an official apology. (more…)

ECONOMIC THEATRE – EFFICIENT INFRASTRUCTURE CREATIVE PLAY IN THE HOUSE THAT BOND BUILT
Creative people play every day in productive ways. It’s how they [we] explore, invent the new and dream up the new, so that entrepreneurs can then get things done.
As we have a purpose to be productive, creative play [and an economy is a creative play on a global stage of sorts] becomes increasingly productive with how citizens choose to use leisure time. Creative people use leisure time productively. It is their intellectual down-to-earth DNA.
A focus to build, can lead to a nation of innovative, useful, fun, playful inventors building the efficient infrastructure we need that makes a people sustainably wealthy over time, due to good building designs of all kinds that are both fun and smart.
An economist writes a creative story. They write: When the cat’s away, the mice will play. Right now, New Zealanders are the mice and the financial market is the cat… NZ’s net foreign liabilities are still about 70 per cent of gross domestic product [too high for comfort]. (more…)
