How did you live in Hollywood and not come back a coke addict?
I don’t know… (just kidding…)
Answer: I had a friend of “the family’s” who was a doctor who split their time between business ventures in the U.S and China. His kids were my friends in the US.
He would give me cocoa beans from the health store. They were bitter to the taste, yet their medicinal benefits were good. He told me to take some with me in my pocket to Hollywood parties. I thought that was a bit big brother weird, but I did listen to his professional advice. He said cocoa beans stimulate the brain. I was Kiwi naive so I believed him. (more…)

HEALTH & BEAUTY NUTRITIONAL PLANNING PRODUCTS & A KIWI WHO EXPORTED VIA A PHARMACEUTICAL START UP COMPANY
Mike Hoskings promo-ed the story of a bloke who started his own pharmaceutical company.
My understanding of the BigPharma market is that it’s very similar to the BigOil game. Whereby it’s very competitive and ethics often don’t exist as well as they should. In fact, BigPharma and BigOil sort of work together. They do have cross-over in some parts of the industry and one goes before the other in territory mapping strategies, you tend to see.
In our kaitiakatanga of place derived on Aotearoa whenua, the wai of Ranginui is so distinctive cloaking Papatuanuku that a "distinctive natural isotope signature moko" falling on her pastureland occurs. The origin of Paptuanuku's milk is thus so specific to Aotearoa, as defined by Ranginui's provision that rainfall samples from across the motu become part of a data map, reflecting rainfall chemistry, and linking farm products back to Aotearoa kainga tutuuru. All of Papatuanuku's produce can be traced back to Ranginui's rain here.

WATER + SUNSHINE + NUTRITION: AGRICULTURAL GOODNESS & THE SHOPLIFTERS LIFTING THE SHOP’S NATURAL GOODNESS DAILY
Water + sunshine + nutrition are some of the most sought after commodities in the world today.
No one knows this more than gardeners and agricultural farmers. They combine the three elements with earth’s nutrients and distribute their products via supermarkets and markets.
A TV Channel in New Zealand showed a story of shoplifting at Australian check out lines in supermarkets. The footage focused on Asian customers faces when claiming supermarket theft is up for fruit and veges purchases at Aussie supermarkets. The story was run on 12th November 2012, a story taken from months ago re-aired today. (more…)
GERMANY’S BAYER AG (BAYN) BUYS USA’S SCHIFF NUTRITION INTERNATIONAL INC (SHF) FOR $1.1b – NUTRITION PLANNING EUROZONE
I was thinking today of when “The London Riots” happened in the UK. Angry citizens looting stores in London was the news.
TV’s & phones being the target of the looting Londoners got the media’s attention.
What got my attention was the kids in vitamins stores. Stealing nutrititional supplements. That is London today. Since the London riots, the GFC aftermath hit Greece, Spain, Italia really hard – much worse than Britain. I think of the need for ‘food security’ of many of the world’s citizens today.
No one knows this more than Germany.
Here’s a story around that:
German Tribune reports: “Recent reports have revealed that Bayer will be taking over Schiff Nutrition International, an important company, which markets nutritional supplements and vitamins across US and other countries. A merger deal has been signed between both the parties.
Brands of Schiff include MegaRedr, Move Freer and Airborner.
On Tuesday, Germany’s largest drug-maker Bayer HealthCare LLC asserted that it will be proposing $34 per share in cash. The company will be taking over Schiff for $1.2 billion, as Schiff’s transaction values are approximately the amount.
Dr. Marijn Dekkers, CEO of Bayer AG said, “Bayer is committed to augment its organic growth with strategic bolt-on acquisition. This transaction represents an excellent strategic fit for our HealthCare business. The Schiff business significantly enhances our position in US“. (more…)
I ate avocados so much in California with corn chips and the most delicious salsa recipes ever, I swear I was an honorary martian of avoca-enhanced-health at one point.
Avocado’s nutritional benefits are green sunshine in a deep purple shell. Back here in the paradise Isles of New Zealand, Kiwi chefs latest offering is: The Art of Making Avocado Taste Like Tuna.–ScoopIt. Eugene Hamilton of Euro’s latest creationz kinda rock!
HealthTip: Apparently, the Guinness Book of World Records states an avocado is the most nutritionally complete fruit in the world. Avocado is all about good fats to help keep the heart healthy. Avocados are chocca with essential vitamins and minerals like iron, folate and vitamin C.

Ti Tonics celebrates entrepreneurialship with Kiwi food exports. Poutama Trust of Wellington, has big plans to launch an international Māori exports initiative. Ti Tonics is a Māori-made product from one of 18 companies that will come under the Trust’s new brand, Indigenous New Zealand. Now you too can experience what we have here in New Zealand all around the world. Way groovy! Like titanium strength superfoods brightening up the healthier lives and futures of the people of Te Ao (the world). I can see Japan really going for these. American footballers too, who do the haka before each game could dig Ti Tonics new range, as well. Hawaii and Texas, definitely!

TASTY POT SOUP – ONLY IN GREEN NEW ZEALAND WOULD NUTRITIOUS MEALS OF SUCH HIGH QUALITY BE EXPORT READY
Velvety Beetroot soup in a pottle. Chorizo and chestnut creamy soup in a pottle, Thai Pumpkin with kamokamo–does winter get better than that, come snack time? Heck no!
Tasty Pot is an innovative New Zealand company. Basically they serve up meal servings, just like a traditional Maori hangi, however the meals are offered in servings of plastic pottles, just not tin foil.
New World (a supermarket chain) Victoria Park posted a Video Link to Nadine Chalmers-Ross‘s story on this groovy company’s products.
Think healthy, tasty nutritious goodness, in a pottle. It’s very Jonny & Lou Bisely, in the school of Kiwi entrepreneurs with delicious food in a package. Tasty Pot is also export ready as a company too. Whose on distribution networks duties worldwide? shadowing the German owned Turners & Growers raw veges food distribution networks – for example, with this idea?
Tatsy Pot products have zero gluten too! Los Angeles will cue for the marketing angles of this special soup.

A question today is: How do you see New Zealand developing new export markets in the health industry?
I think a good start is looking at website: ThomasNet.Com in the USA. It lists ‘small’ businesses who’ve created ways to boost the health and beauty sector. Their ideas are very entrepreneurial and involve scientific thinking.
This topic is an important one in the world, as there are many (due to political decisions) who actually lack regular nutrition in their diets. So, this idea is along those lines in closing the divide of nutrition inequality developing in some countries in such times, as well as thinking entrepreneurial too. Ideas that grow the economy, while doing more good in the world than harm is kinda what the funky, healthy vibe is all about in New Zealand’s future.
Take a look at the website and… if you’re health inclinedwitha brain… you’ll be able to work it out, in a New Zealand context. Of interest too, is how much money these families make by just getting on with it and focussing on wealth creation with investors initial backing. When I first posted this website while living in California three years ago, I did so with the view that entrepreneurial Kiwis (particularly Iwi Maori Kiwis) who read Horiwoodblog, might find value in venturing into the health industry. In those days of 2009, I was selling corporate video concepts and packages to the health sector. ThomasNet.Com was of significance because back then, it used to list the companies annual takings. Thus you knew who to call and pitch to and sell to. Most vitamin companies annual income was US$20 million (minimum). Most of these companies were owned by one family. They were just entreprenerial family-minded biz people. As whanau, these people (in my view) were totally rocking! The website has since made the company earnings private to viewers – but wow! Just know that most of these companies are $20million earners a year (minimum).
Some are $200 million earning (plus) companies per annum. There’s money in making multi-vitamins that boost nutrition and the health industries.
One example of a bigger company is Maat Vitamins. They combine ingredients to make vitamins. They are listed as a ‘custom manufacturer.’
Their markets are: Latin America/Caribbean, Western Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Australia, Europe, Canada and Mexico. Their website is: www.e-maat.com. Maat’s product focus in specializing in being a: Contract manufacturer of vitamins including Ester-C complex with bioflavonoids tablets, vitamin E 400 IU softgels, B-50 complex tablets, vitamin B-6 100 mg tablets, vitamin C 500 tablets, therapeutic vitamin & mineral formula tablets & vitamin B-12 1000 mg sublingual lozenges tablets. Vitamin E tablets help in red-blood cell formation, prevent oxidation of free radicals & treat circulatory problems, lung toxicity, menopause, burns & acne. Vitamin-B tablets balance nerves & endocrine system.
Click on ThomasNet.Com’s website (picture above) to see ideas or products and services you might find useful, to increase your entrepreneurial imagination.
Thanks ThomasNet.Com. Other categories of industry sectors include: Dietary, Food, Health, Herbal & Nutritional Supplements; Vitamins; Nutritional Supplement & Vitamin Contract Manufacturing; Nutraceuticals; Medicinal, Pharmaceutical & Nutraceutical Tablets; Fitness, Sport & Weight Loss Nutritionals; Nutritional Supplement Encapsulation Services; Powder; Tablets; Private Label, Contract Mfg., Contract Packaging, Toll Mfg. & Custom Pharmaceuticals; Amino Acids; Ginseng; Ginkgo Biloba; Echinacea; St. John’s Wort; Saw Palmetto; Herbal Formulas Contract Manufacturing & Packaging, Private Label; Consumer Product Contract Manufacturing; Capsules; Private Label Packaging; Pharmaceutical Packaging; Antioxidants; Bentonite; Botanicals; Gelatin Capsules.
Happy creating, New Zealand. Let’s make Te Ao a healthier, happier and more sustainable place to live in, that’s more humane and ethical. :)
[Nb: Vitamins are a supplement to enhanced health - and should not be viewed in humane societies as substitutes for a nutritious diet of naturallly good and healthy food intake of at least two nutritious meals a day].
