RHETT ELLISON MINESOTA VIKINGS – NFL SPORTS STAR FOOTBALL PROFILE

From playing rugby and cricket at Christchurch’s St Andrew’s College to following in the footsteps of his dad, Rhett Ellison‘s star sports profile is a study. A second-generation Kiwi whose playing NFL football. This time aroud for Minnesota Vikings.

He jokes of noticing the early signs that he was like his dad saying, “I was too tempted to pass the ball forward when I played rugby.” How funny. When I first played Saturday morning rugby at seven, my first game – I scored my first try (in the opposition’s goal line). Lol! Go figure. Doh.  (more…)

BARACK OBAMA’S DNC SPEECH SEPTEMBER 7th 2012

He surfed the wave of renewed, brills momentum. Barack Obama‘s DNC speech 2012. View it right here.

What he said:

“Michelle, I love you. The other night, I think the entire country saw just how lucky I am. Malia and Sasha, you make me so proud but don’t get any ideas, you’re still going to class tomorrow. And Joe Biden, thank you for being the best Vice President I could ever hope for.

Madam Chairwoman, delegates, I accept your nomination for President of the United States.

The first time I addressed this convention in 2004, I was a younger man; a Senate candidate from Illinois who spoke about hope – not blind optimism or wishful thinking, but hope in the face of difficulty; hope in the face of uncertainty; that dogged faith in the future which has pushed this nation forward, even when the odds are great; even when the road is long.

Eight years later, that hope has been tested – by the cost of war; by one of the worst economic crises in history; and by political gridlock that’s left us wondering whether it’s still possible to tackle the challenges of our time.

I know that campaigns can seem small, and even silly. Trivial things become big distractions. Serious issues become sound bites. And the truth gets buried under an avalanche of money and advertising. If you’re sick of hearing me approve this message, believe me – so am I.

But when all is said and done – when you pick up that ballot to vote – you will face the clearest choice of any time in a generation. Over the next few years, big decisions will be made in Washington, on jobs and the economy; taxes and deficits; energy and education; war and peace – decisions that will have a huge impact on our lives and our children’s lives for decades to come. JAN HANSON SHARES “THE GIVING TRIP” VIA LESLEY CARTER’S BLOG

Blogger Lesley Carter shares: The Giving Trip Featured Writer: Executive Director Jan Hanson http://www.200orphanagesworldwide.org/

In early January 2007, I boarded an early morning flight from Minneapolis making my way to Ayacucho, Peru. While boarding the flight to the Andean city, a woman asked in broken English where I was going. I told her I was serving as an international volunteer in Ayacucho. She said, “It’s very poor there.”  That is precisely why I chose to spend two weeks working with orphans in Ayacucho and it was a trip that changed my life forever.

MINNESOTA TWINS JOE MAUER TO MARRY FRIEND MADDIE BISANZ

Joe Mauer, perhaps contemplating how best to pop the question in July. (Tony Gutierrez / AP)

According to Washinton Post Blogger, Cindy Boren: Joe Mauer is engaged; there goes Minnesota’s ‘most eligible bachelor’

Cindy writes: “Joe Mauer, billed as “perhaps” Minnesota’s most eligible bachelor by the St. Paul Pioneer Press, is engaged.

This is wonderful news and a welcome break from NBA trade rumors and the heroic football efforts of Tim Tebow (if he got engaged, the internet would just freeze up and die). His intended is Maddie Bisanz, who appears to have the word “Kardashian” nowhere in her name, which is both a plus and a minus. Bisanz is a nurse.

Mauer, the Minnesota Twins’ catcher and 2009 American League MVP, has known Bisanz since high school and told the Pioneer Press. “I was hoping for a yes and she said yes. I’m getting to marry my best friend.”

The other great thing about this news? It offers the chance to quote a certain baseball movie: “Candlesticks always make a nice gift, and, uh, maybe you could find out where she’s registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern.”

ESPN writes Joe’s now ready for spring. Boston Herald writes that Mauer’s just a luxury commodity, not a necessity (harsh!). And, The Big Lead focuses on Joe’s $184 million pay check heading into his engagement news.

More Importantly - Who is Maddie Bisanz?

[Photo - Maddie Bisanz (left) played an important role as one of bridesmaids at Courtney Craig’s wedding in 2007].

Society EzineMark.Com writes: “Joe Mauer, 28, proposed to his girlfriend, Maddie Bisanz in Florida, where he lives off-season. Maddie Bisanz is a nurse and a former high school classmate of Joe Mauer’s. Both attended Cretin-Durham Hall High School in St. Paul and graduated in 2001. “I was hoping for a yes, and she said yes,” Joe Mauer said when proposing. “I’m getting to marry my best friend.” “A place that is special to both of us,” Joe Mauer shared on Sunday from Florida. “We couldn’t be happier, and we’re both really excited.” Mauer has always been private about his personal life and his dating past, although he was linked to former Miss USA Chelsea Cooley in 2006. Beside the engagement news, Twins star confirmed he fully recovered from pneumonia and plans to be ready to go immediately after the Twins report to spring training in February. In fact, the knees and legs feel good and he made some changes to exercise and eating habits this off-season to try and be better prepared for the season.”

There you have it! Certainly makes a nice change from snorey news like Newt Gingrich is up in the polls, don’t it?! It’s a good thing Joe and Maddie decided to turn out a romance show. I mean, really!

To close out the year like this, It is. :)
