NEW ZEALAND DAY, WAITANGI DAY 2013

Te Arawa Mana Flag

A full sense of nationhoodAlthough the spirit of Waitangi Day lies in honoring Maori inclusion as equal business partners with The Crown each day, Waitangi Day celebrations are “to give us a full sense of nationhood” du jour in agreement for all that New Zealanders as a team are trying to achieve.

To stay in agreement with the principles of Waitangi’s foundational spirit (to see others different to ourselves as equals) is the benchmark of respect in New Zealand that our founding fathers and mothers hoped for, when they as intelligent and adventurous people inked a deal to uphold justice – in the concept of communities evolving and being strong trading partners working together for the good of Aotearoa, NZ.

John Key Titiwhai Harawera Naida Glavish Waitangi Day 2013Prime Minister John Key said, he believed Waitangi Day was a valuable opportunity for discussion and stood by his commitment.

“How will history judge [us]? History will judge [us as New Zealanders] well because [we] come back year after year.”

He also urged the iwi [Ngapuhi] involved in the Te Hiku collective to sort out their differences and move toward a settlement, saying it would inject as much as $200 million into an area that greatly needed it.

Ngapuhi has over 20% of the Maori population. Ironically, the tribe is one of the last to settle with The Crown. So, a timely speech from the PM to Ngapuhi.

ADVENTUROUS NEW ZEALAND

Vikings of the Sun Maori New Zealand

irg42 website says: New Zealand is the youngest country on earth – the last major landmass to be discovered. It has a rich and fascinating history, reflecting both our Maori and European heritage. Amazing Maori historic sites and taonga (treasures), some dating back almost a thousand years, are a contrast to many beautiful colonial buildings. A walk around any New Zealand city today shows what a culturally diverse and fascinating country we have become. The Treaty of Waitangi: In 1840 treaty between Maori and the British Crown is New Zealand’s founding document. Today, the Treaty of Waitangi has a major impact on all New Zealanders. The Youngest Country: Only a thousand years ago, Maori became the first people to migrate to New Zealand. Since then, people have come from around the world to settle here. (more…)

CIRCADIAN RHYTHM SYSTEM SKYLINE GARDEN SALAD

Big City Life
On the twelfth wing platform of the secured rooftop garden circle, David strolled through
the aisle between the rows of lush bountiful green taking what he needed. He altered the
the nutrient blends that feed into the garden's atmos-derived mist jets once a week, according
to his body's shifting eruthrocyte and leukocytes needs. Mesculin, garlic chives and baby kamo kamo
took his fancy today. The sky's light in the setting sun calmed the circadian rhythm system of the
circus called his nerves from the day.  (more…)

KAPA HAKA PRINCIPLES OF EXPRESSION

I find it interesting how opposites attract, yet we were complementary in every way: she was the melody, I was the words and together we were the song. The values they lived by – humility, love, hardwork, loyalty, pride in the things that make Maori, Maori. Kapa Haka (Maori performing arts and community spirit of team) is something about entertainment yet more than that, kapa haka is about family. It’s a way to teach good family values to the next generation as well as teaching them Maoritanga (the values embedded in the linguistic properties of the Maori language), popped open in the cultural atmosphere, every time the language is spoken, expressed and uncontained.

Brad Haami reflects on Kapa Haka’s enthusiasts in a tradition that is centuries strong in New Zealand.

MAORI MEN + POLITICS – GOING FINANCIALLY LITERATE YOUNG ENERGY – 23.1.13

Godfrey Morgan Maui Street

“Strong and vibrant” are words that MP Hone Harawira says need to be on the rise for Maoridom (NZ’s Maori society making up 1 in 7 of population entire). That fact is not reflected in current government operations economic data for 2012. A lot of Maori citizens of NZ were jibbed in the policy flows and media grandstanding gamees oversights last year. so, all of NZ are working on improving it.

Milk Packaging Design

Te Ururoa Flavell should lead the Maori Party, yet it’s up to their supporters to decide that. I never voted for the Maori Party last election. I was present, voting with a friend that did.

NZ needs Maori who can run business models, read financial reports, project future earnings of real regional wealth creation plans for Maori and all New Zealanders strongly in politics – especially for youth. Maori have to lead a strong youth incentives charge economically in 2013. To not do so, would be a bit WTF!  (more…)

NEW WRITER LESLEY RAIN IS SO TALENTED

Lesley Rain Walker

Q. Do all Maori write as much as you do?

A. Probably not. I tend to cut and paste more than write. Those writers who do write original songs, stories, poetry, novels, websites, news are pretty amazing. Maori are quite creative clever when able. A new writer, Lesley Rain is a twenty-something Maori writer. She’s pretty talented with Maori prose in English.

SCIENCE WORDS – EDUCATOR OCEAN MERCIER 2013

Ocean Mercer Maori Scientist is a bit spesh 2013
Maori world views within the scientific community are important and celebrated the people and ideas delivering an edge in the world of science. Maori have always been scientists and continue to be scientists. Our brand of science maybe a little different from Western science but, nonetheless, it allowed us to work in the world, to be in the world, to live in the world, to survive in the world for generations.

“It is expression [that] we are part of the culture of New Zealand… Scott Base has a place in the hearts and minds of New Zealanders, even if they haven’t visited here. To have this representation here is a lovely touch.”

56 years after New Zealand settled into Ross Island, Ngai Tahu’s Mark Solomon and NZ’s John Key speak in Artactica unveiling Ngai Tahu Maori artwork sculpture made of West Coast totara. The sculpture of cultural significance was placed next to the New Zealand flagpole that Sir Edmund Hillary put up in 1957 to mark the opening of Scott base on Ross Island.

COMBATING RACISM IN NZ – THE DISMANTLING OF MAORI SOCIETY & LEADERSHIP MUST STOP

Maori Boy Genis Volume One

In 2012 NZ leadership was attacked and semi-dismantled.

We see key politicians (Maori’s most senior political spokespeople) announcing intended resignations.

A clear Maori political voice on an equal level of economic prosperity for all Maori has not been allowed to be voiced in the land. It is not right, just, balanced or fair. It is also not in line with New Zealand’s founding spirit.

We see leading Maori politicians, thrown to angry middle class white folk to attack all too often ’for entertainment.’ They are used as distractions for people to vent frustration on, the Maori politicians time and attention diverted from doing a good job for Maori people, and thus all NZ’s best interests of the present and future.

We see unjust and meagre Treaty settlement offers presented to Maori. The apologies associated are worth a lot to Maori, yet the disrespect towards Iwi is continuing in business flows throughout a lot of NZ and the way resources are being allocated, used for profit.    (more…)

CULTURAL MOTIVATION & BELIEF SYSTEM – EDUCATION, MEDICINE & DR. HINEMOA ELDER

Hinemoa Elder NZPA

“Your belief system, your commitment to medicine and your cultural motivation,” are factors that make good New Zealand doctors today.

Hinemoa Elder is the no.1 most requested New Zealand person on the website today. That’s amazing! Hinemoa was a well known TV talent who went to Med School later in life than most younger students she studied with. She graduated.

Today, New Zealand still needs more Maori and Pasifika Med Students enrolling at most universities in NZ.

SOME MOTHERS DO HAVE ‘EM – FEEDING THE FUTURE LEADERS TAMARIKI WITH GOOD POLICY PLANNING

Some Mothers Do Have Em The WHANAU New Zealand

Some mothers do have ‘em… I for one am glad they did.

What’s on our minds in New Zealand is feeding the future leaders. Ensuring their futures don’t get encroached upon without the future leaders of existing NZ citizens having say, knowledge with truthful information as to how they see the direction of their own NZ heading.

Seriously though: Aren’t this lot the happiest birthday peoples ever?! Too much fun.

V – PART II – WAITING ON PROPHESIES

V Part II Prophesy Moana and The Tribe

We are… we are… we are…

Waiting on… prophesies.

–song lyrics: Moana Maniapoto MNZM & The Tribe.

image: instagram models

Written in the skies, Maori people have always read identity and gleaned knowledge via how prophesy is communicated to us, in various forms of expression. It’s a part of who we are, who Aotearoa is, has always been and what New Zealand is to come. Polynesia peoples also have stories of the same in their original home whenua lands.

MARGARET ORBELL’S ACADEMIC RESEARCH IN MAORI LANGUAGE & POLYNESIA LANGUAGES

“No other Polynesian language has as many words in its vocabulary as the Maori language. Maori are intelligent, creative people.

The landscapes Maori saw and discovered in Aotearoa (New Zealand) centuries ago, gave rise to creating an expansive vocabularly, a deeply poetic language with profound philosophical meaning.”

–linguist and academic researcher, Margaret Orbell, 1997, Auckland City.
