About The Book 2052: Forty years ago, The Limits to Growth study addressed the grand question of how humans would adapt to the physical limitations of planet Earth. It predicted that during the first half of the 21st century the ongoing growth in the human ecological footprint would stop-either through catastrophic “overshoot and collapse”-or through well-managed “peak and decline.”

So, where are we now? And what does our future look like? In the book 2052, Jorgen Randers, one of the co-authors of Limits to Growth, issues a progress report and makes a forecast for the next forty years. To do this, he asked dozens of experts to weigh in with their best predictions on how our economies, energy supplies, natural resources, climate, food, fisheries, militaries, political divisions, cities, psyches, and more will take shape in the coming decades. He then synthesized those scenarios into a global forecast of life as we will most likely know it in the years ahead.

The good news: we will see impressive advances in resource efficiency, and an increasing focus on human well-being rather than on per capita income growth. But this change might not come as we expect. Future growth in population and GDP, for instance, will be constrained in surprising ways-by rapid fertility decline as result of increased urbanization, productivity decline as a result of social unrest, and continuing poverty among the poorest 2 billion world citizens. Runaway global warming, too, is likely.

So, how do we prepare for the years ahead? With heart, fact, and wisdom, Randers guides us along a realistic path into the future and discusses what readers can do to ensure a better life for themselves and their children during the increasing turmoil of the next forty years.

FILM FRANCHISE PRODUCTION GROWTH NEW ZEALAND – INVESTING IN KIWI WRITERS & SCREENWRITERS IS THE KEY

There is nothing more powerful than ideas whose time has come.

Victor Hugo.

There is nothing more powerful than ideas whose time has come,
filmed on landscapes that are resources rich. ImagiNATIVE writers are the world's first
architects of a future new world and new frontier.

–The way of global film sales marketing patterns observed over a few years now.

The pen is mightier than the sword.

Winston Churchill as a writer, storyteller, peace maker and boozy warrior leader.

Developing a sustainable film industry in New Zealand really comes down to investing in New Zealand writers more and fostering relationships with the world’s best screenwriters too. It is vital that New Zealand encourages writers, as writers become the billionaires after all the effort has gone into producing successful film franchises. We need some Maori billionaires in New Zealand. Maybe some could write their way into the history books invisaging a cinematic light to project the new way.

We must write films from New Zealand, as if we don’t other people’s written ideas of the South Pacific, will be written about our territory. So, it makes sense to always be writing our own version of the world and attaching our definitions and meanings of landscape of the South Pacific to our own words and ideas in our films. We can write futuristic films, yet the messages in them attached to our landscapes have a resonance all over the world for the good.

We have the locations and enough filmmaking capability now in New Zealand. We just need better scripts, film franchise ideas created in New Zealand and a belief in fast tracking screen-writers to a global level of writing ability. Film crews travel (actors included) to where whoever has the best ideas - to collaborate on – film projects of significance.

New Zealand is soon to become that place even more so, then we have been already on some major film projects.

So what kinds of writers could happen in New Zealand? As a precursor to Mitt Romney‘s rise in politics as a star figure for the US, novelist Stephenie Meyer was a Mormon housewife of Arizona, who mimicked the UK’s JK Rowlings star template as a novelist.

Meyer’s story as a humble writer is one of a stand out success for relativiely new billionaires. Meyer’s novel ideas, even created a brand new studio to make her novels into films. It was then aquired by Lionsgate to import a strong youth audience following into Lionsgate’s entertainment brand.

The young actors cast in Meyer’s films now lead California’s box office (Kristen Stewart being one). JK of course, mimicked Brit authors like C.S Lewis and JRR Tolkien to find her own voice as a single parent writer. Magic was JK’s theme of children learning at school. Meyer’s was a voice of fantasy, romance, angst – youth under threat. Meyer’s creative literary bent, was a huge hit.

What this tells us: Perhaps we need to invest in single parents and-or Kiwi housewives more. (more…)

“BLACK JK3″ – FRASER, STEWART, KEROUAC

There is only one Brooke Fraser, a uniquely-souled artist. There is only one Kristen Stewart, born and raised into a hard working, film crew family of California. A young lady, whose every quirks and turns of angst, are played out in the public and carry the box office of Los Angeles on her young shoulders.

Finally, there was also only one Jack Kerouac, a free-form literary artist, not afraid to break all the rules, splash his words across a page in a way that was like a liteary x-ray of science and creation fused together when creation is made.

Without chaos, there is no new life. In a world established on order, Kerouac embraced chaos. He was a misfit of the page, yet his art mirroring rare artists like The Beatles music songwriting trajectory, Jackson Pollack breaking art’s rules too, Kerouac and his contemporaries changed consciousness.

Their effect as artists would also open up new frontiers and create new economies and ways of percieving the great gift we should all treasure, life’s fun flow.

So, here’s a piece of Fraser, Stewart, Kerouac in this one post.

TO THIS DAY RIGHT – WE GOT THE BEAT

On Sunset & La Brea,
all the beautiful, crazy Hollywood
kids wanna do, is have some fun
in the sun at Malibu by day.

At night, we hit the strip,
showing off the beach tan,
at the clubs sippin on bub
with Hermantown dj-spun fans.

On the way home, a pit stop
at In N' Out, for burger Cali smiles.

Singing The Go Go's, We Got The Beat
home grown tunes, in the convertable cues.

Like sister Suzie K taught me on Day One,
I still get mine, all animal styles huge,
with my fresh pressed potato fries.

A double double with cheese, to this day right,
and extra ketchup please.

In the morning, it's Starbucks on Melrose,
for a total change of funky visual scene.

Of course we were in our thirties,
still being crazy Hollywood kids.

WRITING STARS IN ON THE ROAD PREVIEW AUGUST 2012

Set to the kind of jazzy, percussive music that gave the Beat Generation its name, the preview of Kristen Stewart‘s brand new Jack Kerouac homage film offers no dialogue. Kerouac’s writings instead star in the opening moving clip, indicating an appreciation of literature for a younger generation still to learn of who this man was as an American auteur of young adults culture and art.

In New Zealand at Auckland City, I studied his writings at college as a freshman in poetry class. Hollywood Reporter has more.

K-Stew is looking pretty gorgey in this movie still. Kirsten Dunst also stars as does Viggo Mortensen as Old Bull Lee. Full cast list  @IMDB.

ROM-COM SCREENWRITER, ESSAYIST NORA EPHRON DIES OF LEUKEMIA, AGED 71

[Photographer: Jonathan Wenk for Columbia Pictures - Meryl Streep withNora Ephron and crew on a film set].

When Harry Met Sally the film for single adults about faking an orgasm as comedy, and its writer, who penned When Harry Met Sally around email coms invention – once inspired the world about dating and romance. Her name wasNorah Ephron.

The New York Times, takes the time today to honor a thinker.Charles McGrathbrings the report:

Nora Ephron, an essayist and humorist in the Dorothy Parker mold (only smarter and funnier, some said) who became one of her era’s most successful screenwriters and filmmakers, making romantic comedy hits like “Sleepless in Seattle” and “When Harry Met Sally,” died Tuesday night in Manhattan. She was 71.”

The paper adds: “The cause was pneumonia brought on by acute myeloid leukemia, her son Jacob Bernstein said.

In a commencement address she delivered in 1996 at Wellesley College, her alma mater, Ms. Ephron recalled that women of her generation weren’t expected to do much of anything. But she wound up having several careers, all of them successfully and many of them simultaneously.”

She’s an example of how women are often so much more capable and smarter than us dumb blokes, surviving on much less credit, thus being way more efficient and effective in many societies as our unsung heroes of the world.

If you’re a Sleepless in Seattle fan, more at the screenwriter’s tap.

[Thank you for the idea of romantic possibilities with much humor].

[Photo - Aunty Elvi's typewriter, Westwood, California. Photo: Author's Own].

Norah died the day after Facebook announced they’ve appointed their first female director to their board to address the gender inequality in their company’s management structure. Facebook has 600 million people on their “books,” with the most of these being women.

IS ARIZONA CENSORING THE INTERNET TOO MUCH IN NEW LEGISLATION?

In the new Arizona House Bill 2549, proposed legislation that would make it unlawful for anyone to post messages “with intent to terrify, intimidate, threaten, harass, annoy or offend,” passed both the House and Senate in nearly unanimous votes last week. The bill is reportedly being tinkered with by legislators before being passed to Gov. Jan Brewer.

Bill co-author, Chad Campbell somone said: “There was no intention to trample on the First Amendment. We still believe that it wouldn’t do so, that we as a state legislature can’t override the First Amendment. But let me just say if there are some concerns, we have time to fix it and we’re more than willing to fix it.”

How does Arizona feel about this law? Good, bad, ugly? Needed or not?

Arizona’s most famous person, author Stephenie Meyer wouldn’t be the success she is today, had it not been for people commenting on blogs, websites blah blah blah that helped make her vision created in Arizona for audiences worldwide, become more well known and such a hit not only for Arizona but the USA. That’s just one example to note here. Then again, if you’ve ever read many US chat threads, they are often full of so much venom as they’re penned by a bunch of haters – you’d never want to visit the US -so perhaps this law is called for?!
