I notice on CNN today, that Disneyland’s favorite “serial pirate” for American film franchises off shore facilitation of sales, Johnny Depp is talking up the life of Francis S. Thompson. Strange. I associate Johnny to “life in Paris” or The Viper Room’s founder.
So, reading Francis S Thompson’s Anthology today, I couldn’t help but notice in Hunter’s Swine of The Week chapter (page 907), Gerneration Swine this quote from Sam Coleridge. It reminded me of beaches-trauma on the East Coast, local time.

JOHNNY DEPP AND ANGELINA JOLIE LEAD GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS
World News: Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck say they’re touched and honored to be nominated for several Golden Globe awards for their film The Tourist in the best picture, best musical comedy actor and actress.
Depp, also earned a nod for Alice in Wonderland said he was”very touched” by the double nomination.
Jolie said to be nominated was an honor, then with humor added “we were laughing because it’s the first time that I’ve been in the comedic category so it’s new for me.”
German director von Donnersmarck said he was happy with the nomination for “The Tourist,” his second film, which opened in the U.S. last week to generally poor reviews.
Not to worry, in tough times, people like to take down the big guns. It makes them feel better. Outside of the US, it will be a different story for this film, no doubt.

America’s no.1 celebrity ranking actor last year Johnny Depp has a few things to say about Disney, Angelina Jolie, Marlon Brando and Liz Taylor in his Vanity Fair interview. Read this:
Johnny Depp on his “Jack Sparrow” and Disney thinking Pirates of The Caribbean was a little gay: “They couldn’t stand him. They just couldn’t stand him. I think it was Michael Eisner, the head of Disney at the time, who was quoted as saying, ‘He’s ruining the movie.’ Upper-echelon Disney-ites, going, What’s wrong with him? Is he, you know, like some kind of weird simpleton? Is he drunk? By the way, is he gay?… And so I actually told this woman who was the Disney-ite… ‘But didn’t you know that all my characters are gay?’ Which really made her nervous.”
Depp on Shakespeare, Marlon Brando’s Influence & Hamlet: “[Marlon Brando said,] Why don’t you just take a year and go and study Shakespeare, or go and study Hamlet. celebrity buzzwords: Julian Assange Vs Angelina Jolie, now Vs Rihanna.
As humans, as people–we look over the fence at our neighbors, in a game of keeping up with the Joneses. The fear of being left behind, or missing out–is the basis of spying–be that polite, or secretive in the form of Espionage.
In fact, there is no trend-setting ability of leaders (fashions mimic others by spying), without observing what peers are doing, than advancing new or similar forms and better ways of doing things.
But when does research–verge into Espionage? Where is that line? Or does it not exist anymore in an age of new technology? The WikiLeaks case gives us all time to discuss that–on Facebook, a community far bigger than WikiLeaks, holding more information about individuals, than WikiLeaks ever could claim to hold.
Julian Assange of Wikileaks is the pin up boy of “Common Similarities between the US and the UK” that still exist today. Will this one man’s fate be decided by a US/ UK jury? His crime? He is a spy of spies because he owned IT that could track others spying tendencies in an obsessively voyeuristic political digital age–where most people don’t even watch politicians in the world, at all. Only other politicians do? Julian shared these politicians favorite (digital) media to read with other media. Anyway,
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Espionage is defined as being: ”the practice of spying or using spies to obtain information about the plans and activities especially of a foreign government or a competing company.” The origins of espionage is French, as in:
“French espionnage, from Middle French, from espionner to spy, from espion spy, from Old Italian spione, from spia, of Germanic origin; akin to Old High German spehōn to spy. First Known Use: 1793.”
We are also encouraged to look at the word “spy” as in: “to watch secretly, usually for hostile purposes; and, to catch sight of or, SEE. Spying is the active activity of espionage. Who really, has time to do that? No one whose creative that’s for sure, only people copy, others creativity. (I’m a blogger, so at times I can be accused of that. Just saying).
The Espionage Act: According to the UK Guardian: “The US Espionage Act is a little-used law dating from 1911 – the same year as the UK’s Official Secrets Act, with which it has much in common.”
The current law can be used to prosecute those who leak and publish classified information that creates a national security risk. The law’s purpose is to tackle espionage. It has never been used on foreign press or any media organization before.

JOHNNY DEPP AND ANGELINA JOLIE – TWO HOLLYWOOD KIDS ON A BILLBOARD
While getting coffee this morning, I noticed Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie‘s new billboard for The Tourist. It’s in a pretty spot, where traffic banks up at lights and where the sky is always blue.
Their new movie incites travel–creates a strong image of the American abroad learning new things. A minority in a new culture – whose also not afraid to explore new terrain. Think Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman to get a sense of this Hollywood internationale vibe. In their new film The Tourist: “The story revolves around Frank, an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path.”
That’s the latest from these two leading box office heavyweight kids of Hollywood town. I call them ‘billboard kids’ because, if you’re an actor on a billboard, you’re forever cast as a child in Hollywood.
Perhaps only living overseas, gives you the chance to grow up and live an adult life. Even if for a while, you are perpetually cast as a Tourist with an accent. As long as you’re on a billboard anywhere in the World but especially Hollywood, the town wants you to play the role of a child for it. Your job? To say: notice me, love me, play with me, go and see my movie for my high school (studio) I represent. Follow me.
A billboard is actually a physical manifestation of “twitter culture,” “facebook culture” even of a blog too with a following. A sign of our times in which we live, where people want their life to count, mean something, not get lost in an age of social media where –”visibility equates to credibility.” Period.
However, a Hollywood billboard is serious star status material. Money has been spent on the real estate. Billboard real estate is big biz in Hollywood, especially on The Sunset Strip of West Hollywood.
A-List actors promoting a movie, are like politicians campaigning for the popular vote of elections. When on a billboard, they just never appear to grow up. If you realize this, that there’s no escaping this rhetoric of any campaign that involves a media format (like a Hollywood billboard) — than the featured actors or political actors who never take themselves too seriously in this game of promotion, and who just produce images of fun (or beauty and strength as Angelina is here)–are the best at the game. Fun sells.
People need it. Always do fun bold pictures, I reckon. Can’t beat a smile in these times. Unless you’re Jolie, a pout provides variety to all of the smilers. She does it the best.
Johnny and Angelina are Hollywood’s two leading stars who provide star presence in the hood anywhere they appear. They know how to exist both within Hollywood and then go offshore and live their lives while dipping back in to Tinsel Town to make their money. They give Hollywood its current meaning as ‘A City of Stars’ even if they’re not here most of the year.
They’re ghosts, magicians in this regard, using billboard culture or the press to appear to be present. They’re the top of the pops at the promotions and publicity game. Big bucks.
I included trees with this billboard, because green is really the star of us all too. You know it. Enjoy the view in case this billboard never makes it to your town or your neighborhood in the world. You’ll always have trees beside you, as a reminder to think green to be a star too. :)

EZRA POUND, A POET AND JOHNNY DEPP FOR EMPIRE MAGAZINE
I had this creative-cazy thought today about how much Johnny Depp (pictured here in character as Jack Sparrow) looks so much like Ezra Pound, the American poet (in Ezra’s poet days not his weird politics days). If I had met Pound in his latter days, I probably would have shot him. He was a Jew hater. I am not. Just kidding. Anyway, the fact that Ezra looks so much like Johnny today is like, a trip. Politically, Ezra Pound was also like China’s current President, Hu Jintao – you know, a communist. Yet his likeness in this photograph to current box office Hollywood star’s look, does deserve a mention today. In fact–

I still can’t believe how much money Johnny Depp has hauled in for Disney in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, that’s still rocking. Can you? All the while Johnny is essentially playing The Rolling Stones‘ Keith Richards of The U.K, and raising his family in the South of France. He’s a true blue global superstar is our Johnny!
With an artistic sense of humor like this, Depp continues to just rock on as Hollywood’s leading lad in that knowing entertaining way! Props for Johnny’s schematic pattern of method acting in extraordinaire proportions. Like a Hollywood trend in furthering the proven arts of the greats, let’s jump to that!
