Janet Jackson and family rocked out to Gary Indiana, to remember what would have been music star Michael Jackson‘s 54th B’day. Living in LA when MJ died was one of the surrealist moments in life. Los Angeles played his music non-stop for a week or more. It was MJ boom box car wars in drive time – where USA’s hits are decided first, nationwide and are boomed out to the world from LA.
On the sides of LA’s most prominent buildings, biz owners projected images of the late King of Pop dancing his dance moves that had changed music entertainment worldwide. Jackson had also invented music awards shows template of entertainers and also music tours technology too. He did so much.
When LA turned on an MJ show across the cityscape, in that moment, you really knew LA had a King. It was spontaneous, no one had orchestrated the show. Yet a city who entertained just knew what to do. Totally surreal. He was for the people and of the people and the people responded back that week.
At the time, MJ’s absence swung to popstar Rihanna‘s rising star. LA clubs interspersed MJ hits with Riri’s and so a foreigner of the USA’s star was sealed in Rihanna’s legacy to LA too who was also following in the footsteps of Janet. It wasn’t acknowledged by all in the USA at the time, however there was no star greater than Michael Jackson in the USA until he died. (more…)

Here’s Ricki-Lee‘s full video of Do it Like That.
She’s definitely on military recruiting, USA hot dog serving (kinda), and dancing in the club duties… this kid!
Her look? A young – Delta Goodrem, Schapelle Corby & Julia Gillard all meshed together as one. Not bad!
Her music styling? Beyonce (Get Bodied) meets J-Lo in the Australian hood.
Her dance choreography? A milder respectful nod to the choreography-history of Janet Jackson & Beyonce.
What a cutie-pie. Watch.

In NZ, we never really grew up in the shadow of the Cab Galloway music legacy from his Harlem Cotton Club jazz, heady days.
However, in NZ, we did get Janet Jackson‘s version of what Cab G gifted the world as a breakthrough popular African-American artist.

Hot concerts are ahead with true American pop cultural royalty! Janet Jackson is the best concert experience I’ve ever been too in my life. I saw Janet in Auckland City with Trinity Dodd many years ago. She popped!
She’s lookin good.

Jen of American Apparel is a native born Angeleno who has also lived in New York. Jen likes California better. Must be the beautiful climate.
Her day was a little rough today. Jen’s dealing with that corporate email that was sent out on mass, with her name as one of the recipients that says: “Effective, immediately, no more commission.”
As that’s not what Jen signed up for when she took the job and she’s a smart girl who says she needs to pay her rent, and the new conditions won’t see her being able to do that any more. Jen’s not having it.
Good for you Jen! Good luck on the job hunting front from here.
Jen’s just started online dating. A big step for her. So we just talked through the perils of that. In my experience of that in L.A, it could tend to leave you empty (that’s a whole other novel – not really worth being published, at this point!).
Yet Jen and I both agree that it doesn’t really matter how you meet people, it’s more how you treat them and each other when you do meet. The California rule of “You pony up, I pony up, You pony up, I pony up” always should be observed in any good relationship, each day. If that relationship is not observed like a link in a jewelry chain for example, you’re not actually in a relationship. Jen was like “wow, that’s awesome. So true.”
Jen brings out every suppressed paternal instinct in me, whereby I just want to march into those corporate offices of American Apparel and give them a good talking to, or just intimate I could ‘slightly bruise’ the face of the last online boy who would ever contemplate breaking this sweet girl’s heart. You know, it can be a scary and insincere world in an age of online dating and Facebook culture. Yet, this is Jen’s reality today as a Cali girl making new opportunities in her L.A.
Once we discussed that the “pony up” aesthetic of relationship link building is established and going on day-by-day, I advise Jen that every American girl should ‘go black’ and throw in a wild card into their relationship mix every now and again- by taking a note from the musical diaries of American pop music royalty, Janet Jackson to provide a reality check. Namely, in the form of the question raised by Ms. Janet Jackson with her dance choreographer/ current reality TV star Paula Abdul, many years ago as expressed in this song below.
Jen is so sweet and cute, I want to put her in my pocket as a mini-Hobbit girl from New Zealand or something. Look at that open honest face. Adorable!

Remember when Gwen Stefani attended the Oscars? –Vanity Fair classic photograph.
Does the Skins TV series on MTV, exploit kids in a pornographic way at the hand of TV producers? And why are children increasingly becoming more voyeured by an old order of America? I don’t like it. There’s an over-fixation on living forever, not rooted in a true spiritual sense of possibility. Kids get vampired. I know Chinese officials are mad about dating teenagers – but why show cultural match in this way to China with such TV shows – making this kind of entertainment okay at the expense of American teens? Not cool.
The Situation‘s smarter new look.
Warren Buffet Leaving Washington Post Board. Interesting.
Snooki & Jwow‘s MTV reality TV series producers think up the next gimmick to keep these girls going. Doh! A location change. Lazy TV producing.
What Chelsea Handler can do for New Zealand television getting more relevant.
In their game of ‘Call in the UK Ring Ins’ - Ricky Gervais talks politics to Piers Morgan. It makes the US seem too OOC to be handled by Americans, this whole rhetoric, quite frankly. That’s all this gimmick is achieving. These lads are getting paid mega bucks to do just that with shaping American perception.
David Spade is now cross-dressing in his next Hollywood film. He’s very Joanna Lumley.

Janet Jackson provides the best concert experiences you’ll ever see. The performing diva of the Jackson Family Entertainment Empire has announced she’s touring the US with her no.1′s hit material. Billboard reports: Up Close & Personal is how Janet will roll. Early march is when Ms Jackson will kick off her superstar tour.
To heat up the Jackson family brand of entertainment angling towards Vegas institutionalism, Ms Jackson will start her 8 weeks of touring in Vegas and finish the tour in Vegas also.
Having seen Janet and Michael both live in concert in New Zealand, Janet I have to say, was the best concert I’ve ever seen. She pops! I mean, she’s a Jackson!!! True blue self-made American music royalty.
At the time of writing it is impossible to get on Janet’s website. She too hot.

According to The National Enquirer (one of the most dramatic newspapers in the game) David Arquette and Courtney Cox are in marriage counseling in an effort to save their marriage.
Reconciliation if possible is usually smart. If possible. So good on them!
By the way, The Post are normally known for given the lovable Oprah Winfrey her darker side of humor with the ridiculous scandals they run on her. Obviously Oprah finds these amusing otherwise she would have sued these guys a gazillion moons ago. The latest Oprah scandal running is this headline: Janet Jackson hates Oprah Winfrey’s Guts. Lol!
Allegedly Oprah’s interview with MJ’s kids is what the blow up was over. As if!
MJ’s 3 kids are in direct competition with Justin Bieber –with these four kids selling merch, so they need to do press about now. Oprah’s final season is the best spot for MJ’s kids to appear on, so it’s hardly likely Aunt Janet is mad with Oprah at all. In TV land that’s still top billing.

As a leader I love her because she can listen and divide matters fairly. In this regard she’s just like her grandma, Lady Thorp–Horiwood on Trinity Brooke’s fearless leadership skills.
Trinity Brooke of rugby royalty has a beaming smile today as she hangs out with some girlfriends for a bit of socialite time in the U.K. She is the grandchild of Lady Patricia Thorp, the sweetest woman who served Auckland City on The Council looking after the environment. That was Lady Thorp’s hot thing, amongst many. As a leader, Brooke is a young lady I trust. She’s always worthy of spotlight and she’s a pearla.
When it comes to entertainment trends, Trinity has the best tastes. She grew up with women the ilk of Debbie Harwood singing impromptu (no bands, no palava just real true fearless Kiwi talent) around her dinner table, as a kid growing up in New Zealand, so you can’t blame Trin really. She’s the real deal Pasifika knowing Kiwi girl. Impeccable taste.
Trinity and myself, thanks to Lady Thorp, both went together to see Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson perform live in concert, because Patricia was like that. If someone was talented with a message people needed to see and hear and feel, Patricia was the all for the talented person in the world. I still thank her for her gifts of leadership today, that Trinity Brooke now also carries so richly in her young life. Trinity Brooke is special. She knows the ways and I know that Trinity does. Women of action. Can’t be beat.
When we last caught up with Trinity, she’d recently given birth to baby Oscar Brooke and then had launched right on into a wee triathlon excursion. Kiwi’s–we’re full on!
Trinity is all about health and fitness. Actually this girl always has been as far as I can recall. Love her. She’s a fine basketball player and netball player too.
What a gorgeous Maori-Kiwi smile. Full beam ahead then. Hey Trin. :)
[Trinity Brooke is proudly of the Ngati Awa Maori tribe and also of Matakana Island Maori tribal affiliations too. Now based in London, Brooke is from Auckland the Supercity and has fun family in Melbourne Australia too. Image Trinity's own. Amy Te Whetu is pictured with Trinity on the right. Go Maori-Kiwi girl's in the UK!]

Watch clip here.
FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, laid all her American dance moves aside and leaped into some new fun and learning, dancing with young people in India.
Their traditional music, is a little bit hip, as reflected in this dance video too of Beyonce dancing at a block party with arms raised, Indian style also. (Kylie Minogue‘s arm/ hand movements choreography from her new music video Get Outta My Way, a few weeks before Beyonce was filmed, doing Indian-styled hip hop choregraphy, also reflects the same trait. Hands expression in dance is India).
Nice cross-cultural similarities being found and created right now in world history (in arts and cultural performing arts) between America and India with Mrs Obama. Quite novel really, who ever would have thought?
Also Britney Spears Bollywood choreography in her Circus World Tour was also a forward-thinking example of this. The most successful cross-over American artist in India’s history is Michael Jackson (1/4 of all music download in India, is that of MJ’s). Nice to see Michelle Obama going after the Jackson golden trail of cultural appeal that Indians like… in the dance of life that in universally shared by us all.
Janet Jackson also demonstrated this in her no. 1 hit, Runaway -the music video,15-years ago for American women crossing over into India by paying tribute and respect to Indian women’s legacy of dance as performing artists. That clip below. Michelle Obama makes it look so natural and easy for America to dance Indian. Love it, just like the world loves Janet doing the same thing. Mrs Obama is the first First Lady of America to do this. Go Michelle!:
Of course, being a Kiwi I ask the question, what would Bollywood musicals choreography look like, filmed in the colorful magic of 3D cinematic mastery? Now there’s the future of cinema and musical cinema(s) bridge-building cross-culturally smart, right there. A part of it, anyway. Peter Jackson directing a simulation of the Taj Mahal imagery in 3D could be quite hot, when filming action and choreography. Watching Mrs Obama perform in the above clip also reminds me of Avondale, a city in Auckland The Supercity and the culturally rich Kiwi-Indian community of New Zealand. Love them.

Alrighty, I am still obsessing on the fact that Michael Jackson as a brand to entertain, still rocks on, because his architecture as an entertaining King, has a life force of it’s own–with or without him.
That’s nuts. For a fragile dude, he sure built a solid kingdom of entertainment to model. Look at this stuff fly. It’s the real deal of a King. Dance is celebrated in these images of art and performance. Monarch butterflies and Doves feature too.
These are the symbols that Jackson’s children and Miss Janet Jackson – MJ’s sister, are presenting to his fans and the world.
There is no more successful American who proved they could cross over and appeal to India, like Michael Jackson. He “lived beyond color lines, geographical borders and boundaries” to paraphrase his sister’s Rhythm Nation lyrics.
He was cross-cultural, all people he saw as being the same. As a culture maker, and America’s King of Pop he saw his role as creating symbology for his fans, so that they could have a sense of global culture that resonated with them all.
Seriously though, as New Zealand is the nation that creates Jackson-Taylor Monarchs in 3D in the 2010′s of cinema mastery –we perhaps need a ‘royal cinematic meeting of entertainment minds’ with one of MJ’s kids or his nieces or nephews (we’re not fussy), to star in our Hobbit films, to cement that point. What a cool idea.
Let me play ‘stand in’ Hollywood casting agent on this one… We’ll go for Blanket Jackson thanks, as a Hobbit prince of Latino descent. :)Having seen both Michael and Janet Jackson both perform live in concert in Auckland at Mt Smart Stadium, New Zealand with friend, Trinity Brooke, I think Blanket would rock, following in the footsteps of the family, in a Hobbit film shot in 3D and Middle Earth. Imagine that! A real Jackson Hobbit too. Perfect!
Enjoy these images, from Blanket’s Estates’ one page ad in the LA Times today. A paper that services a city and associated cities of 20 million people.

A day after the midterm elections have not fared well for President Barack Obama‘s Dems government, Janet Jackson (mainly, The Jackson Estate) start up their PR machine, for the next MJ themed venture.
a) When Michael Jackson passed away, President Obama was noticeably one of the last leaders to acknowledge MJ’s passing. Jackson, though veiled in controversy, was the ‘real’ hidden black king of American celebrity then. My own personal view, was that Obama should have acknowledged MJ and his contribution to American life, immediately. He chose not to, finally releasing a short paragraph press statement about MJ. The Jackson family held their tongues on the issue opting to have Martin Luther King‘s children speak at their brother’s memorial service, to make a statement about MJ’s trailblazing path for all African-Americans in the world. MJ was the third most well known person on the planet, after The Queen of England and The Pope of the Catholic Church.
In India, given India’s rich tradition of Bollywood artists and folklore too, of millions of singing dancing people and talented songwriters in Hindu, Jackson in responsible for 24% of all songs ever downloaded in India. Or, as an American celebrity, companies like Apple, Microsoft, anyone in the IT music downloading biz, still owe a huge debt to Jackson. Off the back of his sound and music and presence in a nation with 1/6th of the world’s population, all American music is sold into this market.
b) Always a woman of taste and grace, Janet Jackson, has not been photographed with the Obamas, but this is her response today, on behalf of the Jackson Camp. A full page ad in the Los Angeles times, of the latest entertainment showcase to emerge from her brother’s ‘ghost’ or his life story. She makes her statement along with the Jackson family, for their America, their fan base kingdom here and abroad, with the announcement of a Cirque du Solais show. Love how she rolls. So dignified.
Show not tell. In these images we see, what a black king is all about. The Jackson estate remind the world, what a proven King is about. Fun, imagination, play, creating images of liberty and freedom. This sells. Makes money, grows an economy while making people happy.
The monarch butterfly is an image, Jackson created so many different pictures about in his performances as an artist. The message, is always, UP! Spread your wings then. Don’t be afraid to fly. Especially down to New Zealand, for a little hot vacation down. Kiwi’s are Fun!!!
Thanks Janet Jackson and family for the years of quality entertainment and powerful messages that have amused, inspired, fed the world too from American shores as well as within it. MJ was a flawed yet fascinating King of Pop. As I repeatedly say on this blog – he is still the template cutter of all stars, in the American entertainment industry. It’s his model entertainers follow when mimicking the money trail he created of successful entertainment distribution.
What I liked about him personally was the he was moving into 3D on the eve of his death and before his world tour. As a Maori-Kiwi who lives in MH’s city and state of California, that resonates with me. His monarchy, was going in the direction of 3D. As a Kiwi, I take his monarch symbol of his favorite butterfly image as a symbol of ‘royalty.’ In the mode of US celebrity–I own it, for the New Zealand 3D filmmaking industry. It’s ours now too, along with the buzzy bee made from wood, a toy for infants and children, that Princess Dianna associated with her son Prince William Windsor, when she revealed him to the World at Waitangi, birth place of Middle Earth’s origins of early hobbit law. A monarch butterfly and a buzzy bee are both playful icons representing “sweetness hunters,” drawn to nectar and honey. Sweet good people like these symbols.
Monarchy in 3D is Kiwi and US!
Thanks Janet Jackson! And family. Anaheim (Disneyland country, is where Jackson’s first Cirque show will play. (Peter Pan reference). It also must be noted, this advertisement is the only full color add in the newspaper that services 20 million people of California for news. Um, that’s like the size of 4 1/2 times my country. Wow! I still haven’t got over that one yet. UP! in 3D! then.
