A COLD OCEAN DIP
In New Zealand, Maori people have swum in New Zealand’s ocean for over 1000 years.
Today in one of the local tabloids of NZ, health benefits of a cold ocean dip are explained. Healthy and strong. Read on.
What’s groovy about swimming in NZ, is that you don’t have to battle traffic. In LA it could take 45mins on a good day to get to the ocean. Venice and Santa Monica were my two favorite spots to swim at in the LA hood. Malibu was more of a mission, yet well worth it once there. I have yet to swim as much in the ocean in NZ as I did in California. The moana (the ocean) is our friend.

Smoothies. Here’s a few ideas. Always use fresh fruit in season. If in winter, try frozen fruit. The more fibre… the more good a smoothie is.
Best smoothies where I live in New Zealand, are smoothies made from “breadfruit icecream.” Tonga could rock that gig. You can also try cherimoya icecream. That is take the flesh of cherimoya fruit. Blend it, then freeze (no dairy). It tastes like the natural fruit version of a creme caramel. Delicious. In winter make smoothies from it. Out of this world. (more…)

FRESH SUPERFOODS BEST – A BALANCED DIET PROVIDES IMMUNITY TO FIGHT CANCER
Health information changes a lot. A regular balanced diet is always going to be the best prevention against disease. A new study says antioxidants overload may not be good. It’s about balance.
Here’s the article: Fashionable anti-cancer superfoods and supplements do not prevent the disease and may even cause it, according to a scientist who helped discover the structure of DNA.
Dr James Watson said the cure for many cancers will remain elusive unless scientists rethink the role of antioxidants, which include vitamin pills and food such as blueberries and broccoli.
It is widely believed they boost health and fight cancer by mopping up oxygen molecules called free radicals. But Dr Watson argues these may be key to preventing and treating cancer – and depleting the body of them may be counter-productive.
Free radicals not only help keep diseased cells under control, they are also pivotal in making many cancer drugs, as well as radiotherapy, effective, he believes.
Writing in a journal published by the Royal Society, the 84-year-old Nobel laureate stated that antioxidants ‘may have caused more cancers than they have prevented’. (more…)

Science news: A Chinese scientist claims they have discovered an anti-ageing formula called resveratrol.
“Lamin A and SIRTI would be boosted with resveratrol, a compound found in the skin of red grapes and other fruits which has been touted by some scientists and companies as a way to slow aging or remain healthy as people get older… as resveratrol is found in red wine that reduces heart disease and ageing… the amount of resveratrol in red wine is very low [to deter ageing in a capacity that it could do].”

ANGER IS HEALTHY… FIND SAFE WAYS TO EXPRESS IT
Today, I read that expressing anger is good for health. People who internalize anxiety suffer from an elevated pulse. High blood pressure results. From that, heart disease to cancer, kidney damage can follow.
People who repress outward signs of fear, avoid risks, are big on control can be at risk of those illnesses accelerating.
