HANNUKAH – IT’S TRUE MEANING FOR JEWS IN THE USA – THE OIL LAMP BURNING AS A MIRACLE, EXPLAINED

The True Meaning of Hannukah

Jews don’t celebrate Christmas. In fact if you live in the USA at Christmas time, the Jewish community can even get really aggressive when it comes to supporting non-Jewish people having a fun Christmas celebration.

American Jews take holidays as the US does and also Jewish holidays too. Believe me, Jews in the USA do worship freely too. Good on them! :)

At the same time, most non-Jewish people don’t know much about Hannukah, one of the many Jewish holiday celebrations.

The New York Times Hilary Leila Krieger is the Washington bureau chief for The Jerusalem Post. Hilary zooms the USA in on The True Meaning of Hannukah. Here’s what she wrote:

Guest Commentary: When my brother was in kindergarten, where he was the only Jewish student, a parent organizing enrichment activities asked my mother to tell the class the story of Hanukkah. My mother obligingly brought in a picture book and began to read about foreign conquerors who were not letting Jews in ancient Israel worship freely, even defiling their temple, until a scrappy group led by the Maccabee family overthrew one of the most powerful armies in the world and won their liberty.

The woman was horrified.

The Hanukkah story, she interrupted, was not about war. It was about the miracle of an oil lamp that burned for eight days without replenishing. She urged my mother to close the book. My mother refused.        (more…)

ABOUT THEIR ART – ELI AND EDYTHE BROAD’S STAR TEMPLATE OF CALIFORNIA

Eli Broad:

Not everyone in New Zealand has had it sweet on arrival. Some of our best peoples endured hardship on arrival in New Zealand. As immigrants they rose above the ranks to be stellar New Zealanders.

America with a population of 310 million people (US Census data 2010), is a nation founded on immigrants largely. It is a melting pot.

When people succeed their stories in the USA is one of great strength in a land of huge opportunity too. With that thought in mind, I was thinking of Eli Broad today. His star template as an American provides a lesson (or several) in attainment.

He was an immigrant: Eli was born in the Bronx, raised in Detroit. His folks Lithuanian immigrants. He learned from their lives, That at the end of the day, that’s how it is. Life getting better is about an individual choice. He chose to improve his family’s lot.

Property was how he started: At 20, Eli was able to buy his first patch of land.

He started his own building business: By 1957, Eli was already married to Edythe. He co-founded Kaufman & Broad in 1957. Eli took a loan of $25k from his wife’s folks and became one of USA’s biggest home builders in the affordable housing market. His passion for business was an ability to grow a good team.  (more…)

BARACK OBAMA’S DNC SPEECH SEPTEMBER 7th 2012

He surfed the wave of renewed, brills momentum. Barack Obama‘s DNC speech 2012. View it right here.

What he said:

“Michelle, I love you. The other night, I think the entire country saw just how lucky I am. Malia and Sasha, you make me so proud but don’t get any ideas, you’re still going to class tomorrow. And Joe Biden, thank you for being the best Vice President I could ever hope for.

Madam Chairwoman, delegates, I accept your nomination for President of the United States.

The first time I addressed this convention in 2004, I was a younger man; a Senate candidate from Illinois who spoke about hope – not blind optimism or wishful thinking, but hope in the face of difficulty; hope in the face of uncertainty; that dogged faith in the future which has pushed this nation forward, even when the odds are great; even when the road is long.

Eight years later, that hope has been tested – by the cost of war; by one of the worst economic crises in history; and by political gridlock that’s left us wondering whether it’s still possible to tackle the challenges of our time.

I know that campaigns can seem small, and even silly. Trivial things become big distractions. Serious issues become sound bites. And the truth gets buried under an avalanche of money and advertising. If you’re sick of hearing me approve this message, believe me – so am I.

But when all is said and done – when you pick up that ballot to vote – you will face the clearest choice of any time in a generation. Over the next few years, big decisions will be made in Washington, on jobs and the economy; taxes and deficits; energy and education; war and peace – decisions that will have a huge impact on our lives and our children’s lives for decades to come. STORMS, HEAT WAVES, POWER OUTAGES – USA ELECTRICITY IN CITY PLANNING NEEDS TO CHANGE QUICKER TO GREENER LIVING DESIGN

America needs to get a lot quicker in developing energy (electricity) that isn’t so fossil fuels dependant. A lot of USA’s electricity is also generated from nuclear energy.

As global warming changes weather patterns (due to increased industrial pollution and war’s scars accumulate on the earth’s landscapes) substantially, this is critical for American citizens peace of mind, health, well being and survival as a people.

Watching New Zealand foeign correspondent, Jack Tame reporting from Detroit on the news here, about the record heat wave in parts of the USA combined with power outages, really hit the message home. His coverage looks like so: Triple-digit heat wave continues in Eastern US, and Fierce thunderstorms knock out power in US.

The one lady saying: “What people don’t understand is that when you get to over 55 years of age, air conditioning is so important to your health.”

Good point. There’s no air conditioning without electricity and sadly, there’s no electricity in much of the USA without fossil fuels being burned to create electiricity for air conditioners in rising hot summer conditions. Perhaps someone can create an app from the USA, that allows people the opportunity to switch their power from a fossil fuels generated power company to a green energy one, instead? The USA is so good at apps science creation.

Watch the clip above, as a reminder we need to think greener quicker, for the USA.

Our hearts go out to the lives lost within the USA this week. Peace!

COULD RANDY MOSS MAKE A COMEBACK & FIND WORK WITH THE MIAMI DOLPHINS?

[Photo credit - Jim McIsaac for Getty Images]

We live in an era where sports stars, using webchat from their own homes, can bring a nation to their living rooms. This is the case when Randy Moss ustreamed his thoughts to his fans. Within hours headlines appeared like Could Randy Moss find work with Miami Dolphins?

Based on his audience draw across the USA online… he would be an asset to the branding of any major team. Well done Randy Moss!

Meanwhile Freep runs with the headline: “Is Randy Moss a better deep threat than Lions’ Calvin Johnson?” It’s game on, with football fans online debating this question.

Team Calvin! And Moss is way cool being Team Calvin too.

OBAMA FREES 10 STATES CLASSROOMS FROM “NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND” SANCTIONS

In US Educationalist News: No Child Left Behind sanctions no longer apply in Tennessee: Jeanne Reasonover of The Tennessean writes: ”Tennessee schools will no longer be penalized for failing to meet benchmarks under the federal No Child Left Behind Law. Instead, the 10 states be held to a standard written by state education leaders.” Both Pennsylvania and Detroit express views of relief as well as questioning is this best for child education?
I think young people are full on in today’s world of unrest and unpheaval, so what ever works best for hard working, underpaid school teachers in the USA – that’s got to be good right now for American class rooms morale. So much of learning is done online these days from youth – the teacher is the social blender that gives children a daily sense of community one lesson and activity at a time. Teacher’s are also many young children of the USA’s other stable parental figure each day. So, perhaps this waiver gives ten US states freed from the legislation a bit of breather in the classroom. Read the commentary about this online… it’s quite interesting the differing views on it.

COMING FROM REALITY – AFTER THE FACT, LYRICS – SUGARMAN

Right now, Im listening to Climb Up on My Music lyrics by Sixto Diaz Rodriguez, taken from the South African CD, of Coming From Reality album.–Sugarman.

Have you ever had a fever,
From a bitter-sweet refrain,
Have you ever kissed the sunshine,
Walked between the rain.

Well, just climb up on my music,
And my songs will set you free,
Well, just climb up on my music,
And from there jump off with me.

Well, there was a girl named Christmas,
Did I tell ya she drank gold,
She wasn’t very hard to capture,
But she was rather hard to hold.

Well, just climb up on my music,
And my songs will set you free,
Well, just climb up on my music,
And from there jump off with me.

Have you ever been in darkness,
And your mind could find no peace,
When you woke up after midnight,
Found your swans had turned to geese.

Well, just climb up on my music,
And my songs will set you free,
Well, just climb up on my music,
And from there jump off with me.

תקעו בחודש אות ג – SOCIETAL REFLECTIONS OF A JEWESS – 5.1.12

Chavi writes:

תקעו בחודש אות ג

“The relationship of the poor and the wealthy mimics the process of creation – a series of givers flowing energy towards receivers. This model is true for our world, for סדר השתלשלות, and even above that in עתיק and אריך. It even goes as far as back as the אור שלפני הצמצום giving birth to the concept of creation.

A physical representation of this phenomenon is the sun and the moon. The moon has nothing of its own and only reflects the light of the sun. However, for the sun to function as a sun, it needs a moon to reflect its light.

This is why the poor play such an important role. They are the final representation of this phenomenon and when a wealthy person gives and a poor person receives the echo of this transaction completes all the same transactions in the upper worlds.”

To get lost in more profundity from Chavi’s philosophical and tres beautiful soul, read on.

BAD MEETS EVIL – “LIGHTERS” by BRUNO MARS feat EMINEM

Eminem is America’s no.1 selling male (solo) music artist. After being rehabbed and returning to music, Eminem has continued to wow the world with hard hitting rap lyrics that seem to define a generation.

Who can forget the lyrics “just gonna stand here and watch me burn” that he penned for Rihanna, “it’s alright, cos I like the way you lie.” Those lyrics were American youth lyrics of young people who hadn’t been penned into the last three years of American policies and politics. The song, won the artist a Grammy.

Now it seems, Eminem’s re-entered the ring. This time with young Bruno Mars and Royce da 5’9″ to do another angry anthem for American youth. I normally don’t have swear words on this blog. But this time, I’m going to go with it. Reality for young people from Greece, from London to Tunisia, Libya, Syria and the USA is a little bit angry. So lyrics follow after the jump. Click on Bruno’s pic to hear Lighters. Peace!

Lighters lyrics:

[Chorus]
This ones for you and me
Living out our dreams
We are right where we should be
With my arms out wide
I open my eyes
And now
All I wanna see
Is a sky full of lighters
A sky full of lighters (more…)

DETROIT RUINS ARE EXAMINED IN A PHOTOGRAPHIC ESSAY

Michigan Central Station – and ‘the ruins’ of Detroit Michigan are examined in a photographic series by Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre Photography perhaps making the commentary that America needs to focus on a war at home in these times. People don’t fix things for a reason. What is that reason?

The photographic essay covers Hotels being in ruins, Churches, Arts Theaters. This photograph features a melted clock at Cass Technical Institute. New Orleans is rebuilding. Vampire films are being filmed in New Orleans (The Twilight Saga) a State rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina, perhaps New Orleans can get something fresh going on, in this decline. Changing the history of a vampire city, is in Detroits hands. Let’s go Detroit! Work it.

EMINEM’S PEOPLE ARE CRAZY FOR CHARLIE SHEEN

As we know Eminem, the most successful solo male act in the USA, is from Detroit. Well it appears that his people also like Charlie Sheen. The legally embattled Sheen tweeted that both his shows for his tour in Detroit and Chicago, have sold out in minutes.

He is totally Conan O’Brien this year, on his tour of US Cities post network angst, a good gauge perhaps for how a campaign on the road will occur for future campaigners touring the US.

I’m not a fan of Charlie Sheen’s but I do think people from Chicago and Detroit are down to earth and good folks. Or maybe it’s just because they are people who appreciate good butter too. One things for sure, Sheen is the pin up lad of Hollywood for the American underdog this year.

Someone always has to tour to keep people who feel this way, like their interests are being heard. The role is a Hollywood tradition each year. Traveling Hollywood comedian is Sheen’s official new title in a supply and demand culture where tickets to see Charlie are hot potatoes thus far.

LONG WINTER NIGHTS – CHAVI STARTS HER BLOG – 2.6.11

Chavi of Detroit, now living and studying in Los Angeles has started her blog today. Woot!

Ms. Hot Thing, shares a story about her Inner Teenager. It kind of goes a bit like this:

“Usually when I learn, there’s a certain resignation. I don’t expect to love what I’m learning. I don’t even really want to learn. I can almost see my nefesh habehamis shrug his shoulders like a sullen teenager. Fine, he says, learn if you have to, but don’t expect me to care about any of it. I’ll just retreat until you’re done.

So I sit myself down and start reading. The words go in and out and I ride the rhythm of it. Until some times, an idea or a word or a thought will excite my imagination and then even the teenager in me can’t resist.

That’s what happened this morning. My father was explaining a concept to me. In tanya it says that the purpose of creation is this world. It must be, argues the Alter Rebbe, because all the other levels are only manifestations of atzmus (hashem himself) and Hashem has no need for anything outside than Himself since He is complete.”

I think Chavi’s blog must have a bit of a Jewish theological focus to it, because as always Ms Hot Thing, is being way too beautiful and deep, even as a brand new, baby doll blogger, who just started blogging this morning. When your first blog post is about Omnipotent Completeness – um, yeah, celebrity news is clearly not what Chavi is blogging about at all. Congrats Chavi. Thanks for sharing.

The major thought crosses my mind that I should be hold up at the local right now, watching The Super Bowl. But, after discussing what Post-Graduate course in depth that Chavi should pursue (an important matter now planned), I have discovered that Ms. Thing is a complete 100% distraction right now. Football, football, football! Don’t Orthodox Jewish girls care about football, the other major religion of the US?! Lol!

KEY RAINBOW SPIRIT FOOD FOR CRYSTAL RACHEL, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE? xox

Kia Ora Crystal Rachel,

While your Uncle took a cigarette break from Hollywood blogging, two things happened. Outside Suru clothing store (a fun store) an abandoned bible lay open. Blowing in the wind, its pages were opened on the concrete pavement to these passages written by Moses.

I share them with you on my blog, as spirit food as one of your Hollywood moments via me. The passage is significant as I blog in Hollywood at a time where animals, birds, fish are being reported dead in the world in large numbers. In this climate, I felt that this is yours and John‘s promise, after your personal flood of fear.

Like a tohu (a spiritual sign of guidance), this moment is your own rainbow for your heart’s Peace as a mother of Aotearoa New Zealand. May your life always hold this promise over this beautiful nation, as a key keeper of Life. And for America too, if you’re feeling up to it. :)

A minute prior to leaving the Cafe I’m at today in the Melrose fashion district of West Hollywood, I saw this lady. A hot dance choreographer of America and Los Angeles I have seen many times on TV. She is the one and only, Sonya Tayeh. Like you, she is extremely talented with a wonderful personality. I asked her to pose for a photograph for you as I’d heard you’d had a wee shock in hospital. She said “Cool, I know what to do for that.”

She grabbed her boyfriend, Craig Hollamon, pictured who is an “amazing dancer and choreographer” also. Craig could look a bit like your brother Bradley James. Especially when Brad was a baby. One of your great great grand Uncle’s (father’s name) had a Craig in it somewhere. Here’s that picture. And here’s a dance for you, as spirit food too, for your own beautiful dance of life.

I love you. Mauri ‘Ola He Wahine o Te Ngakau Reka. Let’s keep life fun and always inspiring and colorful. :)

Here’s one to watch – Hallelujah by Sonya Tayeh as danced by Alex Wong – Watch here.

Above - Arcadia by Ellenore Scott & Ryan Di Lello.

Artwork – Dove by Holly V Hoof.

[Thanks Sonya and Craig].

CHAVI STARS AS PRETTY WOMAN – 1.21.11

She said: I have a dilemma. It’s late and I really want this coffee, but I could be up all night if I do.

He said: Drink half, or have a hot chocolate instead.

She said: But I want it all though.

That’s how they met. She an Orthodox, Hebrew and Yiddish speaking Jewess, studying finance and Hassidic theology and philosophy. He a Maori-Kiwi living in L.A.  Her hair tucked beneath a Pretty Woman Julia Roberts wig on a Thursday night with a spirit so bright, she wanted children who would change the world.

Her intellect so pretty and fascinating. Her allure so forbidden, her beauty so other wordly and pure, she hurt.
