BARACK OBAMA’S DNC SPEECH SEPTEMBER 7th 2012

He surfed the wave of renewed, brills momentum. Barack Obama‘s DNC speech 2012. View it right here.

What he said:

“Michelle, I love you. The other night, I think the entire country saw just how lucky I am. Malia and Sasha, you make me so proud but don’t get any ideas, you’re still going to class tomorrow. And Joe Biden, thank you for being the best Vice President I could ever hope for.

Madam Chairwoman, delegates, I accept your nomination for President of the United States.

The first time I addressed this convention in 2004, I was a younger man; a Senate candidate from Illinois who spoke about hope – not blind optimism or wishful thinking, but hope in the face of difficulty; hope in the face of uncertainty; that dogged faith in the future which has pushed this nation forward, even when the odds are great; even when the road is long.

Eight years later, that hope has been tested – by the cost of war; by one of the worst economic crises in history; and by political gridlock that’s left us wondering whether it’s still possible to tackle the challenges of our time.

I know that campaigns can seem small, and even silly. Trivial things become big distractions. Serious issues become sound bites. And the truth gets buried under an avalanche of money and advertising. If you’re sick of hearing me approve this message, believe me – so am I.

But when all is said and done – when you pick up that ballot to vote – you will face the clearest choice of any time in a generation. Over the next few years, big decisions will be made in Washington, on jobs and the economy; taxes and deficits; energy and education; war and peace – decisions that will have a huge impact on our lives and our children’s lives for decades to come. CRUZ’S LA DODGERS & COLORADO ROCKIES BASEBALL NEWS – ESPN’S DODGERS REPORT SPORTS NEWS

While Ann Romney bemoans the fact the Hispanic-Americans are not at all forthcoming in trusting Republicans, though Mitt is Hispanic-American himself, politics is far from baseball player Louis Cruz‘s mind today. He’s celebrating a win with his LA team homies.

The LA Times notes how Louis Cruz gives the LA Dodgers fan club and the City of LA, a feel good story. Read here.

Mark Saxon Notes: 3 up. 3 down. Dodgers 10. Rockies 8: The Los Angeles Dodgers snapped their three-game losing streak, but not before they nearly blew a 10-0 lead. The Dodgers hung on Wednesday at Coors Field for a wild 10-8 win over the Colorado Rockies, who scored all their runs in the seventh and eighth innings. HOLLYWOOD CASTING CALL BUZZ, CK’s NEW FRAGRANCE ENCOUNTER, LARA STONE & ALEXANDER SKARSGARD FOR LEAD IN “FIFTY SHADES OF GREY?”

I’ve never read the book, Fifty Shades of Grey. Hollywood is making the film into a movie. Casting is underway. The usual heartthrob names have come up for the lead role of Christian Grey. Should it be Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp or someone else?, Hollywood is asking. PolicyMic also recommends Ryan Gosling. Let’s face it, the leading lad sort of has to resemble a younger version of Mitt Romney or Mitt’s running mate. Why Gosling, stands a good chance perhaps. Just saying.

Then there’s the issue of greed and inequality rates escalating so high over the past 7-10 years amongst the wealthy, aided by bankers and those who wore ties, that you have to ask, is it really a good time to make this film? Tie jade repellent factor is something the PR of the film will need to get audiences over, for younger audiences to find the movie relevant – the future of Hollywood films.

For casting directors who may read the blog, Tennessee folks are the top rating American stars on the blog over the last 9 days. Why? Who knows, yet the world seems to want to see more of Tennessee lately on a trends tracking level.

Back to Hollywood casting: True Blood HBO actor, Alexander Skarsgard‘s new TVC where he co-stars with model Lara Stone has some pundits hoping Skarsgard will be approached to star in the lead. Watch the TVC and make up your own mind. Skarsgard for Hollywood’s silver screen invention of Christian Grey?

Or should the role go to a newcomer, no one has ever heard of? That would be rad. Like a talent search reality TV series, then TV audiences could vote on their lead of choice. In the process, new actors would be discovered too by the audience votes. With a decent script, their movies would always be hits, because the people voted them onto the screen before the actors even started in Hollywood.

Maybe that’s too rad thinking and too creative an approach for Hollywood?, yet not a silly idea to shake Hollywood up a tad. It would be cool to see a deserving every day guy, become a big Hollywood star. Like a farmer who acts in their local theater company once a year, or a single parent chippie, building homes in Utah for cheeky Swiss-Mormons’ charities.  That kind of vibe could work too. An unknown from Colorado could also be a good mix for America’s future plans.

Just create a new heartthrob, cast them opposite Hollywood’s leading lights names, then hello, big box office smash hit would ensue for E L James, spin-off film franchise. It worked for The Twilight saga films, in Summit Entertainment, a fledging film company. Why not try the same casting approach for this film franchise and older actors?

In any event, Calvin Klein’s fragrance marketing team has done a swell job at seguing into author E.L James’ audience following, with the Skarsgard TVC Fifty Shades referencing buzzing it’s way across the 50 States of the USA this weekend. He’s so savvy that CK in flogging his scents range.

In other casting news & talent management in the Hollywood hood, Brits are making a wave, alongside Australia’s Hemsworth clan. Also check out: 11 British Actors Invading Hollywood’s ‘It List’ too. An actor called Lloyd would be good from Britain, as a Fed approved and bonafide potential Hollywood talent too. At this stage, I’d go the unknown local community hero casting, then Skarsgard-Ryan, at the populous vote. They’ve both certainly got what it takes to helm such a film franchise for E L James.

OUT OF THE DARKNESS A BETTER DAY WILL COME – PRESIDENT OBAMA, AURORA DENVER COLORADO

“What people will remember will be the good people that were impacted by this tragedy,” said President Barack Obama in Denver, Colorado today.

“As heartbreaking as this is for the families it’s worth us spending most  of our time reflecting on young Americans… because they represent what’s best in us and they assure us that out of this darkness a better day is going to come,” he added.

Mr Obama said he came to Aurora less as a president and more as father and a husband. And while he called for reflection on “how we can do something about the senseless violence that continues to mar this country” he gave no indication that he was prepared to embark on a politically risky push for stronger gun controls.

TEAM NEW ZEALAND YACHTING DESIGN – NEWS FROM NZ – SATURDAY 27th JULY 2012

Live Blogging The News:

New Zealand observed as a nation the massacre of innocents at the movies in Aurora, Denver Co. for 11 minutes this evening. Mr Peter Williams, Bernadine Oliver-Kirby, Jenny May-Coffin and Karen Olsen bring the news.

6.00pm: Kate Lynch recalled how James Holmes had died his hair red, released two green canisters in the movie theater, before shooting with four weapons unsuspecting movie goers. He had purchased ammunition from three separate stores like a nutter. His apartment such a booby trap, a robot is needed by police to seize James porn collection in a Kim Dotcom styled Nazi raid authorized (apparently) by Joe Biden. No. But kinda. Wearing a “spidey saves the day – like a boss” tee shirt, witness David Casper piped up on cam to give his account for cameras too.

In serious aspects of the massacre, 50 people are in hospital. 11 still critical. 12 dead. The 5’11 Holmes, was said to be a quiet soccer player, University student. Ray KellyMarissa Randazo and Kaitlyn Fonzi, Alex and Tom Sulliven all commented to cam. Chris Ramos talked of surviving the experience, wishing for a moment of “washing away the fear, the dirt and the blood on their skin, okay?”

A young brotha who needs to enrol in NASA asap as he’s so smart, who helped people in the theater was described as a reluctant hero. “I don’t want to say hero,” he denies. “I was in the wrong place at the right time. The wrong place as I had to deal with the situation. The right time, as I was there to help the family.” Well said.   (more…)

SAD DAY AT MOVIES: JAMES EAGAN HOLMES IS LISTED AS DENVER MOVIE THEATER SHOOTINGS GUNMAN

Breaking News: It was the worst mass shooting in the United States since 32 people were killed on the Virginia Tech campus in 2007. It was the worst in Colorado since the Columbine High School massacre on April 20, 1999. Students Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, opened fire at the school in the Denver suburb of Littleton, about 15 miles west of Aurora, killing 12 classmates and a teacher and wounding 26 others before killing themselves in the school’s library.–CBS News.

CBS News reports that the gunman for the tragic Denver Colorado movie theater shootings, that occurred yesterday in Theater 9 of the suburban movie theater in Aurora Colorado, according to CBS Denver station KCNC-TV has been found. It is a story that has rocked the world.

CBS/AP reports: “The suspect apprehended in the mass shooting at a suburban Denver movie theater has been identified as James Eagan Holmes, 24, law enforcement sources told CBS News correspondent Bob Orr. The student from San Diego who was a graduate in neourscience in 2010 from the University of California, Riverside is said to have had no prior criminal record. He was study neuroscience in Denver Colorado. The attack is said to have not been terrorism related.

Is it time to review gun laws in the USA? Especially with high unemployment?

In the Mid-West USA, the heat is also a risk to community: West a tinderbox of fuel for mega-fires.

UPDATED: ABC’s Diane Sawyer has more.

ABC’s Clayton Sandell, Kevin Dolak and Colleen Curry wrote: Twelve people were killed and 59 were injured in Aurora, Colo., during a sold-out midnight premier of the new Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises when 24-year-old James Holmes allegedly unloaded four weapons’ full of ammunition into the unsuspecting crowd.

The number of casualties makes the incident the largest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Moviegoer Christopher Ramos today recalled the real-life horror of the midnight premiere of the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, in Aurora, Colo., as a gunman decked in riot gear set off smoke bombs and opened fire on the unsuspecting audience.

“People were running everywhere, running on top of me, like kicking me, jumping over me. And there were bodies on the ground,” Ramos said. “I froze up. I was scared. I honestly thought I was going to die.”

“The image in our heads is stuck in there. I still have the ticket right here and honestly, I’m never going to forget this night at all. Because it was the first time I saw something that was real. Like a real-life nightmare that was there, not dreaming of,” Ramos told ABC News today.

Just tragic. Does gun reform in the USA need to be looked at?

HOW KIRK DOUGLAS HELPED TO BREAK BLACKLIST

ABC’S David Muir zooms viewers in to celebrate the life of Kirk Douglas, as a Hollywood light who stood against censorship in a culture where politics was too heavy-handed and blacklist occurred from government. A friend and mentor named Robert, who is 91 and lives in Beverly Hills, once got black-listed because he worked as a journalist who would socialize with black people in Los Angeles when reporting.

He was Jewish, yet he could pass for Parsee. Robert was associated to Lena Horne‘s circle of friends, when Lena was black-listed as a communist. He was blacklisted too. They were crazy times. Robert is still a registered member of Pen America to this day, an organisation that is a global literary community dedicated to protecting free expression and celebrating literature in humane ways.

David Muir’s story goes: “In the 1950s Hollywood was consumed by the blacklist. Writers, producers and actors were called before Congress amid fear they might be Communists. The mere mention of a name was enough to end a career.

“It was the worst time in Hollywood,” Hollywood veteran Kirk Douglas told ABC News. “Everybody told me I was crazy.”

Crazy because as a producer of Spartacus Douglas put his own career on the line, his own fortune, to hire Dalton Trumbo, one of those writers on the blacklist.

“If you do it … you’ll never work in this town again. You will be declared a Communist,” Cleo Trumbo, Dalton’s wife said people told Douglas.

But Douglas, hired Dalton Trumbo anyway, and Spartacus became the top movie of the USA that year. The movie wasn’t only a box-office winner, it was also instrumental in breaking the blacklist.”

Douglas realized that within the face of Dalton Trumbo’s faceless story was his own story, that “there by the grace of God, go I.” He acted on that basis with integrity in liberty, in one pivotal action of inclusion that went beyond surface appearances of the milieu-of-the-day, thus changing history. With confidence in peace Douglas disciplined a system that had become drunk on power, elitist exclusion for personal gain and was blind to the image of itself, while being clearly unjust towards humanity. Kirk Douglas hacked the system of inequality and greed backed unjustly by a state system’s might.

The tyranny of the blacklist was broken. He was an agent of redemption, the only true firm foundation of real grace. Freedom returned, the marginalized advanced and Kirk Douglas included others more honestly with his spirit of wise compassion and fearless courage to love others as he wanted to be treated himself. He demonstrated: “there by the Grace of God, go us.”

COLORADO SPRINGS UNDER THREAT AS WINDS FORCE 32,000 TO FLEE WALDO FIRE

In Colorado Springs news: Gov John Hickenlooper said “there is nothing firefighters could do when you get this kind of weather,” in responding to fires devastation in Colarado.

The BBC reported: “More than 32,000 people have fled Colorado’s second-biggest city because of raging wildfires that have hit six other US states.

Traffic and smoke choked the streets as people left Colorado Springs and a nearby US Air Force Academy.

Evacuation orders were issued for much of the city as the fire doubled in size to over 24 sq miles (62 sq km). Some 800 firefighters have been deployed. (more…)

PEYTON MANNING 35, PICKS DENVER BRONCOS – TIM TEBOW’S FUTURE STRONG, THOUGH CLOUDY AT PRESENT

After galavanting around almost every football team, Peyton Manning 36 has opted for Colorado’s lure, signing with the Denver Broncos.

Up until he signed, Manning was billed as the the most prominent free agent in NFL history. The Denver Broncos ‘won the prize of lofty new expectations.’

USA’s break out quarterback phenomenon star of 2012, Tim Tebow, just might be feeling a bit of pressure, or, an opportunity to learn from a new teacher in his team.

USA today reports: “Manning, who turns 36 on Saturday, instantly pushes Tim Tebow out of a starting job and assumes his quest to win a second Super Bowl with the franchise hoping to repeat the glory it achieved more than 13 years ago with coach John Elway. Although the USA media are running with the story angle of ‘Tebow’s future now cloudy’ – at least it’s a ‘cloud’ full of some of the best football knowledge America can offer Tebow as a future star of the game. He’d be wise to stay under the cloud then if he can.

For more – head to USA Today.

However, young Tebow may not have that option, Business Insider is speculating today that the Bronco’s will trade Tebow in light of Manning’s signing and that Tebow won’t be released as a free agent, like Manning was on arrival to the Broncos. Read that here.

JEWELS OF THE HEART – COLORADO MEXICAN GIRLS IN AUCKLAND CITY

The other night in Auckland City, I met a cute girl from Colorado who always flies to Mexico to get her teeth done. She looked like a young Jessica Alba.

At 24, she’d work in the jewelry business. She started out selling in high school and eventually progressed to doing road shows right across the USA. Now, she’s done. Journeying to New Zealand to find herself, sipping on a ginger and honey tea she asked me:

“So if you want to do something more beyond sourcing elegant jewels for rich women but a bit deeper than that on a heart level, what does one do?

Why don’t you develop a life course, presenting a 9 sided wordview look on how you discover the potential embedded in your heart. Like, in effect – become a life coach, like a gem cutter of hearts. Then sell your own line of jewelry too.

She said, “Thank you so much.”

He said: “You’re most welcome.” Really he wanted to put her in his pocket and keep her in New Zealand. He could see though that she had a lifetime’s work ahead of her in America.

KIRKWOOD SKI RESORT

Vail Resorts to buy Kirkwood Mountain Ski Resort is a topic the Los Angeles times is reporting on today. Ben Gavelda notes the acquistion means, “Heavenly and Northstar pass holders get immediate access to Kirkwood and Kirkwood pass holders get immediate access to Heavenly and Northstar.”

With the purchase from Mountain Springs Kirkwood for $18 million, Vail now owns seven top ski locations in the USA. Kirkwood’s marketing man Michael Dalzell sees the sale as “good financial sense.” I wonder how California will feel about a prime ski region being sold to Colorado?

The Sierra Sun writes, “I’ve got mixed emotions,” said professional skier Josh Daiek, who calls Kirkwood home. “I think there’s going to be some really good things that happen. But I’m also a little apprehensive about what’s going to happen to the core of Kirkwood.”

The future improvements may be a good thing for Kirkwood and the Lake Tahoe community. Colorado’s old money sure is able to buy up large today. At least the land remains in American peoples hands. That’s good.

JOHN ELWAY TALKS BOLSTERING TIM TEBOW’S POCKET WORK AS BRONCO’S STARTER

Denver is in the spotlight regarding the ongoing management of Tim Tebow‘s future football prospects as the eyes of America turn towards John Elway of Denver Broncos management on a very significant week for the team.

The Denver Post reports, “in a season-ending question-and-answer session with head coach John Fox, executive vice president of football operations John Elway and general manager Brian Xanders, that this offseason will be all about the football for Tebow.

Coaching goals being set for Tebow are all about not staring down receivers, improving his footwork in the pocket, being more accurate, and playing more inside the pocket than outside. Looking after Bronco’s investment, Elway said he will go as far as to jump into things himself, working some on the field with Tebow as well as in the video study.”

ESPN’s Sportscenter features video of John Elway saying he believes Tim Tebow has earned the right to enter training camp as the starter.

ESPN EXAMINE’S TIM TEBOW’S SELFLESS HEART FOR OTHERS

ESPN Sports is making bank with the Tim Tebow phenomenon that has captured the USA’s attention, hearts and minds. In particular, Tebow’s faith and spiritual focus combined with a heart of compassion, is what many Americans admire about Te Bowie.

Matt Drudge has also noted earlier today that Tebow is “set to break TV records.”

Rick Reilly takes some time to shed a light on what Tim Tebow does off the field, that makes him greater than when he’s on the field. Reilly shares:

“I’ve come to believe in Tim Tebow for what he does off a football field, which is represent the best parts of us, the parts I want to be and so rarely am.

Who among us is this selfless?

Every week, Tebow picks out someone who is suffering, or who is dying, or who is injured. He flies these people and their families to the Broncos game, rents them a car, puts them up in a nice hotel, buys them dinner (usually at a Dave & Buster’s), gets them and their families pregame passes, visits with them just before kickoff (!), gets them 30-yard-line tickets down low, visits with them after the game (sometimes for an hour), has them walk him to his car, and sends them off with a basket of gifts.”

What a guy - spirit tattoo-ed on his heart, reflected in actions for others!

TIMOTHY RICHARD TEBOW – AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR ATHLETE

Yahoo Sports on Tim Tebow‘s Popularity: “Who has a weird throwing motion, two fingers constantly pointed skyward and is the most popular athlete in America? Timothy Richard Tebow, that’s who.

The Denver Broncos quarterback finished first in an ESPN Sports Poll asking Americans about their favorite active athlete. In the survey of 1,502 sports fans over the age of 12, Tebow finished ahead of Kobe Bryant, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. The second-year veteran earned 3 percent of the vote, well ahead of Bryant’s 2 percent.

ESPN has been conducting the poll every month for the last 18 years. Tebow is just the 11th athlete to top the list and only the sixth in the past five years.”

KYLE ORTON SIGNS TO THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Days after getting dumped by the Denver Broncos, Kyle Orton has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. It has been a roller coaster week of football reshuffling for Orton. The Washington Post/ AP reports: “ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Kyle Orton’s departure now includes a return trip to Denver.

A day after the Broncos waived their former starter, the Kansas City Chiefs picked him up, along with the roughly $2.6 million left on his contract that expires after this season.

Orton and his new team will travel to Denver for the season finale on Jan. 1. Tim Tebow supplanted Orton after a 1-4 start and has gone 4-1 to help the Broncos climb back into the AFC West race, a game behind Oakland.

Orton has a chance to go to a place where he could wind up with the starting job, especially with Matt Cassel undergoing season-ending hand surgery and his replacement, Tyler Palko, throwing three interceptions in a loss to New England on Monday night that dropped the Chiefs to 4-6.

“Good for him. Congratulations to him,” Tebow said upon hearing the news Wednesday that Orton was staying in the division. “That will be fun to play him the last game of the year.”

The fact Orton might return to Mile High on the opposing sideline was a risk the Broncos were willing to take.” More on this story can be viewed here.

JOSHUA BECKMAN POEM – IN COLORADO, IN OREGON, UPON

Once upon… a yellow bonnet poet Joshua Beckman writes groovy American poetry.

My pick today, In Colorado, In Oregon, upon. Thanks Josh.

In Colorado, In Oregon, upon
each beloved fork, a birthday is celebrated.
I miss each and every one of my friends.
I believe in getting something for nothing.
Push the chair, and what I can tell you
with almost complete certainty
is that the chair won't mind.
And beyond hope,
I expect it is like this everywhere.
Music soothing people.
Change rolling under tables.
The immaculate cutoff so that we may continue.
A particular pair of trees waking up against the window.
This partnership of mind, and always now
in want of forgiveness. That forgiveness be
the domain of the individual,
like music or personal investment.
Great forward-thinking people brought us
the newspaper, and look what we have done.
It is time for forgiveness. Dear ones,
