“Hollywood is a place where people mistake each other for stars.”–Fred Allen humor, modified. This is also why Hollywood is what it is. USA’s no.1 town of starmakers with Washington.
“In a smoke and mirrors town, you learn how to reflect and bounce attention and compliments ultra-fast.”–me on the art of p.r.
“To get ahead quicker in Hollywood, always take Fountain.”–Bette Davis
“Hitch your wagon to a star”– how the movie making component of the town began (and also the rule of publicity tie ups in the star system + organising event plus1′s).
“Always know your feh!s from your yiddisher kops.”–Orthello Doc.
WHAT MAKES HOLLYWOOD AGENTS TICK? EZEKIEL EMANUEL DISHES ON RAHM, ARI EMANUEL’S UPBRINGING & HUMOR IN NEW MEMOIR 2013
“Ari really could not help but be annoying,” Ezekiel writes. To provoke their father, he would scan the menu at every restaurant to identify the most expensive things and order them all, a habit Ezekiel attributes to his dyslexia. “He had trouble reading menus, and he found it easier just to look for the higher prices, which he anticipated were associated with the better dishes… As Ari grew older [he] learned the fine art of persistent and intentional irritation.”

Gov. Jerry Brown says California has averted fiscal collapse. He calls for investing in water and rail programs, but warns: ‘Fiscal discipline is not the enemy of our good intentions but the basis for realizing them.
Brown outlined a vision for the state Thursday in remarks that were equal parts history lesson, lecture and rhetorical flourish. It includes major investment in water and rail systems, more robust trade and an education structure free of regulations that crush creativity. (more…)

I missed the Woodrow W. Clark symposium at Beverly Hills before leaving the US for New Zealand. Gov. Gray Davis and Woodrow’s thoughts impressed me enough to take a photo just prior to jumping on a jet. I took the snap as I wanted to research Woodrow & Gov. Gray’s thoughts when I could. Now could quite possibly be that time. Renewable energy and sustainability in the 3IR realm of infrastructure advances is the vibe of what they do.
His thoughts are more relevant today perhaps than ever.

“It’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of beautiful and interesting things… We don’t know. I know they’re not running away from the boat. It seems like they’re responding to something but I just don’t know what it is.”
–Dave Anderson of Capt. Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari tour boat said at a rare sight when around 1,000 common dolphins began to stampede off Dana Point in Southern California. Dave told The LA Times that throughout his 10 years in business he’s almost never seen a pod of dolphins this large charging through the waters at full speed. –BI

“We are deeply saddened by the news of Huell’s passing. This is a tremendous personal and professional loss to his friends and colleagues, as well as his legions of fans. Huell elevated the simple joys and undiscovered nuggets of living in our great state. He made the magnificence and power of nature seem accessible by bringing it into our living rooms. Most importantly, he reminded us to find the magic and wonderment in our lives every day. (more…)
Gov. Jerry Brown has been giving good leads for the USA. Often leading in California with ideas that the Senate in Washington could perhaps consider and learn from. For example, Brown bolstered filmmakers incentives to return filmming to California. A few months later, North American box office figures have surged. He also announced he was increasing California’s taxes on the wealthy, and Washington is doing the same. Today his suggestion is: L.A. officials $3b bond proposal. (more…)
