EARTHQUAKES CAUSES, FREQUENCIES, ACCURATE TRACKING SYSTEMS FOR CITY PLANNERS & INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS GUIDANCE
Earthquakes can sink an economy, quicker than the titanic.
Citizens of New Zealand want to know more of how earthquakes are caused, where and why. You can never be too prepared. The NZH has a tale on that with that vein of thought. Built up cities lose the most, when earthquakes hit a region as infrastructure investment is intensified in cities. (more…)
DAVID SHEARER COMES TO THE FORE BEARING PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT & HOUSING PLANNING POLITICS
David Shearer says that his Labour political party aims to build “100,000 basic homes over 10 years.”
He said his time working in countries of hardship overseas had emphasised for him the important of the values that underpinned New Zealand society – and sparked the belief that he could not just stand back.
“I am in politics to make lives better. I’m not here to cross something off my bucket list, or to indulge in some sense of celebrity. I went out into the world to help improve people’s lives and I’ve chosen to enter politics for the same reason.”
The issue is important as young New Zealanders are locked out of the first homes market due to high unemployment at the average wage being less that $US36k in New Zealand. In addition, so many people are not safe post banks re-engineering the world in an era known as the Global Finanacial Crises. People with money left could quite possibly be looking to move elsewhere in the world in some parts of the Eurozone. Especially if they have a family to raise. So, what does Wellington’s new plan look like.
Well apparently: (more…)

OF GOODNESS THAT PERVADES REALITY: OPTIMUM DAD TIME – SEPTEMBER 11th 2012
Dad and I went for lunch yesterday. He imparted a lot into my brain and I guess, my life too.
One word lingered today in my consciousness that dad had reinforced with me as a coach friend. The word is a good one. It is “optimism.”
About optimism:
Hopefulness and confidence about the future or the success of something.
The belief that good must ultimately prevail over evil in the universe.
–Oxford Dictionary defintion.
An inclination to put the most favorable construction upon actions and events or to anticipate the best possible outcome. (more…)
BRITISH ROYAL SENNA KOWHAI LEWIS NEWS – FAMILY TREE IS BRANCHING OUT
Senna Kowhai‘s Maori side of the young British Royals whanau (family) tree, is branching out.
Senna’s father is Gary Lewis of Gisborne, East Coast New Zealand. His wife, the lovely Lady Davina have named their young son who was born on May 25th 2012, Tane Mahuta. It is a solid Maori name drawn from ancient Maori mythological culture and legend of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Baby Tane Mahuta is also brother to Ari Lewis, Gary’s son from a previous marriage and as mentioned Senna, now 2. Gary is from a Kiwi shearer family and he has a building company management background. Lady Davina… her family… is pretty famous. :)
The youngest Lewis is twenty-sixth in line to the British throne.
A cute story fusing local and British heritage.
New Zealand Woman’s Weekly specialize in Royal news in New Zealand. Read up at the tabloid’s website.
About the young Royal’s name in Maori mythology: As legend told, “Tāne is the son of Ranginui the sky father and Papatuanuku, the earth mother.
Tāne separates his parents from their marital embrace until his father the sky is high above mother earth. Tāne then sets about clothing his mother with vegetation. The birds and the trees of the forest are regarded as Tāne’s children.”
It’s a story that reminds us of how the living elements of the environment are one family connected between earth and sky in relationship.

ALUMINIUM, IRON ORE, INVERCARGILL, CHINA & NEW ZEALAND NZX MARKETS WATCH REPORT – 5.8.12
The quickly shifting trade economic winds are what most people in the world must keep an eye on more vigilantly than before.
Thankfully, Martin Allison and Melissa Stokes are on that job today. Allison notes how the iron ore industry in Australia has taken a dip due to the slowing influx of China’s trade as mainland China’s economy plateaus. This in turn has caused the Invercargill aluminium smelter (Rio Tinto) to rethink its game plane at this time too. Job cuts intended to be spread across five years are being bumped up to two months out.
Watch the report for the Kiwi accent on finance. A bit sage-like today.
[In builder's speak in NZ, what this means: Aluminium joinery work in Christhcurch and Auckland City should be happening in the future too as construction happens more across new city planning ventures and existing home improvement portfolios investing more]

CHRISTCHURCH GOOGLE LOVES CHRISTCHURCH – TRENDS TRACKING ONLINE – 2.9.12
Over 3,000 set topics make up Horiwoodblog.Com’s website content. Google’s ranking for “Horiwoodblog” today as a search term lists Christchurch The Garden City as the most read topic today on this website.
Who do I blame for that Christchurch online heat? It’s a Southern take over, literally! Well, Sophie Pascoe, the gold medallist whose just won another gold and her third medal in London in the swimming pool is from Christchurch City is most probably to blame for that. Daniel Carter holding a rugby football cup lives in Christchurch too. Mark Solomon the Maori corporate chief of Ngai Tahu Maori tribe lives in Christchurch. Mark is pretty spesh and Solomon just wowed Pacific Forum leaders in Rarotonga recently with all of the things they can do with fish and entrepreneurial nouse.
And of course local characters who have links to Christchurch like Gerry Brownlee, Lianne Dalziel and NZ’s PM meeting Hilllary Clinton yesterday. All of these people have links to Otautahi, Christchurch City.
How do I feel about that? I can’t say, I always wanted to be a “Christchurch ad” as a blogger! (Just kidding!). Christchurch people are in my heart, as a Kiwi. I left for the USA from Christchurch. It was the most beautiful city to live in. Always romantic in former times.
I think it’s quite cheeky, the South has managed to take over this blog today online though. Jeanette Thomas TV Talk Show gal and Piri Weepu, author and rugby world champion, of Auckland City, also take the no.1 spot with Google’s ranking along with Carter.
Google’s graphic this father’s day 2012 is crayons in orange and purple as a reminder to create & play & get creative at all times. The graphic is a father playing soccer with two kids. Cute. I should be a bit more diligent at covering soccer more on this website. It is the largest single sport in the world in terms of followers and fans. One of the highlights of the Olympics was seeing a Maori cousin represent in soccer at the 2012 Olympic games.

NGATI KAHU, NGATI WHATUA & MAORI NEWS NEW ZEALAND – 16.8.12
In brainy Maoris News: Prof. Margaret Mutu of the Ngāti Kahu iwi (Maori tribe) said some stuff recently. Watch.
Te Karere News reported: “Ngāti Kahu has asked the Waitangi Tribunal to invoke rarely-used powers and order the Crown to buy back private land under claim and return it to the tribe. But Treaty Minister Chris Finlayson says the Crown will oppose the move.”
I think these debates are important when New Zealand reaches the point where tsunami impacts of immigration due to climate change’s effects on the lush land of Aotearoa NZ, become more evident.
Unless The Crown were to consider Maori leaders’ views like Prof. Mutu’s on such matters, then NZ would run the risk of burying Maori even further under new layers of pressure, that The Crown may not be giving due consideration to, or planning as robustly against as it should be.
USA DROUGHT – AGRICULTURAL NEW ZEALAND NEWS & NZX WATCH REPORT – 10.8.12
[Music - Stan Walker's music video is a beauty as it shows acres of land, as a concept raising the idea of where agricultural crops could be growing - for our baby panda nations populations of the world].
New Zealand Citizens World News From Aotearoa New Zealand: In New Zealand, we are most concerned about USA’s drought problems, driving up food prices worldwide.
This means that people who live in concrete jungle cities, with no access to a backyard to grow a garden, are very disadvantaged by this news. Held ransom, by the US drought on this issue when shopping.
As too, are the famine stricken nations of the world, we need to be more mindful of.
New Zealand needs to get stuck into agriculture more. We also need a new distribution supply firm (separate to the now German-owned Turners & Growers) to create new supply distribution chains from NZ. Grains, wheat, maybe even maize are what NZ should get more into. Alongwith growing some good stodgey potatoes and kumara (yummy sweet potatoes) to boot. We need to stockpile these crops. The produce should belong to NZ citizens, (our youth should own them), to mediate Peace in the world’s future and reduce wars and blood shed too. It is our children’s futures we all serve, if we are humble enough to actually view it with eyes wide open, looking out to a brighter world where there are dark clouds on our horizons we need to bring light to in our humble yet pivotal New Zealand future, destined to be world-changing people.
Anway, for the latest on the news: Melissa Stokes 12 o’clock news report gives some of our news views in NZ. We’re are a little bit Vincent Ward today with a tragic: vigil watch in New Plymouth. A bit rattled in Hawke’s Bay too. A plume bubbly at Tongariro as well. Busy.
Andrew Allison gives a rough NZX report too. (We’re pretending that NZ is still worried about the Eurozone, when really the bank is in our backyard to grow. We need to be less lazy, do some real work and feed the world). If every politician was allowed out of ‘school’ to spend two days a week in their own provinces, encouraging their home electorate folks to begin this work, NZ would be 100% wealthier in a years time. Kind of, be a cheerleader (or a top coach) of the real people in each province, is what our politicians redeeming qualities are, ahead.
I have a Generation Joseph section on this blog, (created as a blueprint for youth of NZ’s strong future), that addresses that situation from NZ for the world. I like Melissa and Andrew’s reports today. Also of interest is the story of schizophrenia and medical science. In the GFC years or world re-engineering, people wearing ties at banks developed schizophrenic economies. The economies looked like: One for them and another for everyone else. The rise of this disease with suits (that is still prevalent) was best summed up in the American pop anthem, Poker Face many chart hits ago now. So I love that story too. A fav.
And: you can’t go past the world’s “oldest” flash mob dancers either today. Age is nothing but a number, so I admire the humor of our Kiwi grey-power set actors rocking out in this clip too. In their own special way, these outrageous silver hori headed people are creating world history too. Ye-ah!
Live life each day to the fullest is their very groovy message at our 100th medal milestone for NZ. Always have fun is the Auckland City’s Lifemark Homes team‘s inspiring crazy message. “Give it death” they reckon!!! I love them! JH Peace!

HARD HATS ON – PAULA BENNETT CHECKS OUT NEW CHRISTCHURCH CONSTRUCTION JOBS
Currently in NZ, we have our highest unemployment rates in 18 years. Some good news: MP Paula Bennett is photographed talking to young people in Christchurch City where two construction companies have started to hire.
Fletcher Building (the only outright winner when the government’s zero budget was announced this year) and Hawkins Construction have assisted 86 unemployed Cantabrians into work.
Fantastic. Now we just need the same vibe going on across all cities of NZ too. A good story. More news at the hard hat hammer.

JOB CREATION IS NEEDED IN NEW ZEALAND – 9th AUGUST 2012
On the evening news, the topic of jobs creation came up. Apparently, it hasn’t happened much in the last year.
This means our unemployment rate in New Zealand is the highest it has been in 18 years.
When questioned about it, the government said, the GFC and the Christchurch earthquake were to blame for the poor result in new and robust employment for New Zealand citizens.
My view is this: One – we must look after New Zealand citizens first, put New Zealanders into decent jobs, before we worry about providing for citizens all over the world on the stock market. The latter has been our government’s obsessive focus, more so than creating jobs on the ground, here in NZ. The truth is if we look after New Zealand citizens, then New Zealand citizens are more equipped to help immigrants more. Wealthier new immigrants also need to help NZ citizens more. And New Zealand citizens need to pay poorer new immigrants more. We need to find some balance here. (more…)
TEMUERA MORRISON LAUNCHES TRIBAL CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT – NGATI WHAKAUE’S 500 TRADE-TRAINING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
Maori-Hollywood actor, Mr Temuera Jack Nicolas David Morrison, is working on a tribal building project here in New Zealand.
At grass roots level, our man Tem launched an iwi based trade training scheme in Rotorua today. As a star, he’s building tribal capacity from the grass-roots up.
Morrison’s Maori tribe of Ngāti Whakaue wants at least 500 of its own tradespeople by the year 2020. MP Tariana Turia added her bling to the mix in a story of how New Zealand society has always grown: developing our own talent.
Major builds are ahead. Love this story! Tres real. (more…)
WORLD NEWS FROM NEW ZEALAND WITH PIPPA WETZELL – 12 O’CLOCK NEWS REPORT – 30.7.12
Surviving crocodiles and hippos that set snares was all a part of today’s news. The lovely Pippa Wetzell when reading the news today, shares of Christchurch finally getting a clear plan revealed to rebuild.
NZ’s PM John Keysaid on the news, that it’s envisaged the new city will be “like Melbourne.”
New Zealand’s largest city and biggest economic earner, Tamaki Makaurau Auckland is raising the rates 8%. Mayor Len Brown appears on camera to discuss that the rates hike is a result of merging requirements being fulfilled - nothing to do with the Council’s management of projects.
And for the sake of Israel, the Middle East and the world’s Peace, Mitt Romney gets a profile too with a visit from London to Israel as well.
All of the news from New Zealand can be viewed above.

Q+A FEEDBACK – SUPERANNUATION. FIRST TIME HOME BUYERS. ACCELERATING KEY GROWTH STREAMS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – NEW ZEALAND 2040 & AUCKLAND CITY PLANNING
Superannuation was a hot topic today as well as youth home ownership for first time home owners. PM John Key spoke well on TV live from the National Party convention centre.
In a $50 million earning bracket himself, I was more listening for whether he is in touch with the real needs of majorities of Kiwis. He was more sobre-minded when speaking to cam. Superannuation, needs to and will be addressed.
As yet the urgency has not entirely hit the PM yet, due to his own personal fortunate circumstances acting as a buffer perhaps, though it sounds like he’s working on it with his cabinet too. New Zealand is ageing prematurely, meaning grey power have a lot of say and our population is ageing and also older immigrants love the safe haven nature of NZ too. Is there enough oxygen in the air for youth and young adult culture to have a platform enhancing the future good life of our esteemed grey power set of cool Kiwis? Youth can’t afford to listen all the time to grey power. Yet grey power if they turn and face youth, have the keys to draw out the dream NZ needs for youth and grey power to be secure and have more fun. So, a little investment from grey power into the young, could quite possibly cause young people’s innovative gifts to rise now to the fore. It’s time.
Where are those forums, that can feed back into strategic angel investor pools as well as the MPI hub of business in the near future? Let’s get it fast tracking. It’s exciting.
Immigration: Immigrants have accelerated rapidly in NZ. Critics say Maori are resistant to immigrants. I found the statement kind of insulting as a Maori-Kiwi, simply because Maori have welcomed more cultures into New Zealand than many other people, so Maori have the longest standing immigration manaaki record in NZ history. If Maori show signs of immigrant fatigue, it’s only due to our no.1 partner (The Crown) deliberating playing Maori off against a plethora of immigrants, perhaps creating a feeding frenzy upon Maori by all in unjust ways. Get back into the pitt and negotiate properly, is what politics should be doing concerning Maori and The Crown right now. Courts should be doing the same. The foundations and getting them right will save a lot of money and heartache, if we take the time now to be considerate and get this right.
What causes resistance could perhaps be economic structuring. An idea, or suggestion: What is needed is something like an Iwi-Kiwi bank for Maori NZ citizens and friends. What is also needed is % quota shares of oil, water, NZ resources sales (similar to the fish case in the Supreme Court) that goes into the Iwi-Kiwi banking structure and is administered to tribes. The money is not for ‘living.’ It is more for development purposes. This would sure up a fast track stream of development for Maori to grow the wider NZ economy quicker. All Kiwis would benefit. Also, people like Mark Solomon, Tainui and Sir Ralph Norris have the business skills to spin out this money for maximum return – if they wanted to get involved.
If Indian immigrants did the same (own their own NZ owned bank etc). If Asian-Kiwis did the same too, then the government’s job would be a key joy. In the US, people develop without government so much. In NZ, government is extremely strong. At times heavy. So a balance between both of these styles of biz governance could perhaps benefit NZ by freeing up the economy more. Then government could more concentrate on the success stories, (throwing more parties in a culture of success celebration achievement), within the four sectors of biz growth and cross-polinate these models (eg: MPI etc) with strategic meetings that would then work more like an economic science of growth, based on what’s actually working being highlighted and replicated and perfected in new ways, thus streamlining the growth process. (Gosh, what a bad structured sentence!).
It’s exciting no matter what way you look at it though.
Young People: Democracy is always built on young energy. If we deplete it, we are stripping the country’s best interests. When we age we can tend to get selfish (although some of the most youthful Kiwis in heart are elderly people – it’s about attitude of being youthfully accepting). We we can lose our peripheral vision as we move into our ‘contentment’ phase of life.
Prof. Paul Spoonley noted with Jessica Mutch the alarming (or just global times realities) statistic of 150,000 young New Zealanders leaving the country since 2008 (the global financial crises years). (more…)
CHRISTCHURCH CTV BUILDING ROYAL COMMISION INQUIRY UPDATES
In a twist to the CTV building’s royal commission of inquiry, “crucial information of the design of the CTV building is missing.”
The commission’s lawyer for victims’ families, Marcus Elliot, asked why key documents requested by the commission had not been provided.
Alan Reay the engineer who designed the building said “whatever went mouldy and we couldn’t copy and recover, we wouldn’t have kept. The office was such a shambles. We had no legal obligation to retain job files … It was just us retaining what was appropriate,” he said.
Some company files held in an off-site storage facility had been ruined by a leaking roof. Documents later supplied to the commission were discovered in a storage box marked “miscellaneous”. David Harding had done the bulk of the design work for the building.
Lisa Davies brings the update.

OUR OUTRIGGER CANOES OF SCIENCE, EDUCATION, INNOVATION FOR POLYNESIAN & PASIFIKA YOUTH POPULATIONS OF THE WORLD – NEW ZEALAND SPIRIT RISING & INVESTING IN PI YOUTH
Because science, innovation, education are New Zealand peoples spirit - of our strong outrigger canoe culture of navigatable adventurous and creative discoveries into new horizons of destiny and change too:
In investing R&D capital into our future innovative inventors of sustainability and peace news:
In my mind I see, children all throughout the South Pacific, even up to the Marshall Islands into even the island of Guam, maybe Vietnam too. They each have a laptop and tablet each. On the internet they are taught curriculum subjects from New Zealand.
Their learning is accelerated and a generation of Polynesian (and Asian?) children arise, supported by their New Zealand friends nearby and afar, to allow the potential of Polynesia’s youth to be all they will be, for the gifts in their lives the world will need to be stronger, smarter, more creative – in the years to come. If we all do this for them that’s so going to happen.
This is the burden that sits very strongly on me today. I really want to see our groovy and unique white, Pakeha New Zealanders do it, just to teach the world what cool New Zealand citizens look like as architects of the world – and to push back the powers of greed, on our Island dwelling Polynesian friends.
Although we admire the braun of Polynesian peoples natural dna (Jonah Lomu storms to mind) - it is their Peaceful spirit (most days), their respect for their elderly, their creativity so rich yet largely untapped, their spiritual gifts, the notable and noble warmth of heart, a trusting innocence in the good of the wider world and their unique thoughts that dwell within their minds; that we will need to see more of in the world, twenty years out from this point. We need to invest more in it.
