Australians only work 32 hours a week. What they’re saying is: pub time matters. What else can that mean?!
Anyway… cheers to that then. Lazy ochres. :)
the truth is: companies are cutting costs (part time staff means no long term additional employment incentives are being paid). Two Aussie Banks also predict Australian unemployment to be on the rise.
the trend shows: “Australians are living the good life rather than working hard is instead a reflection of a longer trend away from full-time towards part-time work, more flexible working hours, and the increasing casualisation of the work force.”

Adelaide’s The Advertiser looked at who the most wannabe Australians are as per their grading results in the citizenship test. Sweden, The Netherlands, Finland, France and Switzerland all wanted to be Australians the most, achieving on average 97% in their tests.
Kiwis who last year were voted by all Australians as being their most preferred immigrants in the world as “Kiwis just get it,” and the most compatable to the Aussies according to the Aussies in a survey of 2012, apparently aren’t all that kosher in swotting for Aussie-set tests. NZers on average only scored 72.6% in the test. (more…)
A new breed of teens are arising. At 16, Yaya Lu has designed a voice-activated wheel chair. So clever. A true artist.

7 years ago when I lived in the USA, Julia Gillard, the Welsh born Australian Prime Minister didn’t even register in a New Zealander’s consciousness.
In the USA Julia Gillard as Australia’s leader rose to fame at the same time Julian Assange did in the US news. They were the two Australians of the year in American media presence.
At 2012 her stand against sexism and mysogeny has made Gillard a global icon for women’s rights. She also now has 1 in 5 of all Maori people of the world living within her nation’s borders. She is their leader now. Riding a mining boom Gillard pays women $20k more each year on average than NZ does. Wow! 7 years ago, that wasn’t the case. It now is. Who would have thought?
Congratulations Australia and Ms. Gillard.

FASHION MARKETING – AUSTRALIAN DESIGNER JESSICA BREGRENHOJ DESIGNS DRESS TO BE SEEN BY 3 BILLION PEOPLE
Australian designers are asked to whizz up a rag that will be seen by 3 billion people:
What did they come up with in this latest Aussie marketing campaign
”I titled the dress ‘the golden country’ because I wanted it to represent everything golden, prosperous and lucky about Australia,” said the Sydney designer, Jessica Bregenhoj, who was once mentored by Alex Perry, adding she had been ”inspired by the sails of the Sydney Opera House.” (more…)
Are you tired of the concrete jungle, the traffic and the smog of the big city? Why not go a bit country then. Denim fashion is what you need to know before you jet.
Cowboy denim style: photographed by Azim Haidaryan.
Paul Robinson of Dunedin runs Rodeo Drive Southland, New Zealand. Being a cowboy is his family’s gig.
USA, Canada and Australia are riding south to New Zealand for a rodeo. In Australia’s GQ Magazine coutback fashion style takes a cowboy twist in Australia’s multicultural cosmopolitan cities. Click on pic above to see denim, country cowboy style. Mark Sainsbury and Mercury TV original reporter of Invercargill, Megan Martin reporting.
USA’s Top Ten are:
A Google, SEO listed selection.
GQ‘s Wayne Gross writes: Think Indiana Jones and Dallas, a cowboy is never complete without the perfect cowboy hat – see Akubra for one. Don’t be afraid to wear a denim shirt with denim jeans, just be sure to break up the ensemble with a classic chocolate leather belt. Don’t shy away from an expensive pair of jeans. They’ll last you longer, and certainly look the part. Boots are made for walking – and in this case complete any cowboy look. Lighter styles in shades of caramel and cream contrast well with darker denim. Hold up your denim with a good quality leather belt with an oval buckle.

Good to see Aussies doing well as entertainers in the USA.
Chris‘ latest news:
CASTING TALENT AGENCY & AGENT SHAKE UPS: Nikki Finke‘s Hollywood website writes: “Chris Hemsworth is proving to be a go-to young guy for big ticket Hollywood fare. Particularly after Marvel’s Thor and The Avengers and also Universal’s Snow White And The Huntsman.
Chris is starring in Thor 2 and will lead DreamWorks/Fox’s Steven Spielberg-directed Robopocalypse and receive $10 million from CBS Films to play a terrorist hunter in American Assassin. So which agency will represent Hollywood’s hottest new action hunk is big news. I can now tell you it is CAA with Jack Wigham and Bryan Lourd.”
ON LOCATION IN ICELAND: Chris has landed in Iceland to film the Thor sequel movie. Scenes for the sequel, Thor: The Dark World will use Iceland’s stunning backdrops to add the film’s ancient Nordic world feel.
Iceland Review notes how up to 300 people will come from the U.S. to work on the shooting in addition to the almost 200 Icelanders who will also be involved in the project. The film crew is serviced by Icelandic film production company True North. It is the most significant film project to ever happen in Iceland so far.
Sounds good. So busy.

Rugby’s Richard Kahui of The Chiefs and Aussie girl, Amy Rhodes are the most searched for South Pacific names on the website today.
Rachel Glucina wrote in The Diary: “Waikato Chiefs heart-throb Richard Kahui, 27, has proposed to his longtime Australian girlfriend, Amy Rhodes, breaking collective female hearts around the country. The All Blacks centre, who is out this season with a shoulder injury, popped the question to Rhodes, a teacher, last week.
Kahui’s agent, Kent Hale, confirmed the marriage news, but said Kahui would not comment and is fiercely private about his personal life. Rhodes, who moved from Sydney’s Coogee to Hamilton to live with Kahui, has changed her relationship status on Facebook to, “engaged [to] Richard Kahui”. Blimey! Memo to Kent: Amy may need security asap. :)

When living in Los Angeles, the people marketing records across the USA and the world, all loved one songwriter. No one in LA had heard of her much, yet music industry movers and shakers, played her songs. She’s an Aussie. Her name is Missy Higgins. Here’s Everyone’s Waiting, doing quite well on the charts in the South Pacific. Fantastic.
