ANGELS
One of my favorite photos: The day after it was taken, snow fell in The Valley. The image sort of sums up what media do worldwide: angels of news.
Sometimes angels come to you: Unexpectedly. Do we have eyes to see them, when they do? (more…)

history: Graham tartan, as published in the Vestiarium Scoticum. The Graham family of the Cruickshank-Montrose-Graham families were responsible for overturning the law that once prohibited Scottish people from wearing their traditional colors. Courage in freedom and liberty’s truth and a quest for the highest good has always been a marvellous family trait as a rule for most… though, we have all had our fair share of fumbles and trying moments too. :)
good momentum of the day: 11th feb 2013: a Kiwi songstress, kimbra, wins a grammy x 2. whoot! And: was able to help one nz business, (a pop & mom investor’s business), make inroads with their new product into the usa.
1st contact for them is: los feliz’ one and only katie walsh. with their specifically, unique product, kate will absolutely know what to do. go nz in usa. :)
family fact: on the maori side of my family, i have fifty first cousins. the name of my youngest first cousin is holly hill. she’s kinda a global young adult. a jet setter from an arts-business, power infrastructure builds & movie loving family. having a young cousin named holly hill made me smile when i got to hollywood. :)

AT THE COUNTY FAIR WITH MOM
hitting up the fair today… a farming community having fun.
how it was: up at the fair, the young farmers club regional contest is on.
craig williamson from methven-ashburton way is the sponsoring bank’s m.c. as the farmer contestants compete in a constructed obstacle course.
it’s nothing flash: eggs, giant cream trifle squares in plastic containers, forestry, utes, pruning pine trees then felling pine trees to fall on a black balloon, loading quad bike trailers with green fence posts, looking for electronic tags in hay bales, solving concrete blocks puzzles, strainer posts fencing games are what the farmers do over an interesting rural soundtrack barrage of coded farming commentary: it’s all a bit potty, laden with otago gold dig & s-land slap stick comical references to help our farmers out. all done in heavy-undertoned rural humour (heavier than previous years of farming scene observes, i might add) with a serious business face to boot, for sure. the mc truly clever in their craft.
c-bury is in a land so far away to these farmer’s community’s realities, in local terms i question its strong presence at the event’s location. it does recognise diversity of region in nz perhaps, to entertain a group of particular farmers. in farming banter terms souther-exotic even. they’re good sports, they don’t react to the invasion of their consciousness at a cultural-community regionally-proud ag-level in their own right.
the amusing mood? farmers kindergarten-activities for grown ups – meets lots of enthusiastic support. a good crowd to be in. it is harmless fun in the sun. (more…)
SONG AT STARLIGHT
On the wall of vertical water in his living room, David inserted the chip. Up came the scroll, of his peoples’ seasonal thanksgiving karakia. The words swam across the wall of incandescent water as he read their life-giving words:
“Eyes of God,
watching over the land and its people,
you reflect on our place in the world.
The season has changed, safe weather for long voyages begins,
the stormy seasons are now past.
Oh, sailing stars above us,
you are peace and plentitude on the land.”

WONDERFUL, WILD, WEIRD & FREE
q: what were some of the weirdest moments you experienced in hollywood?
a: um… here’s ten posts that are weird & free.
1. A black eye incident, pre-Grammys when young passion went wrong was the reason the website started. That was all sorts of sad weird for a crew of gun publicists in California to sort out at the time. All were shocked at the time.
2. Blogging in California about China’s angel cat in May 2009 was certainly different.
3. Who audiences find newsy is always a freaky surpirse. The 2009, stars list was not what you had expected if reading-watching the news that year, yet online people, often know way in advance who is big news.
4. A daily penchant for Stolichnaya Bakery pastries, lasted six months. An act of total rebel-dom that was fattening, good fun weird. Healthy I thought at the time, better than vodka it was.
5. New Zealand celebrities sending me a sports doll was both funny and different. My first reaction was a boulevard photoshoot. :)
6. Blogging about Bollywood stars in Hollywood was fun, weird, strange, because there were so many real US stars all around me in person – why I still felt the need to use the magic carpet of the internet in 2009 and democratically journey online to India’s movie industry too… was weird! (more…)
APPRECIATION CLUB
appreciation club: okay, 59 months in the US, 7 years involved in publicity, marketing, show biz. Two years of that pioneering new media, intensively doing a blog in the US (followed by another 22 months in NZ doing the same). how was it? Most of it was computer-intensive, laptop driven time spent typing tonnes of words, sharing thoughts, links etc. In a way, most of it was similar to any desk job involving long hours (where ten-twelve hour work days, was a lite working day – fourteen hours a day, common)… Perhaps for that reason, my tolerance of lazy thinkers isn’t the best. Love, joy, peace (patience’s fruit) needs a rev up in me. Patience is just not there, a side-effect of being a part of the experiment. In those long hours conditons being committed to the experiment, you do feel like you’re in a wheelchair, just the nature of that experience.
You also have your brain’s contents being cyphoned from you too (that’s also a strong reality).
parts of the experiment though in the usa, weren’t computer driven at all. yet as the u.s consists of the vast reality of 50 states and 309 million people (US Census 2010), via a computer is still the best way to be an American. (more…)
A WRITER’S LIFE
Writing in a lifetime: “Obviously an immensely important find” is lucky to happen once in a writer’s lifetime. More than once, makes a literary darling.
A writer’s best work is often hidden and enshrined on the pages of their imagination, emotional palate, life experiences and heart’s pages.
Courage to reveal insights are worn of spirit on the woven threads of our mortality’s skin, that makes us all human.
A good story is universal. Human enough for most to be able to relate to it. Thus a writer’s life is the world’s, constantly being shaped and written. (more…)

LIVING OUT OF YOUR SKIN
Travel as teacher: If there’s a defining trait of adventurous people, it is that living out of your skin, you learn fast. Travel can accelerate education in new learning environments of cultures that are not your own. No cotton wool, no comfort zone of privilege… is the gift of travel to one’s mind, memory, learning curve. Travel to this day, is still a university of knowledge. Surviving close shaves is all a part of it.

A SHOW BIZ TOWN
A show biz town: “Behind the phony tinsel of Hollywood lies the real tinsel.”–Oscar Levent being funny.
“Hollywood is a place where people mistake each other for stars.”–Fred Allen humor, modified. This is also why Hollywood is what it is. USA’s no.1 town of starmakers with Washington.
“In a smoke and mirrors town, you learn how to reflect and bounce attention and compliments ultra-fast.”–me on the art of p.r.
“To get ahead quicker in Hollywood, always take Fountain.”–Bette Davis
“Hitch your wagon to a star”– how the movie making component of the town began (and also the rule of publicity tie ups in the star system + organising event plus1′s).
“Always know your feh!s from your yiddisher kops.”–Orthello Doc.
“Never again!”–video.
THE RHYTHM OF RAIN
Rain. That one commodity that can shift across geography as moving water in time and space. Rain was a fiercely fought battle.
Satellites were constantly at work creating superstorms that could move rain to one nation, while denying rain to another.
David had developed technology that could cut through the web of the rain merchants.
A gift of Te Uira communicated through his dna.
Twelve bracelets worn on his right wrist, each held the chips that could communicate to satellites to send rain to where the graphene bracelets were placed, once activated.
Leaving Nouveau, David’s next journey was a twelve nations sojourn. He would place a bracelet in every one of the drought and famine stricken lands on the leg of his tour. He knew who should wear them. His mind vaguely didn’t want to annunciate who the new rain keepers would be. Their hearts like Papatuanuku’s revelry for The Earth, he could see clearly in his vision, while deliberately shielding the facial features of each human vessel from his mind’s eye.
It was always good to keep some surprises for the journey. That way it was still a true adventure. He was excited to get some down time.
No one was to know the bracelets’ purpose. Each held enough power, that would water the lands modestly to sustain the people of those nations, without interfering too much with rain yields being directed to the more affluent empires on the globe who owned the satellites.
Shaving for the last time in what would be an eight weeks trek and sojourn, David caught a reflection of his kanohi in the mirror. (more…)
THE SCREENWRITER’S LIGHT IS WRITING FOR AN AUDIENCE IN THE DARK, WHO CAME TO ESCAPE THEIR CURRENT REALITY MOMENTARILY
on screenwriting:
“Upon a string of paper thoughts, were threaded scenes, ideas, characters revealing a journey of shared human experience in a vision presented as a big picture. Each scene a pearl, carefully placed in an uneven array, that equalled a perfect sequence of life experience of human imperfections presented.
–me on the master jeweller’s approach to scripting structure.
“It is the writers job to give people an excuse to see their movie and then through it, an audience talk about life now. How the story relates to the audiences lives and their own journeys is what a writer creates gifts a movie audience in every day life.”
–me on observing what a new script does for Hollywood’s ordinary people.
“So the writer is the only person who’s talking absolutely nothing, and 120 pages of it, and dirtying it up in such a way that it’s gonna gross a few million over-printed and semi-fake benjas and make a few million pepsi-swilling popcorn lovers happy, all in the fun contrast of a dark place.”
–Paul Guay.
“The most important person in the motion picture process is the writer, and we must do everything in our power to prevent them from ever realizing it.”
–Steven De Souza.
“An upset writer isn’t going to hear your points anyway. But an encouraged one might. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes. You put your heart and soul into the script, for months and weeks. It’s a vulnerable place to be. Yet on the bones of that person’s thoughts an industry has structure and is given defining features.”
–J.G.
Close the door. Write with no one looking over your shoulder (if you can in an internet age, where people you don’t even know, now look in). Don’t try to figure out what other people want to hear from you. (more…)

COLORFUL LOVE ABSOLVES EVERY KIND OF FEAR – MILLIE & REUBEN
memos from the young:
Love always wins, it might take longer than evil or hatred but love always wins. Find out who you are and know who you are, and know your strengths and weaknesses. Be brave even if you are frightened. Value yourself, there is only one of you. And don’t worry if you are different from everyone else, we’re all different.–Millie Elder-Holmes.
something something about a “circle” being ”brightly” “colored” “loud”
