Horiwood.Com is a celebrity and entertainment news website based in Hollywood. The blog is written by a freelance journalist, a writer, occasional poet and member of the foreign press based in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
Horiwood is a blog read daily by people of many nations. It’s diverse in its appeal and far reaching charm.
Sam Cruickshank has an MA in Film, Television & Media studies. For Sam, living in Hollywood can be a blur yet, Hollywood is currently Sam’s home.
Whether you are meeting the world’s biggest teen superstar, like Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber, LA has so much to offer in this city of fame and excess. It’s the only city you’ll step over a homeless person on the way into an Oscar after party, or be wowed as you catch the magic of live outdoor music at The Hollywood Bowl. It’s surreal.
Horiwood shares attention grabbing media moments inside the fame game that anyone who lives in LA is bombarded with each day as stars, celebrities, entertainers, music artists, film actors, comedians, TV stars and big studios all compete along with normal people of California too, for their piece of a media spotlight alongside global politicians – from The Entertainment Capitol of The World. It’s crazy!
Horiwood is meant to be a light-hearted (never intentionally hurtful) entertaining read 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It’s just one New Zealand guy’s daily view of media moments that capture our attention from someone who just happens to live in Hollywood, California.
There are many other unique, groovy New Zealand people too on Facebook. At the time of writing (North Korea has just bombed South Korea, U2 and Jay-Z have just performed in New Zealand, President Obama has just had 12 stitches for his cut lip in basketball game), this blog has reached the 2.7 million milestone in Hollywood.
One of the key themes of observing ‘celebrity as a concept’ being shaped is the knowledge and observation that Family is Always More Important Than Fame. That theme always gets the most hits on a celebrity blog long term.
Horiwood is a “construct” not really me. You all know that aye? Sweet!

I recently read about you in the latest version of Tumai Magazine, it is awesome the work you are doing, and doing it in a distinctly Maori way – mana enhancing – which I know would go off over in Hollywood.

Hey Sam, I set ‘urban iwi: tihei mauri ora!’ for an assignment and my student’s essay led me to this – chur bro! I have a ‘take it to the people’ part of the assignment where they have to put their analysis in a public space. My student created a wikipedia page for you which would have been awesome if the powers that B hadn’t removed it stating that it was ‘self-promotory’!! Ha! All good, I’ve got her writing about that experience and it led to a class chat about censorship, literary gate-keeping and the gorgeous role that anthologies play in the Pacific! Am planning a nationwide Poetry comp for Maori and Pacific poets soon and your Mauri Ola contribution will go towards books as prizes. Thanks! Keep up the lovely work – Selina

How lovely to see you still have your wooden spoon out and going hard stirring from a safe and respectable distance :) How the hika are you and your whānau these days? I have to agree with Louise – you really havn’t changed a bit and this blogging business is YOU to a T!
So I see you have figured out where I am and what I am up to – a full time language warrior e hoa – I love this mahi and all the cool kaupapa reo that are springing up all over Aotearoa.
