Not an entirely healthy thought, yet a lot of unhealtheir things have happened and been introduced into NZ in the last ten years, than “asian cigarettes” song lyrics.
Here’s classic Dave Dobbyn and his music peers to reflect our Kiwi sentiments of cool rock n’ roll and pop culture from years past with music from Th’ Dudes. The band were school buds who formed at Sacred Heart College as a covers band. They’d go on to write their own material that would become anthems of Kiwi culture. The band would tour the regions of New Zealand, uniting community to belt out their songs.
I still get down to their rock music at times today. I admire their work. In those days it was difficult for Kiwis to be allowed “attitude.”
We’re kinda grass roots humble as a culture. Th’ Dudes really did break the mould in giving Kiwis a voice that was for Young Adults to bust out, break free and rock the gig, in New Zealand. Because of that hard ground, fought - I still rock their sound at times. It’s the sound of NZ’s own voice that came of age.
Us old people and our retro guilty pleasures… :)
