CASTING BY, TOM DONAHUE’S DOCUMENTARY – CENTERS ON THE AUTEURS OF TALENT PLACEMENT IN MOVIES

Casting directors are so important in the world. Discovering talent helps create the next wave of leaders, trends, faces to present new ideas, or not.

Hollywood remembers a great in a documentary movie that features casting director Marion Dougherty‘s impact of growing California and the USA as the most entertainment-driven people on earth with her nack for casting and selecting movie talent.

Dougherty was famous for saying: “Everything was shifting in American culture. People wanted something different,” explaining the rise of consumerism’s speed whereby discovering stars and new faces for Americans (and the world’s) views went together in growing media platforms at the same time.

Of Doughetry symbolizing the role of an astute casting director in action, Al Pacino said: “She owned that position of casting. She was it.” It’s good to see industry figures acknowledge the role that a large cast of people play in creating stars. Nice one! Everyone wins when credit is given where credit is due. Sharing the spotlight, grows an economy quicker. I like the lead of the Hollywood greats in doing just that in the new Donahue documentary.

Who: Tom Donahue, Robert Redford, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood and Al Pacino

What: Casting By - a Tom Donahue documentary film.

Why: A documentary centered on the unsung casting directors involved in movies.

When: Casting By premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.

Who else? Producers: Joanna Colbert, Tom Donahue and Kathryn Lacey. Production House: Creative Chaos in association with Tashtego Films.

Publicists also do a lot in discovering new talent and getting actors into the right lanes too in the USA. I like the trailer. A merging of greats. At the time of writing, President Obama has cited President Bill Clinton‘s term of politics as a role model for the USA to look to at growing new jobs as Clinton did in his term of office within the USA. Obama’s stance is the made by America for America return in American consciousness.

Effecitvely what is being discussed with job creation and job placement is what a good talent manager and casting agent does 24-7. They identify talent early if possible and then they direct talent towards the right growth areas and revenue streams. The talent that do well, grow the US economy. What is needed is better appreciation of human resources in all nations of the world whose economies are stifled and where unemployment is at all time highs. In this documentary are some key skills in discovering new potential in others. It is useful.
