FORMER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION BOXER, MIKE TYSON ASKS IF NEW ZEALAND IS TOO JUDGEMENTAL A PLACE TO VISIT?
Mike Tyson questions whether New Zealand is too judgemental a place for him to even visit.
The story went, “He did his time for rape, yet he is not sure whether NZ is safe to visit. Will NZ immigration grant Tyson a visa to visit? Or does Tyson even still want to visit if he will be judged?”
Hmmmm, Mike does have a point. NZ is really vicious in that way at this current time. It’s like a “judge’s hang over” here culturally, yet everyone thinks they’re the judge. We’re more “Westminster judgemental” in NZ at the moment, than England is now. It can feel like everyone’s in a super strict high school, culturally, compared to the USA for example.
Read story at TV3.
In the US you never (or rarely) see judges or lawyers on the news. Here, it’s like every fourth story some days. It’s a major overkill some days.
On the flipside, the LAPD would be really envious of how much coverage police force members get on TV too. It’s right up there with Southland TV series. I kid you not! That’s how proud NZ is of our police people, our judges and our lawyers. In NZ, people would change the channel if news was full of ‘law’ enforcer styled stories or people. Advertisers would drop for TV networks. Network CEO’s would be fired, except during Judge Judy. Not so in NZ.
We have a weird need to see people wearing uniforms or lawyers wearing a tie. Otherwise how else could one explain all of those stories? It’s not good for the economy (lawyers are fat cats creaming it as a rule… jokes), however it’s how things are culturally here.
What will the former heavyweight champion of the world decide, or, NZ immigration too? I don’t think Mike should come. He’d be more at home, some place else to be honest. Social media companies would win, if Tyson did visit. The amount of online chat that would happen if Tyson, one of USA’s more controversial stars, turned up would go on for weeks in a country like NZ.
