HUMBLE WISDOM, INSIGHTFUL ENCOURAGEMENT – NZ ROWING’S DICK TONKS EXCELLENCE IN SPORT
Sports experts and coaches are all the rage in the world at the moment.
I was really impressed with the humility, wisdom, sense of fair play of NZ rowing’s Dick Tonks‘ latest TV appearance and interview.
Humble. Aware of the competition and staying above it. An encourager, loaning courage along-side to his champions’ dreams. Aware of investment being important to achieving the zenith and heights of athlete’s hard earned dreams on the trail of harrowing training, yet not a fan of wastage either.
As a Kiwi, how do we be more like him? Dude’s attitude towards work and life, rocks! Watch interview here. Perhaps as Tonks won a silver at the Munich games in 1972 and then has gone on to replenish the knowledge bank of NZ sports prized pool, his life giving to a nation’s sporting dreams, provides insights galore.
What I most liked is his acknowledgment that NZ’s younger talent base, needs to be kept an eye on, so talent makes it through and is not being thwarted.
