COUSIN JOAN & BRIAN VISIT FROM AUSTRALIA

Watching, dad pruning branches over the driveway, reminded me of how he’s always been a gardener. He points out the tui calls in the macrocarpa tree and explains to me their language. Dad and his family have always been so conscious of nature’s calls.

Next, mom and my niece Crystal Rachel arrive. She’s so beautiful. Their helping hands cleaning the house brighten the day. An hour later, it’s better than I could have done it. I marvel at their skill and kindness too. Meanwhile, my grand-nephew Ezra snuggles into my chest for awhi. His head of curls too cute to ignore as I breathe him in. Our little miracle, he too is lucky to be alive. Ezra’s brain is engineering and mechanically inclined. Anything electronic, needs to go on higher ground when he’s around.

It’s incredible how quick they grow.

The next day cousin Joan arrives from Aussie. I meet Brian her gold-miner Aussie beau. Nice chap. They’re getting married in September.

I hear that cousin William Hill is going to the wedding. Will moved from Sydney to Japan recently as he’s an expert in stocks. Joan has been up Herekino to see her other side of the family too. She’s so sweet. Brian and Joan met at the movies in their gold mining Aussie town. Each friday for the last four years Joan and Brian always go to a movie. They both love movies! The last movie they saw was Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.

Joanie’s eyes come alive, when mom points out our cousin Kristy Hill in the New Zealand Olympians full team poster. Just I like I did, Joanie touches Kristy’s face on the poster and says, “awwww!” Too funny.

I’m stoked Joan’s getting married again. Her hugs are the old school kind with mahana warmth tuuturu. I feel our ancestors’ warmth when Joanie’s back in town. Go Joan & Brian! :)
