MARKETS WATCH – VODAFONE BUYS TELSTRA CLEAR – HEARTLAND & TORCHLIGHT SELLING NEW ZEALAND – 12.7.12

The midday markets watch with Roger Coulter from Craigs Investment Partners and Melissa Stokes, looked like this today:

Exictement caused buzz as Vodafone purchased Telstra Clear. The move is seen as a shake up to the telecommunications industry, seen to help create healthy competition that serves New Zealand’s growing broadband and telecommunications arenas in a good way for the future. I’m a fan of Telecom, so this move helps keep Telecom honest and we like that in any context in New Zealand. It’s a win for consumers.

Also on the family table today was the news of Heartland – a building industry capital funding company, also a farming capital investor.

Finally, Torchlight selling was a topic of discussion. Phillip Carter sold shares. He is the brother of David Carter and MP and Tony Carter of Fisher & Paykel health care.
